Yelp
This is a cute little pub with great decor, as well as quick service. We ordered an appetizer with our meal, and it came out at the same time as our main courses. Like any good fare from across the pond, the menu contains a lot of deep-fried options.
We were hoping to have an appetizer that was NOT deep-fried, but they were out of the Banger Sliders, so we opted for the Braveheart Bangers... which was tasty Zenner's sausage wrapped in bacon, deep-fried, and served with spicy mustard and a pile of "chips". The batter on the app had a decent crunch to it, but the exterior had a little too much residual grease clinging to it.
For our main courses, my wife and I both got a half portion of fish & chips -- I got cod, and she got rockfish. The half portions were quite large, especially considering the price, and we both took half of ours home. For my fish & chips, one of the fish filets had a nice crispy coating, but the others were softer and a little greasier -- possibly from oil that wasn't hot enough. The fish was nice and fresh, with good flavor, but some of the chips were under-cooked.
The dish came with delicious coleslaw, but the portion was so tiny that it was barely two forks worth. Would be nice to have a little more of that on the plate to help lighten up all that heavy fried food.
I would definitely go to The Highland Stillhouse again, but I would definitely avoid getting multiple deep-fried items. Yelp won't let me give a 3.5, so I will round up to a 4.
