"This cool Mid-City pub is known for its free food during Saints games. It's a relaxed place to drink and play darts. It's also a great place to stop during Endymion when it's Carnival season." - Eater Staff, Stephanie Carter

Google
My favorite NOLA Bar. Drinks are great and reasonable. Truly local and feels like the South's version of Cheers. Play pool, never crowded and good vibes. Highly recommend the frozen green tea. Also, they house Get Your Mom & Dim Sum in the back. Food is outstanding!

Located in Mid-City, The Holy Ground Irish Pub is celebrated for its unique offerings. The atmosphere adopts a laid-back charm, enticing patrons to explore a diverse selection of over 30 high-end whiskeys and bourbons. The one we are selecting from the Holy Grounds selections is Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey.

Google
Wonderful local Irish Pub! I have been here a few times with my friends to play darts and pool. The staff are so accommodating and nice, I asked them to turn down the music in the backroom and they did it so quickly! I was so grateful! The drink selection is wonderful and their beer and shot special is great! The out door seating is fantastic! The food is wonderful and is run by a dim sum third party restaurant. The service is fast and the food is delicious! Wonderful place to chill with friends!

Google
Really good bar conveniently located in front of a Canal St trolley stop. Nice place to stop if you're coming back from the quarter. Lively atmosphere but not rowdy, clientele is diverse and friendly. This was my first time stopping by but was recommended by other friends who had been. Really good burgers in the back with the pool tables. Large bar with plenty of seating though I hear it gets packed out. There are several large tables outside as well. Definitely dog friendly.

Google
Nice local Irish pub , it got a little busy but the barmaid did a great job of keeping up with everyone. Had all 3 varieties of dumplings on the menu all delicious! John (Melbourne Australia)

Kiley Baker

Google
It was a cool spot. I like that it had Irish coffee and allows dogs.

Google
This place is truly a gem. We came in for the national championship game, and they were so accommodating. Prices are fair, too! Madeline was my esteemed bartender, and she did a great job, but the guy who took over for her later was just as awesome. This place has good vibes.

Emily Tutt

Google
Great tap and whiskey selection. 1000% worth a visit for a plate from Get Your Mom & Dim Some in the back corner - amazing NOLA chef cranking out gorgeously crafted Chinese Southern fusion bites 🔥

Yelp
Always pass this place up but I finally stopped & it's going on my Go-To Bars list! I went twice in one day. The bartender remembered me & my order when I went back so I felt extra cool. Cheap drinks, food, pool table, chill & a vibe! Also outside seating and TV! Perfect for game days!

Ella A.

Yelp
We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon. There's a pool table in the back and they are dog friendly. The drinks we had were good (Irish coffees are $7) and priced decently. The staff was very friendly. Street parking.

Darryl C.

Yelp
The energy and people is awesome. The service was great and food was delicious. Even though, there were a wait for the pool table, it was still good entertainment

Kristy B.

Yelp
The least Irish, Irish pub ever. Fun, dog friendly, and a little loud. Pool tables, tvs, darts, and a cigarette machine. Nice selection of liquor and a very experienced and friendly bartender, Ronnie. He made me a tequila drink with rosemary and grapefruit, and we were all amazed at how delicious it was! We'll go back!

Dominic S.

Yelp
Visited Holy Ground last weekend and must say it was a great place to get a drink. I went old school and had a couple of Long Island Teas. They were great. By the way, don't sleep on the food.

Ashley S.

Yelp
This would normally be an outstanding review But.... The lady working tonight was the absolute rudest Shame on the owners for having her be the face of their business Awful awful awful service and on top of everything the food was cold Not coming back anytime soon Way better burgers in Nola than to be treated like this

Brian O.

Yelp
Sadly, first time at this place in about 5 years, and there to eat. It was about 7:30 pm on a Wednesday. I was at the food counter to order and asked the young short haired blondish woman what the bison chicken sandwich was about. Her immediate and offhand response was to wave at the menu on the wall and say "it's all on the board". We'll, since it was a special, it was not on that board. I then replied, I'll have the Brussel sprouts instead. Her response was that it will take a long time. The conversation was brief. I asked 2 questions; no one else was in line; the bar had perhaps a dozen customers and so it's not like it was a smashed Saturday night. What an incredibly and unnecessarily obnoxious person to work behind a counter. I walked out. IL wait another 5 years....

David G.

Yelp
The double queso burger is mind blowing. Gonna have to try the chopped chicken next, bc man that was so good.

Richard R.

Yelp
The bartender was extremely friendly and welcoming. The drinks were cheap and tasted great (we got the Irish Coffee and Hot butter rum). We aren't into sports, but there were plenty of TV's to watch the Saints game that was playing. Worth a try if you are passing by, I really enjoyed it.

ReNee V.

Yelp
I had the frozen eggnog, and it was the absolute strongest frozen drink I've ever had. It was so tasty and for such a good value All of their other signature drinks seemed super yummy as well

Yelp
A few years ago ownership changed and The Holy Ground is now acquired by the same group that owns Bayou Wine & Beer Garden. At first I was skeptical about a new crew and possible changes to prices, but thankfully they realized the value of the existing regulars and that abrupt changes would disrupt the loyalty of their customers. (Pretty sure prices only increased on certain items by only 50 cents.) Since then, they invested in new glassware, gave the place a fresh paint job, added TVs outdoors for sports, added beautifully stained picnic tables, built a GORGEOUS group sized booth and expanded their tap selection. Additionally, the kitchen is now run internally rather than contracted/leased out and the Irish staples like Shepherd's Pie remain. Most importantly they retained their bar manager John L. who not only knows everyone and treats them like family, but gives his blood, sweat and tears to ensure the success of the bar and his staff.

Yelp
This is a great place to meet up with your friends in mid city! Like beer? They have plenty of options on tap as well as many can and bottle options. Like really good, yet reasonably priced cocktails? They have those too! I ordered the bramble (only seven dollars!) and it was sooo tasty. I also ordered the Jucifer (a local beer by gnarly barly) and, as always, it was delicious. There is ample picnic table seating outside if you're looking to come with a larger group as well as plenty of space inside. The inside has the standard irish bar decor but its a lovely environment for a nice after-work weeknight drink. While I didn't order any food during my last visit, I did check out the menu and there are several tasty-sounding options. I look forward to ordering the totchos during my next visit. Overall - 5/5 stars.

Yelp
I sincerely just had one of the best meals of my life...and it was at this random dive bar in MidCity. I was not expecting this at all. Okay true story, I was just coming from Finn McCools because the music got weird and it was no longer my scene. I saw this place on my Maps and it said "Irish pub" so I thought I'd give it ago. I called ahead to see what the crowd would be like, and the employee who answered the phone could not have been more hospitable and accommodating. I came in and found a table to camp out. I walked up to the bar and was pleasantly surprised at the authenticity and professionalism of the bartenders. I was doing some work on my computer and such when I realized how hungry I was. So I decided to go up to the food window, expecting mediocre, typical pub fare. I was surprised to find that the food at this pub is actually provided by the same people who do Wakin' Bakin' Cafe on Magazine! Which, of course, is a delight all on its own. Like I said, I did not have high expectations at all and was expecting normal, so-so pub fare. Boy was I mistaken. The BLT with an over-easy egg and side of onion rings was PHENOMENAL. It hit every button. The remoulade alone was amazing. It was hot and fresh and more than I expected. I like the bar but I LOVE the food. I am coming back again soon.

Yelp
Solid neighborhood bar. It's pretty spacious so it's a good place to hangout with friends or watch a game. Bartenders have always been good to acceptable for me. They serve food in the back so that's always a plus for me. Go for a beer or a basic cocktail, nothing frou-frou. This establishment was hit hard in the SM wars a couple of years ago so take any negative reviews with a grain of salt, many were obviously written by someone who has never been there. Parking is on the street. And make sure you're parked legally and not blocking anyone's driveway.

Sue H.

Yelp
This place was wonderful. Unsure of what time they open because their website said 2pm and 4 pm so we figured we would try. And they were open. Local place with cheap pours of Guinness. Very clean and interesting decor. Friendly bartender and friendly locals eating chili with flamin hot Cheetos. They do offer food but I think only for supper hours according to their menu. Loved our time here.

Jay S.

Yelp
This is one of those rare places that gets everything right. Every bartender here is personable, friendly, and professional. They treat regulars and newcomers the same. The music selection is always diverse and never too loud. The world would be a better place if there were more bartenders like there are here. Highly recommended.

Robert P.

Yelp
Every town and city has their local shot and beer joint some are friendly some aren't. This is probably one of tops and I've bartended and been on the other side . Yet the bonus is the tourist pay what the locals do . No need to thank the locals they don't care nor should they. Don't be an ass and also enjoy great food out of the kitchen ( you order at the window . Bonus they bring out the food. Best bang for your buck . Koodos to Mother Mary and their reverence for Jamo! If you don't know Jamo find another bar!

Pinkie F.

Yelp
Its a very friendly spacious bar with locals and a great Shepherd Pie. The drink prices are reasonable. Its a bar you can enjoy by yourself or with friends.

Marielle S.

Yelp
This isn't a bad little hangout. If I lived in the area, I would definitely give it more stars, but since it's a little out of the way and not really worth the drive time, 3 stars it is. This dimly lit bar caters mostly to neighborhood folks. The bar is a good size and the crowd is lively and fun. When I went, I didn't stay very long but I see that there is a nice group of regulars that hang out here. The bar was pretty smoky, but since the smoking ban kicks in on April 22nd, that's not a huge issue. I'd come back if I were in the area, but I would go out of my way.

Peter N.

Yelp
Great local bar Good pricing. Friendly atmosphere and patrons. Didnt eat anything, just had drinks and conversation. I liked it.

Mickrod S.

Yelp
Eh, kind of pretentious hipster bar, but if you live in the neighborhood, they are ok with you if you pass the "application". thats people judging you, and whether or not the locals like you or not. But, I LOVED THIS PLACE. They were really excellent to me, had to tone me down, but eventually made me feel welcome. (Well, shit i was spending money. Right?) At some points i felt like I was trying to join the free masons to be okay there.....then i reminded myself....its a bar. Old man and the little kitchen pumps out some good stuff. I'll miss it. I miss everyone. Mikey for Mayor Peace and love, Sincerely, Stewd

Yelp
Worst service I've ever had! It took me 30 minutes to order a drink, the bartender straight up ignored me several times. I had to move to a different part of the bar and literally beg her to make me a drink. Later, I decided to order food. I waited about ten minutes then two girls who ordered after me got their food. I watched the cook go to the bathroom and then come out, cough into his hands, and then put up a back in 5 sign. He left and hasn't come back. I've been sitting here for ten minutes. Still no food...

Yelp
Things that I love about this place: -It's in Mid-City. -It's within a close driving range to home after some adult beverages. -They have Smithwick's on draft. -They serve Tullamore Dew (our favorite Irish Whiskey). -I always know SOMEone there (either sitting at the bar or working behind it). The #1 reason I don't come here more often: -It is SO freakin' smokey that just walking in the door and ordering a beverage to enjoy outside (where I can actually breathe) leaves my clothes SO stinky that I have to strip down the second I walk into my house. :-(

Kimberly J.

Yelp
Excellence in mid-city!! Great drafts including locals and Magic Hat! YUM!!! AWESOME BARTENDERS!!! Great artwork on the walls, friendly faces at the bar. Delicious food on special occasions. This is an awesome addition to the midcity bar circle!!

Katie S.

Yelp
Had a lovey time! Loved hanging out with the regulars... got to meet the famous Annie! Lauren was an amazing server and we really enjoyed talking to her :) Will definitely be back!! Great friendly welcoming atmosphere.

Christopher W.

Yelp
Great location with a good bar serving Guiness and good food. I had a french fry Shepherds Pie that was great. On the menu its cheese fries with beef debris. Bike parking and chairs outside on good weather days, very good bar.

Renee B.

Yelp
This is a very cool Irish bar in NOLA!!! Great happy hour specials & for those who want the best whiskey- they have them all & reasonably priced!!! We were lucky enough to get John & he was fantastic!!! It started to get really busy but he was on it!!!

Garick G.

Yelp
Back when I was young and jobless, this place used to keep me well liquefied without having to spend too much. Due to it's size, the Holy Ground is great for groups. ("So much room for activity.") It's a pretty chill spot, but can turn up on a dime. We hit this place hard post-Endymion 2013, and even into the late hours Holy Ground was happy to have us. It has been a year or two, but I heard the pop-up restaurant Edible Alchemy no longer runs out of the bar. To me, this damages the overall allure of Holy Ground. On most nights it was the food that brought me here and the beer that got me to stay. Overall, I think it's worth a visit. Is it a must-stop for tourists? Nuh uh. But it's a damn decent neighborhood bar with plenty of space and a savory(ish) crowd.

Sarah W.

Yelp
It's a local bar. It was quiet when I went being that it was a wed night. Place has 2 pool tables and dart to play with. People were pretty friendly but I also think New Orleans people are friendly in general. I had orders some foods, one being the Mac n cheese ... OMG .... delicious!!!! It's not your normal Mac and cheese but what ever they did to it, it was so good. Drink prices are pretty cheap. Shots are huge... like 2 shots in one shot glass so that was great!!! Definitely a chill spot.

Clemente C.

Yelp
This place has deep seated punk AF roots. They're as welcoming as any place in the world provided you don't come in and try to wreck the place or ruin the vibe. They've been around for a few years now and have quietly become a favorite haunt of service industry lifers and those seeking to soak up some real New Orleans ambiance. Don't let any one steer you wrong this place is legit and awesome.

Chris S.

Yelp
This is the local honey hole. Great place to sit back and chill out with your buds, have a beer and relax. Been coming here for the last year and a half. Its dark inside but thats perfect for this place. They have two pool tables and some dart boards available that are normally not crowded on until the rush hour on friday and Saturday nights. Smoking is limited to outside now due to the new smoking ordinace. Food is available. The kitchen cooks up some pretty tasty treats. I would advise getting the Scottish Eggs. who can resist deep fried bacon wrapped hard boiled egg? lol Staff is wonderful. They work their tails off and do their best to get you served just be patient sometimes. It can get pretty overwhelming when they are not expecting a huge party to show up with only one bartender. However they still seem to pull it off. If you are going to be around for Mardi Gras this is the spot to be since it's right on the coner of Canal and Jefferson-Davis. Floats pass right on by the place. you get there early enough, you will have front row view. Then after the festivities go back to the party inside. Its a $10 dollar min on a card.

Geoffrey G.

Yelp
I've never had a bad time at this bar. The staff is knowledgeable and polite. Great beer selection and good prices. The kitchen had great food and there's free food for Saints games.

Roxy S.

Yelp
This is my favorite bar in the whole city! Good atmosphere. Love the bar staff and plenty of the locals go here to hangout. Darts and pool and the bar food is good also. Holy Ground is the best!

Christopher L.

Yelp
Contrary to popular belief, my experience here was not a good one. The patrons were very rude and disrespectful and the manager did ZERO to curtail their behavior. In fact, it was encouraged. My wife and I came here to quaff a few brews and were automatically lumped in with group from across the street. We were indeed refused service. Maybe I'll give them a second chance and maybe I won't. There are thousands of other bars in the city that are more deserving of my hard earned dollars.

Peter B.

Yelp
I've been coming to this bar to meet up with friends over drinks for years. It's always a diverse crowd. All walks of life. That's why I love it. Just a great spot to grab a drink and relax. Super friendly staff, great drink prices and I always seem to leave with more friends than I had walking in.

Greg C.

Yelp
This bar is awesome. Friendly staff! Good selection of beers and whisky, along with some great food from the kitchen! Makes this a must stop, in Mid-City

Logan S.

Yelp
I always have a blast here. Nothing but great customer service and great drinks. I will be coming by more often to show support to a great Mid City business.

Katherine L.

Yelp
This is a great pub right on the streetcar line. Local characters, darts, pool and great food.

Lil L.

Yelp
Love everything about this place. I always feel right at home almost like its my living room, in fact we do watch Saints games here during the season. One of the best Guinness pints in the city. Perfect neighborhood bar to just unwind and not have to worry about how your dressed, as I often come right after work.

Curt S.

Yelp
Awesome place to grab a few drinks and play darts. The staff is always friendly and make the customer feel at home. One of my favorite neighborhood spots! I hope it never changes.

Amelia R.

Yelp
Fantastic bar with excellent service! Great local handout, the drinks are cheap and cold.

Holly G.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place for two reasons: 1) The theme and 2) it's so close to my house. But I couldn't. I gave it two tries and that'll probably be it. There's really not much to the place; a few pool tables and TV's, the bar, and some tables. It's pretty dark unless you're by the pool tables. It's really smokey. The clientele is younger and of the punk/goth variety. That's ok, but I was thinking this would be more of a straight up dive bar and less of a hipster hangout. Service was meh. Maybe I'll give it one more try during the day.

Hungry B.

Yelp
This place always saves the day when in need. Good beer selection, super nice staff, plus a great view of the parkway (except for the statue) and canal streetcar line. So proud to share a neighborhood with such good people.

Jason K.

Yelp
Love this new bar. It's an up and coming irish bar where the old Dixie Taverne once was. (The pole in the middle of the room is still there) My wife and I ventured into this bar not too long after it opened and became fans almost immediately. The ambiance is fresh and new as such with most new bars. Not a lot on the walls yet but I'm sure this bar will be gaining a personality real soon. (Saints season is in full effect and Mardi Gras is right around the corner) Nice selection of local and imported draft beers such as Tin Roof and Guinness respectively. The staff are nothing short of awesome and friendly. They always make sure your pint glass isn't empty for long. The crowd there are mostly mid 20's to early 30's so it's my kind of crowd. They also have a few pool tables and dart boards and one time I even saw a 1000 piece puzzle on one of the tables just begging for some folks to sit down and figure it out. All in all, it's a great bar to stop by for a pint and I have high hopes for this bar in the very near future. If you stop by and Danny or Lesley is working, tell 'em Jason and AJ said hey!

Carl M.

Yelp
Great staff, great prices, great atmosphere! So glad this bar is here and supported by local patrons!

Teresa B.

Yelp
Great local bar. They pour a perfect Guinness. Some folk who aren't from around here and don't know how to act (bless their hearts) might not like it, but those of us in the neighborhood love & appreciate this local treasure.

Brandi T.

Yelp
Lovely little pub in the middle of the city. Stopped in this afternoon while running errands to enjoy a few beers with my fiancé. The bartender was absolutely lovely, and we will definitely be going back soon!

Joyce B.

Yelp
Love this place- love the service! Friendly folks, good vibe, good prices. Great location!!

Christopher N.

Yelp
I like this bar. It has been open a little less than 2 months. As such, it has yet to gain a personality. The space is great, but as the previous reviewer stated, the cement floors( not tile) are VERY discomforting. The juke box is pretty solid, and a GIANT + for not being an Internet Jukebox, one of the worst inventions of the 21st century. What The Holy Ground needs is to find a way to feel comfortable. There is not enough stuff on the walls, and most of it is just a mish mash of stuff, again, no personality. The chairs and tables are standard pub tables, I.E. not very comfortable. Which would be fine if the floor and the room were comforting, but since they are not, it all becomes a bigger problem. There is no food here, although apparently they will serve food during Saints games. Smoking is allowed. Give them some time, probably a looooong time, and I think it will be a Great bar, but for now, it seems a very promising start. Should they get a Dart Team together, I will surely be on their team.

Cathy C.

Yelp
It always happens. Eating out on vacation nearly every meal is hard work, and eventually we just need a sammich at the house. Out of groceries, I offered to make the two-block walk to The Holy Ground. It's a classic neighborhood watering hole. There's a bar and tables up front, you order food and play darts in the back room-apparently darts are a very big deal to the clientele here judging from all the awards on the wall. If the dark interior isn't for you, there are several tables on the sidewalk, which were always populated the week we were there. Back to lunch. I stepped up to a window in the back room and the cook took my order. He was incredibly friendly, asked where I was from and where I was staying, agreeing that Mid City is a great part of town. So into the conversation was he, that he apparently didn't hear my entire order...I got home with only one sandwich/salad combo instead of two, and avocado was missing from the other. It wasn't a huge deal, I wasn't charged for the missing stuff, and with the Zapp's we had at home it was enough food. Just disappointing. The food itself was good; I don't remember the name of the Tuscan-chicken type sandwich, but the meat was moist and the dressing was really good. The salad was simple, but the Creamy Thyme dressing was so good I've vowed to try to recreate it here at home! So, not a perfect experience, but I fell in love with Mid City, so I'll likely be back!
