What to Eat at the Twin Cities’ Juneteenth Celebrations - Eater Twin Cities

"The Hook and Ladder Theater is hosting a Soul of the Southside Juneteenth Festival on Sunday, June 19 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Beyond the live music, poetry readings, speakers, live art, and Black-owned business marketplace, the festival will also be a hotspot for great food: Official Fried Chicken, Soul Bowl, and DuNord Social Spirits will be present." - Justine Jones

Went to see Chastity Brown. Great concert, perfect intimate venue for it. Nice drink selection with decent pricing. Highly recommend.

The show tonight was a fantastic experience with a great atmosphere. Everyone here is friendly and fun, making it even more enjoyable. Plus, there are plenty of businesses to check out, adding to the overall experience. Definitely worth a visit! All the pretty horses was amazing.

Great venue for intimate performances with very talented acts. Reasonable ticket and drink prices. Check out The Bong Show for a good laugh here once a month on Sunday nights or a ton of other talented acts from Twin Cities local talent pools and a number of national touring acts. Great spot.

Very chill place to see an intimate concert. Great staff, free parking and there is a record shop next door. We went to see Trailer Trash's Trashy Little Christmas Show. It was awesome. Costume contest and great music. So much fun.

Im not a big concert person so this venue was amazing. It’s a place to enjoy live music for a good price at a nice volume that does not make my ears buzz after. I went for the Danielle Nicole concert, which was great!

The Cornell 77 celebration last night was absolutely mind blowing!! The entire band played their hearts ❤️ out for 3 hours to an audience of super Grateful Deadheads who maybe didn't attend Cornell 77, but we were treated to night of incredible music 🎵 expertly played by bandmates on the same wavelength, a trick that can't be faked, it's real, comes from experience (purple haze?) and love, along with kind spirits. I can't say thank you enough. All staff were super helpful and the kind of people you enjoy being around. Blessings on you all !!!!

My first visit to Hook & Ladder to hear the Belfast Cowboys here. Music wasn't too loud to need ear plugs. Full crowd, lots of dancing, friendly staff.

This space is an old firehouse and has been an entertainment venue and community hub for quite some time! Minneapolis is lucky to have such a place to hold it down. It has surrounding surface lot area to have outdoor festivals and events and is really a unique spot you won't often see the likes of most places. They often have a food truck or two at events, and there are a variety of nearby options as well for food.

Yelp
Halloween 2024 - Service at bar was top notch. Ambiance was stellar. Bathroom was clean.

Yelp
We went to the Hook and Ladder on a Friday night this fall to hear some jazz and the theater is really cool! They had standing room and a dance floor up by the stage, some cocktail tables in the middle of the floor and some more standing room in the back, plus seating on the sides and in the lobby. The acoustics in the whole place are fantastic! They sell Heggie's pizza if you are hungry and they have a large selection of cans and bottles of THC drinks and beer. The staff were professional, quick, attentive, and welcoming. I'd go for a show again for sure!

Yelp
This is such an awesome intimate music venue and event space! I've been to a few events here now, and each time it's a blast. At this recent event, they had live music in the main theater room, love jazz afterwards in their smaller Mission Room, and a live artist, food, and more in their back room. They also have an outdoor space where the event had a food truck and second bar which was awesome! They sell beer, seltzer, THC beverages and gummies in the main room, and there's a full bar in the other room. Such a great space to enjoy live music!

Yelp
This is one of our favorite venues for local music! The Hook and Ladder has it all from drinks, THC products, vintage shopping, music, and great staff! Their security (SeQUEERity) goes above and beyond to keep people safe and provide a good experience. Their volunteer force that keeps events running means there are always a lot of local music fans at every event that care about keeping the scene fun and friendly. Their variety of shows is awesome with acts ranging from metal to bluegrass with everything inbetween. Their drinks are very reasonable for a concert venue with a wide variety of options available including lots of local beers and THC beverages (only thing they don't have is lemonade if you're a vodka lemonade lover!). They additionally offer THC products including gummies, chocolates, and many unique savory snacks like pretzels that are medicated as well. The staff in the THC lounge is always more than happy to answer questions and offer advice as well. This place is a must-stop for any local music enjoyer! Additionally, if you're hungry they often have a taco truck parked outside that is phenomenal as well :)

Yelp
Hookstock was very disappointing. Too long,, too many breaks, overpriced weak drinks and who wants to hear Dolly Parton and someone who totally butchered Hendrix cover version of the Star Spangled Banner. Ugh.

Yelp
We've been to Hook & Ladder a few times since we recently moved back to the Twin Cities, and it's quickly become our favorite live music venues. They have two different venues under one roof - the Mission Room, holds about 100 people, and the Theater and Lounge, which holds about double that. Nothing fancy but it's clean, safe, comfortable, with very reasonably priced tickets. Acoustics are good and we've seen some talented local (and regional) independent acts who perform their own original music.

Yelp
Great ambience for listening to music performances. Cocktails are reasonably priced. Staff are friendly.

Yelp
They had a pretty nice Juneteenth concert. The Place feels equal parts grungy and hippie. Probably a lot of culturally relevant and significant concerts happen in this space.

Yelp
Local live music, great acoustics, artists that aren't at any other venue, independent, local. I won 2 tickets for the #Microshow with Valerie June..my only problem was which friend I could invite. The pre-theatre lounge event and performance were phenomenal! Thank you!

Yelp
I've been to many shows since this place first opened and I appreciate that it actually is a thing. The people who do the work and booking really bring in all sorts of music. Sight lines are fantastic. The sound wonderful and sometimes, you may even get to see an intimate show on the small stage. Sometimes, it can get a little crowded but that will happen when it is a popular performer. If you haven't been, it's time to change that.

Yelp
This is a shockingly friendly place to see a show. I went during the summer to see a friend play outdoors, and immediately regretted not having been there before. The bouncer Michael treated me like an old friend. I watched kids dancing and riding on their parents' shoulders. Everyone there seemed joyful and chill. I couldn't stop exclaiming to my friends, "This is a really friendly place!" Now I'm telling you. Go there.

Yelp
i cannot stress enough how amazing the security staff was tonight. went here for our friends band's show on new year's eve and my other diabetic friend had high blood sugar and started feeling really bad. we decided to go outside to get fresh air and they asked how we were doing and brought a chair out and gave my friend a water for free. i couldn't thank them enough for all that they did for us. seriously go here because the staff is incredible

Yelp
I went to the recent Prohibition swing night. As a venue, this is a pretty cool set-up! I hadn't been to the theater when it was Patrick's, so I was excited to check it out. Staff were welcoming, and the beverage selection (alcohol and NA) was great. The foyer was clean and well-decorated, and the dance floor and stage area was cool as well. For a dance, the floor was pretty dang crowded, so much so that dancing any kind of swing was tough. I can see why the lessons were primarily Balboa. The night was really more about the music and the dressing up, anyways, so I can forgive it. I'm interested in going back for a live show or performance.

Yelp
I really like seeing shows at the Hook & Ladder. It's a little more relaxed and definitely more unique than a lot of the music venues in town. So first of all, it's pretty intimate. Once you make your way inside, the room is pretty long and narrow. But it's really divided into a few sections. If you want to just chill and chat with your friends, hang in the back where there is a more loungy feel (and you are closer to the bar). There IS a smaller stage back there, and often someone will play while gear is being set on the main stage. So there could still be music back there. Then if you push your way forward, you'll enter the main room, where there is a slightly larger stage and an open floor. As an old lady with back issues, I am also very happy here because there is a row of folding chairs along the side of the room for those of us who can't stand that long. I also love the sunset backdrop they often use on the main stage - it makes for lovely photos. The acoustics are good, the staff is friendly, and you're right in a cool part of town around the corner from Denny's and not too far from the Hi-Lo Diner if you need a late-night bite.

Yelp
This place is great but don't expect to get a glass of water if you're the sober driver for anything less than $4. They should have water for people.

Yelp
I love this venue !!! my aunt wanted a celebration of life when she passed. The staff were extremely friendly and compassionate. The venue looked beautiful, the way she would have loved her life celebrated. Thank you Chris.
