2 Days In Reykjavik

"Continuing along colourful Laugavegur, pause to gaze in awe at the Viking Mural which adorns a house on the corner of Laugavegur and Klapparstigur. A few steps further along, look to your left to see Rainbow Street, with its giant rainbow painted on the tarmac. Our next stop, at the eastern end of the street, is so small that if you blink you could miss it. The Icelandic Punk Museum is positively peculiar. Occupying a former public toilet block, this tiny museum showcases the role punk culture has played in shaping the Icelandic identity." - The MICHELIN Guide Nordic Editorial Team

The best, former player public toilet, you will ever set fit in. If you love punk, music in general, or just the unique, you will love the Museum. The vibe is incredible before you even descend the stairs. Put on the headphones hanging from the ceiling, try on a battle jacket and kick some ass, enjoy every stall. A must see.

Owner was super friendly and passionate, museum is super awesome! Every inch is punk and it clearly took a lot of time to create. I especially enjoyed listening to the songs and finding some new favorites. Totally worth it for tourists and locals alike

We went to The Icelandic Punk Museum on our last day. It had a ton of history throughout such a small space. I really liked the multiple headphones where you could listen to different artists.

Great place! They turned an old public toilet facility into a very cool Icelandic Punk Museum. Had a great little visit and the staff were extremely nice as well! Thanks for the great experience!

That was a cool place to visit, not only in the history of the punk movement it told, but in the way the museum is arranged as well. It was really well thought I think, it embodied the concept of punk, and the owners were really nice.

Very cool little museum that we randomly came across. Located in old public toilets, there’s tons of history about the rise of punk in Iceland, with neat posters, music videos and props (leather jackets, stickers, instruments) and the owner offers to take your picture by saying “give me your flipping phone already” (not able to post what was actually said!) while you’re fumbling for it 😂. People complaining about the price - a veggie burger here is $25, this place equals $16 USD, that’s cheap! And the owner is rude? Nah, he’s an old punk. Don’t come into a punk museum expecting red carpet treatment

I’m not really into Punk, Rock is what holds my fancy. But, I decided to check out this place since the location looked interesting. It was worth it! The history written all over the walls, the drum set and guitars around, the posters. The host is a cool quirky man, his passion for Punk oozes from the way he’s kept the place. I’d say it’s a very interesting part of your Reykjavik experience.

a fun little place to read about the history of Icelandic punk and see how you can repurpose something like a public toilet into a museum (or band rehearsal/gig room)
