We went in for dinner and drinks and really enjoyed everything about the place. Amazing staff, great music and good food! It was the day we learned the history behind “Citywide”. Talk to your service industry!

Google
Really great spot. The kettle chips were amazing, and the caesar salad so refreshing. We had a chicken sandwich and a Philly special and they were so delicious. It seems like they have a seasonal menu. The food was so good I forgot to take a picture of our sandwiches!

Google
Food was all perfectly fine, but I think you come here for the atmosphere. The back room is dimly lit, and they play sports on the TV. It was a profound and deeply restful escape from the bustling city. I got the cheesesteak which was quite good, and the fries were amazing. My girlfriend got a well done burger, so I am in no place to assess what a properly made burger would have been like. Service was nice; not overbearing but always seemed to be there when we needed something. Nice little spot. Maybe a tad expensive for what it is.

Happy hour was good. That Jamaican punch hit and was tasty. The wings were delicious. The atmosphere is chill and laid back. The bartender was super engaging and easy to talk to. I definitely will be back.

Stopped in this bar last night & had the most incredible date night. They were certainly short staffed, but Kevin our bartender never let us feel forgotten about. The food was fantastic. The cocktails were even better. Wish we lived closer to visit more often.

We had a large group (about 15) for dinner on a Thursday night and the organizer had the back half of the restaurant set up just for us. The two owners, bartender and waitstaff were all very friendly, attentive without being smothering and really showed their enthusiasm for their food and beverages. I tried their Witchhammer cocktail, which was excellent. I had two! Pork belly app and the steak frites were wonderful and finished with the olive oil cake. Highly recommend!

Visiting Philly and walked in on a whim, what a great pub. Wings and pork sandwich were great, atmosphere was quiet and inviting, service was excellent. John behind the bar is awesome. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Philly.

Came here for CCD Restaurant week on a rainy Friday. John, the bartender, greeted us as soon as we entered. As we were waiting for the rest of our party, we chatted with John and he was telling us about the history of the restaurant that had formerly been the Irish Pub. John also ended up as our waiter. He was friendly, attentive and efficient as he effortlessly handled the few other tables and the bar by himself! All our plates were plentiful and delicious. The salad alone could have been a meal. The space itself is charming and cozy with a beautiful bar area. We will definitely be returning. And by the way, John deserves a raise!

Yelp
The was just ok and the decor was dark and moody. The staff was friendly but our server could have been a little more attentive

Yelp
great location near many famous restaurants in Washington Square West. all of them had a 1.5 hour wait time so we "settled" for The Hayes - but i loved it here! great location, service was meh (not very happy or fast), but the host was super nice! i think they are a bit understaffed, but yall should still check it out. but high quality food for great prices! i enjoyed the hummus a lot as well as the fries.

Yelp
I stopped by The Hayes one night with a friend when I was craving a burger with a cocktail. I had seen The Hayes on FYI Philly and thought it would be a good spot for both. I started off with a well mixed Old Fashioned. My friend was really hungry so she ordered fries for us to share. It was a large plate of crispy fries that were good for sharing. I proceeded to order the Tavern Burger while she ordered the Roast Pork Sandwich. I had a bite of the sandwich and it was a disappointment. The roll was not toasted properly and was too thick for the amount of meat. My burger seemed to be perfectly cooked with the right amount of cooper sharp cheese. It looked delicious, like a burger is supposed to look. But when biting into it I was disappointed yet again because it was not as juicy as I expected. And the bun didn't seem like it was brioche. It was a good burger, but not memorable. In a city with so many good bars and restaurants, there was simply nothing about The Hayes that stood out enough to make me want to go back.

Yelp
We went for restaurant week, was not busy at all. We ordered drinks and started with the beet salad. It was so much lettuce drenched in oil, the dressing was not stirred. We had to dig and find the beets under all that lettuce. The beets were ok, but served so cold, they loss their flavor. Next, I got the salmon with cabbage and beans. The salmon was cooked well and served hot, my vegetables were barely luck warm. My friend got the eggplant Parmesan, but asked for no sauce. It came out as just that, no garnish... nothing to make it look presentable let alone edible. She said eggplant had some flavor. The good part? Olive oil cake was one of the best I've ever had. When our bill came my friend had ordered vodka on the rocks. The rocks were a $3.00 charge, she had never had that happen. Also, on the bill was a $4.50 charge for using a credit card, this should have been noted on their website, or menu! Overall, not a good experience.

Yelp
Came away from the Hayes pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it - would absolutely recommend to anyone. There's a good menu and everything tasted great, the service was quick and friendly, the ambience is cozy but not stuffy. Would love to go back and try the extensive drink options sometime as well. Walked by the Hayes so many times and sorry that I didn't give it a try until now - big fan!

Yelp
Came here shortly before closing on a Saturday as a warm place to land after having quite a chaotic night. John and Logan were both wonderfully friendly and welcoming people. I'll definitely be returning in the future to fully experience The Hayes

Yelp
We made a reservation for 5:30 p.m. 2 people in our party arrived 10 minutes early and the last 3 arrived 10 minutes late. (10 minutes) Traffic was bad. We waited 45 minutes for someone to stop at our table and take a drink order. Our waiter's name was Bodan (if that is for real). I wanted him to know that we had a show to catch and his response was, " everyone has a show, you're not special". Wow, we should have left right then, however with a show across the street we didn't know where to go without a reservation. He finally arrived with the drinks and came back about 15 minutes later to take the food order which was at about 6:20. We're not too worried because the show doesn't start until 7:30. He comes back to the table at 6:50 to ask us questions about our order. Mind you, burgers, a grilled cheese sandwich, and a steak for meals so, now I know he hasn't even put the order in yet. People around us who came in well after us are getting their food and here we sit waiting. When he asked about the order, we ordered another round of drinks since he was at the table. When he brings the drinks back he says, "wow guess I can't count, I brought an extra drink", He proceeds to stand at the table and drinks the extra drink in a gulp and leaves. Our food never arrived until 7:25. We had 5 minutes to eat and get to the show. About this time, someone else comes to the table with boxes. I'm going to sit in a show and hold my burger on my lap. No thank you. She starts making every excuse you can imagine about why our food took so long and I told her we had enough. No more excuses necessary. My friend asked for some tin foil instead of a box since she thought she could fit her grilled cheese in her purse and the response was, "I guess I could go to the store and buy you some tin foil since we don't have any". Seriously, DO NOT EAT HERE. Rude is the only way to describe this place and since we were a party of 5, they put the tip right on the bill. We ended up paying for the drink the waiter drank as well and food no one had time to eat. We didn't realize about the drink that until we looked at the bill after the show. $350 including the tip. What a waste of time and money. Horrible people, horrible place. Please take your business elsewhere. Bathrooms were disgusting as well.

Yelp
We had a 5:45 reservation before seeing a 7:30 show. We never got our food. Never! When we asked what was going on, the waiter shook his head and said nothing. He said he couldn't ask the kitchen if and when our food would arrive. No apologies were made. They knew we were screwed-and they could not have cared less. I have never had an experience like this is my life. Stay away. The Hayes does not have their act together. Their staff is very poorly trained across the board.

Yelp
A romantic restaurant with exceptional cocktails and great craft beers on tap (Pliney the Elder!). Attentive service and great ambience make this a must visit in Philly.

Yelp
When you come, refer to the cocktail menu at top left and get "Cure What Ails Ya". I was blown away! Overall, it is mine & my husband's second time here and we definitely want to keep coming back. The staff is very nice, ambiance is inviting. We haven't had food yet, but shared french fries with our drinks both times and this place definitely has good fries! So far, one of our favorite spots in the city! I feel bad that this place got a negative first review from someone who cannot construct a proper sentence. Seems very undeserving and not making much sense. Hopefully other patrons share my admiration for this spot and leave a positive review.

Yelp
Shockingly delicious food and drinks. The portions were a little bit smaller than expected, but everybody was absolutely delicious. The staff was extremely helpful, the venue was very cosy and cute but it's definitely a lot more casual than dressy. Prices are reasonable but because the portions are smaller, things start to add up quickly. I still absolutely recommend, study the menu before you come! It's good for groups, a friend or two, or even a date!

Yelp
I love the coziness of a booth and there's 3 upfront in the bar area. I also noticed a small private dining room which I'd enjoy for a group! The menus had several tempting choices but I chose the barramundi and seasonal vegetables. This was truly the best version of the dish that I'd ever had! I wish I'd had a bit of bread to get the last drops of a buttery grain mustard sauce that is truly better than mine and mine is amazing! The ambience was enhanced by the rocking playlist of music from my teen years which was a welcome treat. Waitstaff was entertaining...I was told the same chef operates next door so I will be back!

Yelp
Came here for restaurant week and not sure if they were short staffed or what? The service was remarkably slow and it didn't seem too busy. It took about 45 mins to get our appetizers served. I got the French onion soup and I actually enjoyed it--but it was a little too sweet for my partner. I also got the steak frites and it was the toughest cut of meat I've ever had. You REALLY had to chew on it and I ordered it medium. The dessert was alright, but I don't know if I could wait over 2 hours to finish a meal here.

Maria R.

Yelp
We went for restaurant week and it was immediately apparent that they were extremely understaffed when there wasn't a hostess so greet us. We waited almost 20 minutes to be seated when we made a reservation. After we were sat, it was very clear the entire restaurant waited hours for their meals or checks. Drinks were ordered and we opted to leave after hearing other guests around us experience. The whole ordeal from waiting to be sat and ordering drinks were an hour. Giving it 2 stars since it was clear the waitress was doing her best given the circumstance.

Samuel S.

Yelp
This is one of the poorest meals I have had in Philadelphia. The onion soup is so sweet that no amount of salt could cut the sugar in the soup. It was inedible. Conversely, the fries are overly salted and gritty from the salt. As my friend was sliding out of the booth, her leg was punctured by a nail that was sticking out of the wood. She is now at the ER waiting for a tetanus shot at 9:30 at night. The woman who served us was certainly nice, but we would not return or recommend. Go across the street to Caribou Cafe for a better meal.

Yelp
Took a client here for a burger and fries. Service was ok but they had 3 tables in the restaurant and I took a solid 20 min for drinks, when we had beer. Food was ok, I had a burger and French onion soup, not bad but it's not a place I'd say ohh I have to come back. Even with the good reviews, it was just ok

Yelp
Went with two friends the other night and had a great time. Sorry for no pics, but everything we had was fantastic. I had an Old Fashioned and it was delicious. One friend had the Witch Hammer and loved it, the other had a vodka & tonic. All drinks were large size. We shared a few appetizers: French fries (huge yummy portion), Spicy Charred Broccoli (we cleaned the plate) and the Artisinal Cheese Plate (lots of variety). We ended by sharing the Olive Oil Lemon Cake with Blueberry Compote (scraped that plate too!) and I couldn't resist trying an Espresso martini. Glad I did, it was one of the best I've had. If you're a beer drinker, they had tons available on tap. For the portion sizes of the food we got, I thought the prices were reasonable.

Yelp
Lovely spot for lunch on Sunday. Burger was cooked perfectly and the wings were fat and juicy. Best Guinness around town.

Yelp
went there with my family on Easter food was not worth the price . onion soup tasted like it was made with canned broth, onions were not caramelized and it tasted overly sweet. got the pork sandwich as main course it was overly dry and no dipping sauce ( au jus) I took half my course home to my dog at least liked it . waiter was more that accommodating even gave two complimentary desserts but at that point I did not want a trifecta of disappointments so I do not even try it. try some place else!

Yelp
I love a Mano, Townsend and Oloroso so when I heard the same group opened The Hayes I had to check it out. My friends and I had the perfect leisurely lunch we wanted. Drink selection was great. I appreciated the diverse beer selection and interesting wine. My friend enjoyed a great mocktail. Another friend loved her cocktail. We sat in a booth but I definitely will come back to sit at the cozy bar. The star appetizer was the beet salad. Their French fries were some of the best I've had, thin and perfectly crispy. The aioli in the fried chicken sandwich had a nice kick. The tiramisu didn't rely on alcohol which was a refreshing change from most of the tiramisu offerings around. The owners came by and made sure we were enjoying everything. Since it just opened I'm sure they have some kinks but I didn't see any. I will definitely come back, I need to try the bone marrow and burger.

Yelp
Went here for lunch before a play with a friend. We waited for over an hour after placing our order for mussels and a hamburger. When our food finally came just as we were about to leave hungry to attend our play, my friend choked down a few bites of a very dry hamburger with very salty fries. Instead of mussels, I was served a pork sandwich which I couldn't eat because of a gluten allergy. We won't be back.
