On the Grid : The Historic Alfred I Dupont Building

"Save for the modern day upscale jewelry stores, eateries and offices that inhabit the DuPont, you would think you walked into another era. This building is the city’s only Art Deco skyscraper (1939), meticulously restored, and a great representation of Art Moderne Architecture. From bas-relief elevator doors with palm trees, marble flooring and original hand painted Cypress wood ceilings to brass gates, you will not need to take an extended tour to experience the extent of its glamour." - Lemon Yellow

I recently photographed a wedding at the DuPont Building in downtown Miami, and it’s one of the most photogenic venues I’ve worked in. The natural light inside the building is outstanding—clean, soft, and consistent throughout the day, which makes a big difference when capturing both portraits and candid moments. Architecturally, the space has a timeless elegance: high ceilings, detailed stonework, and spacious rooms that allow for a lot of creative flexibility without needing much added décor. From a workflow perspective, everything is smooth. The layout works well for moving between getting-ready moments, first looks, ceremony, and reception without feeling disjointed. And despite being right in the heart of the city, the venue feels private and tucked away once you’re inside. If you’re a couple looking for a classic venue with strong visual character—and if photography is a priority—the DuPont Building delivers. Rock and Love Weddings

Google
Absolutely gorgeous venue! The Alfred DuPont Building in Miami is a showstopper..it is elegant, cool, and full of character. Our son and daughter in law’s wedding was unforgettable. The space is fabulous, it was a dreamy whimsical night. The architecture is unreal, and it gives any event a kind of timeless, cinematic feel. Deborah is amazing and seamless to work with. #AlPsquared❤️ would love to do it all again!!!

Amazing staff (was there as a vendor- entertainer/band for wedding). From point of entry and throughout the event the staff was amazing. Green room assistance, good, drinks, etc. Exceptional service and overall good experience, particularly as a vendor.

Yelp
Not sure if the parking garage structure is run by the actual building but super disappointed in their weekend Saturday parking scam! They are on a one way street that runs to the west they place the sign facing the entrance showing the $15 all day price however if you look at the sign facing east the Saturday price should be $10 but by the time you see it they have already charged you the $15. That a sad way to run a business! I always tip valet drivers but when they didn't make an effort to honor they sign they simply lost my $5 tip which I would have gladly given had they been forthcoming. Just a heads up to anyone using this garage on a Saturday, check on the Saturday price before you pay! BTW had it not been for this deception I would have gladly given 5 stars based on service

Yelp
The Alfred I. Dupont Building is Miami's only Art Deco skyscraper and a representation of Depression Moderne architecture. Built in 1939, the restored mezzanine level began serving as an elegant special event space in 2001. A former bank headquarters, the 22,000-square-foot space with two distinct ballrooms boasts wall-to-wall marble flooring, hand-painted cypress wood ceilings, original brass scrollwork on gates, and original teller windows and bank vaults. I don't love the walk from the parking garage to the venue (you go through a lobby) and then you can go upstairs by escalator, walking or one of the 5 elevators to your venue (one is a service elevator). It is a huge space but I think the main issue is the drive to the venue and the surrounding area to the Bldg. not the best. So you need to decide if that's ok with you...

Yelp
Based on a majority of the literary analysis of The Great Gatsby, it could very easily have been set in 2000's Miami with our real estate developers, entrepreneurs and whatnot. I mean, didn't the line stretch around the block for his parties? But I digress..The Great Gatsby was one of my favorite books in high school english so when I heard about a Gatsby theme party in Miami it had a place on my calendar. Perhaps fittingly, it was held in the lobby of the historic Alfred I Dupont Building downtown. Built in 1939 as an art deco skyscraper, it's been everything from a spy hub during World War 2 to a bank and office building to now an event space. If I recall right, I might have even gone a few years to a liquor tasting event. The marble lobby, the grand staircase, and bar behind what was the old bank teller stations were perfectly opulent for the occasion. I heard that an interactive "Money Heist" event was held there previously. As far as the Gatsby event, it was held in the upper lobby with a VIP area with three bar sections from where I enjoyed a couple of smooth yet strong Old Fashioneds. There was also a dessert station from where I got a micro key lime pie. Within that VIP space there were a few private tables, including one that had an orchestra playing jazzy remixes of current pop hits. The main dance floor had a stage with dancers, a DJ and live performances including a very sensuous burlesque act. This area had a bar as well. The ground lobby also has a few photo art pieces on display. Certainly a fun Saturday night and I'll keep an eye out for other events here.

Yelp
Fantastic and beautiful historic builing in downtown which is also my polling place. There is a large space that can be used for parties and events. I went and enjoyed The Macallan Experience there and the setup was magnificent, with indoor gardens mimicking the original setup of the Macallan mansion. The building itself which was built in 1939 looks remarkably in great shape with luxurious details that are so rare in today's modern construction. If you are into building and architecture, this sure is one to see.

Yelp
They ruined my SUV they covered up the damage and when I washed the vehicle yesterday I discovered the large damage sustained! I feel cheated and tricked

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful building. This was built in the 1950's. Used to be a bank. Now, it's a great venue for hosting different events.

Yelp
This historic building is a brilliant exhibition space for Prizm Art Fair with its depression modern architecture and art deco embellishments from street front facade, flooring to ceiling design. Prizm focuses on the African Diaspora and given the layers of the "Black experience," the varying interior textures of the DuPont heightened the mood to reflect and intellectualize the works being shown. https://www.yelp.com/biz/prizm-art-fair-miami Note: 3-star rating due to parking not particularly accessible nor nominal cost as well as it is a commercial building with other activities.

Yelp
This is a beautiful venue for weddings private parties etc. It's an a private party over there I love the space and the old-school style. Reminds me of the old school banks with the gold iron doors.

Yelp
This building is absolutely gorgeous. It's an old Miami style building. I went for a job interview here. Even though there are a lot of floors it seems like a very private and intimate building. There is a security as you walk in in, however there is no need to check in if you know where you are going you can walk on through. The parking was extremely limited. There is only street parking in front of the building, which I was lucky enough to get, and there are some garages near by which are a little further.

Yelp
***Rating the parking garage only*** First of all, all parking in Downtown Miami is ridiculously overpriced. ALL of it. I chose to try this garage because it has a roof and I don't have to struggle with my 27-point parallel parking. The parking garage attendants are nice and personable. My older vehicle has a few quirks. For example, the key is partially broken, and the start up requires patience. I was hesitant about valet parking my car because I thought it would be damaged or the key would be lost. The attendants always keep these quirks in mind and are careful with my older vehicle. The customer service is truly unbeatable but unfortunately that doesn't make up for the ridiculously overpriced cost of $10 a day. So basically, if you work in Downtown be prepared to pay $300/ month of parking alone.
