The Haven Review - Jamaica Plain - Boston - The Infatuation
"If you told us that The Haven was an actual Scottish pub that was air-lifted to JP directly from the moors outside St. Andrews, we’d probably believe you (and not just because we don’t have a good grasp on how transatlantic aviation works). It’s a cozy little cabin of a pub with a very Scottish menu (including haggis) and lots of good brown liquor. This place is almost perfect for cooler nights in the fall and winter - the only thing holding it back is that its fireplace burns gas instead of peat." - Dan Secatore
Very popular and busy. Not a fan of the dinning room, cramped and crowded. Food was decent but nothing over the top. More of a neighborhood hangout rather than a destination.

Service was wonderful.
Ordered the Haven burger with fries and had two Malibu and Sprite drinks. All of it tasted great.
Our waitress was awesome and attentive. She's also the one who made the delicious drinks for us.
The atmosphere has a tavern feel. It's kind of dark and cozy. You can tell it's an older business due to it being a little outdated. It's still a comfortable place to eat and hangout with family and friends.

The prices are ridiculous. I was gonna be okay with the steak sandwich costing $6.00 more than it did before, but then they charged another $2.00 for cheese. Used to be able to get mushrooms and onions on it for no additional cost as well. I shutter to think what that might have cost. This was one of my favorite places to go before they shut down. Very sad to say, I won't be back!! $30 for a tavern steak sandwich and 2 beers is ridiculous!!!
UPDATE: You're correct, the service, atmosphere and food were all great. I even enjoyed our conversation. The issue is the prices and then not saying anything about an extra charge for the cheese. I guess most people just don't even think to change the price range of what they spend per person, but $20 per person would be the very least. Again, $30 for a tavern steak sandwich and 2 beers is crazy. A year ago the same thing with a great tip to the server was around $25.

got the haven salad and the buffalo wings. the salad was kinda mid. the red peppers were slimy and there were minimal toppings and no croutons when i asked for extra. the wings were a mixture of crispy and mushy wings, flavor was great but they put some weird sauce in the box.
decent spot. has definitely gone down in quality. will ask for wings well done and forgo the salad.

Neighborhood bar. I was in the mood for a big juicy burger and was not disappointed. The Blue cheese slaw was an unexpected treat! Their AC was on the blink on a StL summer afternoon, but the beer was cold and the staff friendly.

I was happy with my experience at The Haven. I had a friendly server and everything was fresh and arrived quickly. I had the baked cod with onion petals and steamed broccoli. My only complaint is that it tasted like the oil needed a change--which is to be expected at a pub that serves a lot of fried food daily. It didn't ruin my experience or even stop me from eating the onion petals. Their restrooms were clean and well-stocked. There are multiple TVs showing different sports and shows, which some may find distracting. My meal was very affordable, and I plan to try the salmon if I go back.

My GO TO place for fried cod. The waitresses are very on top of things with orders and drink refills.
EDIT: Visited again and had the nicest waitress and bus boy, John. Very good dinner. The carrot cake was delicious!
