The Icehouse Restaurant

Very good experience! My wife and I came here on New Year’s Eve, and was fortunately able to be sat down pretty quickly! The parking lot was very small but we found a spot across the street. It was initially hard to find the entrance, as it is apparently in the back of the building. We mistakenly walked up the stairs to another bar area, but if you want the restaurant you have to enter through the back. Our waitress was extremely nice, especially for working on a holiday. Our meals were also very, very good! The food is slightly pricy, but I can’t complain because it is a nicer place. The menu has a good variety of food. For appetizers we ordered the spinach artichoke dip, and the she-crab soup. Both VERY tasty. I would ask for both pita AND chips with the dip (pro tip). I would order either one of them again in a heartbeat. Our entree’s were also extremely good. I ordered the seared scallops and shrimp, which was a new years special meal. We also finished it off with beignets for dessert. Those were good, but sort of plain. However, overall the meal was fantastic paired with the very hospitable service. The atmosphere is pretty cool and unique inside with the brick and old design. Any slight negatives were overshadowed by the great experience we had. We will be back!

Shane was an amazing waiter at Icehouse! He was on top of everything the entire time and we never had to ask for refills or anything we needed—he was already one step ahead. His service made the whole experience feel easy and enjoyable. The food was fantastic too. The burger was cooked perfectly and the shrimp and grits were so good. Overall, it was a great meal and Shane’s attentive, friendly service really made it stand out. We’ll definitely be back!

We had an excellent server. He recommended the bottle of wine. It was very good. He was funny and helpful. Food was very good. We had a fairly large table and everyone was pleased with their meal. I hope to be able to go back again when in that area. I will say it gets very crowded.

We really liked the food. Took a table outdoors (next to the kids playground?) to avoid the wait. Then got hit with an unknown admin fee (first time for that). Id ditch the playground and put more tables outside. Really enjoyed the food though.

A really great place to get chef quality food at a great price. Craft cocktails, unique beers, and of course, the excellent food. Friendly staff, who work extremely hard to make sure that you have a great visit. Highly recommend!

We really liked the atmosphere with the brick walls and fireplace going. Our server Monet was wonderful! Food was good. We got the she crab soup, pecan crusted pork chop and country fried steak and of course the beignets.

Very cool, historic building that used to be an actual ice house where they delivered ice blocks to families in the summer. The food was good... I had the pecan encrusted pork chop with collard greens and mashed potatoes...a little heavy, but it was my fault for choosing it, still really good. The apple chutney that it came with was yummy. The colors greens and mashed potatoes are really good. The staff are very friendly. Indoor and outdoor seating. And there's an outdoor bar and playground for the kids.

Really cool place to eat. It’s inside of an old power plant from 1903. Our server was amazing and the food was reasonable and arguably the best meal we had on our trip to Charleston.

Very good experience! My coworkers and I came here on Tuesday, February 3rd, after a big CBP inspection. There was no wait, and our party of five was seated very quickly. The parking lot is quite small, but we were able to find two spots across the street. The entrance was a little difficult to find at first, as it's located in the back of the building. We initially walked upstairs into another bar area, but if you're looking for the restaurant, you'll need to enter through the back. Our waitress was extremely nice--cheerful, attentive, and very helpful. Our meals were delicious and beautifully plated. I ordered the shrimp and grits, while another coworker ordered the Cajun pasta; both dishes had a slight kick of spice. My lunch-sized shrimp and grits was outstanding. The shrimp were plump, tender, and perfectly seasoned, and the grits were creamy, smooth, and full of cheesy flavor--clearly made with care. It was a beautifully balanced dish that felt both indulgent and classic, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. Other orders included two house salads (one with grilled chicken and one without protein) and a sandwich paired with fried sweet potato fries. Everything came out fresh and well-prepared. The food was excellent from start to finish. While the menu is slightly on the pricier side, it's absolutely worth it for the quality and atmosphere. I finished with the crème brûlée for dessert, which was the perfect ending. The custard was silky and rich, and the caramelized sugar topping had a satisfying crack--offering just the right contrast without being overly sweet. The atmosphere inside is unique and charming, with exposed brick and an old-world design that adds warmth and character. Any minor inconveniences were far outweighed by the excellent food, attentive service, and overall experience. We truly enjoyed our lunch and will definitely be back. The service, the food and atmosphere were great. Casey, our waitress, was considerate and knowledgeable. I ate the She Crab soup, delicious. My sister in-laws shared the fried pickles, also delicious. It was a beautiful day to eat outdoors.

Amazing food and service at an eclectic bar/restaurant in Summerville. I highly recommend the steak bites and the goat cheese salad.

Wow! Wish I could give this place 10 stars. From the service to the ambiance to the food. It was all fantastic. Our sever Christina was incredible she was so attentive and really made our night fun!! The Bartender (i didn't catch her name) went above and beyond for us as well to try their different sauces, and sample the different drinks on tap. They have great indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outside so my son could play at the playground. He enjoyed it and made some friends. The honey mustard was unreal, the sweet tea vinaigrette on the salad needs to be bottled, and if you're a ranch lover their ranch is delish!! The country fried steak had so much flavor and was cooked perfectly and the chicken tenders had great flavor!! Literally everything we had was great! Can't wait to go back!! This is my new favorite spot.

Very cute restaurant with indoor & outdoor setting along with an outdoor bar. BEST ESPRESSO MARTINI courtesy of the beautiful & talented Monet (bartender at the main bar). I am a connoisseur of espresso martinis and I've had a lot of bad ones in my life so I can tell you right now....This is the best one I've had on US soil.. Food was great! Waiter was Jimmy, he was busy but set expectations & had a great way of pointing out his favs & popular menu items! Loved his presentation abilities! Pros: A lot! Food, atmosphere & drinks. Cons: only thing we did not like was the ceviche (spelling). We will be back! Thank you for a great night out with friends!

This is a very typical local restaurant with an assortment of surf and turf options. Nothing too fancy on the menu and well-priced for what it is. Not many tables and it shares space with a bar. My service was totally fine, very pleasant and food came out fast. I had a filet & collards and the Ice House salad; steak was borderline between rare and medium rare (I ordered medium rare) and was fine. Collards were nothing special though I never have high expectations there, salad was actually pretty tasty and didn't need dressing. Overall the price was not too high, it was actually well priced for what I got, so I can't complain. Like a few other places in Summerville, the site makes it look much more upscale than it actually is. J.Ja

The Ice House was, in fact, an ice house at one time. Thick walls are a reminder of that function. I've now been there twice and both experiences were excellent. I was with groups for lunch on both occasions and the service staff did a great job with multiple orders. Time from order to food was very reasonable and the delivery was accurate. First time I had the petite filet mignon which was perfectly cooked. There was a small amount of gristle, but I find that increasingly common in that cut. The smashed potato side was quite tasty with a pleasant gravy. My wife had the salad as one of her sides and it was both delicious and quite large. On my second visit I had the shrimp and grits. This was presented in a non-traditional way with shrimp off to the side and the grits mixed with a few boulibaise elements, thus giving it a significant flavor boost. Very nicely done. Great experiences both times in a warm pleasant environment.

Not sure what happened here but the quality of food has declined substantially over the past few visits, over the course of a year. We started coming here when we moved back to the area about six years ago and really enjoyed the atmosphere and great food. Now it's just a bland watery mess. From the soup to the shrimp and grits, overall very disappointing. I hope they find a new chef before their reputation goes in the gutter. Until then we won't be back. Too many other amazing restaurants coming to the Summerville area to waste on subpar food.

Give The Ice house a try, I'm glad we went back again. On this second visit we dined inside on the upper floor, and it was a cozy vantage spot overseeing the 1st floor bar and tables. The ambiance from the brick walls, low lights, fireplace arch, and ceiling beams gave TIH an authentic feel. The food didn't disappoint. My Caesar salad was good, and my white bean and sausage soup was excellent - tops that I've had. TIH has a full local draft beer menu, and so I enjoyed my favorite IPA. Our waitress was polished and polite, and contributed to our relaxing late lunch. We'll be back.

Food was wonderful Cassie was our waitress. She was amazing. Friendly, helpful and quick. We are from Indiana visiting friends. We'd come back again.

Great place to eat and very family friendly. However, I have one major issue that is non negotiable. The patio/beer garden allows people to smoke. There is a great kids area and the restaurant allows people to smoke in this area. There were about 15 kids playing tonight and everything was great until people started lighting their cigarettes. I would add 2.5 stars if smoking was not allowed. There is plenty of room to smoke your cigarettes on the front porch or out by the street.

Took my husband last night for his birthday to dinner. Don't go there super hungry as the wait was longer than the time they had told us. Brittany was our server, and I immediately told her we knew what we wanted and we were really hungry. She told us no problem, she gets everything to us quickly. She was wonderful, listen to what we wanted and was most attentive. We got to know her a bit, found out she is going for her associates degree in cosmetology, had a brother who also works there and lives with her family. We will be requesting Brittany every time we go there for her great service, and great personality, in addition to their great food!! We just will go to dinner earlier or have a snack before we go

Nice pub in the heart of downtown Summerville. The restaurant was unfortunately closed, I will go back to try the food and do another review. The bar however is up the stairs, nice live music from some talented musicians. I let the bartender know it was my first time and he gave me a bumper sticker and some matches as souvenirs... that was nice. My drink was amazing. The interior was so cool to look at! I would go back for sure.

Our bartender was extremely nice and served us with speed. Then we were seated and told it was gonna be a little bit for a waitress to get to us, but she still found time on a busy night to slice in and get us drinks and then got a appetizers so it really wasn't a wait at all!!!!!!! That right there is service at a freakinghigh-level in a bar that I didn't know & I was questioning, but that got shut down quick with the impressive way that Shelby handled it everything!

You're greeted with a smile. The customer service is amazing! The good is excellent. The decor is awesome! The environmental design and interior design is eye catching! There are many gluten free options. The staff personnel are very knowledge of celiac and gluten intolerance. Half through my meal, the experience is 1 millionth billionth percent awesome sauce! The server suggested grenadine since they did not have Cherry Coca Cola. I love grenadine!!!

Located in an old ice house in the heart of historic Summerville. This restaurant serves my favorite shrimp and grits in South Carolina. There are always delicious local beers on tap and the servers are super friendly.

This place was a fabulous spot for a fun little date night. We started upstairs for a drink at the divey bar area and then went to the restaurant part and sat outside. Two very different vibes which was cool! They were accommodating to my shellfish allergy and I was able to eat exactly what I wanted We will definitely be back!

ICE, ICE,BABY! We are relocating from Long Island, NY and upon recommendation of one of the builders of our new home, we stumbled upon this iconic establishment. The decor of the place is rustic with old brick work that gives rise to its former glory as an old ice house that supplied ice to the masses. Upon entering, you can immediately enjoy the old brickwork that was part of the Ice Houses pedigree as a former "Ice House". Upon seating, we were greeted by our server Emma who was on her AAA game. She knew the menu inside and out and was able to successfully navigate our choices for appetizers and dinner. It's great when your server is attentive, user friendly and a dedicated fan of Taylor Swift! My grew daughter, Madison (7) would be so pleased. So if you are in Summerville, this is the place for you, especially because the food is off the charts! Just sayin

I love this place! When I worked close by I would walk to get lunch or pick up dinner. Staff is always friendly and the food has always been delicious. I always recommend to anyone who is visiting.

The food and desserts were so good and came out quick too! Our server was also very nice and funny.

I've been here a few times and everything I've gotten has been fantastic. I've heard the salads are amazing. This is one of my go-tos when my friends and family come visit. Love the area it's located in and the restaurant has a cool vibe. I've only had one person not have a good experience as far as the food goes. I've never had issues with the staff.

I recently moved to Summerville and the first place I tried was The Icehouse. My Buffalo Wings were very good and the service was very good as well and Shelby was super nice and a go-getter. I've been back a few times since then and it's a great place to go.

New to the area, but we love sitting outside on the patio for lunch. Salads, burgers, cocktails and beignets. What's not to like. Burgers and salmon were cooked perfectly. And they have a sweet tea vinaigrette that's wonderful. The big foot playground is cute too for the kids.

Everything was great, I can't wait for the next time I get a chance to go again. Just happened upon it while looking for a non-chain place for dinner

We loved the Ice House!! The food, service, atmosphere - all awesome for our family of 4! My boys loved playing on the outside playset and the atmosphere both inside and out was enjoyable for all! We loved the fried shrimp, grits and the delicious remoulade sauce! Service was so friendly and prompt! Loved all the fun facts on the menu too - such a great place!

WOW! This is the food we have been searching for since moving to the area. We had one of the best waitresses I think we have ever had. She made very strong recommendations on what to order. We took her advice and we are glad we did! The lamb 2 ways was hands down the best lamb I have ever had. The balsamic glaze really tied the entire flavor profile together. The pork chops were moist and the apple complimented the pecan crusting very nicely. I think we will quickly become regulars at The Ice House!

Live the ambiance in the old ice house. Super unique. The wait staff was outstanding and super friendly. The food was fresh and delicious with a great variety on the menu.

One of my fav summerville spots. Their food is always so good. And their special menu is always worth looking at.

VERY DISSAPOINTING WAGYU BEEF MEAL---- the meat was not at all like the Japanese version in fact it was quite dry and almost chalky like meat in a freezer too long.... For a $38 meal i was very disappointed. had no idea this was AMERICAN Wagyu..which is not pure bred like the japanese version... and the menu did not state that either or i would never have ordered it. see the info on Wagyu from the internet below : xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx the biggest difference between American Wagyu and Japanese Wagyu is that Japanese Wagyu is purebred, where American Wagyu is crossbred. "Almost all of that stuff is angus beef crossbred with Wagyu in an uncontrolled, unregulated, unspecified percentage of DNA," Heitzeberg says. "I've eaten my bodyweight several times over in Japanese Wagyu and American Wagyu, and I haven't tasted anything that's angus mixed with Wagyu at any percentage that tastes like Japanese Wagyu does at 100 percent."

Once again The Ice House kills it with the ambiance, great food, especially the chicken fried steak, and the heart and soul; exceptional service. Tonight our server was Victoria. THE BEST!

I've loved Crystals Ice House for as long as many of you have been alive. This is the best bar and restaurant in Summerville hands down. This place radiates character and ambiance. The food is top notch and so is the service. My all time favorite dish is the cajun pasta, extra spicy. Best place to take a date or celebrate an anniversary. Dinner downstairs and drinks upstairs.

Always a pleasure to dine at this venue.We have been customers for years...and we still meet up with friends and family to enjoy our meals and time together.Highly recommend.

It was a pic by a family. Member is a resident in the area. The staff was really accommodating because we sat around catching up for the lost time and we had a great server who was a New Jersey native like us enhance the experience great appetizers great sandwiches we will definitely visit again

A bustling, family friendly restaurant! Limited parking, but love the outdoor seating (it has a playground for kiddos!) when the weather's warm and the inside has a completely different vibe. The interior is mostly wood with a stone fireplace lit in the evenings. The food there is really good and they have a menu unique to them. Last I was there, they had a pecan crusted pork chop that was spot on. Their creamy cajun pasta is also a really good option for those who aren't fans of spicy foods but like that perfect amount of heat. The portions are also pretty big, so plan to take food home if you're wanting to save room for dessert.

I really like the atmosphere - the outside is great, kid corner, nice outdoor bar, pet friendly and seems like it would be shaded during the summer. I sat downstairs but was told there was an upstairs. The dual room fireplace will look nice when it's colder. So to the food. I made the mistake of reading a review recommending to get the lunch special the retro lunch tray. Well. It is a plastic tray with sides all in plastic containers. It really took away from any sophisticated sense here. The special todayvwas a fried flounder. It was fine but I wish I had gone to the codfather for fried fish. The salad is an after thought, the potato wedges were fine, I upgraded and got the she crab soup which was good but too many scallions on such a small portion. Service was efficient- there is a credit card charge so be aware (or you can call it a cash discount ). I would come back to really stick to other foods and bring my dog and eat outside.

I moved away from Summerville a little over three years ago, but go back once a year to my near by lake house. This year my family member decided to take me here to get a bit to eat. I was pleasantly surprised. Although I enjoyed living in Summerville in the past my one complaint was that the food did not stack up to bigger areas such as San Jose, CA or Tampa Bay FL. This place does stack up and is a great place if you are feeling the same way I felt about food in this area. Try this place out. You'll like it. The staff were friendly and the restrooms were clean. You can eat in or out doors. Pricing is as expected for a place of this quality. They have good option on the menu.

Always amazing food! We love the beer selections and the daily specials! My favorite go to meal here is the pork ribeye- the most tender pork chop I've ever had. It's topped with a mustard sauce and thin crispy onion rings. The collards are great too not too sweet and somewhat tangy. Not pictured- the Cajun chicken pasta This is delicious too my husband always orders this. It's chicken, sausage and some type of a salami in a spicy Alfredo sauce Definitely recommend!

I love this place . Really fun atmosphere, good food and cool ambiance. They are right off of Hutchison square and have free parking available. They've gotta diverse menu and something for everyone's tastes . The service is always excellent too .

I have been a customer of The Icehouse for the past 8 years and had always had a good to great experience, until today. I was meeting up with a large number of friends (20, give or take, all older women). We had planned this for several weeks, had contacted the IceHouse a couple of weeks to let them know our plans. This is not the first time we have gathered at The Icehouse. We know they do not take reservations. We know seating is subject to availability. We know we will probably not be served our food at the same time. We were good with that. We called the day before, were reminded members of our party would probably need to wait to be seated, no reservations, etc. And we were good with that. I arrived early to start securing a table or two. Told the hostess how many I was expecting, again told they could not seat 20 at one time, but could seat up to 10 at one time. Fine, will work with that, we will just request tables as people arrive. People start to arrive, we send people in to request a table. They come back out, and we are enjoying ourselves. There were no other patrons on the patio with the exception of one table that was finishing their meal. They were NOT busy based on the traffic I saw entering the restaurant and the vacant tables on the patio. We are having a good time chatting, the wait staff is very pleasant and helpful, and did not appear put out at all. Then a woman who identified herself as a manager comes out to tell us we cannot be accommodated. She was unwilling to work with us, and was willing to turn away 5-6 tables of people who want to enjoy a cold beverage and lunch. She would not listen to the fact that we were not in a hurry and did not have to receive our meals at the same time. She kept saying that we were told when we called that they could not accommodate us, which is not what was communicated. What was communicated was we could be seated in small groups, but may have to wait for service. She was calling the individual who had spoken to her a liar to that person's face. She stopped serving us and told us to leave. We settled up and went to Carolina Ale House, who was more than happy to accommodate our group. And more than happy to collect more than $400-$500 in sales on a slow Saturday, not counting the tips we left for our server. Icehouse really needs to get their act together. If they cannot accommodate 5 tables of 4 patrons each at lunch on a Saturday, people who are buying food and beverage, how long will they be able to stay in business? And how much business are they losing due to a manager with anger management issues who cannot figure out how to manage an influx of patrons needing service. And how much are their wait staff losing out on in tips?

I ordered a gluten free sandwich and mashed potatoes and had an almost immediate gluten reaction.

So, Icehouse Upstairs is the old school bar. I absolutely love this place. Casual, comfortable, and friendly. Devin (might not have spelled that right) was the bartender and she was great! Making all (even me the first timer) feel like a regular. You have to ask about the pours from the bottles above your head. Super cool! They have tons of liquor choices! I'll definitely be back!

Tucked away in downtown Summerville, such a great bar/restaurant to pop into for dinner. They have a dining area downstairs along with outdoor seating, but they also have an upstairs area that's a bit more rugged and laid back. Came here on a slower night for dinner and the food and drinks were amazing. Staff was super friendly and provided excellent service. Truly a great place.
