18 Best Myrtle Beach Restaurants to Try | Eater Carolinas

"The space is massive, the menu is extensive, and there’s free entertainment — so bring the entire family to the Hangout. The food ranges from snow crab clusters to chicken tender baskets to pork nachos to surf-and-turf burgers. It’s not fancy fare, but it will keep the kids and the adults satisfied. A frozen margarita doesn’t hurt either." - Ashley Daniels

Google
A very loud and hectic scene at first but once you get used to it, it’s very fun and entertaining! Almost like diner and a show, in a sense. There’s a DJ and a host like person who entertains the crowd every hour. It’s fun and they get the entire restaurant involved in activities as you’re eating. It’s fun, kids will love it, and you too may love it. Surprisingly good food for a place your expectations may not be that high.

Google
I figured this place would be like a Joe's Crab Shack vibe. 10/10 BETTER! So much fun! Such a cool vibe and the food was AMAZING! Service was great, took a while to get drinks only because its so popular and there's dancing and activities between. The bathrooms were AMAZINGLY clean! With the amount of people and crowds, it's the best bathroom I've ever been. Great for kids and the family! A MUST GO TO!

Aaron Carlin

Google
I give it five stars for the experience. There was a lot to do for adults and kids. The outside portion had a professional stage with a band playing all evening, multiple bars, an arcade area, corn hole, a sand mountain with tunnels, and a foam spraying area that goes off every hour. The inside portion was large with lower and upper dining areas. There were large LED screens showing different sports, etc., a small stage in the center where they do entertainment every hour with music and games. It's very interactive with the audience and a lot of fun. If you want to be somewhere where your kids can be loud and get a lot of energy out, this is the spot! There's even a slide from the upper level down to the main level. All in all, you're going to have an awesome and fun time here and there's not another restaurant around that's going to be this grand on entertainment, fun, and a wide variety of things to do for all ages. The food was just ok but that's not what they are known for. I ordered the Lifeguard burger. It's a burger with 1 lb of meat and a list of toppings. I expected a lot of flavor with all that was on it but I honestly could only taste the meat and it was a little dry. My wife and kids got the chicken tenders and fries and they were good. My friend got the glazed salmon and he said it was good. Enjoy the experience!

Google
Solo or with Loved ones... this place is so awesome to visit. The food was delicious and the service was welcoming super polite and efficient. Southern hospitality at it's finest. The stage with a live host and dancing made me feel like I was at a club but for all age's. I'm from NY so I felt like I was at home. It was the best time and I'm definitely going back.

Google
The atmosphere was great, I think it's an awesome place to "Hangout." Unfortunately, I had to wait a long time for the food, and when it got to my table, we had to request that they make another play due to my wife's food being cold. I had the salmon with steam veggies and coleslaw, which was good. My wife had the Korean steak tacos that was great when made on the second attempt. The most important part of my visit was that the bartender wasted no time to apologize and rectified the issue. In addition, the manager came by to apologize as well and offered us a scoop of ice cream to show their intentions to truly satisfy the customers' needs.

Google
So. Much. Fun. Not just a dining experience, it really is a place to hang out and interact with friendly people! The seafood boil was fantastic and our server was so fun. He taught my daughter the macarena. Dancing is encouraged!

Google
This place is real dope. The atmosphere is a vibe. Live music, good vibes, happy/ pleasant staff. It's usually packed so a reservation is recommended! We were in pretty quick. The food options were a bit limited; but my food and my husbands came out fresh and delicious. Their signature SHARK ATTACK drink was amazing, I loved it. It came with cute little shark figurines. I love the subtle reminders around the restaurant and the staff to "Be kind or go home"!!!! We'll be back in a few weeks!

Google
We almost didn’t give The Hangout a shot, but we are definitely glad we did! We were initially quoted at an hour wait, but ended up getting a table within 10 minutes of arriving. There was a loud, fun, engaging atmosphere with music that made people want to get up and dance. Both of my kids were singing and dancing, excited to watch people get on stage or on TV. There were many fun activities just inside and outside the restaurant including photo ops, a giant slide from the second floor to the first floor, and an opportunity to try to earn a $20 voucher for the gift shop. The food itself was excellent. I ordered the blackened chicken po boy sandwich. The kids’ chicken tenders were amazing as well as the popcorn shrimp. My kids also loved the slushies served in the souvenir cups. Overall, a great place we’d recommend.

Yelp
The service at The Hangout is like nothing I've ever experienced. In making travel plans for a special group of visitors one of the managers Dustin (AKA the miracle worker) was awesome. He moved mountains to make the visit work. His response to my requests brought me to tears. Check out The Hangout the kids cannot wait for a foam party.
google avatar

Samantha B.

Yelp
I'll say this ...we had a fun time here. But it gets a 3 from me because we ordered the salmon well down and it came out pretty raw and when we sent it back even the kitchen manager agreed it should've never been sent out to us like that. The shrimp po boy was good though. The place was pretty packed so definitely try to reserve a table so you don't have to wait. It was nice though and the music was great
google avatar

Daniel R.

Yelp
Waited 90 minutes to sit outside under a broken ceiling fan. The vibe is fun, great atmosphere, it's an option for sure, however pretty basic at best. 3 stars is fair. The service wasn't the best, we waited around for water and had to ask twice for refills. I ordered the chicken nachos and I guess I expected more. They were kind of plain, no olives, tomatoes, sour cream, quac, etc... you know the basic nacho ingredients. Especially when they're nearly $20. Caesar salad was good.

Yelp
This is where the party is at. Family friendly atmosphere with fun for all ages!! There is a live band playing outside and also a host who gets you dancing with fun music and trivia! The service is top tier and the drinks are great! I got the blue shark in a souvenir cup that is hitting very nice. Our server Emme was awesome at taking care of a large group. I ordered the Wagyu Burger with a fried egg and bacon. It did not stand a chance as I devoured every bit of it. The fries were nice and crispy with a nice seasonings. We also got 1/2 pound of peel shrimp with potatoes and corn. Hands down southern home cooking and great entertainment. What more can you ask for? Check out their gift shop too!

Yelp
this place is YOOG! definitely a party place: a fun venue for groups, birthdays, happy hour. and plenty of parking. the ambiance and staff are the stars of this show. the food portion was good but the taste was mediocre at best. we wanted some pink in our burgers and no onion- specified that i am allergic- but my burger came with onion and the beef tasted old and had no pink in it. i ate the yummy melted cheese off of it and left the rest. the fried pickles were rather underwhelming and soggy. the fries were probably the best part, although that doesn't mean much. the place is excessively loud, so we had trouble communicating with our server, despite having been seated outside.
google avatar

Jocelyn N.

Yelp
Our family enjoyed our first visit to The Hangout -- the kids loved the requests to dance on tables and fun atmosphere, along with the huge portions of chicken tenders. My husband and I both got the chicken BLT and there was just too much food to finish. The fried pickles and queso appetizers were great but likely filled us up too much for our entrees. We also found it interesting that we ordered diet cokes but our server gave us Coke Zero instead. We thought they tasted a little off but didn't know we had been given Coke Zero until we got our check and it was listed.
google avatar

Yelp
While we did not try any of the food. The videos and ambiance speak for themselves! We went on vacation to listen to the free music, and it did not disappoint! The Hangout did a great job of getting the crowd involved during the intermission. Lots of places to grab drinks from three different bars easily accessible to the people outside. Different little activities to keep children engaged: cornhole, giant pile of sand. I'm glad we went! They also do fireworks! We had an incredible time!
google avatar

Alicia E.

Yelp
We went here again at night because I want to get the full experience because we did not last time.. we got there and we had to wait about 40 minutes even though we had a reservation. People do not really leave when the show gets started even if they're done which I understand so maybe more shows need to happen. They have a band going outside and they had the foam party with an arcade and sand like it's so cute. I got a chicken Po boy and it was good. Our waitress was okay, she did take a bit. I would definitely be back but the show was so great and that's the best part.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is an overflow of overstimulation, crowds, and activity. Absolutely terrible when you're trying to wind down from a long drive. So, naturally, the kids love it and that makes it plenty of fun in all honesty. We ended up coming back for a second dinner during our week at the beach. Now the big surprise was the food. I fully expected a notch above cafeteria food, I mean this place is all about the atmosphere and experience right? Well, I ordered the surf and turf burger and was very surprised. It was a very solid burger, topped with 4 very good shrimp and some tasso ham gravy. Very good. The outdoor stage area is super cool and chill and the cover band that played while we were there was really good. Come enjoy the chaos and most likely get surprised by the food

Yelp
Great place for a family to 'hangout'. Lots of space outside and in. Live music outside and fun family dancing inside. Expect to wait for a table but there is plenty to do. Definitely a family spot with children. Burger was amazing. Shrimp platter was great as well. Reasonable pricing.
google avatar

Vanity H.

Yelp
Loved this spot and wish we had something like this in my hometown of Chicago. Super cute, fun, exciting, and interactive. Something to get the whole family/table involved. Also enjoyed their outdoor area with live music. Wish I could've spent more time here but we had a show to catch. We ordered some nachos to get something in our stomach and those were 3.5/5. They have a gold variety of options on their menu though. I would overall recommend this place!
google avatar

Leo M.

Yelp
This place is not exactly what I want but it has fun, exciting and entertaining activities while you wait for your food for a BIG party. Plus that's not all it has its own shop!

Michael S.

Yelp
Best fried pickles I ever had! The shrimp/fry's are mediocre at best, I really wouldn't recommend to come here for the food. Great environment/ party vibe. Also mandatory 18% tip. Hard pass

Yelp
We spent three days here for a cheer competition. I was so pleased that they let everyone hang out on the patio under the shade- thanks Hangout!! It was hot and it made it so much more bearable. The food here was really good, and they have a great menu. I'm not quite sure the reviews don't reflect that. I thought the bartenders did a great job every time I went up to order food or drinks. They were always so busy but handled it all really well. We had chips and queso, kids popcorn shrimp, Cobb salad, and peel and eat shrimp. The peel and eat shrimp were really good. (Much better than Joes Crab Shack down the way). And we didn't get any but the chicken tenders looked really good. I also had a frozen margarita that was delicious. The kids loved the shark attack.

Holly S.

Yelp
We love this place for the kids! Food is pretty good. Hannah our server was awesome!!
google avatar

Jamyl C.

Yelp
The food here is amazing The people here respectful and people the store at the food place you

Johnna H.

Yelp
Our group had 4 adults and a 10 year old. We loved the bartenders Michael and Eeshan. They made our visit so fun we came back the next day to see them! The hourly entertainment inside was fun and the band outside was talented. Can't wait to visit on our next trip.
google avatar

Cynthia L.

Yelp
Saw the positive reviews online and wanted to check out dinner at The Hangout. First, so glad we made reservations- our wait was 10 minutes compared to 55 - 60 mins for those who didn't have reservations. Food and service were good. Special shout out to our server Brooklyn- appreciate you! There was a MC (Kevin) who was great- never thought we'd dance on top of a chair at a restaurant. Fun atmosphere! Even my 14 y/o said, "this is pretty cool spot!" Definitely recommend if you're in the Myrtle Beach area!!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing place for tourists to hangout, dine and get entertained with live music/performances. Lots of open games for kids to play. The restaurant has a huge dining hall, seats are available on second floor also. Gift shop has lots of cool souvenirs. Bought some fun stickers from the store. The wish wall is so popular, where visitors write their wishes in a paper scroll and shove it in the wall. It's so colorful and fun to interact.
google avatar

Aaron C.

Yelp
We had a reservation for 8:00 but didn't get seated until 8:50. While we had a large group, the wait was excessive. I ordered the shrimp and grits, which were average and served lukewarm. The live entertainment was repetitive; we heard the same "Happy Birthday" song three times. They need to mix it up and improve their timing for seating. On the positive side, the servers were great and did a wonderful job. Overall, it just wasn't worth the money. If you're in town with a large group, I recommend looking for another place. The outdoor area, which is free and has a bar (but no food), wasn't a bad place to wait--just wish it hadn't taken 50 minutes.
google avatar

Rebecca M.

Yelp
Such a fun place! Fun includes singing, dancing, and trivia! Food was so quick to come after ordering and it was delicious! Our server, Cam, was fantastic!
google avatar

Jeanita O.

Yelp
This restaurant was fun, live, and clean. Plus, the central location is a bonus. The menu prices are also reasonable. It was strange to see people dance on top of a table that they ate on. Thankfully, dancing took place before and after eating. Once the music plays, everything else is a wrap! The food, service, and staff were great! I ate the best red snapper that I've ever eaten. The meal was a salute to Louisiana. I will return again, and I definitely recommend this restaurant for your next hangout.
google avatar

Yelp
*make a reservation* We got here and were told it would be at least an hour and fifteen minute wait. It ended up being less than an hour and completely worth it. This is no ordinary restaurant, it is an experience. Get ready to laugh, dance and be entertained. Our waitress was swift, kind and was able to get all our requests and alterations in. The food was warm and delicious. Zero complaints. Large portions. We also had two burgers not pictured (cheeseburger and wagyu) both cooked to perfection. A must experience in Myrtle Beach. While we waited there was a live band outside, interactive a nice field space to play/dance in and bar service.

Kyle R.

Yelp
This was worth the trip and we would go again. Food was good and atmosphere was great. It was a cool unified place that we really enjoyed. Our waiter was amazing and knew all about everything. Would highly recommend giving it a try.
google avatar

Autumn R.

Yelp
Loud loud loud!!! My kids absolutely loved coming. They enjoyed and the food was delicious so definitely a staple for our vacation visit! Kids ordered the Mac and cheese with fries. Husband had the lifeguard burger medium and he said it was great and filling. I had the chicken Po boy with an avocado added and it was delicious.
google avatar

nathan h.

Yelp
Ambiance is a 10/10 very cool place. If you have kids and need a place to eat. Stop here it's a good interactive place. Let me also note. If you are starving, hangry, not outgoing. Don't come. They have you dance on tables (if you want) but it's very fun. Service was great, but the dancing started right as out food came. I had the smothered snapper. It was very flavorful. The fish was a little overcooked but the flavor made up for everything. Definitely going back
google avatar

Jose Z.

Yelp
The Hangout in Myrtle Beach is a fantastic spot for families looking for a fun and energetic dining experience. The atmosphere is all about having a good time, with interactive activities that encourage both kids and adults to get involved. From singing and dancing on top of tables to the various games and entertainment. It's interactive with customers that want to participate or you can just spectate and enjoy as there was never any pressure, The menu offers a solid variety of American comfort food, featuring everything from burgers and sandwiches to salads and classic desserts. I had the lifeguard burger, which was well prepared for how big it was and delicious in every giant bite. It was well worth it but come hungry if you order the lifeguard. This establishment is perfect for large family groups on vacation or having any type of celebration as they do take requests for shout, outs, and birthdays, anniversaries, etc. One of the unique highlights is the slide from the second-floor dining area, which kids absolutely love. It adds a fun touch to the experience, they can safely get on the slide and bring them down to their exit point directly into the gift store on the first floor. Between the amped atmosphere, live shows during meals, and the abundance of activities, The Hangout is a great place for families who more of an experience rather than just a meal while on vacation in the Myrtle Beach area.
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
The is place is loud! Great to take kids but not for a serious meal. Lots of kids running around and kinda a show. My fish was way over cooked and tough. Maybe something else would be ok. Not a big fan
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
Our visit was a mixed bag. Service was awful, we sat for up to 15 minutes without refills; despite cups being empty when food arrived. Our waitress was so soft spoken we couldn't hear her half the time. Our burgers were delicious, the chicken was overcooked and we sent it back. You can't substitute any sides so it gets expensive quick. The environment was super fun! We loved the space to hang out while waiting. I think if our service would have been better we would have had a better time.
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
Fun and entertaining way to have a late lunch / early dinner. I recommend the blackened snapper with shrimp. Super friendly wait staff.

Justin S.

Yelp
Nothing special, extremely loud. Service is ok considering all the people. Be prepared to eat off of tables that people are standing on constantly. You cannot substitute a side for another side without paying a fee. The food itself is mediocre at best. A cool experience at first but gets old very fast.
google avatar

Danielle H.

Yelp
went to the hangout for the first time & absolutely loved it. the food was great the vibe was amazing!! we sat outside & experienced the live music & a screen to see what's going on indoors. but you can also just hangout outside without ordering anything which was is great!! i'd for sure recommend!!

Grace S.

Yelp
Mixed feelings. I left this restaurant confused as to whether or not I had enjoyed the experience. Very chaotic, which can be either good or bad depending on your preferences. This place has got a lot of noise going on, so be prepared to yell across the table. If you like loud parties, this is the place to go. There was confetti, screaming, and dancing on tables. Also a moment for our veterans. It was very patriotic. The food was sub par. The chicken nachos were mediocre at best, but with the amount of alcohol they put in the drinks here, some at the table were rendered indifferent to the quality of the food and enjoyed the nachos irregardless. The wagyu burger was reported to be pretty good, and the drinks were good, if strong. The staff were super nice, but they were a bit pushy if you refrained from dancing on the tables.

Tiffany P.

Yelp
Fun atmosphere. Food was good. Reasonably priced. Everything we ordered was good. My family had the Waygu burger, lifeguard burger, hang 10 burger, snapper platter, salmon ceasar, kids popcorn shrimp. Queso and chicken nachos. We asked for more chips for the dip and were charged $4 without being told. I thought the extra charge was tacky. I mean, we've already spent over $200, give us a few more chips for our dips. Other than that, everything was good. It's a must visit every time you go to Myrtle Beach. Music, dancing, foam party every hour (outside). Love the hangout. See you next time!
google avatar

Kyle C.

Yelp
This place is amazingly upbeat and fun. Do not come here for a nice quiet lunch or dinner. The service at the bar was pretty exceptional. We lacked for nothing. The drinks same week and someone overpriced but hey, you're on vacation. The shrimp and grits were delicious and the Tasso gravy was the star. Only complaint was none of the food was really hot. The Caesar salad was delicious but the side of mac & cheese was not worth the six bucks but was edible. My son got the fried chicken sandwich and his only complaint was the chicken "was too big" for the bun which I never found to be a problem anywhere.
google avatar

Chloe M.

Yelp
The service was amazing! They have such an energetic crew that seems to genuinely want to be there and see people have a good time. The food was delicious. If you're in the mood for chips and dip, don't sleep on it here because the salsa was banging! The Lifeguard burger is awesome but bring your appetite or be ready to share. It's huge! My daughter is also living her best life with the whistle. I had the Pimento cheese burger and it was everything I expected. The ambiance is hype and really enjoyable if you're looking for an exciting, upbeat time. Family members or friends with sensory issues may not have the same experience so be aware. Be prepared to dance in a table, bring your trivia skills and just enjoy all the entertainment.
google avatar

Natalie H.

Yelp
My son said this was better than Disney world. It's such a fun experience especially for the kids. I recommend a 6:30 reservation and come by 6 to have a drink at the bar to see the 6 show. I requested seats on the main level and we were in the action for the 7:45 show. The kids and all the adults loved it. The shrimp dinner was excellent but unfortunately the burgers were not anyone's favorite.

Ashley K.

Yelp
This place has definitely gone down hill. My family and I were here about 6 months ago and it was fantastic. Today we were here during lunch and the food was nothing to brag about, not totally terrible but nothing I would want to come back for at all. Our waitor only came back to our table once.
google avatar

Tracy Y.

Yelp
After I posted the prior review, I was able to get in touch with the owner and he made it right. He corrected the mistakes of the employees and I was grateful. Thank you.

Ralph S.

Yelp
Wings tasted like they were soaked in vinegar. Had nachos the BBQ was made 3 days ago very dry. We sat outside and listened to to the band and we were finishing our drinks and the manager told us we had to leave as there was a 2 hr wait not my problem . Once we got our food the waitress was in a rush to get us out if there.

Brian H.

Yelp
HORRIBLY LOUD!!!!!!! We had 12 ppl all ages. No one could hear anything. Our waitress was having to yell in our ear and still couldn't hear. Louder than most clubs. Seriously uncomfortable we had to leave.
google avatar

Samantha B.

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch before leaving Myrtle to fly home. Hangout is part of Boardwalk at the Beach, which is within 10 minutes drive of the MYR airport. Due to the off season, the restaurant was fairly empty. We decided to sit at the bar, and the bartender was friendly, providing fast service. I ordered the Snapper PoBoy and it came out quickly. This is a convenient spot if you want to kill time before heading to the airport, and I'm sure in the evening during peak season is a fun spot to hangout.
google avatar

Paul S.

Yelp
This is a super fun place to visit with the family. Dancing, singing, good food and reasonable prices. A must visit

Trina H.

Yelp
This place was FUN. lots of interaction, dancing, live music. Food was good and reasonably priced. It is very loud if anyone in your party has sensory issues you might want to skip it.

Amber G.

Yelp
If you like loud and rowdy, this is great. Kids had a blast dancing on the tables and signing along to the band. Food & drinks are ok, but keep in mind you are paying for the experience (expensive). There is also usually a long wait, even with reservations, but bar seating is first come first serve.
google avatar

Ashley S.

Yelp
The calamari was good and the drinks. Service was good as well kept checking if we needed more. And the environment is pretty nice. Prices were decent as well.

Yelp
BIG FULL SCALE REVIEW HERE - So this place is an experience which is why it probably gets the 5 stars from most reviewers. HOWEVER, It could easily get four stars based on a ton of preferences, for instance: The building itself is enormous and two story. There are two bars with daiquiri flavors along with other specialty cocktails. There are a lot of family style tables so when it's crowded you may sit with some strangers since it is a party atmosphere (preference). A MC / Host welcomed everyone like a DJ and made like a cruise director for the meal. It was a nice touch and made it fun and interactive. There is live music in the dead center of the dining area and they were pretty good but it was very loud and made it hard to hold a conversation if they were playing (preference). In addition to the live music there are two GIANT video walls that had basketball and other sports on. Outside there are lawn games and a big Live stage for hat plays host to bands in the summer I'm sure. Our waitress was Alexa and she was outstanding! Bass drums can jack my head up due to health reasons and she was quick to accommodate us moving and checked in on me through the meal. She was also helpful with questions and quick to refill drinks! The food is where there was a discrepancy. It was pub grub and tasted fine. Nothing ground breaking there. However, my shrimp and grits were really good and I probably enjoyed my meal the most out of a burger, tenders, and Po Boy respectively. At the End of the Day I feel like the Hangout is poppin' during the season! Not much energy on a cold Monday afternoon. I understand the hype but just know you are there for the vibe and party not the food however that is far from disappointing too.

Sydni P.

Yelp
Awesome place to take kids!! Food was good, but the experience is even better. Shark bite drink is great! Would definitely recommend to anyone with kids!
google avatar

Savannah M.

Yelp
The fried pickles were the best part of the meal!! This restaurant is really fun for kids and families. Not so much the vibes for casual dining. The shrimp were okay, very salty and firm. Nothing really special with that.
