this place is so cute! 4 floors of stuff to look at, the first being the biggest and most impressive. i thought the numerous christmas trees for december were such a cute touch. the woman at the front desk was very friendly. the only reason it’s not 5 stars is i got through it all in less than 30 minutes which is a bit quick for a $12 (discounted) ticket.

Definitely a must-visit locaction while you're in Hollywood. Probably the best value for any ticket you'll get at $15 to see a bunch of interesting memorabilia and learn a bit of history along the way. I get some of the comments that a bit more detail on some pieces might be nice, but with the volume of stuff they have I can't blame them for not getting to it all. :)

A great museum with a few different levels with different screen used costumes, props and vehicles. Nice and cheap to get in and will take about an hour or two to fully complete. Some great items and history shown in here!

Don’t judge a book by its cover - go inside and discover 1000s of original costumes, props, jewellery and anything else you can think of to do with movies. Every space is occupied and yet it does not seem crowded - everything is given respect - add this onto your list, get your camera ready and have a great time!!

It is worth a visit because of a historical building and original rooms. The museum itself is very chaotic and outdated. Provided information is not systematic, I read everything but didn’t get a clear picture about the history of the Hollywood.

Fantastic museum with some fairly rare props from cinema and TV over multiple levels. Was never expecting to see the baby prop from the 80’s show V. Recommend to anyone who is into cinema and TV to visit while in Hollywood.

Cool place to check out right by the Walk Of Fame. It certainly is must see if you're interested in movies, TV, and more. The Hollywood Museum is full of crap and some good stuff. A place to go to at least once to see the collection. You can find quite a few interesting and fun things. A good location for this close to lots of attractions. It's located in the historic Max Factor Building on Highland at Hollywood. This was the place to get makeup for movies. Cool fact. There's a make up exhibit in the lobby. It's about $10 for adults. This isn't bad for a museum. It has three floors. The basement is where they keep the horror movie stuff. All kinds of fun things like Elvira and Hannibal Lector. Pretty creepy yet fun vibe. On the main floor is quite a bit. There's one of the pairs of the Wizard Of Oz slippers. On the upper floor is more to look at. There's Ghostbusters, TV shows including Mad Men, and the Michael Jackson outfit from We Are The World. Lots up here to look at. The whole museum has enough to look at for maybe an hour. Has quite a bit of history to check out in here. It's also in a historic building so that's pretty interesting. The only bad thing is having to pay to get in but it helps maintain the museum so whatever.

Hollywood history is alive at the Hollywood Museum. At only $15 a ticket, you can get lost in classic Hollywood stories, in the historic, old Max Factor building. Amazing artifacts, original costumes, props, displays and personal effects of many of the most famous films, TV shows and stars of the 'Golden Age' of Hollywood. This is an excellent museum and worth seeing. Even if you don't care for 'Celebrity', the Art-Deco building alone, is worth the price of admission. Four Thumbs Up!!

SUPPORT THIS MUSEUM!!! even though it's a little lame in spots... It is CHOCK FULL of relics & memorabilia! Loved the Christmas Decor for the HOLIDAYS! But... the lame parts are; shoving the CATWOMAN display in a hidden corner where paris hilton's dresses take center stage??? What The Literal F#!£? AND the cat women mannequins have REAL SCULPTED FACES!!! AND AND... whoever did the sculpting DID GREAT!!! and some jacka$$ hid them... btw, lose the lame cardboard faces. They do not work. So in conclusion; SUPPORT THIS MUSEUM! They need the money.

Once I smelled something musty, I knew this museum would be wonderful place to explore. For someone like me who has zero interest in CG made movies, this place is must place to visit. They have three stories on the ground and one underground floor which contains creepy horror archives. Perfect! Makeup artist, Max Factor's beauty calibration machine was traumatic for me and felt like Jigsaw's torture machine. Other than that, everything worth to see it. Go to upstairs washroom. You will find this whole building is heritage. I was so impressed with their effort to keep classical Hollywood's beauty.

I'm not quite sure why this place has so many good reviews. It was okay, and thankfully the admission price was cheap, otherwise I'd be pretty upset. It doesn't seem very accessible as you need to climb a bunch of stairs. I chose to wait on the ground level for my party while the explored around. A lot of things seemed to just be props from movies or replicas in the basement. The Max Factor stuff was pretty neat. I would have liked to have learned more about how he got into the occupation. I ended up reading about him on wikipedia while my party explored the upper levels. Also, it was STIFLING hot. I was shocked there wasn't a gift shop.

If you are a fan of movies and television, both modern and classic, you can't go wrong with this place. Unlike more high profile establishments, such as the Academy Museum, this place is totally focused on the history and sheer joy of the entertainment it celebrates. It feels created and nurtured by true fans and not by any corporate entity. They often change their exhibits, which makes repeated visits absolutely worthwhile. Plus, the price can't be beat! $15 for an adult ticket and there is sooooo much to see! Housed in the classic Max Factor building, the history vibe of the museum, both in setting and content, is massive. An absolute must for lovers of movie and television!! Highly Recommended!!!!

Was trying to kill some time on a recent trip to LA and stumbled upon this place. I love museums so we gave it a shot! The first floor revolved a lot around older Hollywood stars and has lots of things belonging to the Hollywood bombshells over the years (ie Audrey Hepburn). It was huge and a little confusing and honestly not usually what I'm into. The second floor was more movie based. It had tons of props from movies and costumes that were worn. There was something to look at for everyone! The basement was horror themed so was centered around all the spooky horror films and was probably my favorite part of the exhibit. I do recommend checking it out!

If you love old Hollywood, this is the place for you!!! They have different rooms for the different actresses. One room is Lucille Ball. The other room is Marilyn Monroe. They have three levels, and the bottom floor (the basement) is the horror floor. The building used to be the old max factor building, and they have signs throughout and signs in the bathroom that says in 1930 those Max Factor employees use the same restroom. It is nice that they have actors and actress. And even the ones that did not get the recognition like Hattie McDaniel. Please check this museum out. We would not want to lose a gem like this!

This is a museum full of nostalgia. Even if you were unfamiliar with old (and new) Hollywood, it is incredible to just be in such an iconic, historic building. We thoroughly enjoyed our jaunt through each of the four floors and were struck by how much was in the building. They have one of the largest collections of movie memorabilia. It was fun to learn about max factor and how he created make up for all the movie stars. We are incredibly grateful to The Hollywood Museum for the warm Welcome!

If you enjoy old Hollywood glamour and movie memorabilia, this is the place for you. It is located in the historic Max Factor Building, by N. Highland Ave and Hollywood Blvd. If you don't want to hassle with traffic, the Metro B line (Red) Hollywood/Highland stop will leave you right across the street. Super convenient. Tickets are $5 for kids, $12 for seniors and students and $15 for adults. There is a lot to see, make up rooms for Hollywood stars like Marilyn Monroe, costumes, dresses, scripts, movie memorabilia from Star Wars, Planet of the apes, Batman, Back to the future, The Waltons, I love Lucy, Silence of the lambs, horror movies, Rocky, Ghostbusters, a Pointer Sisters exhibit and tons more.

If you love classic movies this place is for you! So many old costumes, props, and memorabilia. It's in the historic Max Factor building which is fun to explore. In one of the rooms they play a short biography on Max Factor and how he came to be the make up artist to the stars. Really interesting place to explore and spend an hour.

When in Hollywood make sure you stop by this Amazing place of what Hollywood is all about. Each floor has alittle bit of everything.

This place is a great little hidden gem in the heart of Hollywood. You won't spend a whole lot of time exploring the area, maybe two hours tops, but you get to see all sorts of cool artifacts from Hollywood's golden age! My favorite was the top floor where you had all the Batman and Back to the Future memorabilia. The main floor was also very fascinating. You had items from Lucille Ball, and Marilyn Monroe (even relics from her death!) the basement was all horror themed and I even got to hang out with Hannibal Lecter! It's a fun date idea if you're ever in the area. Great for movie buffs like myself. Parking is a little complicated, but we had Lunch at Mel's Diner next door and valet parking set us back $20 for the day. Not bad if you're going to be adventuring for the rest of the day. You can also take the Metro, the redline drops you off at Hollywood and Highland.

Don't ask. You should just go to this wonderful museum a few steps away from Hollywood Boulevard in a neat historic building. Reasonable prices. Full-price for an adult is merely $15, and prices are better for seniors (and possibly students? Don't quote me on that!). Friendly, helpful staff. Great collection spread over several floors! Makeup/old Hollywood is the focus of the main floor. Horror is the basement. Other stuff on the two upper floors. There is something for most ages here (I'd say ages 2-3 and up... there are cars and some fun costumes on the upper floors). Perfect place if you have 1-2 hours to spend, but if you're really into this stuff or want to chat with staff, you could easily spend more time.

A little disappointed but still worth seeing. There is nothing more irritating than when we canonize and glorify previous eras as decadent and beautiful, only to let deterioration and neglect reign in all that we do. This museum does a great job is glorifying the age of decadence during the Max Factor years, along with the high life style of the rich and famous when beauty ruled, but there is not much beautiful here now in the 21st century. The front of the building is covered in graffiti, with garbage strewn about, the interior carpets are terribly stained and filthy, the entire place is dusty and generally dirty, the horror exhibit downstairs has old tree bark intermixed with gum wrappers and trash, and the exhibits are consistently dusty and disheveled. A far cry from the age of opulence which this museum touts at every opportunity. The exhibits were interesting enough, but the juxtaposition of the entire experience took away from that. Come on folks, clean your place up.

Smallish but very spirited. If you like old Hollywood, you love this place. Could have spent hours looking at Roddy McDowell's bathroom, and all his personalized autographs displayed there. The building alone was fascinating too. The Ruby Slippers, Marylin Monroe's room, and all the Lucille Ball trinkets. Looking forward to going back. Short walk to Mann's Chinese too. Great stuff.

Sunday February 25, 2024 our group of 8 had a terrific tour of the Hollywood Museum at 1660 N. Highland Bvd. We were there for 2 hours and could have spent another 4+ hours taking in all there was to see and learn. From the Ruby Slippers to Dr. Hannibal Lecter's Cage there were countless memorabilia to reflect on. What a wonderful way to spend some fun time. Richard

My wife and I went to the Hollywood Museum for my 51st birthday. This place went way above my expectations. The artifacts in this museum are amazing. Especially if you are a movie, TV and music buff. This place accents Hollywood Blvd perfectly. After reading all the names on the sidewalk you should come here to learn more about many of those names. We happened to be there when they had a celebrity car show next door with many TV and movie stars!

I came in here on a lark after eating at Mel's drive in. I half-expected a $50 tourist trap, but admission was between $12-15 and was very worth it. Not only is in the already historic Max Factor building, but it's four floors packed with wonderful stuff. One of the highlights being the salon/dressing room used by Marilyn Monroe, complete with her cosmetics and black USO performance dress. They have the Ectomobile, and the entire prison hallway from Silence of the Lambs. There are wigs, set pieces, clothes and memorabilia from so many wonderful classics, old and new. If you are a movie buff, I highly recommend this lovely place.

Old Hollywood is all here for a makeup artist, came here to do some research on a film, it's self tour. Don't forget the upstairs and downstairs areas. Great history!

I just love this museum. Lots of old Hollywood as well as things that are contemporary. It is the best kept secret in Hollywood. I would recommend it to any movie and television fan. It has something for all members of the family Exhibit keep changing as well as permanent exhibit. The absolute best museum in Hollywood!

Any Hollywood fan should stop here. During my early July 2022 visit, it was $15.00 for adult admission. It is worth every penny. The main floor is vintage Hollywood going back to the 1930s and 40s. The floors above had a Batman exhibit complete with the 1966 Batmobile, a deLorean and 4x4 from Back to the Future with a lot of other memorabilia, and a horror exhibit in the basement. We spent a solid hour here and probably could have stayed longer. Definitely a worthwhile visit and you won't be disappointed.

We had a day to go to Hollywood and it was raining so we spent it at this museum . It's classic . The parking is easy right next door and it is attached to Mel's diner .

Some parts of the museum appear slightly dated, but there's still enough magic here to pack a fun and quirky tour for all ages! For $15, it's a worthy 2-hour excursion that brings you fascinating displays of artifacts and memorabilia from Hollywood past. The museum is held in the historic Max Factor building, the cosmetic line that launched the word "make-up" and plenty of products that revolutionized the industry. The first floor hosts the four original Max Factor make-up rooms for the likes of Judy Garland, Lucille Ball, and Marilyn Monroe. It was surprisingly interesting learning about Max Factor's cosmetic philosophy that revolves one's hair colour! The rest of the first floor features a dedicated photo room for old and forsaken studio lots and some exhibits of props from recent science fiction films like Star Wars and Planet of the Ape. While the first floor certainly has the most fascinating narrative, the top floor wraps up my favourite exhibit of props and replicas from the campy but hilarious Batman show from the 60s! It was such a wild jolt of my memories seeing all the colourful costumes and the rare Batmobile that forged my childhood's adventures. Take the stairs to the 2nd floor, adorned with vintage photos and displays of Marilyn Monroe, and of some modern entertainment like attires from Scandal and a wand collection from Harry Potter. Finally, the basement presents the most distinctive, cohesive theme out of all the floors! Comb through the last floor for special showcases of famous movies like Hannibal Lecter. Parking in the neighborhood is always a game, so I definitely recommend taking the Metro Red Line to the Hollywood/Highland exit. Despite the lack of interactive or engaging displays, this museum still beats out the museums in the area as an affordable thrill. Art: 3/5 Exhibits: 4/5 Ambiance: 3/5 Environment: 3.5/5

This museum has the potential to be cool. It really does have some fun Hollywood history. Everything that would be cool to take a picture of is behind glass or a cool costume has a tacky paper cut out of an actors head. Couple that with the displays being super random and over signed. It's just a mess over all. Plus the staff was rude and made all of us feel like we weren't welcome.

This museum has probably seen better days. We went because it was on a couple of lists of things to do in Hollywood, but in our opinion, you can probably skip this one. There are a couple of cool things- some props and costumes from movies and such, but a lot of it could be nicer and better maintained. It's fine, but I don't know if it's worth the time if you have a limited amount of time in Hollywood.

This museum is so gorgeous. I love walking in and seeing the max factor studios right in the front entrance areas where redheads, blondes, and only brownettes can get their make up just made me realize how far we've come, and also being able to see their lipsticks, their foundations, and more in the cases was really really amazing. I went during the Batman 1966 exhibit and I was able to see all of that old pop culture memorabilia. In addition, I saw Hannibal the cannibal's Lair. From dresses worn by Jane Fonda, to accessories worn by Lucille Ball, and champagne and sherry flutes that have been drank out of by Vivien Leigh, in Gone With The Wind, and so much more...this is a must see for anyone on vacation in CA esp if your a movie buff. As a local and returning Californian, this museum restored why CA is in my blood, you won't be sorry.

A very surprisingly and enjoyable museum to visit while visiting Los Angeles. Three levels all with different movie props and movie history. If you're really into older movie history, you'll enjoy all the old photographs. The lower level has lots of in and out rooms to go through. Make sure to go while the Back to the Future stuff is there. Worth it just for that.

By far worth every penny! Located in the Max Factor building! The building is fascinating on its own. The collection is interesting and well kept. If you like old Hollywood you will love this place!

For a $15, you don't get much better - or as close - to an impressive assemblage of Hollywood stardom. Great exhibits feature real and replica props - tons of autographs and memorabilia. Next door to Ripley's, both museums are "can't miss" - even if you call LA home.

Out of all the cheesy tourists museums I have been to for the kids, i have to say this on is the best. This place is much larger and more on display than I expected. And to add the history of location itself adds to it... My favorite part and was not expecting it was the whole silence of the lamb cell block that was great. Dont waste you money at the wax museum or Ripley's just come here if you are looking for something to see....

Pretty cool place with 4 floors of Hollywood memorabilia. I really enjoyed seeing displays from Star Wars, Star Trek, King Kong and Batman all in one place. I found the displays that told the history of Max Factor to be very interesting. My favorite part of the museum was seeing props from the films and movies. I found the displays of old toys to be less interesting and to me it seemed like they were just taking up space that should be used for set pieces, costumes, and such.

Went here while on vacation in LA a few weeks ago! We were looking for something to kill time while wandering on Hollywood boulevard. There were so many different museums but we came here after seeing the decent Yelp star rating! Tickets were only $12 - for students and at it was definitely worth it! I believe they had 4 floors full of stuff and info to look at. And tickets for neighboring museums were 2x the price or more! A lot of the stuff is dated and I didnt know many of the actors/actresses mentioned but it was still fun to see. They did have some modern stuff like the walking dead or hunger games stuff but those were very small displays. My favorite part was definitely the basement! It was super creepy but also fun to look at the creepy horror movies stuff. They even had a dungeon! The marilyn monroe display was also super interesting. One thing about it though is I wasn't sure if the stuff was real or fake - I wish it would tell you in the signs!

While this place has a lot of really cool artifacts on display, there really isn't a whole lot to do here. There's also nothing to take away from this either (no gift shop). I do appreciate that there is a student rate. Moreover, seeing the Jean Harlow exhibit and "Farewell to Earth" portrait was absolutely breathtaking. The Liz Taylor Father of the Bride Dress is also incredible to see, as are costumes worn by Clara Bow and Rudolph Valentino. It was also really fabulous to see Judy Garland's vaudeville costumes from her childhood.

It is located in the old beautiful Max Factor Building on Highland & Hollywood Blvd. It is a little bit off the beaten path sandwiched between Ripley's Believe It or Not & Mel's Drive In Diner so lots of people miss this Treasured Spot. If you are a fan of Marilyn Monroe, Lucy O'Ball, Batman, Judy Garland, The Wizard of Oz, Rocky, High School Musical, Sci Fi & Horror & Scary Monster Movies like Alien, Predator, Friday the 13th, Universal Classic Monsters, Silence of the Lambs & many others you will have hit the JACKPOT in this place. This is a Rotating Museum - some things stay & other things come in & go out. Now is a FANTASTIC Time to visit! They are displaying one of the most iconic pieces of film memorabilia ever. Judy Garland's original RED RUBY SLIPPERS from The Wizard of Oz are on display as well as The LARGEST COLLECTION OF BATMAN MEMORABILIA FROM THE 60s TV Show ever assembled including The Batmobile, Batcycle & Outfits from Batman, Robin & most of the Villains & Props from the Original Set & Merchandise too. The 3rd Story is all Batman & Movie & TV costumes from Harry Potter, The Sopranos, Cher, Carol Burnett, Rocky, High School Musical, Baywatch, Something About Mary, Dynasty, Bette Middler, Shirley Temple, Dancing With The Stars, JLO, Valerie Bertonelli, Betty White, Whitney Houston, Elizabeth Taylor, Liza Minnelli, Sofia Vergara, Jayne Mansfield, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Pee Wee Herman, Laverne & Shirley, Angelina Jolie, It's a Mad Mad World & countless others. I'm born and raised in Southern California and it took a tourist to tell me about this place... probably because its in the heart of the touristy Hollywood and Highland. My friends were visiting from the East Coast and saw this on a tv show and asked me to take them. Located off Hollywood and Highland, next door to Mel's Diner is this little museum. Here's a parking tip: Since it's right around the corner of El Capitan, park at the Hollywood and Highland center and if you can get validated (Ghirardelli will do it). You can park for 2 or 3 hours for $4... Which beats the $20 parking at Mel's! We arrived at 11:30 on a Thursday and walked right in. There's no ticket booth but a woman sitting at a vintage desk. She explained there's 4 levels: the ground floor, the basement and 2 upper levels. This museum used to be the office for make up giant Max Factor, and the items displayed are real artifacts donated by industry people. THE GROUND FLOOR The ground floor had rooms dedicated to the Blonde room, the Brunette room, the "Brownette" room, and a Redhead room dedicated to the most famous mousy brown hair red-head: Lucille Ball. Sorry, no ethnic room like Asian, Latin, or African Americans. It was 1940/50, afterall. There's a room with vintage photos of old Hollywood landmarks, legendary Hollywood stars and vintage media newspapers reporting the rise and fall of Hollywood stars. In addition there are walls covered with hundreds of autographs obtained by self proclaimed "autograph hound" Joe Ackerman, memorabilia from famous pop culture movies like Star Wars, Star Trek, Hunger Games, Rocky, and more. THE BASEMENT: The basement is where the monsters, mummies and mayhem memorabilia were held. You're greeted by Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, and the great horror characters from Dracula, to Psycho contemporary villains from Silence of the Lambs to the Walking Dead. SECOND + THIRD FLOOR The elevator was down so we walked up 3 flights to the Hollywood iconic costumes, from contemporary shows like Dancing With the Stars and RuPaul's Drag Racing, to vintage shows like Beverly Hillbillies, to pop movies like Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Heading down to the second floor was an exhibit of Academy Award nominees, including animation like the Peanuts. There was an statuette of the Academy Award "Oscar" and statues of the Golden Globe. The museum took about 2 hours. They have bathrooms on the 1st and 3rd floor, and they were actual bathrooms used by the Max Factor staff. There's no water fountain and food isn't allowed, but they offer a coupon for 10% off at Mel's next door. The museum is worth a stop, especially if you're a Hollywood film and tv buff.Opened Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00-5:00. Remember, Parking is $20 if you park at Mels. There's street parking if you can find it, or park at Hollywood and Highland. It's $4 for 2 or 3 hours if you get validated at any shop. Hard Rock Cafe and the Ghiradelli's will validate.

Here's how it's going to go down: You're already inundated by a gazillion people along Highland Ave offering things connected with Hollywood--maps, cheesy tourist trap museums, costumed folks, etc. THIS place is the real deal. Totally packed with an insanely large amount of memorabilia and collectibles of thousands of stars, films and TV shows. The lady at the front said this place would take about an hour. No, ma'am...I spent over three hours looking at everything here. The Max Factor rooms could take an hour alone if you read and look at everything. The basement horror collection is a creepy stroll to walk through. The second and third floors took me two hours to go through. I love these hodgepodge-style museums (the Superman museum in Metropolis, Illinois is another), where everything is sort of loosely crammed together. Yes, everything looks a bit dated and slightly dusty, but it's all amazing and a unique find.

I loved the hometown funkiness of this museum. I loved seeing how cheesy so many of the costumes and props are in real life. I loved the individual make-up rooms. It would be so fun if one of them was set up so a visitor might sit at the dressing table surrounded by powder puffs and hair brushes and red lipstick and pretend. There are many artifacts to explore but you do have to bring your own knowledge and love of the movies and TV with you as there is not much in the way of the usual museum historical documentation. The building itself is beautiful and there is a very nice, clean and well stocked restroom on the 3rd floor with a window looking over the boulevard.

This is my second visit here with my first visit being 10 years ago. This is a great museum, but it needs to be updated for 2018. It needs to have more interactive displays, pieces and pictures you can't easily find on the internet and opportunities to take interactive photos maybe in front of different characters and or duplicate costumes. The museum is four floors including the basement and I assume most people could go through all exhibits relevant to them in an hour or two. The basement is exclusive to jail, dungeons, monsters etc. displays, and its decorated to be old and dingy, but I believe it was that way anyways. I wish they really expanded the old time Hollywood exhibits and showcased more old Hollywood glamour pieces and focused less on sci fi, given the overall space of the museum and its rich history. Admission for adults is $15, which isn't too bad, but for what they display inside, the price should be $10 - 12. If this is your first time visiting, it's worth the trip. Unless they make updates, coming back a second time isn't worth the admission price.

This was a highlight of my trip- I was impressed with the amount of items as well as staff who was very nice. If you are into old Hollywood, history of older movies+artifacts you'll love this. There were costumes, a whole room just for Lucille Ball, Marilyn Monroe and a whole basement just for horror. I really loved it AND guess who showed up but Anita Pointer! The Pointer Sisters have a whole floor dedicated to their legacy and although I didn't stop her and chat I kick myself now- you never know who's going to show up here!

This is one of my favorite museums ever, and I go to A LOT of museums! They have some of the best movie artifacts outside of Debbie Reynolds' prior collection, including items belonging to old Hollywood favorites like Marilyn, Lucy, Elizabeth, and Judy, tons of photographs of what Hollywood has looked like through time, and thousands of autographs of pretty much everybody who was somebody back in the day. The building itself used to house Max Factor's salons and factory and was also at one time a vault for the Golden Era Hollywood elite. The old freight elevator is still functioning and was once used to move cars to storage. With multiple floors to explore, so many displays to look at, and descriptions to read, it's easy to spend several hours in here, and if you were to look at and read everything you would be here all day.

The museum was more than I expected. It's in the old max factor building. He did all the cosmetics for Hollywood in the day. They stay with the cosmetics theme which tied it all together. Great stories, fun photos, four floors of old Hollywood costumes etc and inside stories. Even a monster floor. We parked at Hollywood High which was the best price around and fun to get photos. We ate at Mel's Dinner which is part of the same building. From there it's half a block to Hollywood Blvd and the freak show that it is.

What they offered was cool, if you like movies from the 1940s to the 1990s. There was no interactive parts, it was just lots collectors items.

What a little hidden Hollywood gem! I was on tour working the LA Auto Show and took the morning to explore the history of Tinseltown in this 4 story museum. I was staying downtown and appreciated that the museum was literally around the corner from the Hollywood/Highland Stop off the Metro Red Line. The cost of admission was just $15 and even though I arrived 30 minutes before the museum officially opened, the docent let me in so I got to run of the place all to myself for most of my exploration. The first floor features a "For Brunettes Only" "For Redheads Only" and "For Blondes Only" (allegedly the room where Marilyn Monroe herself became a Platinum Blonde.) If you're a Marilyn fan, the museum features a vast array of paraphernalia spanning her life and career: photographs, quotes, her "Million Dollar Dress" she wore in Korea during her Honeymoon with Joe DiMaggio, her famous White Dress (which is displayed to billow to this day,) authentic makeup from her personal collection, copies of the police report covering her death, conspiracy theories and statements from those closest to her and more! Not to mention original costumes and set pieces from The Hunger Games, Star Wars, RuPaul's Drag Race, Mad Men, the original wands from Harry Potter, an immense autographed headshot collection and a movie room featuring the history of Max Factor and how he redefined starlets of early Hollywood through their image. There's also a "dungeon" downstairs where the set of "Silence of the Lambs" now sits. The whole museum took me about 90 minutes start to finish and is well worth the price of admission! It's just a fascinating collection to enjoy - I stopped by Mel's next door for a malted milkshake after!

Really was looking forward to our visit to this museum. It is best to park at Hollywood and Highland and walk around the area. Parking cost of about $15 for the day can be deducted by validation at one of the area merchants, such as Ghirardelli on Hollywood Blvd. - get a free chocolate sample while you are there! The Hollywood Museum costs $15 per adult and is comprised of four floors of exhibits. Many of the exhibits are either period pieces or replicas which is interesting but quite disappointing. At times it is hard to tell what is a legitimate item and what is a replica. Much of the Batman exhibit is replica items -including the Batmobile and the costumes. They could be clearer on what is authentic and what is a replica. Still interesting and will take about 1-2hours to go thru. Okay one time visit that did not live up to expectations.

I am a hard core Marilyn Monroe fan. We came here with a friend and were kindly greeted. I was all but shrieking at the Monroe display alone. Actual makeup cases and cosmetics from the classic starlets. Jewelry and props, the works. The lower level was charming with rooms labeled "Blondes Only" and subsequent rooms featuring brunette and red head starlets. The rest of the museum completely blew me away. It's impossible to list each of the exhibits, but this place has everything. Marilyn's car, Elvira's haunted vehicle, costumes and clothing from Hollywood's elite. I was impressed that there was something for all ages. Brand new displays like The Walking Dead, and old school favorites like The Little Rascals. The horror section is fantastic! It felt like we were transported right into Silence of the Lambs. Real props and costumes. I was not prepared for the museum to be this expansive. I thought it was just going to be a small, 20 minute tour. The admission prices will deceive you, this place is a must for natives and tourists. Will return!

During our day in LA, we came here to kill some time between lunch and dinner (cuz that's how we roll). It was, on the whole, touristy fun for just a few bucks. The price of admission was less than a few of the parking places nearby. The first floor was probably my favorite, not just because it was makeup but because it did a good job of transporting me back to the heydey of the starlets who came to get their makeup done in the Max Factor salon. I wished the tour came with a real time machine to whisk us back to those times!! I would have paid multiples of our admission cost for that! The rest of the exhibits were entertaining but didn't resonate with me as much. They had props from movies but they were oftentimes not from main characters of the movies/shows.Some areas were also closed off. The basement was campy but fun. You just had to chuckle at some of the old, cheesy horror films that were featured. There were a few films where you wondered why they were in this genre. Hmmm. No elevator - you hoofed it up the stairs into the other two floors of memorabilia. Some worthy exhibits included the extended exhibit on Marilyn Monroe and Jean Harlow. I was interested in seeing their tribute to LGBT in showbiz "back then" on the third floor but it was SOOOOOOOO warm up there, we speedwalked through the entire floor and went back downstairs. It was a good way to kill some time and I think we got our money's worth in history that day.

This place is a treasure! Old Hollywood in the old Max Factor building. For those of you too young to know Max Factor, well he was the inventor of makeup back in tha day. Think Mac cosmetics.
