"The Inn at Stonecliffe is located on a cliff on Mackinac Island, Michigan. The resort covers 15 acres and offers views of the Mackinac Straits. Built in 1904, it has been a family residence, a conference destination, a small college, and is now a hotel. After a $40 million renovation, it reopened in June 2024, retaining original features like stained glass windows and hardwood floors while adding modern amenities such as Wi-Fi and air conditioning. The Inn offers diverse accommodations, from mansion rooms to private cottages, and dining options including The Straits, Horsey’s, and The Backyard, managed by Executive Chef Joseph Nardo. Activities include lawn games, art classes, and a wellness center with a sauna and massage rooms. "Originally built in 1904, The Inn at Stonecliffe just underwent a property-wide transformation, rendering it the perfect retreat for immersing yourself in the charm of the island. The renovations are airy and modern, while still honoring the property’s Edwardian history. Expansive lakeside grounds are home to firepits and classic lawn games overlooking the magnificent views of Mackinac bridge and the straits connecting Lake Huron and Lake Michigan, while the restored apple orchard serves as a sanctuary for the island’s natural inhabitants including the addition of beehives, chicken coops, and a garden."

We stayed here for our 25th anniversary, and it is the most beautiful property we have ever stayed on. It is like being in a dream when the horse-drawn carriage circles around the front lawn to the beautiful entry! Molly and her team made sure everything was perfect for our stay. Our room in the mansion was beautiful, and the view of the backyard with Mackinac bridge in the distance was stunning! This property is a long carriage ride from downtown, but Stonecliff rents bikes, so you can pedal there in about 10 minutes. It's also an easy bike ride to arch rock, Fort Mackinac, and Fort Holmes. We walked back and forth to the downtown area a couple of times, and it takes about 30-35 minutes each way, which is long, but pleasant in good weather. You don't actually need to go anywhere, however. The food options offered by Stonecliff Inn are great, and there wonderful hammocks to relax in (we actually fell asleep in them!), corn hole to play, a sunset rock just behind the property, and wellness center with fitness equipment. We didn't use the pools, but it looked like there are comfortable lounge seats there. We also enjoyed the nightly s'mores around the firepits. Thank you, Stonecliff staff, for giving us a perfect anniversary trip to remember!

This is an amazing place. After the remodel, it's spectacular. The location is almost 2 miles from downtown Mackinac Island and it's very quiet. The service provided by the staff was outstanding...and everyone was so friendly and attentive. Thank you too Morgan and Nina in particular...you know who you are! These two ladies provided amazing service. This is a great alternative to The Grand...smaller and quieter. We will be back.

Our stay at The Inn was a step back in time, wrapped in the warmth of classic American hospitality. From the porch overlooking the Straits of Mackinac to the sprawling lawn dotted with Adirondack chairs, every detail exuded charm and tradition. The Inn is a sanctuary of tranquility, perched high above Lake Huron. The historic mansion, beautifully restore, offers a seamless blend of old-world charm and modern comfort. The attention to detail in the architecture, the warmth of the staff, and the peaceful surroundings make this a truly special place. From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere invites you to slow down; whether it's enjoying the views, wandering though lush gardens, or roasting s'mores by the fire pits. Our stay here was not just a getaway, but an experience in refined simplicity and quiet elegance.

We stayed four nights in the Summer House at Stonecliffe. The room was great, with great views of the Straits of Mackinac. All personnel we interacted with were very pleasant. The pools are excellent, as well as the nightly fires and s’mores. We typically have stayed downtown, but after seeing the transformation of Stonecliffe, we decided to check it out. It did not disappoint!! This place is fabulous!!

I was visiting family over the holiday and we dined at the Inn at Stonecliffe. The food was very good at both restaurants. They even have a general store with standard selection of homemade ice-cream with a seasonal flavor (cherry)! The team was friendly and the property was beautifully appointed. It is a bit off the beaten path (okay way far off), but that is part of the Inn at Stonecliffe charm.

Great location, ambience, and views! You felt like you were at your own private spot on the island away from the hustle. It was comfortable and the service was wonderful! The food was good overall. Loved the covered bike park area. We will definitely be back!

25th Anniversary celebration. My wife found The Inn at Stonecliffe while doing research on properties on Mackinac Island. The location is tucked away from the hustle and bustle (and perhaps overly touristy) Main Street. The setting is spectacular with the bay and the bridge as the backdrop for the Inn. The staff and service were on-point with every request. The food was great. The room was excellent. In short, my wife said it was "Perfect".

Yelp
Elegant dining experience. We were staying at the hotel and decided to give their restaurant a try since we were so tired and soaking wet from the rain all day. We made a reservation first. Dress code is business casual. They have a small Menu. We were delighted with our apps of fresh oyster $28 for 1/2 dozen and crispy pork belly $26. Delish! Our mains were Eagle Creek Farm trout $44, Perch $41, American Wagyu Cheeseburger $35. We capped our meal with their Strawberry Trifle its like this strawberry preserves with torched meringue. A bottle of Momo wine was $55. We did however wanted a Cakebread initially for $80 but they were out and the Momo was suggested by the server. Everything went well and good until we realized we were still charged the $80. We came back tje next day and had them fix it. Happy tummy though and indeed!

Yelp
This experience was amazing! The service was top notch, thanks to Max (from Madison!). The food was outstanding, certainly a cut above if you are looking for a true culinary experience. We tried a little of everything and shared it all. The Stonecliffe greens salad was like no other dinner salad. It had a shaved ham/ prosciutto with crunchy crouton crumbs, goat cheese and a delicious stone ground mustard vinegarette. We followed it with a crispy pork belly, with a yummy maple syrup glaze & a bit of jalapeños. We finished with the whitefish with a couscous & herbs...just delicious. Our compliments to the chef for a job well done! Alex the manager was such a gracious host and answered our questions and so much fun to talk with. You could tell he had put together a great team. Hats off to all for making it a great night. We look forward to staying at the Stonecliffe Inn again and sharing many more meals in the future.

Yelp
Wow. A truly magical property. The approach to the property is beautiful, the grounds immaculately kept and the staff elevated our stay-they were all so friendly, professional and attentive. Special touches abound. The Fall decor and flowers were perfectly balanced with the elegant interior and warm fireplaces. From the fresh cider and apple cake in the lobby to the yummy GIANT cookies in the room and the S'mores at night next to the crackling fires around the property....we wanted to stay for a week. We loved exploring the grounds, hiking in the woods and then coming back to our stunning room and super comfy bed. Can't say enough about this amazing property.

Stephen R.

Yelp
The experience is 5 star all the way. the only reason I give 4 stars is the room we had didn't have a mirror near the sink so I could shave! The food and staff was 5 star all the way. The lawn was incredible to let the kids play while we enjoyed the fire In the evenings. While cold the pools where amazing and had toys for the kids to play with along with floaties for the young kids.

Yelp
Great time, beautiful grounds, great rooms. Well worth the money, simply amazing!! Michigan at its best!!

Yelp
A beautiful Inn to stay at on this island. A protip: book in advance, rooms fill up on the island and the only available room was the suite. It is expensive but the hotel is beautiful, clean, the breakfast buffet had a scenic and tranquil view. Staff were so welcoming and already had our bags ready in our room on our arrival. Communication with staff was via text, which was new to me, and they sent a porter to retrieve and drop our bags to the ferry. There are no cars allowed on this island so renting a bike is a great idea unless you want to walk or take horse drawn carriage rides around the island.

Mike K.

Yelp
The Good: The grounds and people were nice and it was very quiet, sitting on the back porch in the evening was very pleasant. The bad: They are in serious need of a maintenance man that is proud of his work or more help if needed. Your first view pulling into the grounds is a broken light and another just sitting on the rock wall. Our bedroom window had years of peeling that look horrible when you walk into the room. Windows need to be cleaned and the pool wasn't ready for the season, they were swimming at "The Grand" They need a maintenance man for the off seasons to get this stuff done. There was no AC in our room in the mansion, not a big deal for us, and no elevator.

Yelp
Stayed here for our anniversary weekend with the Dine & Unwind package. What a special place in the world! From our room with a view of the Mackinac Bridge, to cocktails on the patio, everything was superb! Our special included a delicious dinner at the Cudahy Chophouse and beautiful breakfast buffet each morning, bubbly on the patio and chocolate dipped strawberries. We are bikers so we loved riding our bikes to the Inn while they transported our luggage. Staff was super kind and helpful and fun to chat with. Reservations to be made for same time next year.

Yelp
Historic, secluded, scenic hotel in the woods overlooking the water and bridge. The hotel is located down a road called the Annex up past the Grand Hotel. It is an enjoyable carriage ride up to an area of the island most people don't visit. As you arrive you see the converted mansion in the distance past the beautifully manicured front grounds. This sets the stage for the unique hotel experience. The backside of the main hotel has several patio areas for enjoying meals or drinks. We were here with our children and it was such a perfect setting to watch them run and play in the large large green field. This side of the hotel has a beautiful expansive view of the water and bridge. There is a small path leading into the woods off the field that meanders to a grotto area and gorgeous sunset viewing area. You can also access a series of hiking/walking paths. It's a wonderful place to do some exploring. The complimentary breakfast was the finishing touch on our stay! Next time we visit we will definitely dine at the Woods restaurant which is right next door.

Yelp
There are many lovely places to visit on Mackinac Island, but let me be as upfront as possible, The Stonecliff Inn is not one of them. The pictures and pricetag may suggest that this is a high end property - it is not. The rooms are run down, the grounds are in serious need of attention, and the staff openly ambivolent. We certainly understand the strains of operating a property during COVID-19, and I'm working to be as understanding as possible. I always go out of my way to provide support to service industry staff but I cannot here, they truly are the most significant issue of the many issues at The Inn at Stonecliff. The lack of effort on almost every front is the best indicator that you should look elsewhere for a lovely time on Mackinac.

Michelle B.

Yelp
Reserved two Woodland rooms in March ...4 months prior to our stay. We checked in today. One room is lovely, one room is the size of a tiny New York hotel room. Ridiculously small size for the amount of money it cost. I asked the front desk if we could have a larger room. Initially she said yes but then she said she didn't have a room after all. She said "is that okay?" Well, no but what are we supposed to say? Our other room is a very nice size. The size disparity should be reflected on the website. Truly a disappointment. The bartender was very pleasant. Food at the restaurant was mediocre.

Lance S.

Yelp
My wife and I came here for Labor Day weekend. The room was great. The staff were even better. It was really relaxing. I would come back and stay here again. The beds were really comfortable. The rooms are clean. The shower is really nice and hot. Everything was just the best. I thank them for making my visit a great one.

Yelp
The hotel is beautiful. However, it was difficult finding any front desk folks to check us in. We were short on towels and wash clothes, so I called the front desk and they said they would have a supply ready for us. When I arrived at the front desk to retrieve the towels, there was no one to be found, nor were there any towels. Thankfully, an employee at the front door brought a supply to our room. In light of this, I would suggest the purchase of a front desk bell to make it easier for guests to get help. Now for the breakfast. When I took my family to the Inn At Stonecliffe in 2010, their breakfast was one of the best we had ever had, and was a very memorable experience. Unfortunately, this year's breakfast was horrible. It consisted of oatmeal, oh wait, it was empty, pastries, oh wait those were gone too and were replaced with mini muffins from Sams Club, scrambled eggs, and the cheap McDonalds style sausage. When my son asked for oatmeal, the server told him that she would have to go in the back to get more, but she didn't offer to actually go in the back to refill the oatmeal. This was with an hour left of breakfast. My additional advice to Management, If you don't want to serve a nice breakfast, then don't serve it at all, or advertise it as continental. We would have gone into town if we knew breakfast would be such a disappointment.

Cindy S.

Yelp
This review is for the food truck and beer garden. We chose to eat here mainly because it has a great view of the sunset, which did not disappoint. We were pleasantly surprised as the food exceeded our expectations and ended up being our best meal on the island. We started with the mushroom soup, a special, which was earthy and delicious. My husband declared it the best thing he ate on the island. We then shared the poke bowl and the Mahi tacos. The poke bowl was my favorite dish on the island. It came with seared tuna, rice, two types of seaweed salad - regular and spicy, and cucumbers. Tuna is one of my go-to eats and this did not disappoint. It was light and fresh and tasty. The Mahi tacos were good and came with fried plantains which was a nice treat. The mahi was also fresh and tacos were good but the tuna was better (personal preference). The cocktails were also good. We ate on the lawn of Stonecliffe just before sunset and walked the short distance to Sunset Rock to watch the sunset. It was a great way to spend the evening.

Candice F.

Yelp
Hotel staff is rude and doesn't care about your experience. Paid a lot of money for a broken hotel room! We had a balcony room, the door would only open a tiny bit. Called maintenance and he was like "yeah, the door was hung wrong. This is the room everyone rips the handle off trying to open/close the door." Some outlets didn't work. Even the handle for the shower was broken off. Definitely not worth your money to stay here.

Jim G.

Yelp
I did not stay at this spot However, one of their porters took my suitcase from the dock to this hotel. The people at Island House searched the entire island for my missing case, The manager at Pine Island Cottage, which is owned by Island House and where we stayed, went to Inn at Stonecliff personally several times to see if they had my suitcase. The manager there didn't even bother to look. She just kept saying they had no luggage that didn't belong to them. The next day, when anew manager came on, they told Island House they did indeed have my missing suitcase.

Erin C.

Yelp
WOW - what a perfect place to stay! Off the beaten path but so nice to be up on the island and away from the hub of the crowds down below. We probably wouldn't have even made it up the hill had we not stayed up there, so I feel like we really got to see the entire island. Make sure you check out Woods Restaurant up there too - about 50 steps from the front door of the Stonecliffe. what an AWESOME place!!!

Yelp
If ever thinking of having your wedding here read on.... Wedding coordinator was completely unprofessional, she was not helpful at all. At rehearsal Bride, groom, and family were not greeted properly and were ignored. On wedding day, wedding coordinator & banquet manager were unhelpful, didn't have tables and linens ready for us to decorate, even though they told us prior everything would be set and ready. Staff made us feel like a burden while we were there, and we were never offered help. Just be prepared to not have any greeting or guidance from Stonecliffe staff.

Rob A.

Yelp
FYI.. this hotel is WAY out of town, not even close. At least 1.5 miles and UP a very large set of hills. Walking to or from is super difficult and biking will require walking bikes up large hills. The only other option is a horse carriage that takes almost 40 mins (on our trip). The mansion is nice. The summer house is okay, clean and friendly. Food was average but pricey. We will not repeat. I would suggest something much closer to town. The location was pretty but very very inconvenient. Overall the island was okay, but sadly the smell of horse poo is everywhere, I mean everywhere.

Glenn B.

Yelp
A little disappointed. Very pricy for an average meal. I ordered the chilien seabass and my wife ordered the roasted chicken. Both meals had too much salt. The food was warm, but not hit like it should have been. It tasted good once you got past the initial shock of the salt. Wanted to get the creme brûlée, but all they had left was keylime pie and macaroons. The pie was good. Go to the Woods next door, cheaper and much better food.

Ryan W.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place and will stay here the next time I visit the island. The route up to the inn is very scenic. We walked up from the city in under 45 minutes; much easier and more enjoyable than what it looks like on a map. We also rented bikes from the inn to take downtown for dinner and drinks. Once you get up to the inn you quickly realize how amazing the grounds are; beautifully maintained with an amazing view of the Mackinac Bridge. There is a huge yard with games great for kids and adults both and everything is immaculate. The pool area was clean and very peaceful. You can really feel the authentic colonial-style architecture inside the inn but everything is very well maintained. The staff are also extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I cannot wait for my next trip to the island and the Inn at Stonecliffe!

Alex W.

Yelp
Never going back. Hotel staff was unfriendly. We paid a lot of money for a one night stay and their hotel is near the back of the island away from everything. This place has the audacity to charge 75 dollars a day for bikes. Never, under any circumstances, should a hotel you almost pay 500 dollars a night for, charge such an outrageous fee for bikes. Tv also didn't work in our room. Was going to give it two stars because of the view, but that has nothing to do with the people who run the hotel.

Kelly M.

Yelp
I don't often go out of my way to slam a business, but in this case it is warranted and serves as a true warning to other potential guests. . We went to the Island to enjoy a family reunion/wedding and instead were met with some of the MOST rude staffers we've ever encountered. The bartender, James, was an absolute nightmare who did nothing to hide his disdain for his customers and his job. He berated guests for being impatient (which we were only because he refused to serve us -- he was spending more time on his phone than on his job). He intentionally closed the bar early one night because he didn't want to deal with the crowd. And the day before our family member's wedding, while another wedding party was queuing up to walk out to the ceremony, he was intentionally disruptive and rude at a time when the wedding party should have been enjoying the moment prior to the big event. From a guest experience, our toilet was broken when we arrived ... and our bedroom (we had a one-bedroom suite) had no windows. It felt like a tomb in there. The front desk was combative and seemed to go out of their way to avoid helping customers. And though they promoted offering bikes for rent - and obviously had more than enough bikes to offer guests - they didn't let guests know in advance that bikes only can be checked out if they have licenses for them, provided by the city. The hotel is limited as to how many licenses they can release, and therefore only a few members of the wedding party were able to rent bikes to get around the island. The others were forced to walk the two miles to the City, or hire a horse "taxi" which took at least an hour - and often two - to respond and get to the hotel for pick up. (Truly bikes are the only real way to get around the island comfortably). AND - one of the bikes we rented broke during the ride, and the hotel INSISTED that our guests were supposed to CARRY the bike back a mile to the hotel. Mind you, it was a tandem bike. And the brakes had locked, so the wheels couldn't move. Yet, it took three different calls and working through the ranks to get anyone to finally agree to pick up their faulty equipment, while the guests walked back to the hotel. The experience could have been beautiful. In general, the hotel was pretty, the grounds were gorgeous, the accommodations were nice enough. But the customer service was so disastrous that it outweighed nearly any positive experience we might have enjoyed there. Like I say - I don't go out of my way often to do this, but we all want others to be forewarned. Oh - the only saving grace and one positive customer experience we had was with Stefanie, the general manager. Fortunately at least she knew how to do her job and did get our toilet fixed within the first couple of hours of our stay. To her, we express our gratitude.

Dorothy F.

Yelp
Our group of 15 had reservations for dinner tonight. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. The service was atrocious. Sat down to a set table, waitress took orders for cocktails, beer and wine. waited 30 mins for our cocktails (no exaggeration). Others ordered wine and that took even longer. When one basket of 4 rolls were put on the table (no butter), then someone got around to giving us plates for rolls then we hsd to ask for rolls for the rest of the table. Some got salad, others wanted soup but never got there soup before their main course so they just said to forget the soup. This all took a lot of time. Our 630 reservation finally got us or main course at 8pm. Our messy plates were still on the table when we were leaving. Had no time for coffee or dessert or v after dinner drinks because we finished three main course at 9pm. We all talked about how horrible this service was. The worst service I , personally, have EVER had. Our group was part of the Mackinac Race and you can be assured we will not return next year. If your kitchen can't get if together to serve 15 people I feel sorry for people paying for a wedding!

Matt L.

Yelp
What a beautiful place! My wife and I had a small wedding there and everything went off exactly as we had hoped. Just about everyone that worked there was incredibly helpful and pleasant and those that weren't just seemed like they were stressed from taking on extra responsibilities that aren't typically theirs (staffing changes due to COVID). Unless you are looking for a more old-world feel, I recommend staying in the Summer Cottage area rather than the Mansion, but both are beautiful and have their own charm to them.

Tim S.

Yelp
If you don't mind being off the beaten track stay at this Hotel next door to the Wood's Restaurant. It is beyond the Grand Hotel by a bit of a hike so if you plan on goofing around on the Main Drag till the wee hours make sure there are still cabs running... it is a LONG walk or have a Bike Rented for trip home.

Ruth T.

Yelp
Stayed in Summer House. Service was excellent, everybody was very helpful. The restaurant in Stonecliffe was very good. Just a beautiful spot on a beautiful island.

Randy G.

Yelp
The beautiful grounds, views both in the front and in the back of the bay and bridge, and the spacious rooms, is what sold me on stonecliff. All of these where spectacular when we arrived, they met all my high expectations, it was just the staff that made it lose two stars. Stonecliff is not near the main drag. It's not walkable for most people from the dock. You'll want to taxi or bike it. It's about two miles from the dock. On the way there, you'll pass through the woods that are beautiful and pass several hiking trails that I recommend trying out. It's a beautiful ride to the hotel too. Arriving, the grounds in the front are beautiful. It has a large lawn with these enormous trees creating a high canopy so it feels really open, but still shaded on parts and still some sunlight in others. The look of the place is also beautiful. It has this older stone look giving it some nice character. The room was extremely spacious, bigger than I anticipated with a small suite-like area to sit down on instead of just one room like most places. The view in the back is open to view the bay and a great shot of the bridge. The view will not disappoint you. If I had to stop the review now, it would have received five stars. They lose two because of the people. It's a shame that it was the customer service that did it. Upon arriving, we walked up to the porter to have him deliver our bags to the hotel. Everything seemed okay and it wasn't until we arrived at the hotel that we learned the porter should have given us a ticket for our baggage. They didn't know who was on the porter shift and couldn't radio to him to make sure our bags where in the right place. We didn't know if we gave it to the right person. The luggage did arrive without complication, just some worrying which could have been abated. The larger reason for losing two stars is attributed to their dining room manager. We went to their restaurant for dinner and after asking us if we had a reservation, which we did not, the desk staff told us that we could sit outside at the bar and eat with a limited menu or find the dining room manager to ask her if we can be squeezed in. At this time, the dining room with a full menu has only 25% of tables full. The desk staff told us to find her in the bar, we walked over, asked for her, no one could find her, we walk back to the desk where we were two minutes earlier and they looked at us as though they never seen us and told us the same story on where to find her. Finally they found her in the back. She told us the same thing that they are full and the bar is the only option with the limited menu. Reluctantly we chose that option and although the food was good, it took over 10 minutes for the appetizer, then 20 min for the sandwich and salad. Throughout dinner, I watched the dining room and even though they didn't have any open reservations available, the place never filled up. I confronted the manager inquired about it never filling up, but not allowing us to have a full menu. Her response was that the kitchen is small and they would be overwhelmed if they sat too many people in the dinning room. What I didn't understand is that the bar food is coming from the same kitchen. I think she should have offered the full menu, but warned us that it may take longer for our food due to the kitchen size conditions and no reservations. If they get an improvement in customer service, I would be willing to pay what we did, but if they don't, it's not worth the price.

Yelp
Had our wedding at Stonecliffe on July 6,2013. We booked nearly 30 rooms and the service and attention to detail was wonderful.. We had out wedding in the grotto, it is beautiful, The Inn has the best views on the island and you are away from all the hustle and bustle of town. If you wish to visit downtown, it is only 20-30 minutes by bike or walking, max. The food is superb and the caring by the staff made our event the best. We have been there twice in the past 2 months, spending a week at the Inn. Highly recommended!! Dan & Shannon

Yelp
A beautiful mansion away from the madding crowd. We love the island and always enjoy our time there. Because of short scheduling, the island accommodations were tight and we found a room at the Inn. It's pricey although most accommodations on the island are. Our room was huge with a king sized bed and spotless. There was no air conditioning, but a fan was provided if needed and the room had a bank of windows on two walls so there was a wonderful cross breeze. The included breakfast was a self serve buffet with scrambled eggs, ham, pancakes, fresh fruit and assorted breads and juices. The Inn is so far removed from the downtown that bikes are a necessity or plan on a horse drawn taxi/shuttle to and from town. It's anywhere to a 30-60 minute wait/ride using the horses. We rented bikes there and toured the island before returning for dinner. Our dinners were very well prepared- I had the whitefish while my spouse had the filet mignon. The food was delightful and the service was great. My only critical comment is in regard to the desk staff. Flippant would be a good description and borderline rude. The example would be that a man tried to get checked in early to prepare for a wedding in about three hours. He was told that the room wasn't ready and wouldn't be for a while. He asked if there was a way to get in earlier and was told no. He asked to check in now and wait for the room to be cleaned and was told he had to wait. Finally he asked if there was anyway to get the room cleaned faster and he was told that he could clean it himself. We were essentially told our room wasn't ready and to come back later. We did, and when we checked in, my husband asked if our suitcase was taken to our room. The woman replied, "no, we didn't know which room you would be in and we didn't know whose suitcase was yours". That would be the only one sitting on the porch with a name tag. Hard to explain but it seemed as though customer service was lacking. We most likely won't stay at the Inn at Stonecliffe again because of the remoteness of the location but would encourage others to come here as overall it was a good experience

Yelp
Lovely old mansion with fine dining available. Nice martini, ordered Mussel appetizer, lobster bisque and caesar shrimp salad. Jeff ordered portabella stuffed mushrooms, lobster Bisque and the Crusted White Fish. A lot going on this 4th July weekend. Finer dining, did get a window table, the white tablecloth looks like it wadded up in a drawer for a couple years. mussels are unique and tasty, portabella stuffed mushroom delightful with a sweet touch that Jeff shared and then devoured. Peach cobbler is so good! Jeff enjoyed the white fish. Service was delightful

Yelp
I guess I was a little disappointed. I booked a last minute reservation and found out when I got there that I was booked in the "summer house" and not the mansion. The summer house is essentially a hotel next door. My room was large but not that nice. For example, the tub/shower was a plastic insert rather than tile. Everything worked and was clean but it just seemed a little average. The fridge and heater were noisy and I turned them off to sleep and heard most of the conversations in the room next door. The staff was ok but not super friendly. The included breakfast was served in the mansion but the quality was only a little better than a budget hotel. The sausage and eggs tasted a little bland. The location and scenery were great. I hope to get back to the island but may search elsewhere for accommodations.

Yelp
We have come here for the last two years in a row. The first year we stayed in the Mansion. This year we are in the summer house. The staff is fantastic. When our room was not made up when we walked in, they put us in a nicer room to compensate. I highly recommend eating at the Inn as well. We have had fantastic food two years in a row. Everything on the menu is amazing. Don't miss this. Just as good as The Woods, if not better.

Yelp
I've never known a staff so disinterested in service to either their current clients or those prospective ones calling to inquire about the Inn. The mansion is lovely and is being fairly well maintained. It could use some work, but that could easily be overlooked if the staff gave the least bit of care about its guests or promoting the facility. While there, they were unable to provide adequate information about anything on the island. However, the saddest thing is that there is an elegant dining room with a beautiful menu. However, there is no signage regarding the dining hours. We ate there several years ago, and I would have given the meal and service a 10/10. However, when you ask what the hours are, they simply tell you you should make a reservation. In four nights, we saw only one person eating in the main dining room in the evening. While in town, we stopped at the Visitor Center to ask directions for something else. When we mentioned that we wished to end our walk at Stone Cliff, the staff asked if we would please, please let them know that their phone had been out for over 24 hours and messages wee coming in for reservations. We expressed this to the front desk when we returned and they informed us that this does happen. When I told them they might want to call immediately so they could gather phone numbers and return calls, they just stared at me. The breakfast each morning was amazing. The bartender was absolutely a great bartender and engaging in conversation. However, the remaining staff seems as though they are there as an after thought. If you pick up your luggage, someone comes by and asks if they should help. If you ask directions, they cannot offer a map or any verbal instructions. The worse part of any of this (which can all be rectified) is that they just don't seem to care. There is no excuse for such an historic piece of architecture to have this kind of staff. And, next door at The Woods, the staff is top notch and the food is superb. Perhaps Mr. Pulte should consider closing the restaurant inside Stone Cliff and restoring more mature, caring staff for the Bed and Breakfast portion of the Inn, so as not to ruin his reputation.

Yelp
We stayed in the mansion on the 3rd floor. It was cold and the heater didn't seem to work. The water in the shower was luke warm also. The windows also raddled due to the wind. I had higher expectations for the price.

Yelp
Great place to stay, nice staff, a good breakfast, dinner is good but a bit pricey though, the mansion rooms are wonderful, I cannot say for the condos they do look nice from what I can see and they do have AC which the mansion does not. The new televisions in the mansion rooms took little away from the charm but were helpful for the weather channel. 5 star might not be good enough for the Stonecliffe.

Yelp
Beautiful, hidden treasure of Mackinaw Island. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, Stonecliffe is the place. Great dining accommodations, including 'The Woods' just around the corner. And the patio! In my opinion, the best view on the island!

Yelp
Great dinner. The dining room and view was amazing. A little bit of a trek out of Downtown but worth it. Ok wines but reasonable corking fee if you want to bring a special bottle.

Yelp
This is our second stay at Stonecliffe Inn. We stayed two nights in the Snowberry this time. It was a large room with king size bed. All mansion rooms have been updated this season. We live the decorations. They have maintained the original character of the mansion. It is very quiet here compared to the hussel bussek of main town. It is a 30 minute walk to town, or a 10 min bike ride. Taxi's and shuttles run to and from as well. We mostly walk for the exercise. We love this place. We will keep coming back.

Yelp
Nice people, place to see, and eat breakfast, otherwise, hot unaircondidioned rooms. The dinner we had there was whitefish and chicken. The whitefish was pretty good, the smoked whitefish pate was better. The michigan cherry chicken portion for my wife's dinner was a thigh quarter with lots of fat and bone...not a stuffed chicken breast, and not worth $25! She was feeling ill after trying to eat the 2tbs of meat! The grounds were great, especially since you can walk to other properties where you can actually see the sunset. If the weather is cool, you should be good with the hot upper floor. The manager and head waiter were excellent folks.

Yelp
We had a WONDERFUL stay! This inn is a couple miles from the docks and worth the taxi ride. Service was great, room was clean, and breakfast in the veranda in view of the bridge is simply priceless.

Yelp
We visited this inn for dinner. We got the 5 course meal for $35. The meal started off with amuse Bouche. It had onions and goat cheese on it. The next course was a BLT soup, then onto the Caesar salad. For the main course I had steak with blue cheese. Finally I finished off my meal with a cherries Jubilee. Everything tasted very good I only had a couple of minor complaints. My steak was slightly overcooked and I did not care for the dessert as much as I thought I would. The service was great and the views were awesome. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Yelp
The best hotel on the island for the large backyard, close to hiking locations, and far from the tourist.

Yelp
My husband and I recently attended a family wedding here. You could not have asked for a more beautiful setting. The Grotto where the ceremony took place was beautiful, and the views of the bridge from the tent where the reception was held were gorgeous. The food however was just so-so. The appetizers that were served were very unimpressive, and the meal was not much better. Everyone at our table received one roll and butter, and a small salad. My husband had the Cherry Chicken, which was supposed to be a chicken breast, stuffed with goat cheese and cherries. The chicken was a chicken breast, it was instead a small (very small) leg quarter. It looked like it was from a Cornish hen, not a chicken, there was about four bites of meat. This was accompanied by a small scoop about a half cup of mashed potatoes, and a few slivers of summer squash. I had the 5 oz. Filet which was, not even an inch thick. It was good, but seemed more like a sirloin filet, and not beef tenderloin. I am sure our hosts paid way too much for the food that was served. As far as the venue went, it was worth every penny they paid, because the scenery was beautiful.

Yelp
This is really for Cudahy Chophouse (Dining) at The Inn at Stonecliffe. WOW!! Lovely spot to "be" here, just sitting together, even if all else failed. But they do not fail. The service is lovely and the food divine. We were there off-season and had the entire dining room to ourselves all the way through an early supper. They have a longstanding, proud reputation to uphold and they do so in every respect. Everything here was perfection -- the attentive service, salad, entree, coffee & desert. I won't detail what we ordered as it was a couple years back and I couldn't be precise. What I can say for certain is that the memory of our lovely dinner here during the off-season remains fresh and wonderful to revisit. Other than their dining room, the facility and its grounds are gorgeous. The staff is truly hospitable and kind. Love the place and its staff (we stay at Harbour View Inn, which is a "sister Inn" to Stonecliffe). We have also hiked in along the various back roads to enjoy picnic sandwiches while seated on the Inn's Adirondack chairs out back, overlooking their expansive, grassy field, with the Mackinac Straights and its choppy surface glistening in the sun. (sidebar: I noticed a review from another perspective; no reservation and not invited into the dining room (a mostly empty dining room). There are numerous reasons why this can happen due to the nature of the industry--especially so with the remote location of Stonecliffe, which makes staffing and reservation seatings critical. It's a shame for anyone to walk or ride a horse-drawn taxi away from Stonecliffe with a grudge or axe to grind.)

Yelp
Just left the Inn at Stonecliffe this morning. What a wonderful experience. Daniel and Cody at the front desk, Jocelyn our server at the Cudahy Chophouse, Hugh who does the breakfast, and all the other staff at the Inn made this visit wonderful. Stayed in the Cudahy Room in the Mansion - what a view!!! Room was lovely!! Dinner at the Cudahy Chophouse was amazing. Highly recommend the Cherry Chicken. Out of town and the hustle and bustle of it. Very nice to walk around the grounds at sunset and watch the bridge at night from our room. Thank you to all the staff for making this a wonderful vacation for my husband and I.
