On the Grid : The Hole

"Started by a former Deitch Projects curator and director, The Hole has a cool, downtime vibe so fitting for the Bowery. With two exhibits every month featuring solo and group artists, this is the place to go for the unconventional and unexpected." - Carbone Smolan Agency

Great art exhibits and talented artists.

Google
The best gallery I’ve visited in a while. The door was slightly cracked open, inviting you to come in. Many galleries in the city are visitor hostile in subtle ways. This place is the complete opposite. The current exhibit blew me away. It’s clear the curator only selects artists who have rock solid foundational skills. Everything in the gallery was amazing to look at.

Great art gallery, especially when they have an opening night. This is the original location, and they have a second in Tribeca. They also have one of the cutest resident gallery dogs.

Google
One of the best art galleries in NYC. Well curated selection of artists and visually striking exhibition design.

Beautiful, well lit space. I've never seen a whiter and brighter gallery. There's a whole lot of space to walk around in and enjoy massive (or smaller) works.

Google
cool gallery with your typical aloof and uninterested front desk art gallery girl, spacious but quick to get through and not as packed as other galleries in the city.

Yelp
Maybe not the biggest or the fanciest of galleries, but it's on the Bowery, which means it's within walking distance of SoHo and NoHo. It could be part of a wicked gallery walk in this area. I viewed their "Horrorpilation" series. I didn't even know that was a real word, but yes! it is! And the subject matter here was perfect . . . creepy, unsettling, otherworldly. The gallery is wide, open. And honestly, it's lit better than any gallery I've ever seen. So often galleries have glaring lights that make it difficult to view or take photos of works. This setup was perfect. The wall colors were also amazing. Moody, dark, luscious. Perfect accompaniment to the artworks. The colors, the artwork, the lighting . . . this was so well thought out. I know The Hole is one of my new go-to galleries.

Yelp
I love art galleries and this was a great little find. We were walking by and decided to stop in to check it out. They had an interesting exhibition of pieces that were created with 3D technology. We were handed special glasses to wear as we walked around the space. Super cool!! My favourite part was the cute little doggy working at the gallery. Fun fact he has over 17,000 Instagram followers! Definitely worth a visit when in the neighbourhood.

Yelp
The Space: This is a small gallery located in Bowery and I honestly love how unique the exhibits are. From what I can see, they have a great selection of past and current exhibits. This is a great gallery if you are looking for innovative contemporary art. There is a main gallery and a seperate smaller room where they will feature another artist. At the time that I went they had one artist that had a very photogenic exhibit of blinking neon lights. The whole exhibit will take you about 15 to 30 minutes to explore. I would stop by if you are in the area, not really big enough to be a destination. However, I was pleasantly surprised and the staff was very nice!

Yelp
Great little gallery that featured art along the walls upon entering, a VR headset room, and a visual display called "Road Trip II" - which was my favorite part of my experience! Overall, not very busy (went around 2PM), features cool art inside, and a great spot for photos!

Yelp
Great simple art gallery. They had VR & some cool art inside. Very lowkey. Not busy at all. Went around 7pm on a Sunday. Hipster vibes lol

Yelp
I don't know if I can say The Hole is your typical art gallery area in the NOHO area but I was here for a party that got ratchet. It was a music performance, many Dj's on deck and a lot of alcohol for some people to get to try. I got to meet up with some old friends in the party scene, catch up to my main brooklyn peeps who came out for this one too. This one only had the art is the very far back room but on a regular day I hear the owner is very nice and the art pieces are worth checking out. Next time I am in the area or here for a party will definitely love to come back to The Hole (didn't sound too dirty, right). I heard that it normally showcases two different exhibits a month and sells books and odds and ends stuff right in the front near entrance.

Yelp
What a joke. Snotty "receptionist" who did not bother to look up as I entered the "gallery". Two other morbidly hip dudes were in the back on puters, too cool to acknowledge me. The show was call "Portraits". I like some of them. But the vibe was only an ass would spend money at the "hole".

Yelp
Came for the Giverny exhibit and saw the place transformed, v cool textural elements. However, I didn't care for the multiple staff sitting at the front engrossed in their laptops that didn't have a moment to look up and say welcome when we came in and paused at the front. I get it, it's the EV and you're too cool to actually greet anyone, but here this - the only reason why you're there is for people to come see. Don't ruin the exhibit before crowds even walk through.

Yelp
This place was so trippy! 3 stars because I am still trying to process what happened. So odd to be strolling though the "garden" while looking at the art. I really liked that, though. The little pond and bridge was so unexpected. The main exhibit was quite...ummmm...naked, but I really appreciated the symmetry and natural backgrounds. I didn't get the exhibit in the back room. Must have been beyond my limited artistic sensibilities. But, the indoor garden is definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
I love this art gallery, it's a great place of you need to kill an hour or so when you're waiting for your spot in a brunch restaurant or something. totally intimidating at first but there's basically no workers except 1 or 2 people in a small room so no judgement

Yelp
So, I went here last night for a Fashion Week event curated by Office. Pretty cool space, I thought the layout was alright. Drinks were provided by Stoli, Heineken and Perrier so that was a nice touch. Not sure where all the art was... there were a few big paintings in the back room and a random thing in the middle of the second to last room. The lighting and acoustics from the DJ were really nice. I'd be interested in going back on a normal night when they have an exhibit up.

Yelp
As a big fan of Deitch Projects, I was hoping that this place would have the same atmosphere. Unfortunately, it seems to be lacking something. Pretty much, if you didn't have money, you could have still gone to Deitch Projects to enjoy the "fun" art. Here, the art seems "boring" and only for the rich. Maybe it was just the show I went to but the crowd at the opening seemed too pretentious for me as well. I'll give them another chance at another show in the future since I'm not too far away.
