I Grew Up Along Bangkok's Canals — Here's How Its Rich History Connects to the Forward-thinking City

5 Innovative Michelin-Recommended Restaurants to Visit in Bangkok

"It's worth arriving early to wander around the beautiful colonial mansion, which dates from 1889 and was once the embassy of the Soviet Union. The porte-cochère entrance leads to a sumptuous bar and the perfect spot for a cocktail. The food is Asian with a Turkish twist; the combinations are ambitious and the presentation flamboyant—the Turkish chef's travels inform his cuisine. 'Sultan's Message Can't Deliver' is his speciality." - Kenneth Goh

I’ve ticked off almost every world-renowned bar in Bangkok, so with just one left on my list, I had to give it a try. The Bar, tucked inside the over-100-year-old House on Sathorn, is worth a visit for the setting alone. The atmosphere is gorgeous, and the drinks are a creative blend of Thai influences and the building’s history through the decades. No full meals here—just small bar bites—but the staff make up for it with their warm, attentive service (they even remember your name!). Tip: book a seat by the window for the best vibes.

The House on Sathorn has such a beautiful and unique ambiance. I went in the evening when there was a live DJ playing music, which made the atmosphere even better. The staff were very friendly, explaining both the history of the building and the drinks menu. The building itself is stunning — full of character and rich in history. Definitely a memorable place to visit.

We used the meeting room there. The rooms were well decorated. Room on the first floor had great natural light. Room on the third floor was kind of too dark for the event. Coffee break was well organized. Lunch was served in the main building.

We had high tea at Paii at The House on Sathorn at 2:30 PM, and it was a truly memorable experience. The venue itself is absolutely stunning — a beautifully restored old mansion that blends elegance with the timeless charm of Bangkok. I fell in love with the architecture immediately! The atmosphere was calm, elegant, and full of character. It truly felt like a peaceful escape from the busy city. We were warmly welcomed, and the service throughout was lovely, without being too formal. The high tea set was generous — Honestly, more than enough for two people, for such an awesome experience. The presentation was beautiful and creative. It arrived in courses: First a selection of savoury pastries, followed by an exquisite presentation of sweet desserts. Everything was beautiful, delicious and thoughtfully crafted. After tea, I took a walk through the garden outside — it was so peaceful and charming. The whole experience made me feel like I had stepped back in time in the most elegant way. Highly recommended if you want to enjoy a relaxing afternoon in one of Bangkok’s most unique and elegant heritage settings.

Nice colonial building in Bangkok. High tea is pretty exquisite and huge portion that 3 of us cannot finish a set that is for 2. Excellent service. Too bad it was a rainy day, else outdoor will be nice on a cool day.

Unique drinks that tasted awesome. The service is good as the staff kept checking on us. There is also complimentary drinks for our honeymoon! The old building is nicely transformed into a cosy bar!

The best afternoon tea in Bangkok that i really love is The house on Sathorn. You will get a nice afternoon tea set & good view. I would recommend to reserve table before and recommend sofa that very limit table only. Service is really nice all time that i visit here for normal day and special birthday with friends.

Highly recommend this colonial styled Thai modern cuisine restaurant. It’s intimate with a touch of luxury. The ambience is cozy yet grand. They have indoor and outdoor seating available. Reservation is highly recommended. Loved the Thai Green curry and Charcoaled Eggplant salad.
