I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant inside the hotel Kandy House in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
I had an unforgettable New Year’s dinner at this restaurant where everything, from start to finish, was exceptional. The service was delightful—friendly, attentive, and highly professional. To top it off, we enjoyed a mesmerizing traditional Sri Lankan dance performance, which added a magical touch to the evening.
The meal itself was a true culinary journey. We began with some delicious appetizers, followed by a heartwarming roasted red pepper and tomato soup. Next came a perfectly cooked and seasoned grilled garlic tiger prawn with avocado salad, which was simply divine.
A refreshing pomegranate and lime mint sorbet provided a smooth transition to the main course, a baked fresh salmon soufflé served with couscous, pomegranate, and a delightful salad. The salmon was cooked to perfection. This was complemented by a side of roasted fruit vegetables paired with fresh basil pesto and l blue cheese crumbles—an intriguing and flavorful combination.
To end the evening, we enjoyed a strawberry and orange cheesecake with blackberry compote—an explosion of flavors that was both creative and satisfying. Alongside tea, liqueur chocolates were served, which, though I didn’t try, looked beautifully presented.
This restaurant is highly recommended, both for its food and the exceptional experience it offers. The hotel itself, housed in a 200-year-old building steeped in history, also looks magnificent. While I didn’t stay overnight, it’s worth considering for a complete experience. A must-visit for anyone in the area!
