The Jericho Café & Tavern

The restaurant had a nice and relaxed atmosphere. It felt friendly and very all-American. The service was great; the staff were kind and attentive without hovering. The food was consistently good. The short ribs were rich and flavorful, the salads were fresh with the right amount of dressing and cheese, and the fries were crisp and well seasoned. Everything tasted like it was made with care and good ingredients. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a solid meal with friends in a comfortable setting. I’d go back.

Took the family here while in vacation. Our service was great and the place has a really cool atmosphere. The corn bread is not what you would think if you are from the south. It was more like a muffin with a fruit inside. Would not recommend. The chicken, hand cut fries, and specials were all on point.

I am in town for a short time and was catching up with an old friend who suggested lunch at this beautiful restaurant. The weather was hot though I love the sound of the beef bourguignon and after a brief conversation with our server decided to get it. I was completely wowed by how incredibly lean the meat was- rather than cubed it was more of a delicious Savory pot roast with tons of caramelized onions and marinated mushrooms over green beans. It was a very generous portion that I could not finish and was sad that time would not permit me taking the rest home. I raved about my meal and told the server I hope there was a dog nearby that could enjoy the rest of the meat as I hated for any of it to go to waste. Our server was lovely and attentive, and revealed at the end of the meal that she appreciated Our Kind review as it was her family's restaurant. The atmosphere was lovely and clean the iced tea and coffee were delicious and I will tell everyone that I see on this trip to get out there and experience it for themselves.

We were seated outside at the patio on a sunny fall day. We had a light lunch with soup and salad. Soups were fresh and tasty. The brussel sprouts tasted good but perhaps a bit too much seasoning.

Established cafe with indoor and outdoor dining. Had a delicious breakfast of perfectly prepared eggs, bacon, hash browns and homemade toasted honey oat bread. Staff was courteous and efficient. Nice to eat on the outdoor covered porch on a beautiful summer morning. Breakfast cost $17.00. I look forward to eating there again.

This place was recommend to us when we visited the Town of Essex Free Public Library. We were looking for a good meal and a cold drink. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. If we're in the area again, it will be one of our stops.

Overall a disappointment. It's a nice place. The food was overall underwhelming for the cost. The truffle fries were over cooked and soggy, average at best. My wife has the Wedge Salad and the lettuce was waterlogged from not properly draining after rinsing it. The salad fixings and dressing amount was insufficient for the size of the lettuce and cost. I had the JCat stacker and for the cost it was only average in taste and size. Overall the value was not there. My daughter has the Classic Burger which was just average. Her Caesar sale also was underwhelming. The waiter was also slow to check in with us. Overall this restaurant looks nice from the outside and inside but there is no value in the quality of food or service. I understand in 2025 the food costs have risen a great deal but this restaurant is a pass for use going forward. Average at best.

Love this local restaurant and bar. Also has a small Cafe and pastry counter service if you are so inclined. If they have their smoked ribs available I highly recommend. Likewise with almost any of their dishes. Plenty of options available, regular rotation of various seasonal specials. All have been excellent. Wrap around patio is great for relaxing drinks or meal. The parking lot can routinely be very busy, some parking available along the boulevard, but sometimes can be challenging. They have regular music on Fridays and Weekend nights, which is nice. The bar space can be a little tight with the band squeezed in, but overall pleasant.

Absolutely LOVED this spot. The food was so incredibly good and the service was awesome. I showed up right at open (because I got kicked out of my hotel for check out) and they were so sweet. When I was a server I used to hate when people would show up right at open but they were the best. The place is so cozy with so many good views. Lots of windows to look at scenery and a patio :) 10/10

Food- Good beers but the stout is too peanut buttery. Ugh! Wings done very well. Mac n cheese needs more cheese and a bit of pepper. Sweet potatoes fries are good. Service- attentive Ambiance- typical tavern

Absolutely in love with this gem of a place! We ended up here purely by luck and randomly, because we got lost in trying to get up to the Cliff House on top of Mansfield Mountain (hello, taking the gondola!) Anyhoo, we ended up being so HUNGRY and in our lost state, we ended up just asking a Good Samaritan who told us to check out this little place for brunch! We finally made it around 1:20 (Christmas Eve, too, BTW) and they were closing at 2pm. I felt that at any other place, any party waltzing in about half hour prior to closing would be met with an attitude and / or an eye roll. But not the staff at Jericho Tavern! They were so warm, friendly and welcoming!! We sat down and had some amazing grub! We weren't rushed at all either. The waitress was kind and friendly and patient. I had Steak and Eggs (for extra protein!) which was cooked to perfection - truly yummy! And I never get Steak & Eggs usually. The coffee was also delicious and my hubby had the CUTEST and scrumptious hot chocolate! I would love to come back to this cozy nice place with some TRULY tasty diner options! Loved it, loved it, loved it!

Service was great, the atmosphere was pleasant, however, the food was mediocre. For the price and a place that has brunch as a selling point, I was very disappointed in the Eggs Benedict. I ordered the standard style Benedict. The poached eggs were solid with no runny yolk at all. Hollandaise was almost nonexistent, so I can't really comment on whether it was good or not. The muffin was so tough I had to saw through it (gave up) and the home fries were mostly skins with no potato. I will say, my fellow diners enjoyed the omelet, brisket Benedict and chicken sandwich though none ate their fries or home fries. The other poached eggs were similar to mine, but my friend said they were 'ok'. Maybe if I had another dish, I'd feel differently, but it's not return worthy for the cost...

Mrs. Martin Vanzo gives this restaurant 5 stars for its food quality. And its service also gets 5 stars. The atmosphere is a 10 out of 10. The wings are especially good. The maple chicken chili BLT is also excellent.

This place was so good we went three times during our stay in Jericho, VT. We tried something different every time we went and it was always so good. Service was good, and it's so cozy and small the ambiance was good too.

Father's Day Brunch was excellent, plenty of everything at the buffet table and wait staff circled round with trays of more samples. We have been here several other times and have never been disappointed. The staff are very friendly and nice.

The food was absolutely PHENOMENAL! My wife got the jcat stack and I had the beef on 'weck. My wife loved the pepper jam on it so much, she's talking about finding a way to make it at home, since it's a burger must have for her now. The beef on 'weck was also amazing, perfectly juicy with a nice amount of fat on the meat. The staff were really nice and the place had a very cozy vibe to it as well.

Great brunch on a Sunday. Great service and wonderful food. What more can you ask for ? Will definitely be back and highly recommend!

In all my reviews I give yes yes or no no's This is a NO We have ate here 2 times. Both times the service was great, but both times the food has been mediocre, I wouldn't feed this to my dog on our worse days. Their steaks are smothered in a barbecue sauce. The meatloaf is bland. The chicken is bland. Everything is unseasoned.

Food rating 5 stars. Speed or service rating 2 stars. 10 minutes for waitress to come to table just to drop off waters. Then another 5 minutes later she offers to let us order just drinks. Drinks arrived 25 min after being seated.

We went to dinner there last night for our mother's 72th birthday. Our reservation was for 6:15, we finally received water at 6:45 from the busser. We asked if we could order drinks with him, he told us that we would have to wait for our server. I believe he could feel our frustration, the hostess came over and apologized for the wait time and gave us a 30.00 gift card. Next, we finally order drinks, my husband orders a beer (Sip of Sunshine) and we order a bottle of wine (Bonanza). The waitress comes back 5-7 min later to tell us they are out of the beer he requested and the bottle of wine we ordered. So my sister and I decided to get a dirty martini, it was so salty you could barely drink it. In return I ask for just a glass of wine, that was good. We finally placed our dinner order, after waiting again our server comes back and says they are out of the Butternut Squash Ravioli, which two of us ordered it, so we needed to look at the menu again. I ordered the steak, that was cooked to the correct temperature and was delightful, my sister ordered the meatloaf it looked like it had been sitting under the warming lights for days, the sauce on top was hardened and the meatloaf was dry and hardly edible. I understand it's "wing night" on Mondays, and it's busy so we were prepared for that. The extended wait time, the lack of the food quality, and mediocre service was such a disappointment. Sad to say, we will not be going back anytime soon.

Just had dinner at JCAT, really wish you would go back to using semolina and flour mixe for your fried fish. That is the proper way to make a New England fried fish- dinner , is also a great mixture for shrimp and or thin sliced onion rings !!! Just and idea. A plan flour dredge just doesn't work!

A friend recommended the Jericho Cafe & Tavern to us. We went our first night in town and wound up with butternut squash soup and clam chowder. The clam chowder was the best I have ever had, even in Boston. We then split a Reuben and a Beef on Weck sandwich. I had a hot apple cider to drink. Here's the best part. We liked it so much, we went again the next night. This time it was the pretzels with fondue cheddar cheese and another bowl of the clam chowder. Diner was a squash salad with salmon and fish and chips. I managed to get two hot apple ciders down. In addition to excellent food, the waitstaff was friendly, personable and focused on excellence. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Burlington. Highly recommended if you're anywhere close to Burlington.

The Warm Kale Salad did not disappoint. Very tasty with goat cheese and nuts. Staff friendly.

We went here for a late lunch. To meet some friends we haven't seen since last year. Our reservation was for 1 pm. We had to wait about 15 minutes. Due to limited seating. The service was excellent. The burgers were very good,and the fries were bountiful. Everyone in our party was happy. The ambiance was excellent!

Here for brunch on a Saturday. Not too busy. Hot tea-too cold for tea to steep. Eggs Benedict with salmon, cold and slimy. Potatoes- cold. Omelet ok not great. Service was good and friendly.

We stopped in late Sunday afternoon, before dinner time. I got New England clam chowder that was delicious, but barely warm, and a Ruben with fries that were also delicious. Our service was not so good. The waitress took our order and delivered it. Never came back to refill our drinks or check on us once. We had to hunt her down for the check. I would love to try it agai, but my husband has no interest in going back.

Awesome. Definitely a place that has kind of an old school feel, our waiter was very nice and the food was fantastic. I had corn beef hash and asked them to burn it, which is how I like it, and THEY ACTUALLY DID. Might be the best corn beef hash I've had in years. My wife had the standard eggs and toast absolutely above average too. We will definitely be back!!!

I've driven by this place hundreds of times and finally decided to stop in. I'm glad I did. The truffle fries were delicious! I would also recommend the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich.

What an adorable and Vermonty place to visit. Let's start with the interior. Old wood beans, wood ceiling, and rustic wood tables. The chairs were sooo comfortable. They must have a bit of an issue with their septic system because every now and then there was a whiff of eau d'septic. Unfortunately, that's just a part of rural Vermont. Complaining about it would be like complaining about the smell of manure. Got a problem with it, stay in the city. We started with beverages. A Bentley mocha (white chocolate) and a Diet Pepsi. The mocha was AMAZING. The Pepsi clearly came from the bar siphon. Next time we'd get a can of Pepsi instead as it was a bit watered down. We had the warm kale salad. IT IS TO DIE FOR. Earthy from the beets, warm, funky goat cheese, crispy walnuts, and the most amazing maple vinaigrette. We'd come back just for the salad. Words I've never said before! We also tried the pretzels with cheese fondue. Homemade and tasty and we'd have loved it if we'd had that before the kale salad. But...we had them after and they were disappointing. We also tried the salmon and the steak frites. Both were excellent! Be advised before 5:00 the potatoes are ONLY fries. They were delicious, but if that's not what you want it could be disappointing. Better to go in knowing and save your calories. We decided to bring home desserts to the family so we could try as many as possible. Peanut butter pie - creamy and wow! Salted caramel flourless chocolate "bar" - spectacular Apple pie - the crusty is buttery and delicious. The apples are like from a can Pumpkin cheesecake brownie pie - meh, save you calories Pumpkins snickerdoodles - I'm totally stealing that! All in all, a wonderful meal. The server was awesome and we enjoyed ourselves. Highly recommend.

I have been here several times, but I guess this time, I just ordered the wrong thing. The burger special-fries and a burger for $10.00. The meat patty was very thin, so it was dry and over cooked. It might have been a frozen patty. They were very busy so maybe that had something to do with it. Our server was great and no complaints otherwise. I will go back, but not for the burger special.

They always mess up my order. Fry's with everything there's nothing real or healthy about this place.

It has been several years since I had been back in the area but wanted to swing in for a quick dinner. The appetizer was great - cornbread and burrata with pesto. The entree was good but took awhile to come out and also wasn't very hot when it arrived. It was pretty busy so it was understandable. The brisket plate had a good flavor and the Mac and cheese was creamy and delicious. Overall would definitely come back. I believe they also do live music some nights.

Been here probably dozens of times. Sometimes I'd give it four stars. Not this time. Planned on getting the fried chicken sandwich or the beef on 'weck, which I recommend. Was sold on that it was "burger night." Really, just crappy $10 burgers. Was told the chorizo burger was a smash burger. That's where the disappointment began. Looked and tasted like a frozen Patty that got tossed in a pan, no a crispy smash burger. Topped with some crappy cheese that reminded me of the stuff that comes with summer sausages that you get in a chintzy Xmas gift package. Finished off with some sad pieces of generic brand baby spinach. Service is always good. Beer selection is always decent. I'll keep coming, cus at 20 minutes it's the closest place to my house. Just one more item on my list of never order again.

My in laws are from Jericho, so we visit a couple times a year from out of state. And there are a lot of good food in Vermont - but this place is amazing. They serve maybe my favorite corned beef I've ever had anywhere on their brunch menu. 10/10 My husband is also a fan of their Jumbo Wings and Kale Salads. The portions are generous, it comes out consistently delicious every time you order and the staff is super friendly and attentive.

Love this menu. Look for the scallops and bean puree appetizer--a perfect shareable before any meal here. For dinner, I struggle veering from the kale skillet with salmon. And may I recommend this peanut butter pie for dessert?

This is such a cozy restaurant and bar. Wonderful service and the food was also amazing. We visited some friends that live in VT and they suggested this place and they were not wrong. It has great ambiance and the menu had choices for all and the chef even worked with some dietary needs we had.

Definitely try the kale skillet with salmon. Never fails to disappoint. The staff is friendly and it feels like quintessential Vermont and New England with a cozy vibe.

Great breakfast (I tend to get eggs Benedict or omelets) and really nice casual atmosphere. Prices are reasonable too!

Best beef on weck I've had outside of buffalo they nailed the roll. Deserts and cocktails always decedent and perfect. My favorite high end quick lunch spot.

We went to the Jericho Cafe for brunch today. I had the potato pancakes and my husband had the Belgium waffle. We were both disappointed. My latkes were tasteless (no salt, pepper or onion). additionally they were very oily, not fried in butter but fried in old oil. I could not taste the maple cream. My husband's waffles looked like they were fried after they came out of the waffle maker. They were very greasy with an unpleasant heavy texture. Our server was pleasant and attentive. However, we will not be returning because of the quality of food.

My daughter and son in law visit every Friday night. We always join them when in Vermont. I have never been disappointed.

Stopped in on a recommendation from our Airbnb host. Had a quick lunch of the soup of the day (mushroom) and mixed greens salad with maple vinaigrette. Both were delicious. Service was quick and friendly. Casual, bar-like atmosphere with football playing on the TV in the bar. We took two desserts to go, the maple cheesecake and a chocolate fudge cake. Both were amazing!

Jericho, VT doesn't have many options for dining. JCAT is not only the best option in Jericho, but even if traveling to Burlington or Stowe is an option, I'm pretty happy to pop into town and hit up JCAT instead. They are always booming in the weekends and for good reason!

Absolutely THE place for a sit down breakfast. They offer a great selection with always a daily special. We enjoyed coming here during the weekend and will make this our place next year.

Their Potato Pancakes are 5 stars. These are some of the better potato pancakes I've ever had, and I was surprised to find latkes this good in Vermont. A lot of places seem to make one of three big mistakes when it comes to potato pancakes: too much onion, overcooking them giving them a sharp burnt taste, or cooking them in the wrong oil/old oil, so then they just taste off and have a heaviness to them and a greasy flavor. Lots of places hit and miss and just end making bad circular hash browns (and no, latkes and hash browns are not the same thing!) But these potato pancakes I got at Jericho Cafe & Tavern? WOW! SO GOOD. Honestly...these might be the best I've ever had. The whole flavor profile was perfectly balanced. I was curious about the maple cream, as it seemed like an extra Vermonty touch...but I was suspicious. I'm Team Sour Cream when it comes to potato pancakes, but not a big maple person and a lot of VT eateries seem to put maple in things to a degree that can just feel gimmicky and tourist-focused. I was so wrong...there was very little of it, a drizzle not a dipping cup, but ooh it was good! The maple was a very pleasant surprise. The cream didn't have a sharp taste was that sour cream would have, nor did it feel as heavy as sour cream. And the maple flavor was subtle, a subtle sweetness that fit so perfectly with the whole plate and balanced each bite. As I said, I'm not Team Applesauce when it comes to latkes, so I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the julienned apple on top...but again, WOW! And SO much better than applesauce! The flavors all come together so nicely, and the slight sweetness of the maple cream, with the pieces of slightly tart green apple, just the right amount of chives on top lending exactly the right amount of onion flavor, combined with the perfectly golden brown, not-heavy, not-greasy and not-overly-oniony potato pancakes...just delicious. Not burned, perfectly prepared, and the textures and flavors...whoever made this did a great job. Stack of 3, a nice serving size. And it was nice to see on their menu in December, just in time for Hanukkah...though frankly, I would order this for brunch any time of year and would be thrilled to see this on a regular year-round menu. Their German Chocolate Cake (about $8) wasn't bad, but was kind of dense and not as moist as I would expect. If I was rating them on the cake, I'd give them 3 stars. But the potato pancakes were unmatched, a solid 5-star meal - based on that alone I'll be coming back again (honestly, maybe tomorrow) and I plan to try other items on their menu. I had heard good things about this place for a while - particularly about their dessert case. I only now came to check it out when I was nearby and saw they had potato pancakes on their menu...glad I came! And next time I might just try the key lime pie that I was eyeing. UPDATE: I DID go back the next day, and got a chicken sandwich + an order of potato pancakes again. The potato pancakes were as good as before, but the chicken sandwich was overwhelming and felt pricey for what it was. I was unsure about citrus slaw, but the slaw was good (and generally I'm not a big fan of coleslaw.) It was a very creamy slaw, the citrus note to it was subtle but it was nice. Mild, not overly citrusy. The chicken itself was oversized and greasy. A thinner cut of chicken would have been better and made this sandwich a lot easier to bite into and a lot less messy. The bun sort of just slipped around and fell apart really quickly. A better bun might be helpful, as this just flattened into the sandwich and absorbed everything. Top bun, about a half inch of coleslaw, big piece of fried chicken, then wet pickles and a layer of ranch, and the bottom bun...all together equals a wet messy sandwich. It's the type of sandwich where once you pick it up you are committed to eating it right then, if you put it down it will be even messier and more difficult trying to pick it back up. Fries were okay. Some seasoning on the chicken would be nice. Halfway through the sandwich I was stuck with some wet pieces of bun and a bare unseasoned chicken breast. The breading was visibly greasy still when I got the sandwich so a lot of it just slipped off while eating due to the wetness of everything. For $17, I think this is a bit pricey for a pretty basic (and difficult to eat) chicken sandwich. I might order a side of the slaw by itself next time. For me it was too messy, too tall and unmanageable to try to bite into. Not too keen. The potato pancakes are still the standout menu item for me, those alone are five star but everything else I had brings it down. The German chocolate cake and chicken sandwich left something to be desired.

Good food, nice ambiance, and incredibly nice and patient waitstaff. Somehow we managed to spill FOUR drinks during the course of lunch, and they were unfailingly kind throughout. The burrata salad was outstanding.

I went here like 4 times and i got the wrong thing 3 times the french toast and hamburgers are kinda trash but the fish and chips is top tier i really do recommend. im 14 so don't speak of my grammar or no use of periods

The food and service were very good but almost ruined by a hostess attitude problem. We celebrated our daughter's college graduation at the Jericho Cafe & Tavern last evening (5:00pm). I had made reservations for 9 people weeks ago, realizing it is a busy time. I also have a immune compromised condition that required outside dining. I was always informed that the outside dining was first come first served and we accepted that, hence the early dining time. We got there and a couple members of our party tried to present themselves for our party ( including my wife) and they were met with a snarky, ill mannered hostess (the blond one... the other hostess was wonderful) who in a dismissive manner informed them that they never make reservations for outside dining and they don't make reservations for large group. What a flippin buzzkill this unhappy person was. Totally unprofessional and off-putting. Otherwise ..... we were intent on celebrating our joyous occasion and did so, enjoying our food and the wonderful table service! Apparently, judging by the numbers, the many, many diners that came after us, also enjoy this restaurant. Just avoid the surly hostess! Chuck H

Nice atmosphere and popular place. Prices were a tad steep for what you got. I guess they can charge it given there isn't much in this little town.
