Decent afternoon tea in nice surroundings. Cannot fault the service, staff went above and beyond at every interaction. My friend and I chose the Railway Children afternoon tea. We were given a teapot each with our chosen tea and more was provided on request. The food was brought out in stages, which was quite nice, you are not overwhelmed with choice and it probably means is it fresh. My friend was able to change one of her sandwiches due to dietary requirements without a problem. They certainly don't skimp on the food, there was loads and they even offered to box up the cakes we weren't able to eat, which was nice. We were there a few hours and at no point were we made to feel like we had to rush or leave, which can often be the case when you have a slot for afternoon tea at some places.
There was a nice selection of sandwiches with different bread which I appreciated and the cakes were delicious, my favorite being the macaroon which was cherry and white chocolate!! The scones weren't your traditional scones either, which was nice, we were given blueberry, white chocolate and strawberry scones served with jam and marmalade.
It was a great experience and I would happily eat it all over again, but I felt it was slightly overpriced at £42 each. I know afternoon teas can vary and I'm quite happy to pay at the higher end, but you normally have a themed or quirky afternoon tea in a fancier place for that sort of price. At times you do feel that you sitting in the hotel lobby when people walk through in dressing gowns after being at the pool or rolling through with their suitcases! That is why it loses a star for me.
