Hot San Diego Restaurant Openings You May Have Missed, July 2025 | Eater San Diego

"Carlsbad — The Henry expanded to its second location in San Diego County, opening its doors in the Forum in Carlsbad on July 23. Open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., the restaurant spans 6,783 square feet with indoor tables, an expansive bar, and ample patio seating along the front and side. Must-try dishes include the spicy tuna and crispy rice, pretzel and provolone fondue, Korean prime skirt steak fried rice, and vegetarian-friendly harvest bowl. Carrying over from their sister restaurant, the Flower Child Scramble with grilled asparagus makes an appearance on the brunch menu. Pair the dishes with the popular Hank’s espresso martini or pineapple and Thai basil soda." - Helen I. Hwang

It was our first time visiting this restaurant and we went on a weekday. Honestly, it was surprisingly busy for the middle of the week, which is usually a good sign. Our waitress, Kelsey, was great, and we mostly went with her recommendations. Everything turned out excellent and we had a really good time. We ordered espresso martinis — the first round was perfect, and for the second round we asked for less syrup, which they handled well. The food was also excellent. Dessert was very tasty too, although it was a bit too sweet for my personal taste. Overall, a very enjoyable experience. We will definitely be back.

Here’s my report on The Henry - thanks again Mary for the suggestion! The Henry is in the Forum shopping center off El Camino Real. It’s been open for about 5 months and seems to be doing well. On a Thursday night, if you didn’t have a reservation, there was at least a 30 minute wait. Inside tables book up faster (at least in winter) but the outside area is under a tent and has heaters. Tables aren’t too close together and the background music was pleasant and not too loud. The servers are delightful and very attentive and we thought the food was good. We ordered the brussels sprouts and potsticker appetizers, and the salmon and harvest bowl entrees. The brussels sprouts were too salty (from the cheese I think), and the potstickers didn’t live up to our waitress’ high praise, but the entrees were both very delicious.

The Henry is great the food is amazing and the service is top tier, we were greeted warmly almost 3 times before we were seated. The servers are awesome and the wait is very minimal when we went during brunch. Its reasonably priced, they also have amazing drink selection. We will be back to try more of the menu.

“Henry” Series, Part 1 So by a show of hands, how many of you just knew that the launching of this series was inevitable? 🙋‍♂️ I’d often thought of how much I’d like to explore this narrative, but just hadn’t found the right opportunity to set it into motion. That all changed once I heard that “The Henry” was opening in North County San Diego. Although both breakfast and lunch options are available, it is while promoting the dinner experience that “The Henry” shines the brightest. When asked to capture why the nighttime ambiance feels so elevated two of our Review Team Members suggested that the true character of this space is only fully revealed by the warm lighting tones singularly reserved for the dinner patrons. These lighting differences create a slightly upscale, yet comfortably casual vibe. A place where your favorite pair of jeans seamlessly coexists with a designer martini. While settling in at your table I recommend an “Amalfi Spritz” or “Hank’s House Blonde” to accompany your “Umami Brussel Sprouts”, “Short Rib Potstickers”, and/or “Pretzels & Provolone Fondue.” When you get serious about entrees I’d recommend the “Scottish Salmon”, “Bolognese”, and/or “Korean Prime Skirt Steak.” You won’t want to end your night without including dessert and I’d recommend the “Warm Croissant Bread Pudding”, “Chocolate Fudge Pie”, and/or “Molten Butter Cake” (all of which pair nicely with a “Hank’s Espresso Martini”). If you happen to be navigating the dating scene there is an intimate lounge area near the bar that offers a genteel atmosphere and the acoustics lend themselves well to determining just where this is, or is not, heading. Reservations are strongly recommended and your dinner experience here will not be inexpensive. After careful consideration I am pleased to announce that although no formal association currently exists, “The Henry” has established itself as a worthy namesake. And that’s…Henry’s Take. #henryseries #thehenry

Google
The menu made me question, what are we getting at these prices? It's not your typical steak n potatoe, and pick a veggie. The dishes are somewhat minimal looking but oh my! what perfect combos of flavor and portions! We were pleasantly surprised.

This place was fantastic! We wanted to try a new place that served steak. The food was DELICIOUS. Service was outstanding. It is a la carte. The flavor was unique and tasty. I ordered the braised short rib.

From the moment we walked into Henry’s, the experience was exceptional. I have to start with Emma, the hostess an absolute sweetheart. Kind, warm, energetic, and so genuinely welcoming. Even with how busy it was, she handled everything with grace and made the space feel cozy and inviting. Some people get overwhelmed in busy moments; Emma the hostess does the opposite she elevates the entire experience. The customer service across the board was excellent. Every person we encountered from the hostess to our server to the staff bringing out dishes had great energy, attention to detail, and a true understanding of hospitality. That kind of consistency matters, and it really shows here. Now, the food We started with the truffle fries (fantastic) and the pressed yellowtail sushi, which was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully done. I meant to take photos, but everything was so good we dove right in always a good sign. We shared the Scottish salmon, and I can confidently say it’s one of the best salmon dishes I’ve ever had and I’m a serious salmon person. Perfectly cooked, incredible flavor, and the sweet potatoes alongside it were delicious. Every bite was thoughtful: flavors, textures, and presentation were all on point. I also had one of the holiday espresso cinnamon drinks, which was delicious and the little snowflake detail was such a cute touch. The vibe deserves its own moment: warm, cozy, energetic, and festive. Loved the Christmas aesthetic, the fun yet intimate bar area, and how versatile the space is. It works for a girls’ night, a casual hangout, or a cozy romantic dinner. This was just a light post-shopping stop, but it absolutely impressed us. Highly recommend amazing food, beautiful ambiance, and top-tier service. We’ll definitely be back. 🎄❤️

Google
Fox Restaurants has done it again!! We had the pleasure of participating in a grand opening dining experience at "The Henry". The food and service was WONDERFUL!! I ordered the braised short ribs, and it was tender and succulent. You can tell the meat would have gently fallen off the bone. The menu ranges from fresh seafood such as Sushi to Crab Cakes. The variety and designer touches of cocktails are on point. We ordered the olive oil cake for dessert, and it was a perfect ending to a perfect meal. The staff attended to our every needs and the food arrived promptly. Loved the experience.

Yelp
The Henry is a cute, upscale-ish dining experience with a small but decent menu. We went for Sunday brunch and waited about 20 minutes for a table, which isn't too bad for the area. This location is in The Forum shopping center, which has lots of similarly upscale-ish stores to pop into, but the parking lot can be annoying. (We don't necessarily struggle to find parking, it's just a lot packed into a small, weirdly configured place.) Nothing we tried blew us away, and we felt that the portion sizes were small for the amount we paid, but we all decided it was a nice enough place to maybe bring a friend visiting town, or to enjoy a meal with a bigger group. All in all we'll stick with our regular brunch spots (Don's Country Kitchen or Richard Walkers Pancake House), but it was nice to try something different.

Yelp
Plenty of parking. Good for groups. Ok for kids. Reservations recommended but not required. Great spot. Friendly staff, lots to pick from on the menu. Full bar.

Yelp
Had been so excited to try this place, went for brunch today and was very underwhelmed. First, the pros: -The decor and vibe were fun and cute, big patio with nice heaters. -Clean restrooms and clean restaurant -Friendly staff -Seems like the quality of the ingredients used were good Now, the cons: It took nearly 15 minutes to get our coffees (despite having a clear view of the baristas leaning against the counter chatting), and the hot one came out lukewarm at best. It had no foam on the top which, in our opinion should have made the waitress know not to serve it and it had been sitting. Had it remade. I asked for half caff on my iced one and realized after looking at the receipt she heard "half and half" so she added that and charged for it, so, apparently it was full caff. (Side note who charges for half and half on a coffee?) We had the Benedict which was ok, but the English muffin size was disproportionate to the rest of the dish. The onions that accompanied the potatoes were burnt and the hollandaise was fairly flavorless. The food itself was also not hot. Simple touches like serving on a hot plate could have made this better. We also had the burger. Also not hot. We ordered it medium. As you can see by the picture attached, this was not even close to medium. My boyfriend ate his half but I was so grossed out I couldn't touch it. I boxed it up to cook it more at home because at that point, after the coffee experience and mediocre food, I didn't want to bother to have it remade. Honestly, reading other reviews it seems like a lot of people have experienced being disappointed in the food for the price, and I completely agree. There were other minor things, crumbs on the share plate, plates that were all scratched up which doesn't seem to fit the standard they are trying to uphold, etc. Wanted to try this place for dinner but now, not so sure.

Yelp
Dined there for lunch today with a friend/co-worker. Fabulous food, great service and I love that they allow dogs outside. I made 2 new Friends, a weenie and a beautiful red golden retriever. Made my day! What a cool place. Highly recommend the Henry!

Yelp
We arrived on Monday around 5pm and there was no line at all. The place was quiet with a calm, pleasant atmosphere, and the service was excellent. The food overall was okay. The burger was disappointing the bun was dry and had a strong burnt taste. The Caesar salad was decent. The spicy tuna was almost good but the bottom was a bit dry and there was a little too much mayo. The cocktails were tasty, and parking is easy with plenty of space. I personally wouldn't come back because I prefer a place where most dishes are truly delicious, not the opposite.

Yelp
I used to go to the one in Coronado, but since they opened one by my house, why not go to this one too? This location has sushi and a bit more options in drinks. Been here a few times now and had an early birthday dinner here, where I was given a card and free champagne. It was very cool of them. I also had the option of picking out a dessert with a candle for my birthday. My kids love the sushi and crab cakes here. They also love the potatoes here: truffle fries, mashed potatoes, and sweet potatoes were all delicious. I loved the crab cakes, the tuna crudo, and the roasted chicken. We've sat inside as well as outdoors and I don't think you can go wrong with either. They had the heat lamps on for outdoors and so it didn't feel like we were outdoors. This place will be a regular place we are coming to on a monthly basis.

Yelp
Went here for the first time since it opened. We were very curious, since it took the place of Panera (casual eatery with great seating and conversing, no waiter, stay as long as you want, go back for more etc). I was a bit disappointed that it was a couple levels higher as a restaurant, has a wait for seating if you go at a popular time and is a LOT pricier. Service: The wait staff is super helpful, knowledgeable and hyped up. They suggest items and encourage you to try as much as possible. Our waiter explained that they (wait staff) were all highly trained and that the cook is NO NONSENSE. Which I love. Food: That being said, our food was very good. I got the Roasted Chicken and Avocado Salad, which was wonderful. Fresh and crispy with house made croutons and wonderfully colorful. I'd get it again ... but a bit expensive. My hubby ordered the All American Burger. It was a great burger ... but nothing extra special (in his words). Meh. Again, a bit expensive. Drink: I ordered a diet Coke, which was hardly bubbly - quite dead in fact. I told the waiter, who apologized and asked if I wanted another. Of course I said, 'no', pouring another one isn't going to change their proportions. I hate this. When I get a diet soda, I want it lively! Well, he brought me a specialty drink as an apology, the Honeydew Highball (non alcoholic). I appreciated that, it was great wonderful - except it wasn't sugar-free, of course. Oh well, it was a nice gesture, and I appreciated that. Dessert: We tried the Molten Butter Cake because it was highlighted on the menu and we wanted to try their 'signature' dessert. The waiter raved about it. When it came to the table, the waitress poured warm caramel over the vanilla gelato. Impressive! The gelato and carmel were amazing, but when it came to the cake, it was so-so. Not like our favorite warm butter cake at another favorite restaurant. At all. I won't get it again. The small bar was lively - we sat near it. The atmosphere was fun, clean and comfortable. Overall, it was a nice place for maybe a couple times a year. We wish it was more of a neighborhood restaurant where you can bring your kids once every couple weeks. It's not real kid-friendly in our opinion. There you have it. Try it once .... you'll like it, then you decide for yourself. In our opinion, we may go back again within the next year, but we're not rushing back. I just wish it was a bit more family and wallet friendly.

Beautiful decor. Amazing experience and food! Truffle fries, Scottish Salmon, Crispy Sushi Roll, Side of Rice, Lemon Cake w vanilla ice cream. 10/10 for everything!

Yelp
I've been to this place for brunch twice now and both times it was a good experience. Located in a strip mall at the Forum, this location is where Panera used to be. Both times I've been here, it was for brunch on a Saturday between 10-10:45am. We've never had to wait to be seated for our party of 2. There's plenty of seating both outdoor and indoor. The employees are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in answering questions about the food items. We ordered 2 of their coffee drinks which were absolutely delicious, and the Ham & Cheese quiche and the Roasted Turkey French Dip. The quiche was good but a bit saltier than I'd prefer, but the French Dip was great. During our meal, what looks like a manager came around, and asked how everything was, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, we had run out of water mid-meal which was never refilled because our server didn't come by until we were already finished and our check was given. So we left a bit parched. Overall, it's a place worth checking out. Looking forward to trying their other menu items.

Yelp
What used to be a Panera really turned into a nice upscale restaurant nestled in the Forum. There's tons of outdoor seating, a bar and ample seating inside. Service is really good - will explain later. Food selection is a a little random - sushi, pasta, burgers, steaks and salads. So, if you've got picky eaters or dietary restrictions, you should be able to find something. We ordered the rigatoni based on the volume of pics we saw on yelp and the Korean steak. I ordered medium, but the steak came out med-rare which is still fine. The rice and veggies were spectacular, and the steak melted in my mouth and was ample in size. Overall, this was 5/5. The rigatoni on the other hand had overcooked pasta and a really runny sauce - not what we expected. It felt rushed or the timing wasn't down just yet. 2/5. One of the managers came by and we let her know so they comped a free dessert (butter cake is superb) so that was kind of them. We'll be back in a bit to try it again, once things settle.

Yelp
Oh my sweet potato. This was the spot that the forum needed to add. There aren't a many good food options in this area, but there are plenty of good shopping. First off the ambience is perfect. Modern but cozy. Trust me when I say it's a vibe here. It's definitely going to be or already has become the local watering hole for this neighborhood. The Henry really executed on all fronts. The staff has been so great and has been so helpful every time I've done here. I've come to work in the mornings at their coffee bar. I've come for lunch with girlfriends. I've come for dinner during date night. And I've also ended a night of debauchery here after dinner at Casa! My favorite food items have been the Japanese sweet potatoes, ahi salad, and Brussels sprouts. I'm looking forward to trying more here. Truly, a job well done of a great addition to the neighborhood.

Yelp
Big improvement from the prior Panera Bread at this location, fresh remodel new larger booths.

Yelp
This is a really nice restaurant and lighting is so beautiful at night inside. It feels intimate. They are nice and friendly and make you feel welcome. We ordered a Rigatoni and short rib and a shrimp Caesar. The kids enjoyed their pasta and we chose to eat light as we will be flying tomorrow. The short rib was delicious as was the shrimp Caesar. They also have a nice wine selection and sushi and many delicious desserts. I'm definitely a bread pudding fan so I will be back to try it.

Yelp
We stopped by this morning. For a Sunday morning, it wasn't overly packed yet. It worked out perfectly as we had our dog with us. The staff were all very welcoming and pleasant. There were plenty of tables inside and outside. There's a certain beauty and warmth about this restaurant. We ordered... Latte Pumpkin Hot Latte Vanilla Hot Huevos Rancheros Bagel with locks (with potatoes) This had to be the best Pumpkin anything I've ever had. My husband enjoyed his Latte as well. Everything was perfectly prepared with fresh ingredients. I wish I remembered our server's name. She was very welcoming, professional, attentive and lovely. Restrooms were clean (male and female) I love this place and will be coming regularly. Looking forward to coming for lunch and dinner over time.

Yelp
I knew The Henry from Coronado Island and even if this location does not look like a day in Paris like the islander version does to me...this still was a nice surprise. I went there just for coffee this time as I needed to teach a class from my phone and I was able to do it from the table outside which was very nice. The hostess was so beautiful looked like a model and was very friendly and accommodating explaining where the coffee shop area was and that the patio was for reservations only. I will try another day their food. The only ackward impression is that there are many young people working there and they were chatting non stop among themselves but apparently idle. I am in favor of a good laugh but from the perspective of a consumer look strange that people seem to be hanging out and not checking on people instead if they are not busy. Just a suggestion.

Yelp
Yum! I've driven past this new restaurant in the Forum a couple of times recently and was glad to finally give it a try. Very inviting space, wide menu, and friendly staff. We came with a large group and ordered the Brussels sprouts, short rib potstickers (probably my favorite), and spicy tuna & crispy rice to start - And honestly all were 10/10. For my main course, I ordered the filet and again, very much enjoyed the meal. The molten butter cake dessert was also a MUST try. Our server, Jackson, was also particularly excellent. Friendly, efficient, and attentive. He did a great job with our larger party of 10. Overall, it's a great space with both indoor and outdoor dining options, a solid menu that fits everyone's taste, and an awesome location with easy parking. Will return!

Yelp
The Henry, a neighborhood restaurant located in The Forum Carlsbad. First impression - very cool, upbeat-casual atmosphere but could also make a very nice date night. Plenty of parking even ADA in a private lot. There were six of us and we had reservations and sat inside. They also have ample seating in their patio area. We ordered the Umami Brussels Sprouts and Spicy Tuna & Crispy Rice appetizers to share. The sprouts were amazing! Nicely charred, crispy and had great flavor. Lived up to its name. Spicy tuna was spicy but nothing too special about it. I did appreciate the chopsticks! I ordered the California Bowl and was surprised to find they had many gluten-free options available. I made sure to mention my wheat allergy to our server, Emily, who accommodated my request. My friends all ordered salads; Sprouts and Squash with Scottish Salmon and Prime Skirt Steak. Both said the salmon was salty. The Roasted Chicken Avocado won the taste test! The ending to our brunch was the Molten Butter Cake and Chocolate Fudge Pie. Although I didn't get to taste the butter cake everyone said it was amazing and even got one to-go! I tried the chocolate fudge pie filling with Chantilly cream and it was super decadent and rich. The peanut butter crunch was at the bottom of the chocolate mousse layer and came as a surprise! Overall, a great choice for our gathering. Definitely would go back when in the area.

Yelp
Cool atmosphere where Panera used to be. Made reservations as it can get crowded but a Wednesday night recently wasn't packed and could have done without reservations. Sat inside because the outdoor dining area is all enclosed and looked close and stuffy. Our server Noah was great. Drinks took a little while to come- bar was slow I guess? Excellent old fashioned and the NA pineapple Thai basil drink was absolutely delicious! Menu was very diverse and sounded good but more misses than hits. The short rib potstickers were very salty but also very heavy because of the grease content. What ruined it though was the texture of the meat. Instead of shredded rib meat, it was processed and was the texture of baby food. Drowning in sauce which should have just been on the side. Thumbs down there. Tuna with crispy rice- rice was perfect and good portion size but....the tuna was macerated in a very mayo heavy sauce. Felt more like mayo with crispy rice. Miss here. The crab cake, however, was excellent. All meat and not loaded with breadcrumbs or veg. Good taste. I loved the remoulade sauce with it but others said they'd prefer a cocktail type sauce. But this was a definite yes. Prices are a little steep but everything seems to be up for restaurants. Next time I will try their burgers and salad options.

Yelp
The newest restaurant in North County is great and a must visit. Making a reservation is definitely the move--otherwise the wait can be kinda long at times. This time, we sat on the patio outside for brunch. It was very cute, cool temperature and not crowded. Our servers were attentive, personable and kind (especially with our meal substitution requests). The cinnamon french toast was perfect to share, the egg scramble was simple and tasty, and the coffee drinks were really yummy. The portions were exactly right too. Will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
If this place continues with its great food and personable service, it's going to put everyone else out of business. This is EXACTLY what this side of town needed. We got a table against the wall and it was easy to talk to each other. We even made friends with the tables next to us, very chill crowd. My only criticism--and please take this with peace and love--is to train the hosts a bit when it comes to greeting patrons. Every time we come in, they lay it on so thick that it comes off uncomfortably fake. We were actually relieved when the server approached us with a more genuine tone.
google avatar

Yelp
It is really nice to have this place in La Costa. The ambiance is great with an open concept. We sat outside and were very comfortable temperature wise with all the heaters. The service was very good as well. Now to the food. We ordered the Brussels sprouts, the pretzel fondue, and the short rib potstickers. The Brussels sprouts were delicious (some of the best I've had!), the pretzel bites were huge so were great for sharing. The potstickers were hyped up but were just okay. They were a bit chewy so could have just been off that night. Overall this is a great place to go on a girls night, date night, any night. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Met friends for brunch on a recent Saturday morning. We all had The Rocket coffee, very delicious, but extremely small for $6. The barista topped each with cute ghosts. The service was stellar throughout. Two of us had the Roasted Turkey French Dip. It was very good and pretty big. Fries were a little wimpy though. The other friend had Eggs Benedict which came with potatoes and greens. We all agreed we'd come back. I had joined their e-bites club the day before we came, looking at the small print to make sure we could use the $10 off. I guess the offer had only been for online pickup orders, so they asked to see the email since they hadn't seen the offer I received. They were very nice about it, apologizing saying they needed to figure out how to ring it up and that they'd check with corporate to get the information for others that may bring it in.

Yelp
Food: fabulous, fresh, organic and just the perfect amount. Appetizer of the crispy rice with ahi tuna chef's kiss, vegetable scramble, green salad and California bowl were perfect brunch. Cocktails en pointe with crisp and bright flavors. Service: great young lady who asked if we had been there before and went through her favorite recommendations. Asked us what we liked and went from there. Very attentive. Ambiance: true San Diego atmosphere. Beautiful covered outdoor seating that flowed into the restaurant. Bright greenery with pops of pink and red flowers. Perfect social picture taking and great choice for our 28th anniversary brunch.

Yelp
We had our first visit in late September 2025 and were excited to try after hearing good things and seeing the crowds. We came with another couple and wanted to try a few things on the menu. The pretzel balls with cheese are a great appetizer to share. The salads are fresh and hearty. The standard all American burger was thick and as expected (good meat quality) and fries were good. The place is bright and open (can't believe this was the old Panera - good job on the remodel). I would come back to visit Henry again

Yelp
So glad The Henry opened a location in Carlsbad. The service and staff are amazing. We went for brunch. I tried my first ever Bloody Mary. They had a few different choices. I got the one with the stuffed olives and bacon. I don't even like olives but these were delicious. I also got the avocado toast and potatoes and my family got the cinnamon French toast and the egg sandwich. We all really enjoyed our food. After we ate, one of the managers heard us talking about the spicey tuna and crispy rice and whether we should have gotten that. So our waiter comes over and says that they are providing it to us on the house!!! We didn't even know the manager heard us talking. And what customer service for the restaurant to do that!! We were so surprised and happy. I have to give a shout out to the best waiter ever Bryce. He explained everything to us with such patience and grace even when we asked the same question a couple of times. If he didn't know the answer to something he always checked or double confirmed before giving us incorrect information. He even said how The Henry wants to make sure we enjoy our food and if we were not happy with something they would make it right. Well we were happy with everything! Everyone is nice and friendly and knows how to take care of their customers. Thank you The Henry and thank you Bryce for making such an enjoyable experience for us.

Yelp
The Henry has elevated South Carlsbad! This sophisticated modern inspired Ralph Lauren is imperative in the details. I appreciate the attention to details and the hospitality of the front of the house and the servers. From the server uniforms of the forest green collared shirt to the dark washed denim jean, the attention to details went down to the silver spoon tie clip. I love to evaluate the uniformity because it is just as important to me as the quality of the food. I know that appearance and perception is important to the company. I ordered the Beverly Hills Club with fries and Roasted Chicken Avocado Salad. Both dish tasted delicious and filling. The Henry is here to stay in Carlsbad. It is a fan favorite.

Yelp
I went with my friend and his wife to celebrate his birthday, and it was all of our first time here. From the moment we walked in, the staff -- every single one of them -- was professional, friendly, and exceptional. The space has a modern, hip feel -- classy without being pretentious or over the top. It's a perfect balance with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. I ordered an Old Fashioned and the Korean Prime Skirt Steak. The Old Fashioned was exactly what I wanted -- smooth and well-balanced. The steak? Phenomenal. Perfectly cooked, full of flavor, easily one of the best I've had in a while. My friends ordered the Harvest Bowl and the Eggs Benedict, along with mimosas, an Espresso Martini, The Way of Tea, and an Amalfi Spritz. Everything was finished down to the last bite and drop -- so good they ordered another round of drinks. We shared the Short Rib Potstickers to start -- very, very good. For dessert, we had the Lemon Olive Oil Cake. Now, I'm a dessert guy, but I have to pace myself because if something's too good, I'll end up binging sugar the rest of the day. This cake was dangerously delicious. I had to stop after one bite just so I wouldn't order every dessert on the menu. I'm already excited to be coming back next Sunday with a different group, and this place is officially on my "go-to" list. I'll be here many more times. Lastly, I can't end this review without mentioning our server, Kyra. I go out to eat at least four times a month, and for me, great service and connecting with people is part of the joy. Kyra was fantastic -- warm, engaging, and genuinely part of our fun. She elevated the whole experience, and we truly appreciated her and The Henry. Thanks again -- see you soon!

Yelp
I'm so happy we have a Henry in North County!! I first discovered The Henry when I visited their Coronado location. Hubby and me had a dinner date here in their new Carlsbad location. We brought our furbaby with us too. Highly recommend booking reservations, this place gets busy, and for good reason, the food is just as delicious as their Coronado location. The staff is super nice too. For our meal: Scottish Salmon 10/10. Loved the tender salmon and the Japanese sweet potatoes. Flavor is super tasty and nicely cooked. I loved the crust of the salmon. My husband got the Braised Short Rib with Smashed Potatoes. I had a couple bites of his and it was delicious. 10/10. He said he wasn't super hungry, but he ate it all. Dessert: The staff were super friendly and recommended the Olive Lemon Cake medley. We devoured that. Soo good! 10/10!! They offer many drink options, from Matcha & Coffee Lattes, Beers, and Mixed Drinks. Their Matcha Latte was delicious and my husband enjoyed his Coor's. There's something for everyone at The Henry and if you're uncertain of what to pick, the staff are super friendly and will guide you through their menu. Come visit ! You won't be disappointed and while you're at it shop at The Forum!

Yelp
Celebrated a couple July birthdays with friends at The Henry (Carlsbad location). Definitely a place that's "happening" as there was a constant crowd going in and out during our three hour visit. Friendly service from start to finish, delicious food and cool vibe makes this a place to visit. For dinner, started off with the Short Rib Potstickers and Pressed Yellowtail Roll. Both delish!!! For dinner, I had the Rainbow Roll while Shelly tried the All-American Burger. Both entrées filling, tasty and we would order again. Washed down with Super HI-5 cocktail & Pineapple & Thai Basil Soda. Again, both were amazing. Finally, since we were celebrating two birthdays we all shared the Warm Croissant Bread Pudding as well as the Lemon Olive Oil Cake. Scrumptious is not even the right word...but I think you get the idea. Bottom line, if you get the opportunity to go, then go. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
My friends threw me a surprise birthday dinner here. It was my first time at this location that recently opened. It's in the Carlsbad Forum. They have a large parking lot. They also have indoor and outdoor seating. Restaurant is cute and clean. We started with a cocktail and Parmesan Truffle Fries. I ordered the passion fruit sangria. It was refreshing and delicious. The fries were also delicious. It came with ketchup and an aioli dipping sauce. We also ordered dijon mustard to go with it. I had the Rigatoni Alla Vodka for my main dish. I loved it. The noodles were cooked perfectly and I like the bread crumbs it came with. I tried my friend's Harvest Bowl and Pressed Yellowtail Sushi. Both were also delicious. We had a great server. He was friendly and attentive. He also brought me a complimentary birthday dessert with a candle and there was a birthday card from the restaurant waiting for me when we arrived. Thanks to my wonderful friends and The Henry for a fantastic birthday dinner experience!

Yelp
Had the pleasure of dining during the soft opening of The Henry in Carlsbad. This space took over where local neighborhood favorite, Panera, used to be in the Forum. Newly designed and upgraded space leads to a whole new dining experience here. During breakfast hours, the set up was "fast casual". Order at the coffee bar, have a seat and your order would be brought out to your table. Not sure if that type of service will continue after their grand opening, but totally worked for us. We sat on the patio. This unique space used to be parking to the immediate side of what was Panera. A nice awning covered the patio which was accented by planters with flowers. Sun shades could be lowered or raised depending on the weather/ lighting and heat lamps were also available. For our meal, Julie ordered the Flower Child Scramble, which had grilled asparagus, roasted mushrooms and Parmesan Cheese among other flavors. I enjoyed the California Bowl. My bowl turned up a little on the salty side. It appeared to have some salt sprinkled all over my plate. We also enjoyed the Greens and Protein Smoothie and an iced mocha. We shared a lemon raspberry pound cake. All were flavorful and tasty. Service was solid. The team rotated throughout our meal as they were still training to get ready for their official opening the following week. Each person was attentive but not overbearing. Will definitely be back to try some other breakfast options or dinner! Keep on Yelp'n!

Yelp
Ran across this restaurant after a meeting in Carlsbad and was pleasantly surprised. We arrived around noon, and it was busy--definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time. The wait was about an hour, but we lucked out and snagged a spot at the bar. Right off the bat, the service stood out--the server thoughtfully asked if we had any food allergies, which I really appreciated. We started with the guacamole, which had a flavorful twist thanks to roasted poblano peppers. For our mains, we tried the sushi and the squash salad--both were fresh, creative, and absolutely delicious. The space itself is beautiful, with a modern but warm vibe that makes you want to stay a while. I'm already looking forward to coming back for dinner.

Yelp
My friend and I came here for brunch, and it was our first time trying this place. The interior is beautiful, and the outdoor seating area is just as inviting. It was packed, so I was glad I made a reservation--there was about an hour wait for walk-ins. The hosts and servers were warm, friendly, and provided excellent service from start to finish. We ordered breakfast, and everything was delicious. We loved our entire experience and will definitely be coming back to try their lunch and dinner menus. I highly recommend this spot--it's truly a neighborhood gem.

Yelp
From the moment you step through the doors at The Henry, you're greeted with warmth and elegance. The ambience strikes a perfect balance; refined yet cozy, making it an ideal place for both casual meals and special occasions. Every member of the staff, from the hosts at the door to the food service attendants, is exceptionally courteous and attentive, ensuring a welcoming experience throughout. The food quality is consistently excellent, made with fresh, high-quality ingredients that highlight the care put into every dish. Whether it's breakfast, brunch, or dinner, each plate feels thoughtfully crafted and beautifully presented. The Henry has quickly become one of our favorite restaurants to visit not only for its wonderful food, but also for the inviting atmosphere and impeccable service.

Yelp
Normally I do not try restaurants until at least a year after they have opened to give them time to work out the kinks, but I couldn't wait! Love love love The Henry! They did a fantastic job with the decor, such a cozy and chic vibe. The service was excellent from start to finish, drinks and food did not disappoint! The brussel sprouts, crab cakes, Scottish salmon, and harvest bowl were all amazing!

Yelp
2nd review......The Henry has become our go to spot in Carlsbad. The staff, the quality of food and ambiance is super!! Came for brunch today for the first time after eating lunch here many times. Absolutely delicious! We tried the Ham & Cheese Quiche and the Huevos Rancheros Enchiladas .....both delicious!! The XV coffees were spot on too! Cindy was amazing as always, just love her positive happy energy, as was everyone else. Such a welcoming and fun place, and staff they never disappoint. Thank you for making my friends birthday special!

Yelp
It was good. I don't think I can give it a "great" or "earth shattering". We went for a work lunch and it was what you'd expect, in my opinion, influencery and very trendy. The drinks were okay, my boss and I both got a spritz and mine was a bit watered down, she enjoyed her Amalfi one. The chicken frites was alright, a little on the saltier side but I'd rather over than under seasoned. I will give points for the moist meat and the truffle aioli but it definitely needed more. I think if I were to come back for dinner maybe the experience would be different but over all, just cool. Nothing crazy.

Yelp
The Henry absolutely crushed it. The food was on another level -- fresh, flavorful, and executed perfectly. Every plate came out looking like they actually cared, and it tasted even better. Service was sharp, attentive, and on point from start to finish. No wasted motion, no confusion, just smooth hospitality. Hands down one of the best dining experiences I've had in Carlsbad. Five stars without hesitation. Will be back.

Yelp
The Henry is a vibe. I had a mom's night out and the seasonal sangria was EVERYTHING! Highly recommend if it's available. The only reason why I knocked a star off is bc the spicy tuna on crispy rice wasn't very good. I wouldn't order that again. But the tuna crude was fresh, delicious and light. One of the moms I was with ordered the pressed yellowtail and that was unbelievable. I will be ordering that next time!

Yelp
The Henry is a really beautiful restaurant that has replaced the Panera Bread in the forum. We came here for dinner on a Wednesday while waiting for some apple store transfers and we were able to get seated in 15 minutes. The servers were kind and we appreciated being checked on many times. We ordered the vodka rigatoni, the bolognese, and the brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were definitely the star of the show - delicious Parmesan and sweet miso/soy flavor. I enjoyed the vodka pasta, however I found a giant piece of plastic in the sauce. Mistakes happen and they quickly remade the dish for me - it was no big deal. I was a bit hesitant to continue eating it though. Overall, it was a really great restaurant and I would come back for those brussel sprouts!

Yelp
We were excited to try this spot--something new, outside the Village, and with decent word of mouth. I'd walked by the Coronado location but hadn't eaten there (our teen daughter had and liked it). Executive summary: Really disappointed. We won't be back. There is much better food and service in North County, and this feels like a restaurant for people who either don't care or don't know better. We had 6:30 reservations for a party of four, but our table wasn't ready - and it was cold outside. We waited about 15 minutes. I wasn't expecting Herb & Sea-level hospitality (they handed us champagne during a delay), but even a simple "so sorry" would have helped. The front-of-house team seemed very young and inexperienced. Once seated, our server took drink orders, but the drinks took forever - just a beer and a few cocktails - and the patio was empty because of the cold. It seemed like the bar was understaffed. Our server was kind, but clearly overwhelmed. We ordered pretzels and cheese. The pretzels arrived cold -intentionally, apparently? I can't imagine why. Every other gastropub in North County serves warm pretzels, and these were not dive-bar prices. The cheese was good, but overall it wasn't. We had a gift card, so we stayed and ordered entrées: burger, short rib, bolognese, and salmon. Nothing was bad, but most dishes weren't warm. The burger was actually fine - Hennessey's-level - but the fries were cold and soggy. Food took a long time and came out as 2 plates, then 2 more a few minutes later. The short ribs were cold. The salmon bowl was at least warm. The bolognese was the only dish everyone agreed was good. It took a long time to get another round of drinks. Finally, we ordered dessert. The server recommended the chocolate cake, but came back to say they were out. We tried the butter cake instead. Locals know there's a fantastic butter cake in the Village, so expectations were high - but this wasn't even close. It was dry and tasted more like angel food cake. To their credit, they comped it. Even the espresso martinis were weird - orangey and full of ice. The whole night took about three hours, and while the pricing would be fine if the experience delivered, it just didn't. This was easily the worst meal we've had in the area in years. I genuinely don't understand the positive reviews. There are many great restaurants in Carlsbad and Oceanside - this just isn't one of them. Also, at a place like this, I expect a manager to stop by the table (we had a gift card as so met her at the end). She never came by, which explains a lot about the overall lack of oversight. We really wanted to like this place - North County needs more restaurants like this. But I can't recommend it. Maybe grab a cocktail at the bar, but skip the food. There are much better versions of this concept in Carlsbad and Oceanside.

Yelp
This new restaurant is very good. The cost is higher but you get large portions and higher end food options. We were a party of 10 and they sat us right on time. Even though it was very busy there was no delay in service or getting our food. The server was great. It's a beautiful place has a full large bar you can also sit at. Bathrooms were very clean. I had the vegetarian option of smashed potatoes and cucumber sushi rolls which were very good. Everyone else had a variety and they all had great raving reviews about all the food and cocktails. Make sure to call for a reservation to avoid the wait. Enjoy!!

Yelp
Really good burger after a long travel day to SD. The orange matcha latte was super impressive. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Cute interior decor, also a big outdoor patio, and a bar. A little pricey but it's a nice place.

Yelp
The Henry in Carlsbad is newly opened summer 2025. It ambience is lively, black and white decor, and lots of staff. We got to sit on the covered patio which is private. I felt like I was in a high end club for breakfast. The server Bryce was enthusiastic about the menu, offering his opinion on what to order, which I appreciated. And our server was attentive the whole time we were there. The hostess brought water for my dog, too. So nice. We tried the Eggs Benedict and the Quice. We also ordered fresh squeezed orange juice. The OJ was outstanding, one of my top restaurant experiences for fresh squeezed orange juice. It is a MUST ORDER! A++. It made me want to come back. The Eggs Benedict has in house made english muffins, carefully poached eggs, sous vide style. They also make their own hollandaise sauce. So it is good. The English muffins are thicker than store bought. So I guess it is a matter of preference. I thought he hollandaise sauce needed more lemon and salt, but that is how I make it at home. The potatoes they served with it, and the salad were excellent. The Ham and Cheese Quiche is excellent. Awesome crust, flavorful eggs/cheese/ham mixture. It is a real winner. Order it. It doesn't disappoint. The Henry is a great example of a restaurant that wants you to have a great experience and they make the effort. The place filled up by the time we left. We will be back!

Yelp
We had an incredible experience at the Henry! We put our name on the list for a table and sat to begin our lunch at the outside bar. Our server, Dorian, was so warm and helpful. We had the tuna chop salad and the squash and sprouts salad, and both were flavorful and fresh. By this time, we noticed that several parties at the outside bar, who had arrived after us, were escorted by hostesses to sit indoors. We mentioned this to Dorian, and he brought the manager, Arthur, over to speak with us. Arthur immediately sent a hostess over to seat us indoors, and we continued our meal with coffees and lemon cake inside. We definitely appreciated that we were listened to! But even with the exemplary service thus far, we were completely taken by surprise when our server told us that Arthur had taken care of our entire bill! Wow! We had never experienced that level of hospitality before. The staff at the Henry really knows how to make their guests feel valued! It was a memorable experience and we can't wait to come back, and bring our friends and families. Thank you Arthur, Dorian, and the rest of the staff!

Yelp
Just left lunch here, absolutely amazed a kitchen so large and an enormous amount of staff could possibly even provide this type of experience. Bar seating was fine, our server was the only good thing about the entire lunch. Ordered a crispy tuna appetizer, took literally 25-30 minutes to come out. For a lunch appetizer, that ticket time is ridiculous. Portion was skimpy at best, 2.5 small bites total per person. Since it was taking so long, we asked to please just have our entrees come out as soon as possible. We waited and waited and waited, I asked our server why the kitchen was dragging so badly? She agreed and went and spoke to a kitchen manager who was in the dining room. Another almost 30 minutes later and FINALLY 1 soup, and 1 salad came out. Almost over an hour ticket time for 1 salad and 1 soup. Soup was not hot, at all. By this time we were starving so just ate it. Salad came with the most sparse toppings you could ever imagine, a crumb (check out the pictures) of blue cheese and about 2 tiny crumbs of bacon. It was a lettuce salad basically for $20. What they did manage to include was a giant piece of soggy, gooey chicken skin (also pictured below) As someone who works in the industry, knowing as a manager that a guest has rightly complained, NO ONE came to check on us, stop by and see how we were enjoying or anything. Nearly $100 lunch, left us hungry, disappointed, and annoyed. Way too many great places to bother paying for skimpy food that takes an hour to arrive, at premium prices. Never again...

Yelp
The Henry is such a great addition to North County! We've been for lunch and dinner now and have had a great experience every time. The specialty coffees are delicious and smooth! Not too sweet, with a kick. We got the chicken and avocado salad and the hot honey chicken sandwich with slaw. The sandwhich was bomb and the slaw was amazingggg. The chicken on the salad was fresh and everything was well balanced, not heavy but filling. Loved the bacon! The kid's menu has great options, we tried the grilled cheese today and my son loved it. Thank you to our sweet server who was helpful and service was excellent!

Yelp
My family and I loved this place! We had a reservation at 7PM and weren't seated until around 7:20. I guess this could've been expected as the restaurant is still super new and definitely popping on a Saturday night! Our server, Karl, was fantastic. Super knowledgeable on the menu and very charismatic. We started off with the pretzel bites, which were great for their value, but we wish we had more of the cheese sauce. The tuna crispy rice was incredibly flavorful but super small for $20 For entrées, we shared the short rib, which was incredible. Falls apart in your mouth, you don't even need a knife. The rigatoni à la vodka was tasty, but probably wouldn't order again. I could say the same about the burger and fries as well. The molten butter cake for dessert was absolutely insane. If there's one thing you must order on this menu, it is this! The pretzel toffee mimics peanuts in the most delicious way, and it was the perfect way to end the night! Overall, I will definitely come back here and order the crispy rice, short rib, and butter cake again! And I can't wait to try out more menu items as well.
