The Best Breakfasts in Paris for Non-Pastry People

"An Australian-style breakfast and brunch spot in Montmartre that emphasizes chef-level plating and elevated comfort dishes: think baked eggs served in tiny Le Creuset cocottes topped with creamed leeks, mushroom duxelles, and goat cheese, or fried brioche dressed with coffee-poached pears or cardamom-infused strawberries." - Kristy Alpert

The 16 Best Cafes in Paris | Eater

"Tucked in a side street just below the Sacré-Coeur, this Australian-run restaurant plates a variety of brunch foods, from pulled pork buns to French viennoiseries. However, you’d be entirely justified coming just for coffee, whipped up with Melbourne’s Market Lane coffee beans. Located in the 18th arrondissement. Rooksana Hossenally" - Rooksana Hossenally

Great deal for what you get for Montmartre. The location and the ambiance is great. The waitresses are so very nice!! The food is good, many options with eggs, so if you like eggs this is the way to go! The blintzes are really nice, I highly recommend! The large variety of cakes looked really good, but we did not try it!

Google
A very cute and stylish spot tucked away from the main tourist strip, which makes it a refreshing find in an otherwise overly touristy area. The interior is bright and elegant, with a calm atmosphere and not many people. The menu is impressive—avocado toast was perfect, and the cakes are truly delicious. Definitely worth a visit.

Google
A very nice place — cozy, stylish, and the food was great. Overall, I really enjoyed it, but there were a few issues with the service. At first, our order was misunderstood and we received the wrong dish, but the staff reacted quickly and kindly replaced it — thank you for that. Unfortunately, my own order was forgotten, and by the time I realized, the café had already filled up with people and I didn’t have time to reorder. I hope the service becomes a bit more attentive in the future, because the place truly has a lot of potential.

Mike

Google
Very cool cafe with amazingly good food and drinks. Got a cappuccino and OJ that were both great and had the scrambled eggs and French toast which were outstanding! Would have more pics but once it came I just dug right in! Would definitely recommend!

Google
I had a wonderful meal with baked eggs and chorizo. I met Jesse, who is their famous chef. There’s also a book in the restaurant featuring him. He was very nice and I really appreciated the hospitality on a cold rainy February morning.

Google
When I went, I think they were understaffed so it took a very long time to first give a table and then to get my food. I will say the weight was worth it, though, the BLT bagel was perfect for brunch (I got mine with egg). Although it’s a very short walk from the Basilica and tourist shops in Montmartre, the street was quiet and the restaurant was very nice to sit and rest while exploring the area.

Vanessa

Google
A lovely cafe in the city with really tasty food. The quality and flavour are great, though the portions might feel a bit small for the price for some. Coffee is spot on. The vibe is nice and it’s a good place to relax or catch up with friends. It's a bit out of the way but I'd come back again.

Google
Loved this place. Went for breakfast and ordered a baked egg. So delicious. Service was great. Nice quiet spot.

Yelp
Delicious food, wonderful location, and great service! Unlike many cafes in Paris, this is on a quiet (at least on Monday) side street in Montmatre. We sat outside for brunch on a beautiful day. We started with drinks - cappuccino and (finally! Oat milk!) lattes, as well as hot chocolate. Everything was sublime and so damn pretty, too. We each got something different so we could try a variety - scrambled eggs for mom, baked eggs with goat cheese and mushrooms, and Toulouse sausage. Omg delicious! The sausage was so flavorful, the potato was a mess of cheese and butter and incredibly amazingly good, the poached eggs were perfect, and the tomatoes were super flavorful. Everyone else enjoyed their meals too, and the bites of their meals were superb as well. So do so good!!
google avatar

Yelp
Service was great from the moment we answered we felt welcome and were seated immediately. We were given suggestions about food to try that's only on the menu for the day. We were told the chef cook special dishes that are not repeated. Food was great. Everything appeared organic and was made to order. The hot chocolate was delicious and filling not drinking the whole thing before your meal. The ambiance of this place seems like a great place for family or friends to gather.

Yelp
This place is super close to the Basilica Sacre Couer so it's a good brunch option for when you are in the area for the basilica or to wander around a cool neighborhood. The restaurant does feel more catered for folks from the Anglosphere - most people in the restaurant were speaking English. I ordered the duck confit and it was good - nothing was objectionable but nothing was outstanding either. I would come here again but I wouldn't really go out of my way to visit.
google avatar

Dominic K.

Yelp
A true gem. Came here while walking around the Sacre Couar. Very cute spot overlooking the hill. Really well designed breakfast spot. We had the scrambled eggs and some coffees. They have these amazing little doughnut balls they serve with every coffee. They make these fresh every day. We will definitely be back for the French toast or the cake of the day. Both looked amazing! Shoutout to our waitress Val. She was so helpful and funny. Would come back just chat with her again.
google avatar

Andrea M.

Yelp
It's closed for renovations. Nothing much to note besides uncertain of reopening. Will edit review if and when I can try it.
google avatar

Yelp
Food quality, presentation and service were exemplary. They were attentive and careful with an eating companion who had a food allergy. They came to double check and alerted us that they would substitute one item without our prompting. Prices were reasonable and I am a very happy customer
google avatar

Cathy G.

Yelp
A little down under comes to the city of love! The food was delicious, fresh and tasty! The baguettes were fresh and soft. The flavors to the chorizo and eggs was something different for me as I'm so use to Mexican chorizo. But the fries added to the pot brought everything together! Explosion with every bite. The pulled pork bun was a variety of textures that all blended so well together. The fried sticky rice with the pork was the perfect Combo. The burrata was a simple plate. The burrata tasted fresh and melted in your mouth. Let's talk about the Hot chocolate! Actually just taste it! The pot comes with enough for about two servings. And it's to die for! The staff was attentive and knowledgeable. The space was welcoming and warm on the cold April morning!

Yelp
Café sympa à côté de Sacré coeur, on a pris des œufs cocotte moi celui avec épinards et asperges. Frais et délicieux et un intérieur très beau.

Yelp
Amazing food in a very touristy part of france, very close to the cathedral so it can be a quick pit stop before or after those hundreds of steps one might have to endure. We came on a cold spring morning for a brunch the huge portion size and an unusual French style breakfast made our day. Most favorite was the brioche toast aka the French toast with beautiful edible flowers and pana cotta . The baked egg with shrimps was good a bit gooey and cheesy, the scrambled egg with bacon with the thinly sliced potatoes were amazing. The best Matcha I had tried in many months hands down. The service was fast very friendly English speaking staff. A must visit if you are in this area and looking for somewhat of a change from usual dry croissant breakfast

Richie B.

Yelp
The service and food were amazing. They have vegan delicious vegan and non-vegan options. The ambience was welcoming and casual.

Yelp
This place was a 40 second walk from the Basilica Sacre Couer. It's an artsy area with many musicians, artists, painters, dancers, and creators. I had actually looked up best breakfast in the area of Montmarte and this and Lou Lou's popped up. Lou Lou's seemed rocking and rolling and also looked good but we chose Hardware Societe. Our waitress was from Texas which I welcomed the English. My wife and I started with croissants - I chose the chocolate croissant - they were thin and perfectly flaky, the layer of chocolate was just right. The orange juice was filled with pulp - it was so tasty I had a second glass. My wife ordered the mushrooms and boiled eggs with baguette. I ordered "scrambled eggs" but it was French scrambled. I'm an "egg person" - I use eggs for fuel for weight lifting and satiety; eggs are great so I already knew about this style of scrambled egg and have attempted to cook on my own. Mine were good but this is Paris! These eggs were the best I have ever had in 48 years. They also came with some corn salsa on the side that was slightly spicy. It was actually also delicious; but, the eggs alone were perfection! I highly recommend Hardware Societe for breakfast! We chose to eat outside but inside was small but decorated very nicely. The bathroom was pristine! Also the staff was extremely friendly. We saw the cook notice a small boy getting upset waiting in line for the bathroom, so he gave the boy a huge handful of giant raspberries! It was a selfless thing to do and the chef's gesture was genuine. Our waitress from Texas and all the waitresses are artists in some way - be it painting or music. We shall definitely return here!

Yelp
Everything was great ALWAYS GET THE CAKE! the coffee is missed now that I'm back in the states. The servers speak multiple languages. And the music was great

J P.

Yelp
The food is outstanding and the service is warm and welcoming. This little Aussie joint near Sacré Coeur is worth the stop. We had the smoked salmon and eggs, the pain perdu and the chicken parmigiana sandwich. All were excellent. The music was bumping but not too loud and there was a steady stream of patrons keeping it lively. Be patient, the kitchen is tiny and it is worth any wait.

Jonathan W.

Yelp
I came here and had the Baked Tofu. Their menu has so many delicious items and it was hard to choose one. This is close to the Basilica of Sacre-Coeur so you can swing by here before or after your visit to the church.
google avatar

LilYelper ..

Yelp
Stumbled upon this restaurant after visiting Sacré-Cœur. Did not know what to expect but was very impressed. Staff were incredibly friendly and personable. Food was absolutely delicious , you really could not go wrong with any choice. Would walk up stairs again ‍.
google avatar

Jorene D.

Yelp
WONDERFUL SERVICE, cute ambiance, delicious food & drinks. Will come back the next time I visit Paris! Thank you.
google avatar

Shel L.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch after visiting the Church just because it was close by... and what a wonderful surprise. This was one of the best meals I ate in Paris during my week long visit. The staff were attentive and kind, the cafe itself was adorable, and the food WAS DELICIOUS. Everyone in my family was so impressed and we would eat there all the time if we could. Hopefully we'll be back to Paris to eat again. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Danielle L.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast! The fried brioche with fruit and matcha was incredibly tasty! I also ordered the baked egg (chorizo) and although the portion looks small, it's VERY filling. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Olivia H.

Yelp
So amazing. The food, the service, the location. One of the best breakfasts I've ever eaten. I would fly back to Paris just to get breakfast here and see Sacre-Couer.

Erica Z.

Yelp
This place is a MUST! I got the sausage and omg the tomato's and sausage and creamy mash and jam are just to die for!! Lattes are delicious too! Vibe is immaculate
google avatar

Ryan T.

Yelp
Generous portions, gluten free options, and a very friendly multilingual waitstaff. If you're hungry, try the scrambled eggs with bacon - it's impressive!
google avatar

Salvador P.

Yelp
One of our best breakfast in Paris, the staff was great and we wish we could come back one more time!!
google avatar

Yelp
WARNING: ONLY GOOD CAPPUCCINO IN PARIS are you american? Or Italian? Or a country that drinks coffee? Then, you will only like the coffee here while in Paris. I don't know why, I don't know how, I don't know if baristas are on strike, but this is the one place for good coffee. The food is really good too. But I refuse to drink coffee anywhere else.
google avatar

Rabia J.

Yelp
This restaurant is located near by the Sacrè- Coeur Basilica. It's a must for some good breakfast. It's a small restaurant so be prepared to wait or when you even get seated, be prepared to wait... What we ordered: Fried toast/brioche - topped with delicious berries and cream. Scrambled eggs with salmon and potatoes with a brioche bun. Hearty and good dish. Matcha latte- perfectly made and rich. Orange juice- fresh and refreshing. Food is a 5 star in category with fresh / good quality ingredients used. Not your average cafe or breakfast place in Paris. Service is more like 2-3 star. They were extremely busy and just placing a order took awhile plus trying to get the check was tough too. If you have time- this place is excellent. If your on a time crunch to see multiple sightings of Paris then it might not be for you. ~

Yelp
Heaven on a plate! Incredible food and service. 10 stars! Go!!! It's worth it. Happy bellies!!!

Al K.

Yelp
We came across this place while walking around Sacre Couer. Valerie, our hostess, was very warm and friendly, speaks fluent English and has been a great hostess. Our table had a view of the street. The restaurant is cozy but not crowded or crammed, spacious for Paris. We ordered the smoked salmon on pancakes, veggie baked egg and croissant with jams. Everything we ate was excellently prepared and delicious, but the salmon was the star of the show. I believe there was a pound of smoked salmon on the plate. The baked eggs were topped with Brillat Savarin melted into the pot allowing to taste the cheese with every bite. I have not had a bad croissant in Paris and this is one of them. Overall very clean and excellent experience. Would definitely recommend for breakfast .
google avatar

Natalie C.

Yelp
Great location right by the Basilica of the Sacred Heart! The place was very well decorated! I ordered the tuna millefeuille and it was delicious and beautifully presented! One of the eggs was a bit overcooked but the taste completely made up for it! The avocado purée made the whole dish taste super fresh! The service was relatively fast considering we came during the middle of a lunch rush. I highly recommend stopping here while sightseeing!

Yelp
At the top of many many stairs. It is literally on a side street next to Sacré Coeur. And the only way to get to the top of this small mountain is many many sets of stairs, no matter what direction you come from. So we were extra hungry on our arrival. Saturday noonish there is a line outside to be seated. Get your name on the list. Line moves faster for couples than bigger parties. I believe our wait was 20 minutes. Inside is tight. Well duh, still in Europe. There's a front dining area and a back. Back has a view of the city if you are close enough to the large window. Menu is breakfast brunch. I went with a chai latte. It was very hot and extra foamy, delicious. Also the pork belly and fried eggs. The pork belly was a very generous portion drizzled with a delicious tomato jam. The crispy edge of the pork and sweet jam were a fabulous combination. Two sunny side up eggs were riding on a thick slice of hearty multi grain bread, and dusted with a smoky paprika. The potato and bacon croquets were also big and extremely hot. More deliciousness. Over all meal - kicked the plate clean.

Yelp
First day in Paris and WOW!! This breakfast was hard to top off. Came in around opening time before heading to Disneyland Paris. It was about a 10 minute walk from the nearest Metro. Did a little digging on Yelp on some menu itmes before coming in. We were welcomed right away and seated by the bench. My fiancé ordered a Cold Brew and I got a Latte. Wow, they were both the best coffee we have ever tasted and a great way to start our trip in Paris. I ordered a croissant on the side, and their brioche. One plate is plenty for two trust me. If you are in Paris, then please stop by. It is originally an Australian coffee shop to my surprise. It made me honestly want to go to Australia to check out their coffee spots.
google avatar

Tobi O.

Yelp
First, there will likely be a line when you get there. The food is worth the wait! The crispiest pork belly I've ever had, which was perfectly seasoned and cooked. I had a small mishap trying to cut it because I underestimated the CRUST on that thing (lol). The Fried Brioche is delightful. The bread in Paris is just better overall, but this brioche was so buttery on it's own. It comes with creme fraiche and berries on top, which aren't super sweet - somebody like me who DOESN'T have a sweet tooth can enjoy it! Also, the drizzle is a hibiscus syrup. In general, I'm sold when I see hibiscus in a drink or dessert. I thoroughly enjoyed it! Oh! The chocolat chaud (hot chocolate) comes "deconstructed" - a scoop of buttery chocolate in a teacup, with cocoa'd warm milk in a pot for you to poor on your own. LOVED IT. I don't even like chocolate, people! French chocolate isn't overly sweet and doesn't coat my mouth the same way US versions do.

Yelp
My friends and I stayed in Paris September 2022, in Montmarte specifically. And let me tell you the Hardware Societe was the highlight of our paris trip in terms of food. The interiors and vibes are absolutely amazing. The servers are extremely friendly and the dishes are sooo unique. We split the special brioche of the day and each got coffee drinks. The brioche was absolutely delicious. My first meal there was the eggs with tomatoes and bread. We fell in love so much with this place we came back for round 2 our final day in Paris. Top notch quality food Our last day we got hot chocolate with our breakfast because it was so cold outside and of course it was also amazing. genuinely some of the best brunch I've ever had.
google avatar

Yelp
It's actually been a while since I've been here, so the photos I've attached are actually from 2019 .. oops! Despite the time between my experience and the review, this place has surely made an impression on me and I'm still referring this place to friends to this day. This Australian French cafe is the sweetest thing! My friend and I (note: part of 2) got here pretty early, but it was still super packed. We were asked to wait across the street and we slowly filtered in as tables emptied up. I opted for the FRIED BRIOCHE and although it's seemingly small, it's decadence was more than enough for me and left me stuffed. There were so many different textures and flavors - definitely worth a go if you have a sweet tooth for breakfast. Their cappucino was also pretty good and standard, can't go wrong. Definitely kept me energized throughout my day. TLDR: 12/10 I MISS IT TAKE ME BACK
google avatar

Ali T.

Yelp
After making the hike to this beautiful area with a view, you might think you hiked to Melbourne, Australia where the original Hardware Societe is. Every item on the menu has an interesting twist that takes the dish to another level. They have a menu for everyone that covers vegan, vegetarian and tree nut allergies. The duck was cooked perfectly and the sides were delicious. Save room for dessert because their version of bread pudding with raspberries, fresh mint and lemon is out-of-this-world.

Antoinette P.

Yelp
Everything was beyond good. I loved it, and my tummy left happy. Excellent food & service.
google avatar

Marcela O.

Yelp
Thank goodness for yelp and discovering The Hardware Societe because up until my meal here, everything I had in Paris sucked :( Although I can't remember the exact names of the breakfast plates we had, I will say for certain it was delicious, filling, and worth every euro! Not to mention it is within walking steps to the Sacre-Couer so you get a delicious meal, and an amazing view and tour of the beautiful Church afterwards. Service was friendly and food came quick, and I will always remember The Hardware Societe as the best meal I had in Paris. I highly recommend it to anyone but especially those from the States like myself who need more than a croissant and coffee for breakfast! See pics attached :)

Jean B.

Yelp
Total package. Great vibe, kind staff, excellent food! Hot chocolate w the Grenache was perfect. I'm a fan of the 64 degree egg. Who knew??? #NoEggsOnToast #Cheers #ElderberryCider #MushroomTart
google avatar

Debbie P.

Yelp
BE PREPARED TO WAIT. Once inside it's cozy .... read tight! But it's so worth it. The signature dish is pork belly. The pork belly was cooked to buttery perfect. Eggs done right and hardy toast. They have tons of fresh baked goods and other brunch options but with limited time in Paris, I opted for the signature dish. It's one of the only places in Paris that If you sneeze they'll say "bless." Why? The owner is Australian. Not sure how he wound up in Paris but I'm glad he did!
google avatar

Mindy L.

Yelp
Came here one morning for brunch because it was recommended by a friend and I have to say, it was a very solid brunch spot. A little small but cozy and quaint! The staff were busy but friendly and definitely attentive! I would recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

Nataly K.

Yelp
It's the best place for breakfast in Paris! The owners are from Australia. You would find here a lot of options for brunch and breakfast. We had scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and brioche and eggs Benedict with crab and brioche. Coffee is excellent here. They serve an Australian blend of coffee. Very dog friendly. We gonna come back here for sure! P.S: you can buy their recipe book here.
google avatar

Carl W.

Yelp
Delicious coffee! Great space and location. Lovely staff. Very kind. Not crazy busy like the area. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Sandra K.

Yelp
Finding a brunch spot in a foreign country can be a daunting task, so let me make this easier - eat here! After scouring the internet and Instagram for my first brunch of my Paris trip, the unique menu, charming interior, Montmartre location, and rave reviews lured me in. We walked in on a weekday at 1pm without any wait. The order: Sweet for me. Savory for him. Tuna Millefeuille: Definitely on the lighter side in terms of portions, but so fresh and delicious. The yuzu aioli has a zing that paired perfectly with the seared tuna. Yum! Fried Brioche: Equal parts pretty & indulgent. Your standard French toast is elevated with a pink meringue top, a little hard to eat, but I took a bite after enjoying the brioche. Delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
It's no secret that I love all things French and all things Aussie, so a combination of the two is sure to blow my mind! After several months of having this place bookmarked and following their Instagram page (after it was recommended by another favorite restaurant in Paris, Holybelly), I couldn't wait to finally try it during my next trip to Paris. I have my favorites in this city, but I had a feeling this place would be a new addition to my go-to list. Absolutely worth the wait and anticipation, and not to mention the spontaneous cardio/glute workout hiking up Montmartre and the Sacré-Cœur stairs! Let's just say our appetites were ready for The Hardware Société when we arrived! Luckily on a weekday morning, it wasn't crowded, and we were seated in the back by the window right away. Gorgeous, quintessential Parisian views, and warm, bright, and cozy yet modern ambiance, plus the faint scent of lavender floating in from the flowers just outside the window. What a way to set the stage! Our brunch was delicious and flat whites were on point! We ordered the Champignons Grillés (Roasted Mushrooms) and Oeufs Brouillés (Scrambled Eggs) without bacon, so all very vegetarian friendly as well. The service was great, and of course it was helpful that everyone spoke English, as my French needs a lot of work! Another bonus is that they grow their herbs themselves, so everything is very fresh. I'm already thinking about when I can return to Paris next and eat here again!
google avatar

Lily Y.

Yelp
One of the best French toast style brioches I've ever had!! If you are in Montmartre area, definitely definitely try the brioche here. The other dishes were good, but a little too salty for my taste bunds. Had to drink a lot of water to wash it down. They tried really hard to get depth of flavor and texture in there, but it was just a bit too salty. Interior is cute, service is slow, and expect to wait in line. It took us maybe 30-40 minutes to get a table at 2:30pm.... pretty crazy. Aside from the brioche, everything else about this place is alright.
google avatar

Alyssa F.

Yelp
The Hardware Société is amazing. They're open until 4 pm, so they're the perfect choice for a late brunch if you've been busy exploring Paris. A mix of locals and tourists, this trendy spot has some great food and kind service. They also have an English menu to make ordering easier for the non French speaking among us. I tried their iced tea, which is uniquely flavored and nicely minty. I also opted for the Scrambled Eggs Deux. Served on a brioche bun, these eggs come with thick cut (bone in!) bacon, guacamole, spinach, and are packed full of flavor. One of my favorite dishes in Paris! Give this place a try if you're near Sacre Coeur, it's a great option for breakfast, brunch, and lunch!

Yelp
So my Australian friend I met at my hostel kept raving on and on about how there was an Aussie Cafe in Paris and how amazing it was. I was skeptical, since I was in Paris, and wasn't exactly looking for Australian food, but he told us we all had to go here for brunch cause it was really good, and so I did. And he was right, it was super super good! I had the Pork Belly with Eggs and it was AMAZING. Everything was executed super well, from the crispy tater tots, to the excellent fried egg to the perfectly crispy pork belly, the food was just downright delicious. The pork belly had a nice crispy skin, and went down super nicely to a juicy and tender meat center, the food was just delicious! There was a bit of a wait, as there is quite a line to get in, but it was worth it! So amazingly delicious! And afterwards we went up and saw the Sacre Coeur too!

Anna G.

Yelp
This place is absolutely amazing! The food is a solid 11/10 and the seating is so cute. I recommend for breakfast getting there early before they open because otherwise there's a line out the door because they are just that amazing! The baked eggs were extraordinary and the lobster over eggs Benedict was simply fabulous! The hot chocolate is a must have as well! It's well worth traveling across Paris for. I've been here twice and was just here for breakfast but I'll be back for lunch! Everything tastes so fresh and is super filling. I hope you enjoy as much as I do! Cheers :)

Yelp
Very cute brunch spot in Montmarte. Prepare yourself for a short hike up if you've taken the M line to Barbès-Rochechouart. The staff was predominantly Aussie (and friendly at that), so if was easy to communicate / order. We came here on a Saturday morning for brunch. We arrived maybe 30 mins after opening and there was already a short wait for tables. My advice would be to come when they open.

Paymon R.

Yelp
Loved the food and ambiance. Sat outside in a nice patio. They have so many options that I order the one that has eggplant and I usually don't eat:-) it was still amazing.

Jane V.

Yelp
What a great dining experience. It is located a short walk below Sacre Coeur Church.Cute little place with super friendly, helpful staff and a creative, oh-so yummy brunch menu complete with great coffee and freshly squeezed oh. I had the most delicious BURRATA with honey roasted heirloom carrots, mint, parsley, pumpkin hummus, pistachio & hazelnut dukkah, and 64 degree eggs ( think soft boiled eggs) . It was take your breath away delicious and was sad to see my plate so clean. Hubs had MADAGASCAN TIGER PRAWN BENEDICT which consisted of poached tiger prawns, tarragon bearnaise, piquillo pimentos, soft herbs, bun noir, 64 degree eggs. It was gorgeous to look at , sent waves of delicious scents my way and he raved about. Love, love loved this yummy place.
