The Hart - Review - Marylebone - London - The Infatuation

"The Hart in Marylebone is the newest pub-restaurant from The Public House Group, with a similar set-up and British classics. We’re fans of their previous spots—The Pelican,The Hero, and, outside of London,The Bull in Charlbury" - Sinéad Cranna

Really solid lunch at The Hart on Boxing Day. Food was really nice for a pub on top of high expectations since visiting other sister pub like The Hero etc. Service and atmosphere was good although the pub was very quiet at the time of my booking / day it was. Interior was warm and welcoming. Very cosy! We sat downstairs in the pub, not the restaurant floors upstairs. It’s not getting a top rating as I feel like the menu could be more rounded and approachable. For example we ordered a special and there was not one side or anything else on the menu that would go with it. I feel like it’s not a wet led pub and more focused on food so the food is more key to your experience. Portions on the smaller end for a high ish price point (it is Marylebone) Would definitely come back but think the menu needs work. Picture doesn’t do it justice but steak was seasoned and cooked well 🥩

On a trendy Marylebone corner, snug decor for an intimate meal, or a cozy catch up with friends. Ground floor includes a few private tables to seat 4, but upstairs white tablecloths and wood panelling sets a warm feel and is more comfortable. Menu is modern British, snacks, starters, salads, mains and some delicious desserts. Try the crab cakes, smooth paté and brown toast, and cheese sticks (melt in your mouth). The next table enjoyed soup - looked good). The meat and potatoes was served rare as requested. My fish soup was spot on, but the thick cut lamb chops took the prize. Side gem salad was generous and tasty dressing. The table shared a chocolate dessert which we could hardly finish. Wine starts at £44/ bottle but if you ask for the house wine its £54 so do specify if you're watching the budget. Many by the glass. This could become a regular for us. Great atmosphere, very good service, delicious food. Part of a quality group of pubs.

An incredibly beautiful evening ! Came for an early dinner on the top floor, the restaurant is cosy and candlelit, it was lovely seeing the place fill up for the evening. We asked the waiter for recs and were not disappointed. The crab cakes, mince roll and Kedgeree were delicious. The banoffee pie is a must to finish off ! Service was warm, friendly and attentive. Can’t wait to come back soon :)

Nice to have a new alternative in our neighbourhood. They are heaving, which is excellent for them. The ground floor looks like a well-run local pub, full of beautiful people, especially chic ladies. It is genuinely lovely to see so many female punters in a pub; it creates a great mix and energy. We made our way upstairs, where the tables are tiny and cramped. One cannot help but feel like an industrial hen house. That said, they do use free-range chicken for cooking, thanks god All the dishes were mediocre at best. The salads, in particular, felt no better than a high-street salad bar. Nothing more, nothing memorable. Service was hit-or-miss, though in my opinion, more miss than hit. None of the food runners knew anything about the dishes they were delivering. On some occasions, they did not even know the name of the dish. Ridiculous. They are very strict about return times and continuously remind you, just in case you forget. And forget about having a hot drink. You will be met with vague and inconsistent excuses about the bar. And they like reciting the entire dessert menu in a loud pub. We nodded our heads and heard almost nothing. Simply asked the bill! Tried. Tested. Verdict. Never again.

Had a lovely dinner here - the pumpkin and the chicken soups, the mushroom with cream cheese and chives, the hake with creamed spinach and the banoffee pie were outstanding (crab cakes are alright). The ambiance is lovely and cozy, although it’s quite crammed, especially on the staircases, so can get quite loud and tightly packed during peak mealtimes. The staff are friendly and service is fairly quick. Will be back!

Amazing experience. Warm welcome by everyone. Super attentive with a hint of humour, makes a difference ;) the menu is simple and outstanding. We had Rose Ruinart, Negroni as an aperitif, pumpkin soup with sage starter then my husband had fish stew I had steak and potatoes. All cooked to perfection. So hearty, cosy. Really loved it all

Dinning area was so hectic on Friday night. Perfect atmosphere, interior is too pretty! Food was soooo goood, we ordered crab cakes as starter, kedgeree and steak & potatoes as main. We dont know his name but the staff serving us is so friendly! We also ordered desserts, LOVE THEM SO MUCH. The only imperfection was we hope the table could be held slightly longer but we understand friday night is always busy! Will definitely come back again!

A disappointing and confusing dining experience at The Hart in Marylebone, with several issues that make it hard to recommend - despite one standout dessert. The food delivery was poorly timed, with dishes arriving at different points, meaning some plates were left to go cold while others were still being prepared. While not the biggest problem of the evening, it definitely took the edge off the experience and set the wrong tone. The main issue is the menu itself, which lacks imagination and feels unfinished. Dish descriptions are extremely minimal (often just a couple of words) which gives no real sense of what you’re ordering. The steak was served with no sauce options whatsoever, which felt restrictive and very school-dinner basic in style. When we asked if it was possible to add chips or any potatoes, the waitress responded abruptly that they don’t do sides at all. In fact, there are no sides available on the menu, which is baffling for a pub-style venue. Service overall felt brusque rather than welcoming, adding to the sense that the venue hasn’t quite decided what it wants to be. Is The Hart an office boozer, a village pub, or a restaurant? Right now, it sits awkwardly between all three and doesn’t fully succeed at any. The only real highlight, and the reason this review isn’t one star, is the banoffee pie, which was genuinely good and easily the best thing we ate. In summary, The Hart Marylebone suffers from a poorly thought-out menu, limited options, abrupt service, and inconsistent timing. With clearer direction and more care, it could improve, but as it stands, it falls short of expectations.
