The Ingham Swan

"This 14C thatched pub now houses a contemporary restaurant, although its low beams and stone walls remain. Service is friendly, and cooking uses the best of the county’s ingredients in a range of dishes, from the classics to those showing more imagination and flair. Smart bedrooms are available in the converted coach house and a nearby cottage." - Michelin Inspector

Possibly one of the worst levels of service and dining experience ever. Factoring in that this is a Triple Rosette destination venue, in the Michelin guide it becomes THE worst. We visited the Ingham Swan, which is an hours drive for all guests, as a table of six for a birthday meal. To start no one showed us to our table from the waiting area. Overall, the food was average at best, largely over salted and one guests steak main was completely inedible, which was compounded by a lack of a check back from staff and the guest with the issue was left sitting with their plate untouched while the rest of us ate. Plates from the main course were left uncleared for well over twenty minutes including the above. When I went to the bar I found six staff including the duty manager standing around chatting instead of attending to guests. Further after clearing our table, an adjacent table who'd finished their mains prior sat for another two minutes without their plates cleared. The overall lack of awareness from staff is staggering. Having made clear how poor the evening and service was there was a token gesture of complimentary desert which was negated by a birthday cake they had held for the table. For any venue the service fell well below a sub standard level. For a destination which promotes itself as a superb dinning experience they were abysmal. In contrast, the following evening in London at a absolutely manically busy Dishoom restaurant, with a people queuing for 100m to get in, had some of the best ever encountered

Had the £100 tasting menu and it's worth every penny. Definitely won't be hungry after. Best use of asparagus I've ever tasted. Wine list excellent, cocktails masterfully crafted. Closer to Michelin than rosette level in my opinion. The property and grounds are immaculate. Everything is well thought out and serves specific purpose right down to the water jugs. Service is informative and of very high standards. Will definitely visit again when possible. Can't speak highly enough of everything they do here. Was an absolute pleasure.

Abysmal service at a so-called destination restaurant - Possibly the worst dining experience I've ever had and, for a Triple Rosette Michelin-listed venue, unquestionably the worst. An hour's drive for a birthday meal as a table of six delivered average over-salted food, one inedible steak with no check back, plates left for over twenty minutes, and staff- including the duty manager-chatting at the bar with staff instead of them serving. The only token gesture was a free dessert despite them already holding a birthday cake. For a venue that markets itself as a destination dining experience, it was abysmal.

Stayed in Room 4 ( loft room ) for 3 nights . Lovely clean room with excellent amenities . Cleaned daily with all coffee/ tea / biscuits replenished . Great to have a fan provided as the weather was very warm . It was great to have a lovely evening meal and then stroll across the courtyard to your room ! A couple of lovely walks towards Stalham . Great location for the coast too. Breakfast was excellent with lovely warm croissants . The full English is superb . Staff for breakfast are very smart and polite .

Food was incredibly delicious. Everything we had was well seasoned and full of flavour Staff were very professional, polite, attentive and helpful. Also very accommodating as there was a food intolerance issue and they went out of their way to assist.

This was our first time eating at The Swan and we were not disappointed. The Sunday roast was brilliant, very tender roast beef with roast potatoes, carrots, cauliflower etc. The starters including veloute and king prawns were light and delicious- cannot recommend highly enough. Our compliments to the chef and all the staff.

A last minute find wanting a nice lunch - we booked at 11am for a 1.30pm lunch. Was impressed we could be accommodated. First impressions were good; a nice restaurant room, polite, well turned out, and courteous staff. We went for the five course tasting menu for £60; one of us had the wine accompaniment for £35. The snacks were decent, a very nice liver parfait and a second less memorable one. The starter of mushrooms with and egg yolk and baron bigod snow was good - all the right combinations in the right way. The fish sea bass fish course with samphire and a split dill oil (I think) was nice but lacked a tad of seasoning - the samphire wasn't salty enough to hold it. The lamb main course had really lovely elements, a great sauce but was slight let down by a spiralised courgette and herb accompaniment that was leaching water and washed the intensity of the lovely flavour away. Two plain hasselback potatoes were out of proportion with the protein, which was one of the smallest pieces I have been served on a tasting menu. However, the lamb was delicious. One felt a little less potato and a bit more lamb, and possibly some lamb fat in the potato. I am being really picky in truth. The pudding soufflé was delicious; top class, beautifully standing out of the dish. |I only had a brief taste of the wine, but all seemed nice and appropriately picked - generous sizes too.|Service was very good; precise and reassuring around an allergy. It rather dropped off at the end - our pudding plates sat empty for almost thirty minutes infront of us.|However, in real terms the little holes I have picked in this are tiny. A five course tasing menu for £60, and under a £100 per person with wine is stunning value for what is served up. The food is precise, well though through, and very enjoyable. I know of almost no where which comes out at this level of value. It richly deserved its AA rosettes. Would I go again - absolutely - possibly for the evening menu and a room next time.|Thank you to the team at The Swan.

Stopped off here for dinner on a Sunday evening as it was one of the only places open near Hickling. Had a fantastic meal from the ‘menu du jour’. As well as being reasonably priced, all of the dishes we chose were creative and delicious. The setting was quiet and intimate, with the staff being very friendly and attentive. Thank you!
