Hi Felicia: Staff Allege Bounced Paychecks and High Turnover Plagued Oakland Restaurant Ahead of Sudden Closure | Eater SF

"The team behind Lafayette’s Hideout Kitchen previously dabbled with a wine club during the pandemic, an experience that helped inform their new ventures such as the Library Social Club." - Dianne de Guzman

We had actually eaten at Horn BBQ prior to coming here but were so unimpressed that we searched out a second eatery and were pleasantly surprised to find the area where The Hideout Kitchen is located. What a lovely little area with multiple places tucked away in tree-lined streets with a nice ambiance. The restaurant is well designed with classy decor. There's a variety of seating styles to accommodate all preferences. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. We ordered the Aperoco Lush - DELICIOUS. Very reminiscent of a creamsicle slushy but potent enough to make a person very happy. 😊 Also ordered a Crimson Fog. The banana liquor wasn't prominent but it was a pretty pink color with a hint of floral essence (possibly from an herbal gin). It was very balanced and did not have a strong alcohol flavor. The fee foam was nearly non-existent but it's mainly for appearance, so it was ok. We ordered the fabulous Peach Panzanella salad. The combination of sweet peaches, salty tomatoes, brie cheese and croutons with olive oil and lemon was spot on. Excellent flavor combination. ❤️ We also ordered the buttered apple flatbread which was also delicious. The crust is nice and light yet crispy, the pesto is just enough to have presence, the brie cheese with the apple and onion is fabulous. We will definitely be coming back. We didn't have room for dessert sadly, but after looking at the photos it looks like breakfast might be the winner to try! Our experience made for a delightful evening, I just wish we had more room in our bellies! 🥰

My favorite brunch place hands down! Great food and vibes. Several vegetarian options as well. My fave is their mascaparone toast (it comes with a generous helping of cream and butter so be prepared lol) Staff agree friendly and welcoming. Can get busy during weekends and maybe a slight wait time as well. Plenty of parking nearby but it's metered.

We loved sitting outside on the patio! They accommodated our dog to sit outside with no wait, great service. They also split the bacon grilled cheese and soup for us :) didn't think the parmesan fries were worth it and the rice overcooked though.

We had a great experience at The Hideout Kitchen in Lafayette! I ordered the brisket panini and my guest had the chicken panini—both were absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. The sweet potato fries were perfectly crispy, and the dipping sauce tied everything together beautifully. The service was friendly, and the cozy atmosphere made it even better. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area!

Hmm…where to start… I’ll start by saying that I will definitely be coming back though my first visit was interesting. I went here with a small group for brunch. It started off with a weird interaction with the hostess. She wasn’t that friendly and also gave us wrong information and menus. For example, she gave a kids menu but let us know it was just used for coloring and that none of the items were available to order from that menu. She also gave us mixture of brunch and dinner menus. Our server then came to the table and let us know that the child at our table could definitely order from the kids menu and he quickly gave us all brunch menus. Our server was very friendly and very honest. He forgot one of our drinks and one of our sides and one of our entrees. He could have easily made up an excuse as to why those items didn’t come to the table, but he didn’t. Thank goodness too as half of us have worked in the food industry and knew that he just forgot to bring coffee and put our orders in to the computer for the kitchen. It happens…it was busy and he was apologetic. All is well that ends well, right? Now the food…YUM! All of us enjoyed our meals. And on top of that…we all agreed that everything that came to the table looked delicious. Presentation, taste and quantity was all a 10 out of 10. I would say that the food made up for the hostess and the forgetfulness of the server. That doesn’t always happen. The food is what will bring me back for another meal. As far as the ambience…we sat “outside”. Normally I don’t care to sit outside in the winter, but while we sat at our table, it was an enclosed patio with heat lamps. Sweet! They can open/roll up sides of the patio so it’s not completely enclosed…they did that as we were leaving. The only thing I didn’t care for was the amount of dogs I seemed to be surrounded by while I was there…dogs at almost every table around us…some barking and some shaking out their fur. So now that I know about the dog friendly patio, I will just request to sit inside in the future. Easy fix.

A very beautiful restaurant. Some nice 5 star dishes, but service could use a little work. I will start off by saying We really enjoyed some things and others ,well we were a little shocked by After a short chat with our server we decided on what we would enjoy that is on their seasonal menu. We started off our dining experience with marscoponi toast. The cheese was whipped light and fluffy... drizzled with honey, sprinkled w almond slices. This appetizer which was suggested by the server had us very excited for the rest of the menu. We were a bit surprised that she didn't come back to check to see if we enjoyed the first few bites of this, we really wanted to praise her for her suggestion. On another note, we had already committed to ordering our appetizer, second course, and entree and had requested them staggered as we like to enjoy each course separately... So when the appetizer and Caesar salad came at the same time it was a suprise but not too big of a deal...just kind of sad she didnt listen to our wishes. The salad was only ok. It was topped with pickled red onions and anchovies. The dressing itself was not very flavor forward. Nor the actual anchovies which was different. Normally anchovies are so strong you have to enjoy them in tiny bites....not these. The salad was a bit of a throw away we ate it because we were hungry but had our server checked in with us, we definitely would have said something about it. While waiting for our entrée to arrive we observed the hostess come into the dining area and drape herself over the top of booth next to us which had people seated directlybelow her...on a first date. She definitely looked bored unenthusiastic and it was super disconcerting to watch a staff member act like this in a fine dining establishment. We had lots of time to observe the restaurant in between courses and thought for being not so busy the staff were very inattentive. Our mains came and my husband's risotto with scallops was the winner. An amazing tasty risotto with perfectly cooked scallops. I enjoyed a lamb chimichurri with roasted vegetables and a scalloped potato. My potatoes however were a bit hard and crispy difficult to cut. I believe I may have received a corner piece and for lack of a better term they were a bit bland. The lamb was cooked nicely but the chimichurri sauce was not what I expected and have had before at other establishments. The roasted veggies were seasoned well and were very nice. Our server finally checked back in later only to try and upsell the desert menu. Sadly we were overly ready to leave at this point. Then the bill came with a nice hospitality fee of 3%. We are not a huge fan of up charges like this. I will say that it is printed on the menu but we did not see it until I looked it up later online. Personally we find it a super sneaky way to make your patrons pay for your employees healthcare or whatever they end up applying it to. Would we go back, probably not. The toast was amazing though.

Google
Overall, I liked this restaurant. My only comment is that their pulled pork silog is not seasoned enough. I saw a similar review about the lack of flavor. I ended up sprinkling more salt and pepper on the meat. I hope Hideout will see this comment and adjust the recipe. Please take this as a constructive criticism so you'll increase your repeat customers. 😊

Google
This place is in the cutest area to start! Amazing and fast service without being overbearing. The drinks are amazing and the food was delicious. I got the honey fried chicken. The chicken was slightly dry, but it was amazing crunchy breading, and the mashed potatoes that came with it were perfect. The service we received here was the best service I've experienced in quite some time. Everyone greeted us with a smile, and they worked as a team to take care of their guests. Highly recommend this restraunt.

Yelp
We had a reservation for a large party (11) and we were happy they could accommodate us. The server was excellent. She was very attentive and super friendly. Nice sized portions. A few of us were able to split dishes and were satisfied. We all enjoyed what we ordered. No complaints from Anyone in our party.

Yelp
4.5/5 Very good! Maybe if I keep thinking about returning it'll be a 5 Really yummy, casual but refined New American food - it's exciting that Hideout Kitchen has moved to this new location and it's a great addition to the plaza! There's ample indoor and outdoor seating (including amenities like TVs playing sports indoors near the bar, and heat lamps or fans to keep outdoors comfortable). Service is quick and friendly, and attentive all around. We found parking for a few dollars in the lot across the street but if you scrounge around the side streets and don't mind an after dinner walk some free parking may be available too. The menu is full of enticing dishes such as brussels sprout and flatbread appetizers, fresh market fish and lots of drinks. But we came for the new offer of a three course "Golden Hour" dinner for $39, M-W from 5-6pm and it's a great deal! There's a choice between two starter salads, five entrees, and two desserts and we found all the items we tried to be generously portioned and precisely made. Of note is the Honey Fried Chicken which is boneless!! and includes one piece of white meat and one of dark. The crispy exterior was delicious and flavorful, and pairing with velvety potatoes and tender kale was very enjoyable. The clam linguini was also full of fresh clams and had a complex sauce that could be great to dip bread in. My favorite item was the Basque Cheesecake for dessert which came with some berry sauce and fresh fruit - this managed to be dense and light at the same time, not too sweet but very tasty. It was a pleasant dinner enjoying the outdoor lighting, polite service, and food made with heart. We hope the Golden Hour stays around, maybe with seasonal menu changes for some exciting variety, as it makes a great date night.

Yelp
The food here was excellent! The dishes didn't come with rice by default, but when we asked for it, they kindly brought us some it was perfect. The drink I ordered was also amazing. One of the staff members was a Persian lady, and she took such great care of us super kind and attentive. The overall service was wonderful, and the place has a lovely, welcoming atmosphere. We really enjoyed our visit and are already planning to come back soon to try their brunch!

Yelp
Our food took...40 minutes. The salads here were very well made and the food was pretty good quality in general. Sweet potato fries and brussel sprouts were not bad either. But the wait and the parking (paid and they're so stingy with the timing) may not make this place worth. The vibes inside are very autumn-esque and cozy. Nice for brunch/lunch especially during this time of the year.

Yelp
I ate here at a nurse practitioner chapter meeting. Very good food. The honey fried chicken was fresh. Pairs great with the garlic mashed potatoes. Even had a small glass of red wine. Happy NP to the local nurse practitioners!

Yelp
I got the steak frites and the waitress asked how I would like it cooked to which I said medium rare. It came well done. All brown even when I cut into it with a couple random splotches of light pink. To the point I was wondering if they seared the slices individually instead of a whole steak. Honestly, I wouldn't have been too picky about it if the staff didn't go out of their way to ask me my preference. But if I explicitly said medium rare because they asked and it comes well done I am going to say something. They send over another steak and it is literally raw.. At this point I don't even think it's safe to eat. I don't understand how it goes from well done to raw. It seems kind of either incompetent or petty of the kitchen. Quite disappointing for one of the most expensive dishes on the menu. The waitress was exceptionally great though and was entirely understanding of the situation. She even offered to send it back a second time but no way was I going to do that.

Yelp
Food and service here is amazing. We enjoyed a great lunch here having the waffle sandwich with sweet potato fries and a grilled cheese panini with a tomato basil soup as well as the Parmesan fries (so good!). The guava sangria was perfectly refreshing. The restaurant is beautiful with a nice atmosphere We chose to sit outside it was nice and shaded with a nice breeze, service was great our server was extremely attentive and kind he made sure everyone was taken care of at all times. 10/10 we absolutely love this spot!

Yelp
Delicioso! I stopped by the (not-so-hidden) Hideout for a Saturday brunch after seeing plenty of interesting items on the menu and deciding to venture out. The space itself is pretty disconnected: there's one main area, an outdoor space, and another attached building they call "The Library" that we were initially offered. (I asked if there was seating outside and there was, so we opted to soak the sunshine up instead.) But the flavors are cohesive: I ordered the Astrid's Florentine Benedict and my friend ordered the Lafayette Salad and both were on point. The Astrid's Florentine features spinach, avocado, and tomato with egg and their signature citrus hollandaise sauce and the Lafayette salad had, well... everything. Crushed walnuts. Goat cheese. Rainbow beets. The works. Both were delicious and filling, and the outdoor seating was perfect on a sunny morning. I will say that we waited 40 minutes to be seated, so either come prepared to wait or... You know the rest. But it was more than worth it and I'm still down to seek more.

Yelp
Cute lunch spot in downtown Lafayette! We almost ate next door but realized it was a little too casual for what we wanted, and luckily The Hideout was right there. Perfect for a sit-down meal with nice vibes. The space is large and open, so it works well even for bigger groups. We sat indoors to avoid the outdoor wait. We ordered a mix of dishes: grilled chicken panini, smoked brisket panini, linguini & clams pasta, and steak salad. * Grilled Chicken Panini - Hearty and stacked with large pieces of chicken and plenty of lettuce. Came with sweet potato fries, which I thought were fine but a bit on the softer side (I usually prefer crispy). * Steak Salad - Refreshing with a generous mix of veggies (zucchini was a nice touch). The steak was cooked medium rare as ordered, though a few pieces were a little tough, maybe due to the cut. * Linguini & Clams - A great "palate break" from all the sandwiches. Light, zesty, and lemon-forward. Good portion of clams, though a few more would have really balanced the dish out. * Smoked Brisket Panini - Rich, flavorful, and packed with layers of brisket. A bit heavy toward the end but definitely satisfying and a great value if you're craving beef. Overall, The Hideout is a solid choice for a casual sit-down lunch in Lafayette. Good variety, generous portions, and a comfortable space to relax in.

Yelp
Came here for weekend brunch. I love the table seating outside. You can have dogs and it's so pleasant. As far as this experience, I don't love their weekend brunch menu. There's too many sweet options and dishes that aren't complete with a vegetable, protein, and starch. You have to choose between one or the other. Our waiter was also the least attentive man ever. He barely came by to check on us. Didn't give me a knife for my steak, took 10 minutes to come by after our food was delivered, and pre-added milk to our coffee when we requested it black. I feel like this is bare minimum. The sweet potato fries were delicious. The Brussel salad was a little dry. The sandwich with ham is good. Breakfast burrito is also good. Steak was decent but they coated it too heavily with butter that was not good.

Yelp
Cute spot in downtown Lafayette surrounded by a bunch of cafes--The Hideout has a nice mix of indoor and outdoor seating. More people were choosing to sit outside, and there was a wait, so we ended up indoors. Surprisingly, it was really popular and busy for a Monday lunch! Service was excellent. Our server checked in regularly and kept our water glasses topped off, which I really appreciated. Food did take a bit longer to arrive since they were bustling, but it was worth the wait. Steak Salad was phenomenal--perfectly cooked to medium-rare. I swapped the balsamic vinaigrette for their lemon vinaigrette since I'm not a balsamic fan, and it worked perfectly. Honestly, I wish more places offered a steak salad this good. The Linguini and Clams was solid and came with a generous amount of clams, but it didn't really wow me. The Roasted Chicken Panini with sweet potato fries was delicious! The basil aioli really brought the sandwich together--such a great flavor combo. If you love brisket and BBQ, don't sleep on the Smoked Brisket Panini. It was loaded with multiple cuts of brisket and packed a punch. Overall, their paninis are definitely worth sharing. I love that the portions here are great for family-style dining--you can try a bit of everything without feeling stuffed. Definitely coming back to try more! (but sadly I'm from Southern CA)

Yelp
It's super cute and aesthetic here - I loved the decor and vibe of the place. Service was super quick, but maybe a bit too quick. We were getting together for a girls brunch and wanted to catch up but at times, I personally felt like we were be rushed out.. who knows, maybe they just like to frequently check in on you. The food was great! I was super excited to try the garlic rice and pork silog, which exceeded my expectations - the garlic rice wasn't overly garlicky and the pork was amazingly tender and had lots of flavor! This is a MOST try here! We also ordered the morning galore, and that too was good, especially the very crispy side of sweet potatoes fries. Ube pancakes were good, I was actually expecting it to be dry because it looked dry but it was pretty moist, really tasted more like a cake but not too overly sweet.
google avatar

Juls B.

Yelp
Excellent service! Daniel was so warm and friendly! Just loved his personality and so helpful. Food - brunch menu is super yummy and so many wonderful choices. I wanted to try to Ube pancakes but I went the more savory route. Breakfast burrito was large sharable. Also the sandwich large portion and sharable. We were celebrating our sister's birthday so they brought her a complimentary dessert. Such a cute and cozy indoor outdoor space. Patio perfect to sit on a sunny day. Love the surrounding area. Lots of cute shops to walk around and explore. I look forward to coming back.

Yelp
Ugg....i dislike nuevo "California cuisine." I will give this restaurant a 3 out of respect to my family, as my aunt likes this place, and we all had fun. However, this makes me feel bad that she spent so much on us. The brisket biscuit Benedict sounded amazing by description. And for $26, I was expecting greatness. Well....expectations were not met. There was a thin slice of brisket on each biscuit....one was all fat. The eggs were overcooked, essentially hard boiled. If you like eggs Benedict, that takes the fun out of a good brunch. I asked for fries, they brought me sweet potato fries. No biggie, but the replacement French fries NEVER arrived. So, no potatoes. There were other service issues as well....but I'll leave it out, because they comped a meal that arrived late, when everyone was halfway done. This place is seemingly style over substance, a hallmark of California cuisine. If you like it, good. If invited, I would return....but I'm not making any immediate plans to return

Yelp
I looove me a good spicy pasta! I had the best one in Mexico City and have been looking for one close by ever since. So, imagine my surprise when we stumbled in for my friends bday dinner and I had the privilege of enjoying this beauty after a loooong day. The pasta was perfectly tender and the sauce had the perfect amount of spice! I finished half there and immediately ate the rest when I got home lol. I will add on that the service was still really fast despite them being busy which is always nice when you're starving! Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Came here for brunch on a Saturday around 11:30. We had a reservation for a party of 4 so we were seated right away but it wasn't too crowded at that time; I feel like we could've walked up too. The location of this restaurant is great, walking distance to many nearby shops. There is a parking lot across the street with metered parking. Service was great and we all enjoyed our meals but weren't blown away by anything. The eggs of the bennies were cooked perfectly though. All of the drinks were tasty. The brisket on the brisket Benedict was very smoky and some parts were a little chewy. If I was in the area, I would eat here again and try something else.

Yelp
I needed a break from work so I decided to hideout here for lunch. Nice restaurant that is always busy so going at an off time is a good idea. I had the steak sandwich and tried some of the kale salad with chicken. Delicious! They are very good on flavors. You can taste the herbs, sauces and other ingredients in the dish. It's a little pricey but worth it. They have a large inside but also a nice outside seating area. They do charge a 3% hospitality fee to the bill. Definitely will be back.

Yelp
My cousin was in town and it happened to be her birthday so we had to find a great brunch place. Yelp did not disappoint to lead us to The Hideout Kitchen located in the lovely downtown of Lafayette. I don't come down often but when I do, I always enjoy my time. We made reservations because of our large group and we were seated right away. Our server was so attentive and kept conversing with our table especially the kiddos with us which was a plus! We ordered a variety of their brunch items. I couldn't decide between the brisket biscuit Benedict sandwich and the pulled pork silog and the server said go with the silog. I was happy I did because it was amazing! Pulled pork was very tender and the sauce they had with paired so well with the dish. Luckily for me one of my cousins ordered the brisket biscuit Benedict and that was good as well. Other items we got were chorizo tacos, grilled cheese sandwich and Ube pancakes. The Ube pancakes had a good flavor however I think it lacked the Ube flavor. It was there but very light. If it had more, it would have been 5 stars for sure. Come check out The Hideout Kitchen in downtown Lafayette for some yummy brunch eats and awesome service!

Yelp
Came here on a Monday at 11am for brunch for our anniversary. We only got the lunch menu and were told they only have brunch on the weekends. We asked for recommendations and told the host we are celebrating our anniversary . She said "oh, we need to get you some dessert today" Lunch was good. We got the hideout burger and the brisket panini. Both dishes were better than avg . Also got Parmesan fries, and salad as sides. They were good too but $1 extra. When we finished our lunch, the host came back with the dessert menu and ask if we want to order dessert. I thought she implied that they would give us dessert on the house to celebrate as some restaurants do but I guess not. Overall it's a good date place. Might come back for brunch over the weekend!
google avatar

Yelp
Honestly, what I love most about The Hideout is the ease and convenience--it's my go-to before a nearby spa treatment. I always sit at the bar for fast, no-fuss service and have never had an issue. Why I Keep Coming Back * Brunch is chill, never too packed, which is rare and appreciated. * Cocktails are solid, especially the espresso martini--smooth, bold, and hits every time. * Fave dishes: * "The Ube" Pancakes - fluffy and satisfying. * Honey Mascarpone Toast - yummmm, just the right balance of sweet and creamy. If you're looking for a low-key, dependable brunch or cocktail spot in Lafayette, especially with a spa trip on the calendar, The Hideout Kitchen is a win
google avatar

Yelp
The vibe here is great, the service is too. This place would be top notch but the pork silog was a little salty and the gravy on the waffle chicken fried sandwich was missing the salt and pepper. Otherwise it's a really cool place to visit!
google avatar

Andrew E.

Yelp
The food was good. We had the honey fried chicken and the pork silog with garlic rice. Right off the bat I could tell that the chefs have high cooking skills and everything was cooked really well. The flavors are well put together and the textures were great and ingredients were great. However, I personally would have loved a little more seasoning on both dishes. Overall really good food. The service could have been better. We came in on monday (memorial day) at 12:30. We got seated right away but got seated at the bar area which is where the problem was. We had no waiter assigned to us and had to ask random staff to call a waiter after 15 min. They kept confusing our order and weren't very attentive throughout. Food took a while to come out also. The ambiance is your typical rustic look with typical pop music playing. We were at the bar so there was a lot of chatter around us and lots of TV playing sports. This place is popular on the weekends so expect to wait. Parking can be tough to find in this area also. I would suggest this place for a nice brunch date or brunch with friends.

Yelp
We loved the food. There was a surprise to find a Filipino dish Pulled Lork Silog. It was crispy Shredded pork shoulder, garlic fried rice topped with a sunnyside egg and peppered gravy. The gravy was a different touch, but overall a delicious entree. I would order this again The waffle sandwich had a great presentation, but the person who ordered it said, he would have preferred just a chicken and waffle combination. This was a chicken fried steak, cheddar, easy egg sandwiched between two waffles, sausage gravy , butter and powdered sugar . The side was tattertots, which is always a treat!! The ube hotcake cakes were good especially with lots of syrup. The person who ordered this thought the pancakes were dry, but lots of syrup helped him eat it. Smoked Salmon Benedict was very delicious and the person who ordered this said she loved the flavor and she would definitely recommend this version of Eggs Benedict. The Steak Frites was grilled skirt steak with shoestring fries. The person who ordered this did not speak until half the dish was eaten. A thumbs up for this dish!! We would return here to try more of their food.

Yelp
We came here on a weekend day in the early afternoon. The place was packed but luckily there were high tables available for us to sit at so we were seated quickly. We had called ahead about 10 minutes prior and told the same thing, and made our way there. Parking in downtown Lafayette is all metered and it can be tricky to find parking on weekends but possible with some circling. We ordered the curry chicken wrap and the waffle sandwich. We found that the meat in each of these dishes were pretty bland. The fries and breakfast potatoes were also on the soggier end, including the Parmesan on the Parmesan fries, which was very soggy. I wasn't a huge fan of my plate and it also was not filling. I would try other things, but I would not be in a rush to get back. The servers are all very on top of clearing tables -- in fact we had multiple different people clear our plates while we were there. They are a high capacity restaurant with most seats filled. It was pretty busy there and so you're not going to get a cozy diner experience if that's what you're looking for. Lastly, they include a 3% hospitality fee on all bills.

Yelp
Dog friendly patio. Service was great by both hostesses and waiter, super friendly so no complaints there and the only reason they're getting two stars from me They added chicken and waffles to their menu literally today apparently. Maybe it's bc I come from SF, but I thought their newest addition was mid. The chicken was super dry and over breaded, the waffles were really crunchy and almost hurt to eat. Partner ordered brisket Benedict and the brisket was less dry than the chicken (which is really hard to do so this was surprising). Not sure worth the hefty price tag that comes with Walnut Creek dining

Yelp
We arrived around 11am on a Sunday and finally got seated around 12:30 despite being at the top of the list for 35 minutes. We requested to sit outside as we brought our furry friend. It was frustrating as there were 3-4 open tables to sit 2 people, but we were held to continue waiting. Overall, the service and food were really good! The tater tots were crispy and the steak bites were better than I expected. We did order parm fries and had a whole dispute as we never got them. The manager halved the price for the steak which was really sweet of her but our server doubled it back and we had a whole ordeal there. Overall, great brunch spot and I could see the appeal. Tough as the experience was frustrating toward the end

Yelp
While I did enjoy my time here at the Hideout Kitchen, I found the food was just okay. My husband and I were curious to see what it was like here after looking at all the positive reviews. I ordered the classic benedict, and my husband ordered the waffle sandwich. He said it was just okay, and I also agreed on the flavors of my meal as well - that it was just okay. It wasn't something we nodded our heads on and said "Mmmm..." Out of curiosity, we also decided to try out the brioche french toast which was all just... okay. It was a meal that made us full but not something that encouraged us to be like, "We need to come back here for brunch another day!" As for the service, our waiter was very friendly, however I think he forgot about us. Our french toast came out first, and my husband and I shared it while we were waiting for our other two orders (the benedict and sandwich). By the time our other foods got to us, we were a little disappointed because our meal was not hot, I wouldn't even say it was even warm... It was as if the food was cooked fresh and when it arrived to us, it had cooled down. :( The environment of the restaurant is very relaxing. The lights are dimmed and it is quite lively. I'm wondering if this place might be a better dinner place than brunch for me.

Yelp
Also ordered a Crimson Fog. We also ordered the buttered apple flatbread which was also delicious.

Yelp
Food 4/5 Ambiance 4/5 Service 4/5 Had a good experience here. Came as a part of 2 without a reservation on a Tuesday at 7pm and was seated immediately. I was surprised the restaurant was still so busy on a weekday so had high expectations. Porchetta & Polenta - ehhhh this was more no than yes for me. The crispy pork belly was almost inedible to us because it was so hard. We were almost unsure if it was a decorative part of the dish or meant to be eaten. However, the polenta, mushrooms and everything else was great. French onion soup - very rich and good! I'd definitely come back, but would probably order different items

Yelp
Another great experience at hideout. The service was great but our food took a while to get to the table even though we were the first family to get seated at restaurant opening and had made reservations.. overall though food was great. Everything was super delicious

Yelp
Beautiful downtown Lafayette location with cozy ambiance and well decorated/designed restaurant. Food is delicious albeit a bit on the heavier side - definitely come here hungry and ready to eat! Service is great and they make your meal feel friendly at right at home. Family friendly and plenty of space to catch up w/ friends and family. Parking is in the lots adjacent but is pay-to-park. The lots are a bit cramped and can get busy on the weekends. Grilled cheese is awesome, as is the steak and parmesan fries.

Yelp
So I heard this place is under new ownership/management. The host was very amicable and accommodating for outdoor seating on a gorgeous sunny January day. Everything on The menu looked amazing! I decided on the breakfast waffle sandwich with chicken fried steak and the flavors did not disappoint!! The gravy sauce was really tasty and meat wasn't overly breaded - although I was surprised the gravy had a heavy portion of ham bits in it- still good! My friend ordered the tuna melt and she was pleased and also surprised to see grapes in her sandwich but didn't seem to bother her. My drinks were delicious (Xpreso tini) and filthy dirty vodka martini but the portions (glasses) were small - like I finished them in two gulps... But my god the server!!!! He hardly checked on us, he seemed distant almost sour, he was dry and we had to depend on the busser to grab him like 5 times... and I don't know if he was new, had a bad morning or what but he seemed irritated that we kept asking others for service... I think we were his only outside table so he may have forgotten about us lol. We literally had to go to the bar to order our last round of drinks and close our check. But I'd come back !

Yelp
We had reservations here for 11:00 am to celebrate our annual sister's holiday brunch. First time for all 8 of us eating at The Hideout Kitchen. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. We made reservations for indoor not knowing what the weather would be but it turned out to be a beautiful day and could have enjoyed outdoor dining that day. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was superb. Lots of metered parking all around, we did see some cars that were ticketed so be sure you plug your meter! Everyone enjoyed their order and all agreed if we lived close we would definitely return to try some of the other entree selections. The restaurant got really crowded both indoors and outdoor. There was even a birthday party going on behind draped curtains that looked like 3 large tables so that would be nice to check out if you need a small gathering of maybe 25 to 30? Our waitress (she said her name was Jena) was excellent. Two of us split our orders so we could try two different items and the kitchen actually cut it in half and split the sides to serve it. What service, we just told them we were splitting and they went ahead and did it. Give this place a try. We think it's a gem!

Yelp
We had my mom's 80th bday lunch there. The management, host and servers were all very accommodating and wonderful to our party of 14. The brunch menu was great! We all chose a combination of sweet and savory. My first visit but not the last!

Yelp
The kale and pancetta salad at The Hideout In Lafayette is something I dream of! Perfectly blanched kale and chopped brussel sprouts topped with big chunks of pancetta, crispy garbanzo beans, shaved parm and a light but flavorful vinegarette. It usually comes with granny smith apples and dries apricots as well but I have them hold the fruit! My absolute fav!

Yelp
Nice ambiance in their bigger location. It has been quite a while since I visited this place after they moved and they did a great job in the new place. Had lunch here and we ordered the steak salad and tagliatelle pasta. Great presentation and great taste for both dishes.

Yelp
Waiter was awesome. Breakfast burrito was delicious. Waiter knew when I was running out of hot sauce and brought me a refill without asking. Love the indoor/outdoor seating. Would go back

Yelp
This is out first visit to the new location. We the kitchen is no more hidden away But this is a much bigger place with a bigger patio. I am happy that they replaced my butcher's flatbread with only chicken. There is bacon and brisket on it. But the menu doesn't mention it. This dish and the frittata are 4/5. I Downside - no kids menu. Our toddler liked the sweet potato fries. Thumbs up- drinks. We had two rounds of basil gimlet. It is refreshing and hits you right at the same time. Liked my guava mimosa too. Also kudos to the staff for letting us change from indoor to patio seating. The service was quick.

Yelp
I really like the casual and comfortable upscale aesthetics of The Hideout Kitchen and certainly can't complain about their portion sizes or drink menu. However, all else falls just a little short, at least during their Happy Hour. For one, service is slow. We were ready to order food along with drinks but weren't asked about it -- and eventually had to flag our waiter down to do so. When our order finally arrived, we were impressed by the size of our 3 appetizers but not so much on quality. The "crispy" Brussels Sprouts were under seasoned and not crispy. The pork belly poutine which sounded amazing on the menu turned out to consist of boiled potatoes and flabby pork belly in an uninspired gravy. Lacking much texture, it was quite disappointing. The one really enjoyable dish was the grilled and juicy Shrimp Street Tacos, but even there, I thought the corn tortillas were not quite fresh. We'll need to try again. Maybe The Hideout Kitchen shines most for breakfast/brunch. Meanwhile, we were underwhelmed and not too anxious to return for Happy Hour.

Yelp
My husband and I came here to celebrate a special date night. We saw this place Check Please, Bay Area and decided to try them out. There is a paid parking lot across the street which is super convenient. The decor is very California cool..not sure how to explain it but it's cozy and comforting. Food: I went with the honey friend chicken entree which comes with sautéed kale and mashed potatoes. The chicken was cooked perfectly and had a nice touch with the honey. My husband went with the pork tapislog which had a nice vinegar umami flavor. The garlic rice and fried egg are the best sides with this dish. We both had a classic margarita which was made just rights. Service was on point, our waitress came by at the right times. They had a small company gathering in the outside patio which makes me think it's good for medium size groups.

Yelp
Went to the hideout back-to-back within a week. Ambiance is nice and seems like a lot of regulars there. Noise level medium. Great for bdays, reunions, fam and friends gathering. Food is good. Menu is not extensive so if you are like me who has a hard time choosing this will make it simpler. Service is good.

Yelp
The owner has out done himself taking over the space off of Lafayette Circle. From the reception of entering, being seated to the service, his staff is on it. A cocktail & some wine before perusing the menu that looks overall scrumptious the only issue was where to start. We started off with the 'roasted garlic hummus' presentation was on spot, flavors were very nice, at best 1 more slice of pita bread - overall just grand. The mains were: the 'blackened salmon' & the 'scallops risotto' both were just scrumptious, the flavors were bursting; frankly some of the best scallops I've had in a long time. Let's not forget dessert - oh my goodness bring on the churro waffle, they don't have an expresso machine, so regular coffee did the trick. Ambiance is casual, seating both inside & out. Seating at the bar, a couple of large screen TVs - I do wonder if a place like this, so nice could do without the TVs? Yet those sitting at the bar might insist. Pricing is on the high end. What by the way is the hospitality tax? Anyone? I realize that rent in Lafayette is not cheap & the prices probably reflect such. Overall - I'd return.

Yelp
Came at opening time and didn't have to wait to be seated. Sat outside to enjoy brunch. Server was attentive and waters didn't go dry. The food? Nothing short of amazing. The kale salad that came with the Honey Fried Chicken was the best kale I've ever eaten. Clams and muscles were fresh and tasty and the wafflesandwich is such a great combo. Clean bathrooms. Only bad thing I have to say is that the floor under our table looked like it hadn't been swept from the day before. Highly recommend this place for a good brunch/lunch.

Yelp
Delightful time at Hideout. Waiter very good. Top notch drinks and service. Fried chicken plate is phenomenal. Seafood stew pretty tasty. Bread pudding was amazing and decadent too. All great- service could be a bit faster but we enjoyed the crew we were with.

Yelp
Great food, cool atmosphere and good service! Biscuits and Gravy (4 Stars), would have been 5 if they put more gravy on. Kale salad (4 stars) Cheese Burger (4 stars) No egg, I just didn't understand this trend putting a fried egg on everything... Swapped havarti for cheddar. They perfectly cooked to order (medium), fresh veggies and great bun. Good quality meat. Good stuff! Traditional eggs Benedict (4 stars) add avocado. The dish was executed perfectly, running egg, quality ham, toasted muffin and really good Hollandaise. Pulled Pork: Silog (4 Stars) The pork was perfect cooked, tender, great flavor. The garlic rice was also awesome. Until next time... Next try: Chicken Fried Steak and Gravy Shrimp and Grits

Yelp
Met up with an old friend fora weekday lunch. Lots of choices on offer. I had the blackened salmon. It was cooked perfectly: flakey and moist. The pesto sauce on top was a nice addition. My friend got the chopped Cobb salad and she enjoyed the huge portion and fresh ingredients. We ate out in the front patio area. It was nice and rustic. Our server was very friendly. Nice food, great location.

Yelp
Once again, The Hideout Kitchen proves it's not just hiding out--it's showing up and showing off! We had two milestone birthdays to celebrate, and the vibe was just right for a cozy, celebratory dinner. The staff? Gracious, patient, and on top of every detail--including accommodating food allergies in our party. Let's talk menu: every dish sounded so good. I kicked things off with a guava sangria (a first for me!), and wow--sweet, refreshing, and dangerously easy to keep drinking. I stopped at one, but only because I was trying to be a responsible adult (and because someone had to drive home). The marscapone toast? A non-negotiable. If you don't order it, I can't help you. For the main event, I went with the branzino special, and it was a flavorful showstopper. I even left room for dessert because priorities--and the Nutella s'mores were a gooey, chocolatey nutty dream. I shared it with my husband, but don't ask me why. Mistakes were made. And shoutout to the bathroom: clean, well-stocked, and dad-approved. ("If the bathroom ain't clean, the kitchen ain't clean," as my father always says--and he's not wrong.) Bottom line: Hideout Kitchen, you continue to be our go-to for food, fun, and feelings of "I need a nap but also maybe another round of toast." Oh! And my husband didn't have to put a suit on to get this level os service and ambiance.

Yelp
I like you like the kitchen I used to go there quite often when they were at their other location and I've been there several times at the new location. Both were nice. Their food is excellent and the service is always great.
