Our visit to The Ivy Richmond started a little unevenly. I was initially served a very dirty glass, and the bottled beer arrived warm. To be fair, the staff addressed this once it was pointed out, and the situation was handled.
We went in with fairly modest expectations, as The Ivy tends to receive mixed reviews. However, after that initial hiccup, the experience improved significantly and, in fact, turned out to be very good.
The food was excellent from start to finish. The starters were well prepared and enjoyable, and the main courses followed at the same strong level — well executed, flavourful, and satisfying throughout. Nothing felt rushed or careless once the meal was underway.
The dining room itself is beautiful, with a very pleasant and lively atmosphere. It’s an easy place to feel comfortable, and the overall ambiance is one of the restaurant’s real strengths.
In the end, the pricing felt entirely appropriate for what was delivered. Taking everything into account, it turned into a very nice experience overall — one that clearly exceeded our initial expectations after a slightly bumpy start.
