On 8/28/2024 approx 7:15 PM myself + 1 sat at the bar at The Hideaway. Nothing unusual. It was a Wednesday, came after dinner for a whiskey. They have discounted whiskey on Wednesdays.
Of course, everyone else had been there for some time. Some perhaps since getting off work a few hours earlier while others on a first date, as was the couple we sat beside.
We ordered 2 smoked old fashions and proceeded to destress from a busy day at work and domestic duties.
Great and fun conversation with the couple next to us about cars, movies, and other establishments for great food, drinks and vibes. Have a blast!
However, at the conclusion of our first round of drinks, before my guest and I were even asked if we wanted a 2nd drink or a meal, we were approached and was told, "I am not serving you guys anymore."
Of course we asked, "Why?" very confused. But the only response we got was, "I'm not serving you guys anymore." We didn't argue or demand a manager at the time, it was busy in there. I though I could handle with a call, request a meeting, and resolve this issue. However, my calls have not been returned. Left several messages for Ashly, general manager. Also went on their website and filled out the contact me info with the same request for a call back to schedule a meeting. On one of my follow up calls I asked who else could I speak with and was offered the catering manager, but I declined. Giving Ashley yet another day or two to get back to me. Still nothing, as of today, 9/3/2024 (6 days later).
To everyone I have shared this story with, co-workers, friends, and peers, the first question they asked was...... "Was that person "white?" I cannot say how flabbergasted we were that were were essentially being kicked out, and for what we have no idea. I had zero questions. As you can see from my first review in 2017 I have been coming here since moving to the area. This is a place we frequent weekly. If we are not in the restaurant eating with our families, we are ordering The Hideaway on door dash. But that ended on 8/28 with the "I am not serving you guys anymore."
At any rate, it afforded us opportunity to visit another local spot where we went to enjoy a second drink, process the injustice, and got lots of empathy from Jessica (bartender at follow up spot) and the customers who all invited us into their "frequented spot." I was able to shake off the horrible experience, thanks to new neighbors, friends, and welcoming neighborhood bar.
Very disappointed in The Hideway and I am still open to that in-person meeting to resolve this issue.
Heartbroken over whiskey, but never again!
PS: I frequent all restaurants in this area and am on a first name basis with them all. I am just very shocked. How I was treated does not fit into the dining culture in the Odenton area.
