"Perched atop the cliffs overlooking Willamette Falls, this cozy pub has an old-timey feel, with Scottish-inspired decor and mahogany woodwork. The menu features Scottish favorites with a Northwest twist, like cottage pie, pasties, and salmon coated in a barley grist — that grist is even shipped here from an isle in Scotland. Prepare to be amazed by the pub’s collection of single-malt scotch, as it’s the largest selection to be found in the Portland area." - Michelle DeVona, Janey Wong

A friend and I came here after visiting Canemah Bluff. The espresso martinis and food were GREAT. They had gluten free onion rings, mac n cheese, and crab dip. Delicious.

If you're looking for a classic pub experience, this is your place. The food is delicious, the wait staff are friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is immaculate (dark, eclectic, cozy). The fish and chips are the best I've had since moving to the PNW over 2 years ago and their portion sizes are no joke. The shrimp cocktail is fresh, the fried mushrooms are stellar, and the scotch egg is flavorful. If you're a sauce lover, their tarter sauce, cocktail sauce, and mustard pair perfectly with the dishes. They have a great selection of beer, but you can't go wrong with a Guinness. Remember to leave room for dessert and try the sticky toffee pudding. I honestly forgot to take pictures of the food because I was too excited to dig in.

Brown Shuga was a perfect server being attentive and courteous! North Coast Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout is delicious!!! The Oregon Rockfish & chips were just as delicious! The patio was enjoyable soaking in the scenery & sunshine! Took a Bourbon County 2013 for a night cap and a Banger w/onions and mustard for a delicious breakfast!!

Maybe the best restaurant experience I've had this year. Interacted with four different staff members. They were all genuinely friendly and cheery. Felt at home. The environment is relaxed and I loved the crazy maze of an interior they have, felt like an explorer making it to the second floor. Our food was excellent, us two split a full order of fish and chips, and got a side of mac and cheese. The fish was not soggy or greasy like some of the bad reviews said. Both the fish and chips were excellent, and the mac was indeed cheesy and well baked. And the beers, they have many on nitro so very creamy and delicious. There was not a single thing I didn't love about this place, including the second floor restroom. Thanks to the staff especially for their friendliness. Will be back.

Google
Fantastic and complete list of hundreds (1000’s?) of whiskies from around the world. We had a custom built flight, designed by Paige, the most knowledgeable and friendly hostess I have experienced. A fine evening out. Foods included delicious selections of Cod, Calamari, Bangers and Mash and Beef Pastie. Also we enjoyed a traditional Scottish egg. Go there, but plan on giving it time to taste. And ask to be seated in Paige’s section!

Absolute must try! Scotch from all over the world including Israel, India, and China! Atmosphere is amazing!!! One of the best pub atmospheres!! Service is great and food is even better! They have an upstairs, downstairs, and outside. Might be a drive but do yourself a favor and check it out! Pro tip to get to the second floor use the ramp on the back side!

Oh my lord, this is too good to have only just learned about a year ago, if you are ever in the area you should go here! We got the fish and chips and they were cooked absolutely perfect and delicious. We also got the calamari and I have to say that will put me in a coma if I keep eating it, absolutely delicious food all around, I have to say though, the service is good but you certainly have a longer wait to order and pay, not totally a bad thing just not great

What a vibe! A friend and I came in around 2:30 on a drizzly Sunday afternoon to grab a bite and a drink. Parking is a weird situation, they have a small lot that, for some reason, has a faded out sign for tri-met park and ride... I parked there anyway and didn't get a ticket or towed or anything, so I guess that's ok? This place has two entrances - one is at the corner of the building at the intersection with the traffic light, and the other you walk up a wooden ramp past their balcony seating and to a door on the second floor (the building is kind of at the edge of a hill, it'll make sense once you see it). Friend and I went into the first floor entrance, which seems to be the minors-acceptable space. The person who greeted us kind of ushered us upstairs immediately, which is where the minors-not-allowed space is. From what I saw of the downstairs, it feels like a pretty traditional pub, with some good natural light from street-facing windows. Upstairs is a completely different story though. Everything is dark, with comfortable couches and chairs, an electric fireplace, darts, and a bar separated through three different small rooms. My friend and I got pints of Guinness and pilsner, an order of cod fish and chips, sausage roll, and a Reuben sandwich with chips (fries). I wish I would have remembered to take a photo, they do their fries here as more of a potato wedge. They came out perfectly crispy and not soggy in the middle, and were very obviously fresh because they were hot! Everything was delicious, I loved my Reuben and was really happy that they could accommodate my dairy allergy by omitting the cheese. The sausage rolls were just as they should be - slightly savory and perfect with a little dab of Hp brown sauce. They did come with a choice of jams, my friend tried one of them that we hadn't heard of before (tayberry). Along with the great food and atmosphere, the service here was outstanding! Not overly hover-y, but not absent, no rush to get out after we'd finished eating, but still *there* - really made us feel welcome to sip and enjoy our beers and have a chat. This is place is clearly intended to be a "3rd space". I just wish I lived closer!

Yelp
A few years ago, I had my 50th birthday party and they allowed me to bring my own band to play upstairs. Doesn't get much better than that for a cozy and festive gathering! We've adored the Highland Still House for 15 years now... Bellhaven Wee Heavy is The Best, also love their Pasties, and Thursday Night Open Session is rad... as you can see from below photo and video.

Yelp
Walked the promenade today and decided to check out this pub. Really cool decor inside but we opted for outdoors for the view. Dog friendly seating outside. Tasty beers and ciders. Wings were small and not very meaty. The onion wings were crispy and cooked to perfection. We enjoyed the bangers and beans and the Curry chicken pastie. I wish the pastie was hot, it was just warm and the dough was undercooked a tad. Not a bad flavor though. The beef and mushroom pie was excellent but also not hot. I've worked in restaurants and know that food should be served hot so hopefully they read this and improve on that. Waitress was excellent!

Yelp
Ambiance is superb. Inside and outside is inviting and comfortable. Good and drinks prepared great. Of course, service was amazing.

Yelp
Really cute pub. Delicious pub food with a Scottish twist. Clam chowder great. Bangers good, fried cod sandwich delicious. Amazing artichoke crab appetizer with delicious warm bread. Service was perfect. Parking on site.

Emily W.

Yelp
One of the best stews I have EVER had. The Steak and Mushroom Pie was fantastic, seasoned and cooked perfectly, came out piping hot and the flaky pastry on top was perfectly made. My hubby got the Shepherd's Pie which was great as well, heavily seasoned with piped mash potatoes on top. The service was quick and the live music was great to listen to, they were not too loud and they played several different songs. We sat downstairs in the bar area and the seating was eccentric but comfortable. Definitely recommend for a late night Scottish meal and drink. :)

Lori G.

Yelp
Was treated very rudely, will never eat here. Called ahead letting them know I had a group of 14 people, was told they would save a table at 6 pm. Got there, no table, and very unpleasant customer service. We went elsewhere for dinner!

Paulette W.

Yelp
We sat there over an hour and never received our order. After having to flag down our waiter to order to begin with. Every other table was served and we were ignored!! I was so very disappointed!!!

Hayden M.

Yelp
Poor management handled when we never received our drink and the spicy chicken sandwich was not spicy. The sandwich only came with honey mustard... Also the steak was a very bland. Do not recommend. Our dishes were not remade or corrected. Had to pay in full. Very unhappy with this experience.

Christie S.

Yelp
I've driven by this place so many times and finally decided to try it. Yum! We tried a few appetizers and left very full and satisfied. Service was good and fast. We were offered a few tastes of different beers/ciders before making a selection. We'll be back!

Patti K.

Yelp
Honestly why would a vegetarian love a Scottish pub for its food? Veggie options: people! I had resigned myself to having a beer while everyone ate meaty things, but to my surprise, there's a veggie pasty, giant salads and yummy snacks. It was a cold day but we sat outside with our pup and looked at the view from the cannon (cool!). Covered tables and a pretty garden area (unexpected!) Our server came outside (I mentioned it was cold!) and gave great service and the food came out surprisingly quick. And: really nice strong ale! Cheers!

Karen T.

Yelp
My Mom & I waited patiently 40 minutes to be served & that only happened because my Mom flagged down a waiter and after 20 additional min waiting for our food(that never came) we left, all the while 3 other couples that came in after us were not only served but had eaten or were eating! Unbelievably disappointing!

Clayton G.

Yelp
I've patronized the Highland Stillhouse for decades and watched its slow decline , menu wise. On the bright side the waitress in the upstairs area worked her rear off, was polite and attentive. The order came back to us in decent time and she kept checking back with us. They still carry the best selection of whiskies in our area with some unique beers and wines too; just not for the faint of heart price-wise. Stopped in with friends on 05/05/24 at lunchtime. Ordered "Wings of Tam O Shanter", Scotch Egg, and onion rings and , of course, some adult beverages. Wings? They state the wings were from a chicken. I would judge they're from a Cornish Game Hen, barely anything there. Waste of $12. Contrast this with "Wing Wednesday" at Kenton Station in north Portland where the wings are like they're from turkeys at half Highland Stillhouses price. The Onion Rings were very good, yum, although VERY greasy. $11 The Scotch Egg presented itself more like a quail egg and has been that way for many years but I thought they'd step it up a little, after all, ,eggs are pretty cheap to buy with a big profit margin. Imagine the smallest chicken egg one could find then a very thin film of sausage enveloping it for $12 and it was not tasty like they used to be at twice the old price. It's still a fine place to sample a whiskey you are interested in but don't want to buy the whole bottle and a great ambiance. We'll got back but order less food next time.

Leticia V.

Yelp
This place has a great gluten-free menu! We got the 4 piece fish and chips the fried mushrooms. They were so delicious!! I couldn't even tell it was a gf batter. I would suggest taking a look at the menu and giving this place a try.

Debbie M.

Yelp
Went to The Stillhouse for Fish and Chips and boy were we pleased!! The fish and chips was delicious, the service was awesome and the place was so cool!!! We will definitely be back again.

Tania C.

Yelp
Great food. When they are busy it can be hard to find parking and the seating is a little cramped with my two boys over 6'. But overall great place, good food, nice ambiance.

Kimberly D.

Yelp
I have spent quite a bunch of time in Scotland and the food here is spot on and really delicious. You wouldn't think of Scottish food as being exciting, but it is super comforting. Service could be a bit better, but overall like an old style pub in Scotland.

Dan W.

Yelp
The best Scotch Menus I have ever seen in the Portland area! Fish and Chips are Great! Scottish Eggs and Shepherd's Pie are also dynamite! Nice ambiance with very helpful waitresses. I know I'll be there again soon.

Douglas I.

Yelp
Food was excellent! We had the mushrooms and split an order of fish and chips! The service was great! Will be going back again soon.

Daniel D.

Yelp
The fish and chips are good and the onion rings are perfect. The Scotch Egg is decent but I'm not the biggest fan of mustard. The pub has a fun relaxing atmosphere with live folk music and friendly staff.

Carrie M.

Yelp
Gluten free options are a plus. Great fish and chips. Wine pours are poor. People are great. This place is local, has a great following, however, could use a deep clean and reupholstered seats in ALL their downstairs chairs and benches that are literally full of holes. Highland Pub has a busy yet historic location overlooking one of America's greatest geological places - Willamette Falls. Here's to hoping they can put a bit of punch in their cleanliness and aesthetic to make it an even greater place!!!

Laura C.

Yelp
I still love coming to this cozy, dark pub in Oregon City. The food is typical of a pub but there are a few unique Scottish dishes to try. I usually stick to apps (pasties are all delicious). Just be mindful, the food is prepared in a very small kitchen so it can be a little slow to come out when they're busy. Also, this is a great place to try rare Whiskeys (some are only served on specific days so call ahead if your wanting to try something specific).

Brian M.

Yelp
I love this pub. The fish and chips is in point and delicious. Fan of whiskey? Boy is this place for you! They have a large selection of whiskey to choose from and if you are lucky enough to stop by when Annie is there, she will drop a ton of whiskey knowledge. The inside feels like a traditional pub.

Robin J.

Yelp
The menu and food is consistently delicious. I miss your haggis balls though! And Thistly Cross...damn you, Covid! But always a great spot to stop. And so many whiskeys to choose a dram of something new or something you can't live without. And the St Patrick's fun hasn't had the crowds it used to have but it's still so much fun and we make a point to come down to celebrate my birthday every year

Alexandra C.

Yelp
Appalling treatment from the manager. I took my parents there the other evening for live music and wanted to show my mom the beautiful outdoor area. Tried to order a drink upstairs and the manager was clearly stressed -- yelled at me for ordering away from my table, was extremely rude to my parents. My mom, who has memory issues, started to get very overwhelmed. Too stressful to justify going back. A shame, because the food, drinks, and ambiance were otherwise great, but completely overshadowed by the stress.

Craig F.

Yelp
Scan the menu with your phone to see the offerings (dead tree versions available for Luddites) Great selection of ales, etc; full bar. Excellent food -- at least the case for fish & chips or the calamari (Caesar salad was a bit unexciting, however). Very personable staff and excellent service.

S O.

Yelp
Excellent whiskey bar with excellent pub food. This is where I meet my friends for my birthday lunch. I would suggest going in the afternoon if you want to eat as it can get pretty packed during busy times.

Ragnar M.

Yelp
Staff is rude, food is poorly made and made me sick. When I complained about it they didn't even care and still charged me for it. I tried to give them other chance and they said I was disruptive. They staff underage kids behind the bar, and unless it's a straight pour they don't know how to make it.

Wendy M.

Yelp
We came for the fish and chips and stayed for the Cottage pie! The salad was fresh and delicious. Staff was nice.

Randy S.

Yelp
Amazingly knowledgeable staff brings scotch whiskies and worldly whiskies to suit your palate and experience in tasting. There is outdoor seating, but I prefer the cozy parlor experience. Highly recommend. p.s. the food is darn good, try the scotch eggs.

Stacie B.

Yelp
One of my fave places in the greater Portland area. Prices have gone up so I don't feel like it's a place to go just anytime but that's happening at lots of places. I have been here a lot over the years & never had a bad meal. Staff doesn't forget you & they are real people- polite but never syrupy. You cant get a cooler vibe if you are looking fir a real pub atmosphere either. I just love this place!

Jeffrey R.

Yelp
This is a cute little pub with great decor, as well as quick service. We ordered an appetizer with our meal, and it came out at the same time as our main courses. Like any good fare from across the pond, the menu contains a lot of deep-fried options. We were hoping to have an appetizer that was NOT deep-fried, but they were out of the Banger Sliders, so we opted for the Braveheart Bangers... which was tasty Zenner's sausage wrapped in bacon, deep-fried, and served with spicy mustard and a pile of "chips". The batter on the app had a decent crunch to it, but the exterior had a little too much residual grease clinging to it. For our main courses, my wife and I both got a half portion of fish & chips -- I got cod, and she got rockfish. The half portions were quite large, especially considering the price, and we both took half of ours home. For my fish & chips, one of the fish filets had a nice crispy coating, but the others were softer and a little greasier -- possibly from oil that wasn't hot enough. The fish was nice and fresh, with good flavor, but some of the chips were under-cooked. The dish came with delicious coleslaw, but the portion was so tiny that it was barely two forks worth. Would be nice to have a little more of that on the plate to help lighten up all that heavy fried food. I would definitely go to The Highland Stillhouse again, but I would definitely avoid getting multiple deep-fried items. Yelp won't let me give a 3.5, so I will round up to a 4.

Sherri A.

Yelp
Hello all, We popped in for a simple meal and we were blessed to pop into Stillhouse!!! The service was amazing and friendly ( shout out to PAGE!!) the food was a delight, well made and served with a great smile! GREAT FOOD!!!!!! The music was a fun mix and we found ourselves really enjoying the music and the atmosphere! Peace be with you all Sherri A.

Todd S.

Yelp
Had the fish and chips to share with my wife. They were good. Not the best ever but good none the less. Was disappointed that my 6.75 bottle beer was charged for $8.00 and my wife's was also charged $8.00 for her draft. Seriously a bummer when you go in looking for a good fun meal and are overcharged on purpose. Waitress too busy to check what she charged us. Watch your check!!!!

Melissa R.

Yelp
Great fish and chips. Love this place! It's a cool bar inside with lots of whiskey options.

Heath B.

Yelp
Food and service amazing really blown away with how well we were treated as well as the quality that was served and given.

Laura R.

Yelp
I loved the atmosphere the minute I walked through the door. It was very welcoming. The food was delicious. I had the best Reuben sandwich I have ever eaten! The music added to the overall experience.

Tara B.

Yelp
Guinness on tap! Harder to find then you would think. They also have a great Scottish, verging in just U.K., menu and a really friendly staff. We sat in the top floor bar area and enjoyed the atmosphere and music. We had a few of the appetizers, and there are several to pick from, as well as the toffee bread pudding. Love that the appetizer menu is so large as you get great options and the serving sizes are perfect for ordering several. They were out of a few ingredients so couldn't order the haggis balls, but can't fault them for that with the current supply chain issues. Will defiantly back to this establishment!

Carrie M.

Yelp
Gluten free designated drier is a rare find, and their GF fish n chips are among the finest around! Great people, all house made slaws, etc. Fantastic!!!!

Jodi G.

Yelp
The Shepard pie was amazing!!! Loved the ambiance! My whole family enjoyed their meals and beer.

Tami W.

Yelp
Awesome gluten free fish and chips. They have a dedicated separate fryer for GF items. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We sat outside as it was a beautiful day. The inside gives you the feel of an old Scottish pub. They have other GF items as well so we'll be back! (Hope they start offering GF calamar at some point!) They have an online GF menu that even lists info about salad dressings and sauces they use.

Scott B.

Yelp
Four stars is probably a bit generous, but it has great ambience both inside and out and the service is great. The food is slightly above average. There's a great whiskey selection. Outside in the summer, there's a great view of the falls. This place has been here forever and I go at least once a year.

Marie E.

Yelp
OMG! had the beef pastie and chips(fries). It was freaking outstanding. The crust was flaky and tender and chewy. The fries were perfectly cooked, and the service was a tent, knowledgeable and treated you like you were their best friend! The atmosphere was wonderful like a great old Scottish pub. I had a spot of bother outside trying to catch a bus home and then manager Kenna was so concerned about me. She came outside and helped me resolve my issue. The nicest people you would ever want to meet. I have been back several times now and they treat me like family awesome place to come have food and listen to good music! the prices are reasonable, and everything else is outstanding! They also have flights of whiskey for you to try. It's a good way to try it different whiskeys, so you get to know about whiskey.

Gabriella C.

Yelp
A lot of fun on Sunday evenings. Great outdoor seating. Good beer and excellent whiskey selection

Kaitlyn D.

Yelp
One of our favorite places! Such a unique and cool environment. The service and food is great but the ambiance is the best part. Dimly lit, old building, cool stain glass windows, fun nooks and crannies. We always enjoy our time there!

Jackson D.

Yelp
Great atmosphere with OUTSTANDING Pasties, Reuben, Cole Slaw. Sunday Breakfast ok ( no black pudding the day I went. Staff great and friendly. Atmosphere cozy and euro pub like. Will be back.

Larry Sonny B.

Yelp
This is a charming Scottish pub. It's been awhile since I've been here, but it always been a memorable and enjoyable experience.

Maryann M.

Yelp
Finally tried Stillhouse after driving past it for years because we wanted something "different"Wow we have been missing out! Tried the fish & chips and the Cottage Pie and both were delicious. Reasonably priced for the portions, atmosphere was that of an old English pub, or what I imagine it would be. Looking forward to coming back and trying the other tasty menu offerings.

Alberto C.

Yelp
Scottish egg and the fish and chips was great. The Reuben sandwich was...well, the pastrami meat was burnt and super dry. It was disappointing since it was recommended by the waiter. And speaking of the waiter, terrible service. When we got there, he told us we could sit under the gazebo, so we did. We had to grab the sanitizing towel to wipe it down ourselves. We then asked for a drink menu, and as soon as he handed it, he walked away immediately, so we had to call out to him that we were ready to order. Another example is that we ordered hot wings but instead got hog wings, and when we notified him, he said we should have said chicken hot wings...sonit was our fault. And when it finally arrived, it came with an empty bowl. Hint: it supposed to have ranch in it. 2 stars because the fish and chips were good.

Carie B.

Yelp
Every day at the Highland Stillhouse is always a great time, but today was even better. It was Ardbeg day, and they arranged games and a scavenger hunt, with awesome gifts. I was lucky enough to win the limited edition 2023 Vapors shirt, which I will treasure. Kaleb and the whole team are a joy!

Spencer D.

Yelp
Really great fish and chip! We also had the cottage pie! The view was incredible. We will definitely be back. Love this funky spot.
