What an absolutely OUTSTANDING journey! I use journey on purpose, because there is no way you could call what is served at The Japanese a “meal”. The delicate, creative and diverse flavours and textures, enhanced by a presentation which turns each dish into a true work of art, to be admired before it is enjoyed, transported me straight into heaven. After each course, I thought the previous one couldn’t possibly be topped- and each time, I was surprised anew. Dining at The Japanese is superb, easily among the top 3 best culinary experiences of my life. I simply cannot wait to return. Meanwhile, a ❤️felt thank you to chefs Dominik and Fabio, as well as to your team including the charming wait staff.

Amazing restaurant! Excellent food. Exquisitely prepared and presented beautifully! The icing on the cake was when the restaurant's chefs (twins) came out and asked us about our impressions of the dishes. The only thing I forgot to tell them, besides words of admiration, was that they should open a restaurant like this in Paris so the French could experience true haute cuisine))!

Very easily one of our favourite restaurants, and we will definitely return! We had an excellent 7-course menu with high-quality sourced ingredients, which were exceptionally well cooked and paired tastefully with beautiful porcelain. The pairing of Japanese sake with each course was exceptional—something new for myself. The staff are really outstanding, with a genuine willingness to engage with the guests and share their opinions. Their knowledge was remarkable, from the menu to the fermentation process of each sake or the origins of the cutlery. If they didn’t have an answer to a question initially, they made a point of finding out and returning with a very thorough answer. Furthermore, their fluency in English and German made it comfortable to communicate. The whole experience exceeds your expectations, and its 2 stars are well deserved. The Japanese restaurant alone is well worth planning a stop in Andermatt for!

Great service in an intimate setting. The Japanese offers 22 different options to build your own Kaiseki experience. There is a mix of traditional and modern interpretations, along with some more Swiss inspired courses. I really enjoyed the sashimi and sushi in the cold starters and the duck for main. The pineapple dessert was worth adding and exceeded its description. I also appreciated the extensive tea selection. I had four different Japanese teas that matched to the courses. Not an official pairing, but ask and they can recommend some delicious tea. A great experience if you’re already at the Chedi.
