Where To Drink With Coworkers In The Garment District

"If you’re with a group that extends beyond your actual office friends, Houndstooth Pub is a good choice - it’s large and loud enough for a non-awkward experience. Plus, it’s close to Penn Station, and you can make reservations. Come during Happy Hour (every day until 7pm), when cocktails and bar snacks are $8, and take over a few high tops near a TV. It’ll be like your department does this kind of thing all the time." - hannah albertine, bryan kim, matt tervooren

Where To Drink With Coworkers Who Are Almost Your Friends

"The dream: you like your coworkers enough to travel from Midtown to Bushwick and do something unusual like tap your own cider. The reality: you want to get home at a decent hour and you don’t care too much where you drink with these people (as long as you can sit). So come to this Garment District spot during Happy Hour, when you can get sangria for $8 and discounted bar snacks. There are usually sports on here, too, if that’s a selling point." - hannah albertine

We stopped in for dinner near our hotel and were pleasantly surprised. Quick service despite busy, noisy atmosphere. Although the bar was large and centre the food was not average pub food. Crispy fish and chips and a steak sandwich served in a light airy bread. Definately worth it!

Google
We live just around the corner and wanted to check out the local dining scene. We arrived around 3 pm, so it was relatively quiet. We ordered fish and chips, penne alla vodka, and the Cesar salad. The food was delicious, and the portions were generous. Perhaps the pasta was slightly overcooked, but not everyone prefers it al dente. Our overall experience was quite enjoyable. The service was friendly and professional.

Google
We've seen this place every time we go to a New York Rangers and finally decided to try it, and it's a great place to eat before or after a New York Rangers game at Madison Square Garden. The food was great, and the drinks were good as well. Our bartender was awesome. He made sure that at no point that our drinks were ever empty. Every time he was low, he would come over and see if we wanted a refill, which my partner and I much appreciated. The food came out quickly and was delicious. We will come back there the next time we go to a New York Rangers game at Madison Square Garden.

Went for a very late dinner at around 9.30pm. There were still a lot of people. Business looked good. Food should therefore be good too. We ordered fish & chips which was not quite the same as those in Britain. The fish was nevertheless fresh and tasted quite good even though the batter was not the same as those in Britain. We also ordered onion soup which unfortunately we could not consume as it was very salty. The pasta was good. The service was excellent.

Google
Nice atmosphere, and fun place. Food was ok. My son had the curry chicken and he wished it was spicier. I had the Manchester sandwich which was also good. The buffalo chicken wings were the best because they had the most flavor (and I was hungriest when I ate them). It’s a good place to eat if you happen to be in the area.

Google
We stopped to have a bite to eat and drink as close to our hotel and had a lovely meal. I had the brisket pulled burger and it was huge and delicious. All food was good and served quickly too.

Google
Cool looking Pub, nice to watch a soccer game with friends. Pub kinda food. The beer on top wasn't cold enough for my liking. Good vibe.

Google
This was our first restaurant on our trip to NYC, and we found it by sheer luck, but we LOVED it! Seeing as my husband is a Brit, we decided to go for the Fish n' chips and hope for the best, but we were both pleasantly surprised - it was a little expensive, but it's NYC! And you got a lot for your money. According to my husband (who knows his Fish n' chips!), it was pretty close to what you get in London, and very tasty! The staff were also super friendly - We would quite happily go there again!

Yelp
Conveniently a few blocks away from MSG, this was a great option for my group to grab a few drinks and apps before a concert. Appetizers were all pretty tasty! Unfortunately the waitstaff were not very friendly and did not seem to have great communication among themselves so I'm unsure if we'd return. We seemed to upset a waitress after a different waiter sat us at a table and she continuously told us we could not use that table and she was going to grab her manager after we've already ordered food.
google avatar

Vivian G.

Yelp
Not my 1st time here, its ny preferred pub when I'm in the area or going to MSG. The staff is really great, they're always very accommodating. Happy hour Cosmos! Sign me up! They were fantastic. We ordered wings and guac&chips as we were just last minute snacking before heading home. But I've never had a bad anything here & the prices are just right.

Yelp
Nice n Cozy atmosphere with impeccable service and great food. Salmon cooked perfectly has a creamy champagne sauce that is amazing. The house salad was a delicious surprise with the additional ingredients added. Martini well depends on your preferences. I loved it. Thumps up a Chef, Servers and Bartender. We were a group of over 30 people and no disappointed eaters. Yes I highly recommend Houndstooth Pub

Yelp
Came here for a company outing after work. We made reservations so we didn't have to wait for a party of 10. Waitress was nice but she mia most of the time throughout the night especially when we needed something or needed to place an order. However, we did order drinks right when we sat down so drinks came fairly quickly. Food took a while to come. Even if it was appetizers. We had to wait for the waitress to order and then wait for the food to come so it did take a while. As for the food, appetizers were good. Buffalo wings - really good since it came out nice and hot. Wings were juicy but I would prefer a little more sauce. Guac and chips - decent but guac needed a Lillie more seasoning Hummus and pita - hummus was flavorful but it was very watery. (We did order extra pita for additional $$) Onion rings and sweet potato fries- onion rings were nice, crispy and hot. It was pretty good. Sweet potato fries was good as well Burger- I did order the burger with avocado but the burger was very dry and charred for my liking. Overall food was decent. Lower rating was because of the long wait, slow service and one of the waiter dropped a glass cup on my coworker which shattered on the floor but did not apology at all.

Yelp
Very good drinks. Was hesitant to try because the reviews were not very high, but glad we tried it. The drinks were great. The service was quick and very good. I like the fact that it wasn't so loud in there and we could still hear each other. They played great music also.

Yelp
Cozy and inviting. Yummy food. A hidden gem on the west side. During the winter they have lovely wintry drinks!

Yelp
Random find on a Monday at noon. Too early to tell how this review will go. So far the Moscow mule and sangria tbd

Yelp
Great service. Food passable. A bit noisy but likely because all of the hard surfaces. Would I come here again: sure, if it's raining buckets and I'm not j retested in adventuring in NYC. I had the Cobb salad and it was built for vegetable haters - can't say I'm surprised at a pub. I'm thinking the folks in back just want to share the best of a Cobb - chicken, bacon, cheese and bonus avocado (which, along with tomatoes) is a fruit

Chris M.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick dinner and a pint or two on a Wednesday early evening before catching a train back to DC. Easy to find a seat at the bar. Prompt, friendly service, but not intrusive. Food came quickly and was more than just usual pub grub. Fresh whole sliced mozzarella not just a melty gooey mess on the Manchester sandwich impressed me. Was in and out quickly, so I didn't have a chance try anything else or really get to know the place. But I would absolutely come back if I was nearby and needed a good but no frills meal or wanted a drink.
google avatar

Marie P.

Yelp
Great place if you're in the area want a quick bite/drink! The bartender also had such a great playlist. Really great Shirley temple too!
google avatar

Patrizia P.

Yelp
I enjoyed eating here! The food is typical pub food, though I had an out of this world avocado on bread that also had boiled eggs on it and salad, all in one. It was a huge starter! My friends were all satisfied with their meals, too. We also had dessert. Brilliant. The place is also clean, including the toilets! I would return for sure.
google avatar

Yelp
I've visited this pub a couple of times and during the week it has a steady flow of regulars. On the weekend though since it's close to msg, it's packed to the brim. They have a downstairs too with an extra bar and tables. Overall the staff are nice and friendly. The food is pretty good, their Buffalo wings are great! Their onion rings, popcorn shrimp, all really great pub food for having some drinks with. We got their pizza which I don't recommend. I tried their French onion soup which I've gotten on during the week and it was great but then my husband got it another time and it was super burnt and overcooked on top. Good place for groups or work parties, reasonable prices with happy hour $6 yuenglings. What else can you ask for. I still need to try their entrees, the Shepard pie and the roast beef sounds delicious.
google avatar

David E.

Yelp
There is absolutely nothing special about this place. It's cold and open. The staff was nice. The food was average. I just can't see myself returning when there are so many other cozy british pubs in the city.
google avatar

Yelp
I came in alone on a work night in NYC to a busy scene. I was seated immediately at a table for one: no seats at the bar. I ordered the potatoes covered with chili and cheese. Water and wine came quickly, but it was a long wait for food and when arrived, the potatoes were underdone and not fork-tender. My server never came back to check, but I did mention to the bus boy and he said he was sorry, but I feel I overpaid for the condition my food was in as I couldn't eat the potatoes after a few test bites. There's a wide assortment of clientele and it is boisterous here with people laughing and talking. Nearby diners seem to be loving their hamburgers and fries and beers: maybe stay in that direction and have better luck than I!
google avatar

Kevin F.

Yelp
Yes to the good assortment of happy hour specials and spaciousness but no to the quality of the chili fries, soggy and not tasty but plenty oily
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in for a drink around 9 on a Saturday night. Good energy but not crazy. The bartender was fun and worked with me to create an excellent after dinner drink.
google avatar

Dana Z.

Yelp
Can't say I will come back to this one. And I know what you're thinking... you live 4 hours away what do you mean come back. For the amount of times I visit NYC a year (a handful in pre-covid times that I'd like to get back to) there are some restaurants I have that are favs and have made multiple visits. And it's too bad on this one because it has a great proximity to Amtrak and I can get a bite before I go on the train home. Which is what I was hoping to do here. Came in on a Saturday at around 5:10pm. Not busy at all considering it was a Saturday night. Not even a single person sitting at the bar, so I took a seat and ordered a coke and a sandwich. I also checked in to yelp which was helpful in telling me how much time had passed waiting for my order because of the time stamp. I noticed I'm sitting there waiting a looooong time for my sandwich. I came in because I knew I had "plenty of time" but not after waiting 30 minutes for my food! I asked as it was approaching the 30 minute wait point and the bartender went down to the kitchen to find out where my food was. The food itself was fine. It's just the wait was pretty bad. And I don't really know how to comment this: but the bartender seemed pretty not into her job. Which I mean I GET IT. How into bringing tourists drinks can you be. But I was slightly uncomfortable like it was a big imposition on my part for sitting at her bar. I'm almost embarrassed to be writing this because I'm sure she's a nice person I just felt a little uncomfortable.

Yelp
Solid Pub located a few blocks from Madison Square Garden, convenient for pre and post game festivities. Drink service was well above average with some excellent pours. Blanton's neat $24 I did not take part in the cuisine although my friends enjoyed what they ordered. Typical bar menu Prices on par for the area
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour and some food. The drinks were good! For food we got a margherita pizza and it was so over priced. Seems like frozen pizza that they reheated and added some cheese on top. Might come back for drinks but it's overall only ok. Maybe some other food is better but this is my opinions on my visit. This place requires vaccination at the door. Inside was pretty crowded but I was glad they were making an effort to prevent spreading covid.
google avatar

Marilyn M.

Yelp
Fun place to enjoy a lunch and a drink. Bartender friendly. Large bar so most of the time you will find a seat. Nice menu.

Yelp
Excellent ribeye sandwich Jameson pours were awesome Friendly service Go to for locals ans tourist

Yelp
Came in Sunday night with just over an hour to close. The goal was to have a drink or two and call it a night from traveling. Never got any food because not so excited to bartender just didn't care! No greeting- just nothing - blah. Walked out and went across the street to The Tailor Public House. Please look at other patrons- they provide similar experiences. I hope the bartender has a better day. But I'm glad she didn't get my money.
google avatar

Cat D.

Yelp
Came here on 2 different occasions. One was after volunteering at the Good Plus foundation across the street and another time for dinner. Both times were good. Food's good and consistent. Towards the night it became more dine in/restaurant than it did as a bar. Good scene. I like it here and will come back on occasion. We ordered: - 2 orders of sliders - nachos (not pictured) - soy ginger wings - bbq wings - Traditional Chicken Pot Pie - Chunks of chicken, potatoes, peas, carrots in a creamy gravy topped with a flaky crust - Fish and Chips- Cod fillets in Guinness batter seved with steak fries (not pictured) - the Ed Sheeran cocktail No complaint on the food. It was good. The wings were on the colder side when we got them, and the crust of the pot pies were a little stale. But no big deal...I'll come back another time to try other things on their menu.

Yelp
Stopped in on a Saturday night without reservations- we were only 2 and the lovely host was able to seat us. I would recommend reservations as it was very busy. Had a burger with fries. It was good and cooked to order. Happy hour drinks were very reasonable- the red sangria was good but not great, not fruity enough but what was I thinking in an English style pub. Service was great which pushed me from a 3 star to 4. Fun vibe, lots of windows for people watching with is worth it in NYC.

Jeffrey B.

Yelp
We visit the Houndstooth everytime we visit NYC. The food, atmosphere and service is always great. And Aiden always makes us feel welcome each time we visit. Jeff and Laura

Yelp
Their food portions are pretty generous, their drink is strong, they have a very inexpensive happy hour with $4-$9 cocktails, and they can accommodate larger groups (even offering an option to reserve a table). That's one long sentence to sum it all up. The food isn't going to win any awards for extraordinary creations but it will fill your stomach The staff and the service was nice and attentive. The bill was reasonable and we were in and out within reason. There are bathrooms both on the main level and downstairs. A fun Irish pub that you can safely check out when in the area.
google avatar

Daniel M.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and extremely friendly staff. I had the pork shank but really did not like the sauce. Meat was cooked to perfection, potatoes needed salt, and the broccoli was overcooked. The broccoli was perfectly flavored and was the best part of the dish. I really look forward to trying other food here.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Great food. Very friendly staff. Generous portions at a reasonable price. I had chicken pot pie and it was outstanding. Spouses Reuben sandwich was very tasty and humongous.

Yelp
I usually don't step foot in any Yelp restaurants less than. 4 stars, but this was an emergency. Lol! I was hangry! And it is cold outside. So I strolled into this pub as a spot I was headed to was not open. Ate a quick lunch at the bar with server, Andy, who was personable and awesome! He anticipated my needs and was really a great server. So why 3 stars? Well... because the food..... meh. Just wasn't that flavorful or great, to be honest. It was just ok. I started with what was described as a turtle molten cake (yes, dessert first.. you've been doing it wrong this whole time ) that was supposed to have some candied nuts on it. ‍ not one nut was found. What?! And turtle usually means caramel and chocolate, right? Nah. No caramel. It was just a warm chocolate mini bundt cake with some chocolate sauce drizzled. Just... meh. I then had the cod fish taco trio. Again... meh. No real flavor and the guacamole that was on top was just ok. Bland. No seasonings or flavor to it. I added salt and pepper to my last few bites and that HELPED.. but. Meh.. It satisfied my hunger, but I won't really be back. Again, Andy is a rockstar and really enjoyed his awesome and personable energy. But for food, it didn't wow or thrill me. Sorry Houndstooth.
google avatar

Jim T.

Yelp
We stopped in for a few drinks after dinner and before our concert at MSG. There was still a happy hour up until 7pm I believe with some decent specials for NYC. $5 Bud Light bottles and I think $7 for some other draft beers. Service was pretty bad at the upstairs bar, the bartenders seemed more interested in their cell phones than serving drinks and making money. I think the 3 star rating this place has is exactly right... nothing great, nothing terrible... just an average pub in a city full of them.
google avatar

Kathy B.

Yelp
Trevor took great care of us. Helpful. Bowtie pasta (nice combo) and ribs were delicious. (Not tooooo sauced). 2nd visit-Oscar took great care of us. Patient and accommodating. The salmon was perfect. The double burger was perfect with no bun.

Siobhan O.

Yelp
Rock hard chicken fingers and the potato wedges looked so bad we didn't want to even try

Karen G.

Yelp
We had the pleasure of spending HOURS with fairly large groups twice on 3/18/24... for both lunch and dinner after local events, staying late into the night. The service was exceptional... fast and accurate with the most upbeat, friendly interactions and a "can do" attitude. Our groups were diverse and celebratory, with people joining in late and everyone asking for something different. There was not a single missed order and the food was excellent. For lunch, we were in a time crunch, but the meals were delivered quickly, calmly and with a big smile! We felt appreciated and welcome. We certainly are grateful to everyone at the Houndstooth Pub!
google avatar

Dilip J.

Yelp
Unfortunately, live music night. But the place has good service and have no complaints
google avatar

Brian M.

Yelp
Much closer to 4 than 4.1 - but good nonetheless. Started with a slightly dirty assembled wonderfully thanks to my Aussie mate manning the bar. Fish and chips good - not quite as crisp and flaky as one would want...Lobster Mac and cheese - tasty, $16 may be about $4 too high for this dish. Overall, nice place to stop and rehydrate when walking from Times Square back to Chelsea. Tip: To be applied anywhere... get your dirty without olives - based on price - each .02 olive costs about $3.25 in displacement on a $16 martini.

Yelp
Excellent food! I had the chicken pot pie and my friend had the Scottish salmon, both were incredible.
google avatar

Eric Y.

Yelp
i always walk past this hub in the morning on the way to work but i came one saturday and decided to finally just walk in . The food is very good, especially the french onion soup which i loved, the only thing is that I wish it was served with a complimentary bread or side of garlic bread or something that I am used too in the suburbs.. since the soup did cost $10. The chicken tenders were fried perfectly where it was still juicy in the middle. The shrimp pasta was a large portion but nothing that exciting about the flavor except that the shrimps were very big :)

Roberto R.

Yelp
Went on Thursday 1/11, Excellent drinks I had to get myself. Pub was short staffed, we will go back earlier next time.
google avatar

Sammie D.

Yelp
The food here was good but the service wasn't. They waited a good 20 minutes to tell us they ran out of beyond burgers, which happens but they had already made everyone's food before they came and told us. So when I had to pick something new I just got a normal burger and we asked how long that would take the food now out of curiosity. The sever was rude about it and told us a while because I ordered a normal burger as If it was my fault they ran out of food. They never checked on us either. I mean it's New York I know the people aren't the nicest but I didn't think that meant restaurants too. The food however was delicious so at least there's that! And the portions weren't ridiculous either which I also appreciated!
google avatar

Rex W.

Yelp
Three people took care of us: Trevor, Oscar and Liptoli (*spelling). I got the Shepard's pie (please see photo), which was decent. I think I should have gone for the fish and chips instead. (I'm on a Fish & Chips bender.) Definitely a pub vibe on the west side near MSG. Somewhat touristy street.
google avatar

Serge J.

Yelp
As a Blackman I am often not to judge a person but being of light skin I was confronted by the bouncer asking me "Yes" in turned I replied jokingly no as he had no distinguishing attire to tell me he works there. Look like a tall dark stranger that just wanted to be an ass. My wife replied we just want to sit at the bar. We sat and I complained to the bartender at the time who told me he is the bouncer and can do what he wants. I nicely said well you have listed a customer. Black folks be rude to other black folks. Such Bullshit, and that is why I left NYC. PURE BS.
google avatar

Anne G.

Yelp
Went there for an event and it was great food and great wait staff. The event space was great.

Yelp
First bartender got us drinks, was great. But then said she was leaving and she'd like to close the bill at 5PM. We did, not a problem. Then we continued having drinks, the second bartender gave us a bill, and the bill was the same amount. There was obviously a mix up, but the second bartender gave us so much attitude and made us feel like it was our fault, that we just paid in full. There was some overlap mistake they did on their end so we probably paid twice for a couple of rounds, but there was no way we could prove it. Why? Because... He even knew that there as a mistake and reduced it, but it was not ITEMIZED. The bill we had just had one total on it. The original said $80, everything under it was blank, just a bunch of dashes, then he came back and reduced it to $60, everything under it was still blank. When we inquired, he said that he "personally served those drinks," which was total BS. At that point we didn't care because it wasn't worth creating a scene, but we knew we were being had. That was a lot of attitude from a bartender when he couldn't have just printed us an itemized bill. If you go here, pay per round, or pay with cash, but don't start a tab and transfer it to the next bartender. It's a loop hole. Especially when they change shifts around 5PM.

Yelp
I was traveling to New York for work and had the thrill of staying in Time Square. I was there for two weeks. I wanted to find a place I could make "My Spot" Well this was it!! They were very Covid safe.. My host, server and now friend Trevor was AWESOME.. Very welcoming.. The menu .... each time I went out I had planned on getting a salad ... BUUTTTT the menu had so many delicious choices I changed my mind each time.. Hehehehe, I had salad one time... I called it my fruit / cheesecake salad!! Ohhhh... I had a rib salad and a chili salad.... You see what I did there It was all great. 100% a must go to if you're in Time Square!! And tell Trevor Brian said Hi!! Cheers

Dave A.

Yelp
Fantastic burger and fries cooked exactly the way I asked for. Super service and a friendly $5 Happy Hour beer. Gorgonzola and fried onions on burger were plenty and very tasty. Ask for extra napkins.
google avatar

Irene S.

Yelp
Not only was the food delicious, the staff wonderful and courteous, but I left my wallet behind when I paid the bill and I was frantic when I got home to another state. The manager called the next day and said he'd found it and graciously overnighted to me. Money and credit cards intact. Not only was I relieved and grateful but his kind act restored my faith in humanity. Thank you Houndstooth Pub! Please patronize this place as I will be.
google avatar

Ryan N.

Yelp
Food was decent, great ambience, but service was awful. Waitress never spoke a single word to me! Would have ordered a couple more rounds of drinks if she would have ever come by. Very disappointing.
google avatar

Brandon C.

Yelp
Closed at 11:00 on a Friday? Google hours say 1:00a. Please update. Also, host was a jerk.
google avatar

Raedawn J.

Yelp
Disgusting how my friend and I came in today when there weren't many customers and the one waiter served a group of 6 white men before my friend and I. We sat 5mins before them. The waiter came over and took our order didn't ask what we wanted to drink. Only white peoples in the restaurant and they all got their food. Waiter kept passing us by and never asked if we needed anything or to update us on our food. Don't bother coming here if you're a person of color.
