Obituary: Texas Barbecue Restaurant Pitmaster John Brotherton Dies | Eater Austin

"Opened in 2011 as a food truck in Pflugerville, Hall of Flame was Brotherton’s first formal venture into selling his smoked meats; that truck closed in 2013 before he moved on to a brick-and-mortar effort." - Nadia Chaudhury

Indian Flames is a food truck, which offer authentic Indian cuisine. Wide selections of vegetarian and "non-vegetarian" options. If you don't like Indian spices, you can alway asked the chef to put less spices. Very friendly staff and definitely will be going again.

We had booked catering services from Indian Flames for a party at our home. Their service was amazing. They took care of the entire setup, decoration and keeping the food warm. They took care to arrive early for the setup and decorations and later brought the food in an electric food warmer. The food we ordered was vegetarian and it tasted absolutely delicious and amazing with all spices rightly balanced and even the kids loved it. I will highly recommend using their services for any catering events.

Tried Indian Flames today with my friend, and the food was amazing! The dahi bhalla was very good and perfectly sweet, and the pani puri was just awesome. Great flavors and authentic taste — really good Indian food! Highly recommend!

We catered a party with Indian flames. We ordered the butter chicken, paneer pasanda, Hakka noodles, and veg manchurian. Everything was super tasty and got a lot of praises from guests. The food was packaged securely in lidded trays, delivered on time in an insulated box, and the owners also included a complimentary half tray of salad and papad. Very nice gesture. Would highly recommend The Indian Flames for your catering needs - best spot for Indian food in South Austin!

Went to Indian Flame over the weekend with a few friends because we were suddenly all craving Indian food, and honestly, it hit the spot perfectly. Even though it was pretty crowded, we didn’t have to wait long at all, which was a nice surprise. The food was so good exactly the flavors we were hoping for. Every dish tasted fresh, comforting, and just really well made. Overall, such a good experience. Great food, friendly service, and totally worth the visit. I’d definitely go back!

This place is so good! Their food portions are big and delicious, me and my sister ordered things to share and we had to take some to go as well. The staff is super nice and their patio is super chill and cute. Definitely bringing my friends next time I’m craving Indian food 😻

I tried Indian Flames in Austin recently and honestly, the food was really good. Everything tasted fresh and full of flavor. The butter chicken was creamy and delicious, the tikka had great spice, and the naan was soft and served warm. Their biryani was also really nice — flavorful without being too spicy. The staff was super friendly and the service was fast, even though the place was pretty busy. The vibe is cozy and welcoming, and the prices felt fair for the amount of food you get. If you’re looking for good Indian food in Austin, definitely give this place a try. I’ll gladly go back again.

Google
The food was absolutely top tier! Everything was flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and clearly made fresh. As a vegetarian, I’ve always appreciated how Indian cuisine offers so much variety when it comes to vegetarian and vegan options—and this place did not disappoint. The staff member who helped us was super friendly and guided me through the menu. I ended up choosing the buttered tofu with jasmine rice, and my friend and I shared the garlic naan and vegetable momos. Every dish was a solid 10/10. The portions were generous—I could only finish half of my tofu and rice, and the same went for the naan. I enjoyed the rest the next day, and it was just as delicious. I’m already looking forward to coming back and trying more of the veggie options! Plus the atmosphere was so peaceful with other food trucks, greenery, and a bar at the back.

Yelp
As a Pakistani who has grown up eating Indian/Pakistani food, I think I would recommend this place. We came on a Friday night, and the trailer park it's in has plenty of seating with fans/mist/shade to help us stay cool. We ordered chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, chooza kebab, vegetable samosas, and butter naan. Overall I would say the food is great for Austin standards. I grew up in Houston and am used to the quality of Aga's and this place isn't quite there. I'm also used to halal meat and I don't believe this place uses halal meat so it's a little more tough than expected for the chicken tikka and butter chicken curries. But as we know there aren't many great options for Indian food in Austin, so with that being said I would recommend this spot. As a desi, if you're ever missing home food then this is the spot for you. Plenty of options and a large variety beyond the basic options that we picked lol.

Yelp
Pros - they put hard work in making dishes.. Cons - 1) Extremely pricey for a food truck. their dishes are even more expensive than restaurants.. 2) Taste is not that authentic.. Likely their chefs are not that good and have no experience in cooking authentic north indian food..

Monica S.

Yelp
We ordered vegetarian food. It was very yummy and delicious. There was a lot of flavor in the food. They took little bit longer for our order, but it was worth the wait, since everything was cooked really fresh. They offer a lot on their menu. Would definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place. The ambiance in the food park was lovely. We waited 35 mins. for our food. We ordered off of the vegetarian menu and were disappointed by the quality of the food. The tofu in the tofu tikka masala was undercooked and didn't have any flavor, the vegetable curry was sour, and the veggie spring rolls were little egg rolls that seemed like the frozen ones from Costco. They tried to give us ketchup instead of tamarind sauce with them. I was disappointed. Maybe the meat options are tastier.

Yelp
This was a decent place for Indian food, sadly it has gone completely down hill. Had dinner ordered from them this saturday for guests. And it was a complete embarrassment. We ended up getting dominos. We ordered Dal makhni, which had so much salt that it was inedible. Malai kofta tasted stale. Peshawari naan and garlic naan was raw. Paneer tikka in paneer tikka salad was under cooked u could taste the raw marinade. Mushroom tikka was extremely hot spicy despite requesting medium. This place has now been struck out for us, sad to see a good food truck with such a nice ambience ruined.

Yelp
This is a new food truck in the same complex as Manoli's. We had actually only come by for dessert but the waft of their cooking got us curious about this new food option. The menu is quite large with North Indian and Indian Chinese food items. The order took some time to be prepared because each one was made to order but the daal was really good and I look forward to trying more items soon.

Yelp
This is one of the few Indian food trucks that is open all day as most only open in the afternoon/evening. They have a very large menu which I was surprised for a food truck. I had amazing paneer makhani and garlic naan which was very flavorful. I was told the kebab was very flavorful as well. There was ample seating outside although it was hot they had some fans running. If you want good Indian food def check this place out.

Yelp
I LOVE this place! I have had a lot of Indian food all over the country and by far, this is the best. There are so many things to eat and enjoy. The menu is huge and is not only Indian fare, but also Indo-China cuisine. For anyone that has only had the standard Saag-Paneer or Aloo Ghobi, this place will blow you away. They do have some standard dishes. I ordered the goat tikka masala and was blown away! The textures, spices and flavors melted into such delight that I could not share with my friend. Only down side, if its busy, the wait will be long

Yelp
Indian flames has THE best chicken tikka masala I've ever had in Austin. The chicken is extremely tender, no dryness at all and packed with flavor. The garlic naan was chewy and very garlicky. After the first bite, I immediately thought about ordering it again tomorrow lol. The food truck park is amazing especially if you have energetic children as there's a playground and a lot of open space to run around!

Colleen S.

Yelp
I had THE best lamb biryanis ever. All my friends enjoyed their dishes as well. Check them out their truck at Oak Hill Social. Delightful!!!

Yelp
Got the Flames Special Chicken curry and a plain naan. It was not good. Not much meat on the bones of the chicken and the gravy, and the meat, didn't have much flavor. I also got several pieces of small bone fragments in my mouth and I didn't even have that many bites. The aromas from the truck smelled really good, but food was disappointing.

Yelp
In my opinion, this is the best indian food in Austin! It is consistent and delicious with a wide range of options. the space is lovely and great for date night or hanging out :). the staff is also lovely!! 10/10 recommend this place

Rachel S.

Yelp
This place has been in our "too lazy to cook" rotation for a while and we've never had a bad experience. Our usuals are paneer pasanda, malai kofta and saag paneer (grateful for abundant vegetarian options). We always order ahead and everything is ready for pick up on time, piping hot and delicious. Usually get a few meals out of each order.

Yelp
Great food, friendliest service. So glad to have this place close by. Perfect for a family lunch out.

Yelp
The food was fresh, ordered chicken biriyani and it didn't have much chicken in it. However the flavor was very good. The portion was big. They have pagers which was nice. I was able to wait in my car. I would come back if I was in the area.

S P.

Yelp
Chicken tikka masala was some of the best I've ever had! Will definitely be returning for that. Chicken kebabs were very strong in ginger and I wasn't a fan. Mango lassi was also just OK.

Yelp
My fave food is Indian. My friend had us all go here. My son & I got dosa's with paneer. My husband's dish was good. My two friends dishes were good. Her dosa looked light and fluffy and freshly cooked. She said there was not enough potatoes in it. Our 2 dosa's took a long time to cook. Having never been there before, I was dismayed to see they serve many items in Styrofoam. I spoke to the man at the front who was very friendly and he showed me the little plastic containers and said the dosa's would be served in foil. It seemed we had a bit of a communication problem but it seemed cleared up. Our food arrived and each dosa was in its own Styrofoam container. I did not want to say anything because nothing could be prevented at that point, and so just took the food and went to eat it. The dosa's were hard, dark, not fluffy, the paneer was cut in little matchstick pieces and they were firm like dried out fruit leather. It was not a good experience. I should have returned them but did not feel like it, being polite and mostly southern US in culture, we vote with our wallets often and so won't go back. The green sauce was supposedly coconut with cilantro my friend said, but it tasted rancid and not like cilantro. The gravy in the little plastic container for the dosa was exceptional and the red sauce for it was quite good. My best guess as to what happened as a cook myself is someone ordered them and they sat there a long time and then when I ordered them, they tried to reheat them and then served them or they simply over cooked them, then kept them sitting there for 20 minutes and then served them. I dunno, the mystery of the hard little pieces of paneer... not going back.

Yelp
Love their goat tikka masala, garlic naan, and mango lassi. Always my go-to items with plenty of meat in the tikka masala and professional service. Glad to have this place in our neighborhood!

David R.

Yelp
Delicious and great service! Ordered chicken tikka masala and loved it. Great food truck and friendly staff.

Rakhi D.

Yelp
This is one of the best and authentic North Indian flavors that I had in Austin. Indian Flames catered food for my housewarming event and it was absolutely spot on with the taste that I was looking for. The best part is they will also make the dishes that are not on the menu for catering orders which was a game changer for me. The service was amazing and they delivered it perfectly! Thanks for making my event a hit!

Sara R.

Yelp
This may be one of the best Indian spots in Austin, the staff was very nice and patient with our orders and the food was absolutely delicious. Food came out very quickly. They have lots of options for food and drinks. Go check them out!

Hannah H.

Yelp
The food from here was amazing I ordered the chicken tikka masala, I haven't had good Indian food since before I moved away from St. Louis MO. The service is great they ask if you would like your food spicy or how much spice and is made fresh to order, another great this to order is the butter naan it's great to dip and scoop up your food with and adds great flavor. 10/10 we will be back.

Keith G.

Yelp
I heard about Indian Flames from a friend at work who raved about the food there, and it lived up to the hype! The menu looks amazing and the staff had some excellent recommendations. Service was incredible. The food was outstanding. It would take me the rest of my life to eat my way through their huge menu, but I'm definitely going to try!

Nikita G.

Yelp
I generally don't write reviews on yelp but this place is hidden gem. Every this was delicious. Specially panner tikka.

Ann Y.

Yelp
Having lived in Hackney, London in my youth, I've tasted lots of Indian food. Indian Flames is the best Indian food I've ever had outside England. Everything was tasty and freshly made. The Lamb Karahi was to die for! Today was our first visit to Indian Flames. I'm sure it will be the first of many. My compliments to the chef.

Maria R.

Yelp
Food was really good and the service incredible. I loved the garlic and onion naan. Chicken tandoori is a must

Sebastian M.

Yelp
As good as Indian food gets in Austin and they serve generous portions. I always leave content and full.

Michael S.

Yelp
I had the Samosa Chat twice. I really enjoyed it or I wouldn't have gotten it a second time. The outdoor seating area is very pleasant. And as a bonus you can get desert at Manolis!

Andrew D.

Yelp
By far the best Indian food I've ever had, hands down. Consequently my favorite restaurant!

Michelle A.

Yelp
Hands down the best food in south Austin. Every person I've recommended Indian Flames, tries it, and keeps going back. My personal favorites are the Shrimp Tikka Masala and the garlic naan. Service is excellent, everyone there is gracious and accommodating. Highly recommend.

Marisa H.

Yelp
The food and service were amazing! I cannot recommend this place enough especially if you have dietary restrictions. I cannot have dairy and they recommended the Tikka Marsala vegan style. It was delicious!!! Love this place!!!

Sydnie T.
