The Hornet - Review - Pacific Heights - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The Hornet is a deli in the back of London Market in Pacific Heights. The sandwich spot has rotating specials—expect french dips, chicken caesar wraps, and breakfast sandwiches with mushrooms, bell peppers, and onion." - Julia Chen

A local favorite! Cool little sandwich shop nested in The London Market. High quality ingredients, great portion size and a really nice staff. I got the “Spicy Carlo” with fresh Acme bread and Molinari meats. The menu rotates weekly - this week they also had the “Crabby Patty” and the “Chicken Caesar Wrap”.

Hands-down the best sandwich I’ve ever had in SF, and I love sandwiches. This place opened up around the corner from us and we finally tried it today. We’re already planning the next day we’ll go back! All ingredients are insanely fresh & high quality. Limited menu of 3 sandwiches of the day plus a yummy cold-pressed juice. I’d drive across the city for this place. Only downside is that the tables outside are permanently in the shade and it’s chilly.

Had a wonderful chicken salad sandwich. Fresh ingredients and the bread was soft and yummy! Great sandwich. Menu changes, but the chicken Caesar they always have. I’ll try that next! Try them out! Great experience. Owner, Kevin, is very passionate about making the best sandwiches ever!

One of the best hidden gems in the city. London Market is an awesome high end liquor store with only top notch selections and The Hornet is in the back making a rotating menu of delicious sandwiches. So far I've tried the BLT, a chicken sandwich (forgot the name), and the chicken Caesar. All of them are great. High quality breads and meats. The 2 staff are super friendly too! One of the best sandwiches in Pac Heights no doubt.

I got the “Carlo” which was an excellent Italian sandwich with everything on it. The sandwich was huge and I saved half for later. I can’t wait to see what other sandwiches KT comes up with in the coming weeks. I’ll be back!

I won’t deny that the sandwiches are good. The ingredients are fresh and top quality, the sandwiches are assembled well and don’t fall apart into a mess, and overall they make a fantastic sandwich. But I think the prices are outrageous for the quantity of food and the service you get. The spicy Carlo sandwich I got didn’t look anything the pictures from the other ”reviews.” The two guys working there didn’t seem thrilled that I was coming in to spend over $20 on a small sandwich. As a small business owner in San Francisco, I understand the exorbitant cost of running a business in the city. But I think the Hornet needs to offer something more in order to justify their prices. Maybe throw in a $0.25 snack size bag of chips from Costco or a pickle spear 🤷‍♂️. Regardless, I still think it’s worth trying their food. It truly is delicious!

Yelp
First time at the Hornet for some lunch this past weekend, and this place is a hidden gem, and dare I say it, the best chicken Cesar wrap I've had so far in the Bay! Located inside of London Market, this sandwich shop has daily/rotating menus available Thursday through Saturday from 11:30 till sold out. We arrived after Noon, and they had already sold out of their Tri tip, so we went with the chicken Cesar wrap and the Spicy Carlo which was an Italian sandwich, that was loaded with Italian cured meats, cheese, cherry tomatoes and a spicy mayo for an extra kick. As I mentioned earlier, the chicken Cesar wrap was the star of the show. Good amount of chicken, really good Cesar dressing, and everything id want and more. We've eaten a lot of these wraps this year (at various spots), and this one is at the top of our list. The Spicy Carlo was good but wasn't my favorite. I'm not a huge fan of cherry tomatoes and I thought it kind of dominated the flavor of the first few bites, so I ended up picking them out. The portion size was good, the toasted/pressed bread added a nice crunch. While it was good, not sure if I'd order again only because the wrap was so tasty and since they have a rotating menu, I'd look forward to trying their other creative creations first. We tried ordering from their website before we got there, but it wasn't showing as anything available so we just walked in and ordered. The staff behind the counter were really sweet and they were able to get our sandwiches out in less than 10 minutes. They set up a few high top tables outside if you'd like to eat there as well. If you are a sandwich and wrap lover like me, I definitely think this spot is worth checking out. The prices were around $17-18. A quality lunch for two for under $40. Definitely go earlier in the day to avoid the potential of making the trip and being sold out.

Yelp
Amazing sandwich. They are currently in the back of a wine shop. Great wine and beer selection, but that's beside the point. They have some great sandwiches. The service is friendly and great and guiding. Grab and go place, nowhere to eat but who cares. Nice shop that is clean. I got the Spicy Carlo and it was fantastic. The meat was shaved, veggies fresh, focaccia spongy with great bite. Everything was in great proportion. High quality ingredients for a high quality sandwich. Would love to eat all of their everything.

Yelp
Preordered the tri tip sando for pickup. The sandwich counter is conveniently located in the back of London Market. It was ready early, nicely packaged and I was thanked. The sando seemed to be toasted in a panini press, the steak was sliced to perfection and everything had proper proportions including the red pepper and chimichurri sauce. A+ and I will return to try the crab sando

Yelp
Excellent sandwich! Hit all the buttons...delicious flavors, fresh ingredients (that tomato!! ), kind service. Nice little spot in the back corner of London Market...well worth a trip. Will be a new neighborhood favorite.

Yelp
Walked into London Market for a fine bourbon and walked out double fisted with a bottle and tasty sandwich from The Hornet!
