Yelp
This is a difficult review for me. On one hand, the food, menu, prices were sub-par. On the other hand, I love the idea that a chef and her partner are able to live out their dream and thoroughly understand the excitement behind wanting to present your favorite dishes on your very own menu. I'm not sure if reading the other reviews before going set me up for disappointment or not, but disappointed I was.
I will say though, they had just wrapped up a party of 30 and being in the business, I understand. But still.
The Inn is cute enough and is situated on the water, though there is not much access to it. The outdoor seating area also looks out over some of the additional cottages on the property. When we were there, late at night, there were some guests playing some sort of sport about 15 feet away from us. It really killed the romance factor. We waited for about 45 minutes for our table and then wound up at this tiny little table stuck in the corner of the patio, unfortunate. While we waited, we sat at the little indoor bar they have and had a cocktail. It was the bar tenders first night and he had clearly been left to sink or swim. He handled himself quite well though. He was very polite and made an effort to converse even though he was having trouble with the computer, because no one had shown him how to use it. Although they were not able to make me a dark and stormy, they were able to make my friend a nice raspberry mojito, so points for that.
So here's what we ate, with all of the details I can remember.
We shared a Caesar salad, which was very watery. Crisp, but watery, which really ruins a Caesar. Apparently they have a house special bread that they serve, but they were out, so we didn't get to try it. We had a lovely little loaf of something else though. My friend ordered the duck with high hopes, but was disappointed. The duck itself was just okay. It had a marshmallow sauce, which overpowered it. It was served with what I believe was a brown rice. But the rice was so overcooked cooked and drown in the marshmallow sauce that I couldn't tell. It was also served with corn. Just kernels of corn. For the price of this meal, I certainly expected, well, more. I am personally against serving two starches with a meal, unless it's Latin of coarse. I really did expect some beautiful, fresh summer vegetable concoction, but didn't get it. I ordered the shrimp curry, which was just that, shrimp curry. It was certainly better than the duck. It was served with rice. Different rice than my friends, but still very much over cooked. The curry was average curry, though it did have a smooth taste with just a bit of heat and a nice coconut flavor. The dish was served with too much sauce, which made the rice experience that much worse. I will say though, the shrimp was cooked perfectly. There were rave revues of the desert and even though we were very dissatisfied with the food, we decided to try desert. We ordered the banana napoleon. I can't really say how I felt about this objectively though, because I only like bananas when they're in the peak of ripeness and cooking them makes them too sweet for me. So the banana's were too sweet, they seemed to have forgotten the filo dough and there was so much sauce and melted whip cream that the whole thing was a bit soggy.
The high point of the meal was the two new and absolutely delicious beers we got to taste. We had two local South Hampton beers, which made us new fans of South Hampton beers.
I would say that if I am in the neighborhood again, I would give it another shot, considering they seemed to have had a bad night. But at $160.00 for dinner for two, I just can't afford it.
