I was really excited to try this place after seeing so many great reviews and finding it on our work corporate Seamless account, but I've been pretty underwhelmed the few times I've ordered from Hummus & Pita. One of the real advantages, in my opinion, is the portion size - I eat like Kobayashi and it's hard for me to finish the bowls/platters, so I have to give Hummus & Pita credit where credit is due and acknowledge that the bang for your buck is pretty high up there.
I usually order the Gyro bowl or the chicken platter, both of which come with a couple sides and unlimited toppings, which is nice if you're like me and aren't a picky eater and want a whole bunch of crap piled on your food. I can't figure out the difference between the bowls and the platters beside the number of "fillings" (I think the platter gets three while the bowl gets two) and the layout (the difference is self-explanatory).
My favorite "fillings" are the cous-cous and the stuffed grape leaves, although you can't go wrong with rice. I ordered the fried eggplant last time and thought it was a little soggy.
The chicken is better than the gyro in my opinion, but even the chicken I thought was very, very dry. It's pretty charred which is yummy, but seems to be chopped pretty thin in a way where the "char" is really the only flavor you get.
The hummus is, in my opinion, almost inedible, which is strange for a place where all of the dishes are somewhat centered around hummus. I guess it might be somewhat of a personal taste thing, but I can't stand the hummus here - I need to order it flavored, and even then it's tough for me to choke it down.
Overall, it's a great value, and a pretty passable meal especially considering the customization options, but the food itself is fairly mediocre.
