Where to Drink Guinness in the Charlotte Area This Holiday Season | Eater

"The Journeyman is worth the wander out of the city into Rock Hill, South Carolina, a storybook town that pulses with vitality, particularly during the holiday season. There are lighter bisques and salads on the menu, but don’t be fooled — the Irish pub nachos with beer cheese, shepherd’s pie filling, and a hefty dose of malt vinegar creme must not be missed. They’re made to be devoured at one of the many outdoor picnic tables. With its lineup of local and international beers on taps and comforting meals like prime rib and mashed potatoes, The Journeyman is a nod to the easygoing, come-one-come-all feel of a genuine Irish pub." - Kayleigh Ruller

We'll have to say we have come here hoping that it would be good and we're so disappointed. Came In the door and the lady was so unhappy. Got to our seat and found out only a couple Legal beers on tap. Irish Bar now! Ordered Fried Pickles and they were good. Ordered charcuterie board and wife absolutely couldn't eat chefs selection because they put some extra hot and spicy meat on the plate. She doesn't do spicy would have like to know it was going to be extra hot and spicy.... After we got the board finally got someone asked if any crackers came with plate said oh we forgot. Got chips 20 minutes later. Ordered wings buffalo and curry extra crispy and they came out almost raw. Wings were big and the curry flavor was good but so limited like here is a taste but we're not coating them in it. Wings had so much potential but absolutely no sauce. Such a disappointment from what it used to be. Don't give bad reviews very often but just so not a good experience.

I'll start by saying the Legal Remedy was always my favorite brewery like, ever. So I was sad when they announced this change. HOWEVER, the new restaurant is delicious. Seriously good food. We wanted to return the next day for the other items on the menu. They had an awesome performer playing all instruments an singing some awesome jams! I'll definitely be returning. The only downside is that they only have 2 LRB beers on tap. Really wish you had more of them available. But aside from that, 5/5.

We got the charcuterie board for the table. The blueberry cheese was the highlight of the board. My collegue bad Bangers and Mash, which looked great and he enjoyed it. I had the Curry Chicken and the Palmetto Burger. The sauce on the Curry Chicken was spicy, full of flavor, and the veggies were tasty. The chicken was okay, but the dish was overall very good. The Palmetto Burger was incredible. The burgers were cooked perfectly and were a good size. There was plenty of pimento cheese and while it was a little sloppy to eat, it was so good and worth having my hands dirty. Just grab some extra napkins. The fries were tasty and crispy without being hard. We went early on a day when there was nothing going on, but it looks like a good atmosphere for a sporting event.

Had a server seat us. Took our drink order and then a different server came out and said she was taking over. She seemed to not care and didn’t offer any conversation until near the end. Not very friendly. We were the only ones in the dining room. The bar was busy. The music was good until they changed the tv to a soccer game and badged the announcers for that game. Good portions were pleasantly filling. We expected more from what the reviews said. We believe in second chances, so we’ll go back again, just not any time soon.

Beautiful lunch on the covered patio at The Journeymen Pub in Rock Hill! The food was SO good with extra large portions! So much so, we had leftovers for dinner! The service and atmosphere were spot on! ❤️ Bonus The Journeyman is dog friendly so Harley will be joining us next time 🐕‍🦺🐕🐾 #thejourneyman #rockhillsc #dogfriendlyrockhill

This is the old Legal Remedy Brewing taphouse. It's a decent place with indoor and outdoor seating. There are about 15 taps with a varied selection. There were two Legal Remedy taps. The service was very good, as was the food. We had the Bangers and Mash and a pretzel 🥨, both very good. The new owner is from Ireland and this is authentic Irish fare. 🍻

Google
First time trying this establishment. I sat at the bar, and ordered two menu items. For the appetizer, I had the Ruben Egg Rolls which were delicious, especially with the sauce. For the entrée, I had the Smoke House Meatloaf. The mashed potatoes, and asparagus complimented this meal perfectly! Steven my server at the bar was very professional.

Google
Omg!!! What a wonderful place. Come eat here. The owner is Irish and his recipes, price point is great. Feel like this would cost so much more at a chain restaurant. Seriously come enjoy yourself here. My new favorite place. The Reuben is the best that I can remember. The fish and chips, wow

Yelp
This is the place that was formerly Legal Remedy Tavern. Their sign still indicates Legal Remedy but there is also a sign that indicates The Journeyman Tavern. Today, I called in an order of the Irish Stew 'to go'. The lady told me a single order was $17.44 with tax but could not tell me if it was a cup or a bowl or how many ounces it was. For $17.44 I wanted to get an idea of how much stew there was. I was driving about 30 minutes to get it. All she could tell me was 'it's a good bit'. I took a chance and drove there anyway. It was about the size of a bowl, I measures it and it came out to be about 10 ounces. Bottom line, it was GOOD! Nice thick broth with nice size chunks of beef with potatoes and carrots. They also included 2 tasty yeast roles which were delicious. I would def return for more as their menu is geared toward Irish food.

Yelp
Solid place! Given it's a pub, the food was actually good, crispy fries and tasty burger! It's on the saltier side but still good! Server was kind to check in on us and fix the orders when requested! The flags hanging from the ceiling and the woodsy decor creates a homey pub ambiance.

Yelp
My wife and I recently moved into Rock Hill. We had been to the location when it was legal remedy a couple years. When we finally moved in, and we realized it was now an Irish pub, and the only one in the county, we had to check it out. I can only say great things about it. We went during the week and it was fairly busy, around Happy Hour. We ordered the nachos American style and the Reuben eggrolls. Both were amazing. The staff is very very friendly. We went back yesterday for their St. Patrick's Day festivities. It was very crowded, but we were able to get a seat at the bar after a couple minutes. And even though they were slammed, everyone was hustling and we got our drinks quickly. This will definitely be one of our main hangouts. The owner Marc is great and treats his patrons very well.

Yelp
Went to Journeyman for the first time, after seeing many recommendations. We loved it. Wife had the (huge) Reuben, I just finished the leftover, so good. I had a burger, great. Southern Poutine appetizer was great! Fries are very good. Portions were massive, first meal I've met in a while that I couldn't finish. Great beer selection, great atmosphere. Our server was Amanda G and she gave perfect service, right on point with everything. I can't wait to go back and try the Irish curry and other Irish dishes

Yelp
Food, service,& ambiance was great. I will return when I can with my husband. Can't wait!

Yelp
Great vibe at this place with solid food and beer choices. Mark the proprietor was friendly and engaging. Excellent indoor and outdoor space! We will return.

Yelp
On a recent trip to SC to see our kids, we decided to go out for dinner one night, and Irish seemed to be the right choice. They told us about this place that had just switched over to an Irish theme, so off we went. Having just been to Ireland last fall, I can tell you they have some work to do to truly get the Irish feel, but they're off to a good start. We had the Irish pub nachos, which were very good. The Farmhouse salad and Kildare burgers were also very good. The French fries were awesome! And of course, the Guinness was perfect. I'll be happy to go back to this place the next time we're in town, to see if they're really growing some Irish roots here.

Yelp
Stopped in for a post St Patrick's dinner. Had a great time. Elizabeth and Murph were so nice and great conversationalists. Food was very good and plentiful.

Michael W.

Yelp
Great food!!! Ruben and poutine fries were awesome. We keep coming back to try different things. Nothing has disappointed us yet.

Yelp
Delicious Irish Pub Nachos. Wings are great too. Best pint of Guinness around. Friendly service. Live music on weekends.

Yelp
The food was very good! Service was as good as could be expected! It was extremely busy! It was so loud at bar area that it was difficult to have a conversation at your table! Large crowd of young people, probably having a great time, we just won't come on a Saturday night again! We're retired and can come anytime!

Yelp
Very attentive owner. Great service delicious Irish favorites! Nice place to grab a Guinness and watch soccer.

Yelp
The food was very good and plentiful. What surpassed the food quality was the sweet and friendly staff. All acknowledged the customers and thanked us for coming in. They were pleasant and polite. Thank you

Yelp
Today was our first visit to The Journeyman, and we will definitely be returning. The staff were friendly and welcoming, there was a nice selection of local and regional beers on tap (and of course Guinness and Smithwicks) and a good vibe all around. Try the curry, which had the perfect balance of spicy and sweet flavors. Next time we will be trying the bangers and mash and the fish and chips...

Yelp
Had an excellent experience here at the journeyman. Aiden, my server, was amazing! He made some awesome recommendations and was constantly there to refill my water and check in with me . Food was great and atmosphere was awesome.

Yelp
We were very confused when we arrived. We thought we were going to Legal Remedy but it's been a minute since we have been there. The sign still said Legal Remedy... and everything said Leval Remedy around the building but when you walk inside it says it is the Journeyman Tavern. I guess they changed it since December. Anyways, they still had Legal Remedy beers on tap and other beer choices. The staff was friendly and they had a spacious outdoor seating. I got the turkey wrap but I wish I ordered something else. My brother loved the wings and my husband enjoyed the strawberry salad. It was a nice lunch and we will probably go again in the future. They have their own parking and there are 20 plus spots.

Yelp
Great service and food! My parents, husband, and I had dinner Saturday night at The Journeyman Tavern, and it was an absolute delight. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm, inviting atmosphere that made us feel right at home. Our server, Alexis, was incredibly attentive and went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed throughout the evening. My brother and sister-in-law lived in Ireland for seven years, and my parents have visited several times, so we were especially excited to experience an Irish pub right here in town. The menu was filled with authentic dishes and our hometown favorites like burgers and philly cheesesteaks and we couldn't wait to dig in. We enjoyed each of our dishes! We left feeling satisfied and happy, and we can't wait to return to try more from the menu. Thank you for a memorable night--we will definitely be back!

Yelp
The food was great, I was sad they ran out of shepherds pie so I will have to be back for that. The poutine fries were surprisingly tasty (I was skeptical of jam on fries) and I would definitely order again. My wife's Irish Stew was also great, it was full of flavor. My burger was a little plain and underwhelming, I didn't taste the curry sauce or cheese really but it wasn't an awful burger. The atmosphere was nice and they had some live music out on the patio which was nice as well. We will definitely be back and I am excited to get to try the shepherds pie next time.

Yelp
Food service and ambiance! Our server Hailey was fantastic and one of the major reasons we will be back! Cheers to The Journeyman! Love the Irish theme as well

Yelp
Love the fish and chips. They serve large portions of fried haddock (one of my favorite white fish). The coating was light and crispy. It wasn't greasy at all. Can't wait to go back and order it again soon.

Yelp
We arrived on a Friday night around 5 o'clock to celebrate a birthday. Looking around there were only five other tables that had customers. We waited for 20 minutes and no waitress ever came to our table to take a drink order. We observed three girls at the hostess table that were all busy on their cell phones. Plenty of people behind the bar that could have waited on us. Finally we asked the hostess what the problem was. No apologies. Said she had put us in the system. We waited a few more minutes and left. Ended up at Flipside which was wonderful. Good food and good service. With all the places in Rock Hill to eat Journeyman is going to have to step it up. We have eaten there a number of times and it has been good. We love an Irish pub, but we have no plans to return. Extremely disappointed!!!!

Amanda D.

Yelp
The service was GREAT, the food was terrible. The southern poutine came out cold, The corned beef was all fat and swimming in grease. My son didn't like their chicken fingers- he has never rejected chicken fingers, ever. My other son said the hot dog was crunchy. Very expensive for bad food.

Phil M.

Yelp
Fish and Chips were okay, Philly somehow was dry and flavorless. The fries were eggwhite or something so rather than fries it was a lump of fried potatoes....the sitting was more like a foodcourt than Irish pub...many tables closely packed together....only real pluses were you can have dogs outside and Guinness

M B.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and the best staff. The owner is awesome, came over and checked in with us and we chatted about Ireland. The Harp on draft is outstanding as is the Guinness. The Rueben egg rolls are the best! We have been several time and will continue to go. No complaints.

Aj F.

Yelp
It was a fun place and the veggie curry delicious. The corn beef and cabbage was terrible, I didn't eat mine. Fish is good but coleslaw terrible. Other than the fish generally not very big servings.

Jamie B.

Yelp
Disappointed to say the least . I was very excited to have an Irish pub in Rock Hill but the food tasted like i had just bought a microwave meal. Ordered the Sheppard's pie and i can't emphasize this more, probably the worst mashed potatoes I've ever had... i don't think a drop of butter was used because it was so dry and flaky. We also ordered the nachos and those were better but barely had any meat on it so basically ate kettled chips with sauce on it. Wife tried the bangers and mash potatoes and again ruined by the awful mashed potatoes. I was very surprised they didn't have brown sauce since it's supposed to be an Irish pub and would have added some flavor to the food. Another knock was that they were out of smithwicks, one of two Irish beer they had available... Not sure if it was the cook that day but i would avoid any menu item with mashed potatoes. I'll be waiting a few months before i give it a second chance.

Yelp
Was excited to see an "Irish pub" come to rock hill sc. Unfortunately our visit was less than stellar. Started with the southern poutine which was great... but not Irish food. Ordered the bangers and mash for myself and my wife ordered the shepherds pie. Bangers were Luke warm at best and the potatoes tasted like they were from a box. Bland in flavor wife's Sheppard pie was mediocre at best. Kids meals were typical chick3n tenders, grilled cheese, and cheese burgers. Kiddos got the chicken tenders and fries. Blah. Only two Irish beers on tap at the bar and one was out... plenty of seating both in and out. Service was minimal as well. Took quite a while to get food or drinks. Also no brown sauce.

Cindy M.

Yelp
Super disappointed. Have been wanting to visit for a while, but as we moved out of Rock Hill we don't get down this way as often. We decided to come for dinner tonight. While we understand that it was busy when we came in, most of the tables already had their food. We sat waiting for our food for over 30 mins. A larger table next to us that came in roughly 15 mins after us had their appetizers and we were still waiting on our food. When it finally came out, the bangers and mash were luke warm and the chicken on the salad was dry. We asked to speak with the manager/ owner. This only made the experience worse. We tried to explain what was upsetting to us, the owner, "Murphy", just wanted to make excuses and talk over us, ultimately walking away from our table without any apology for the experience. We will not be back, nor will we recommend this place. Had things gone better with the owner, we would have been willing to give a second chance. I have never had an experience like this in the past. I hope the owner does not treat others as we were treated.

Yelp
Nice ambiance. Friendly staff. Seated immediately. Table clean. Wait staff greeted us immediately. Drinks arrived quickly. Food was great. Beer was great. Zero issues. Great establishment. Slainte!

Michael R.

Yelp
Was sad it wasn't the bar it use to be. My client and I were so happy with the Irish vibe and wonderful waitress we had. Will sure entertain more clients in the future

Yelp
So stoked to have an Irish Pub in Rock Hill again! I enjoyed several pints of Guinness, some curry chicken wings, and the company of my friends while watching a basketball game. Beer and wings were solid. The place has a very chill vibe. Plus, unlike nearly all other restaurants and bars in Rock Hill, the Journeyman knows to turn down the lights inside when it gets dark! That plus real candles on every table = instant ambiance. It was a place I wanted to linger at for awhile. Friendly owner. I will be happy to support this small business.
