Where to Eat Middle Eastern Food in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"Looking for a quick lunch or dinner? Look no further than hit San Diego mini-chain The Kebab Shop, whose specialty Turkish döner kebabs – think shaved rotisserie-roasted spiced chicken, lamb, or beef piled into sandwiches or loaded on top of crispy French fries – keep lines out the door most days." - Keri Bridgwater

Google
Met up with my friends in downtown and finally went back to The Kebab Shop after 5 years! Time flies, I’ve really missed this place. The food is still so good and definitely worth it! I always get the wrap, it’s big, delicious, and I can never finish it. The place is clean, the staff are friendly, and it’s a great spot to enjoy with friends and family.

Google
I couldn’t believe the size of the wrap at The Kebab Shop—it was literally as long as my arm, seriously! But beyond the wow factor, it was packed with flavor, tasty, and totally satisfying. The best part? It’s affordable, quick, and generous enough to make two meals out of one. If you’re craving a hearty, delicious kebab fix, this spot is a must-try!

Google
We had the keto bowl which was great. The sauces make the show, all 3 available next to the drink bar are phenomenal. You could probably order anything here and put any combination of those 3 sauces on it and be totally satisfied.

Google
Nice fast food alternative to Cava. Falafel was hot and cooked perfectly. Plenty of salad and filling options. The place is kept clean and the prices are fair. Will definitely go back.

Google
First of all, the food was absolutely disgusting and we ordered the wrap shawarma plus the rice and chicken. Secondly, the sign says “Kids eat free every Saturday and Sunday.” However, one of the workers replied to one of my kid okay we give you a free card for next time, but we live far away and I come along he tells me no you can only have it if you get the kids meal.

Google
Absolutely amazing staff! Alfonso, Ariana, and Juan went above and beyond to take care of us — they truly deserve a raise! The food was phenomenal, hands down the best I’ve ever had at any location. Because of their service and the quality, this will definitely be my go-to spot from now on!

Google
Delicious Mediterranean bowls with rice, salad, pickled veggies and a yoghurt sauce. The carved chicken was excellent. And the fire hummus was truly fire! We got delivery from here - food came on time and was delivered hot

Halal: Only Lamb Beef & Grilled Beef Kofta Lots of build your own options with many toppings and sides to add Great portions for the price, the wraps were as long as my arm!

Yelp
This kabob joint has been in this same location for many years already and I remember eating here long before the pandemic and it was solid and fairly priced. I'm back in town for a medical conference and just wanted something casual for a late dinner and seeked them out again. You should pull over I ordered the lamb kabob platter with hummus and the chickpea salad and it is worth noting that if you check in using the Yelp app they give you the crave fries for half price ($2.50) and they are excellent. The grilled Kabob was meaty but a little mushy but damn tasty and the hummus was a nice portion. Along with the crave fries a filling meal for under $20 ! Wish they opened in the Bay Area. Good place and also like that you self serve the sauces too! Will return !!

Yelp
Excellent experience! Highly recommend! Allen and Tua helped us tonight and made us a delicious chicken plate the sides of hummus+pita and fries were amazing. We took leftovers with us and they gave us some extra pita to enjoy! Thank you so much!!!! Also the music and the ambiance were special, it was a very pleasant place for dinner.

Yelp
Kebab and only the kebab! Great spot for a kebab sandwich. The service was pleasant and ambiance was okay. I took mine to go for a more fine dining experience in my hotel room overlooking Petco Park. My only thing is... the sauce could have been more zesty, the kebab could have been more meaty and the price could have been less hefty. Next time I would double up on the kebab and ask for more sauce. They do have several sauces you can take to go as you please which gives you an added bonus. The falafels were tasty, but the spices used were a tad too much for my liking... not sure if it was the cummin or what, but falafel doesn't need all that dry spice mixed into the batter.

Yelp
Fast preparation that does sacrifice quality. Great service and not much better for a quick bite.

Yelp
The food is delicious! The service is great and very friendly! Good value too. Love this place!

Yelp
Great food, delicious sauces, and friendly and attentive staff!! I would definitely come back. I tried their new cilantro-based hummus ( not on the menu yet as of 7-19-24), but I hope it becomes a permanent menu item.

Yelp
This place offers very delicious entrees. Similar in idea to chipotle but for middle eastern foods. Staff are very kind and friendly, and offered us really good recommendations. Don't he fooled by the basic inside seatings, the food here tastes so delicious.

Yelp
Was looking for a place to have dinner when visiting San Diego and this place was pretty close. Upon entering, I saw the sign that this kebab shop won the best kebab award for 5 years in a row and after eating there, it made sense as to why. It's a great place: super nice and helpful people working at the counter who are patiently explaining what's inside and helping with the choices, great prices, large menu, and very fresh ingredients. As for the food: the chicken wrap is good, the doner fries were the best ones I've had (I customized and removed onions and mint), and the Greek salad I got as a side was super fresh and the portion was generous. It's also super cute inside! The tables are small but that's okay. They also have a reward system which is quite nice. Will be coming back :)

Yelp
We tried this restaurant during our visit to San Diego. Customer service was exceptional. We ordered some fries with fixings, a kebab plate, shawarma, and a roll. The food tasted good, but their sauces were terrific and paired with the food. The prices were slightly high, but I understand because they are downtown.
google avatar

Nik g.

Yelp
Great food! Their wraps are huge! Nice portions, everything was super flavorful except the rice. All their sauces were super tasty. Does take a while for your food to come out. We were the only people in there and still waited almost 15min for our food. But overall definitely worth a repeat visit.

Yelp
Solid choice when you get middle eastern cravings. Their garlic and cilantro sauce is sooooo fire. I can literally drink it lol Good prices and quick service

Ronelyn C.

Yelp
One of my favorite places when I don't want to cook, or it's just been a long day! The food is good, and the folks there are so nice and friendly. Shout out to Felipe who always has a smile on his face and makes it a pleasant wait for freshly grilled kebabs!

Yelp
Bad service I asked for fresh shawarma they give me old one and I asked the employee to give me fresh she said no

Yelp
January 2024 Update: We stopped in for a late dinner and food was amazing as always. Falafel was great and I always love the pita wraps. Service was friendly and efficient. This is our favorite Kebab Shop for sure. Try the spicy hummus!

Yelp
Worth the walk, definitely the better Mid-eastern food in the area. We love the saffron rice here, perfectly cooked and seasoned, taste like home. All the sauces are awesome too. Food are freshly prepared, quickly served. Staffs are very friendly. A great quick eat station, highly recommended.

Yelp
ALFONSO made this experience 10x better! This company is lucky to have people like him serve the customers. He was helpful, calm, patient, and more importantly respectful. He cooked the chicken perfectly!

Yelp
Awesome hole in the wall! The food is superb! Fresh, delicious...your palate is in for such a special treat. The guys are not only friendly, they are knowledgeable, kind, and generous with their portions. First time coming and definitely coming back and bringing family and friends here.

Yelp
A fast food kebab shop that will not leave you hungry. I ordered a chicken wrap and found myself loading it with the cilantro jalapeno sauce and the o.g. yogurt sauce on every bite. The service was outstanding.

Hana S.

Yelp
Delicious food!! I got the chicken sandwich with everything plus fries inside. So good, especially with the spicy sauce. My 4 year old does not eat "complicated food" and he had his first chicken sandwich like mine but made it smaller. He loved it!!
google avatar

Olivia M.

Yelp
In the area and wanted some kebabs! Glad I gave this place a chance ! The food portions are ginormous! Very tasty and hot so that was great . It wasn't super busy but I don't think it would matter as service was great ! The ambiance inside is pretty nice and chill ! The space Is enough so you don't feel overcrowded .

Roschel V.

Yelp
Awesome kebab shop. Super delicious, clean and awesome service. Alfonso and Felipe are friendly and made us feel really welcomed. You guys rock! Thanks again

Yelp
Came here because we wanted to get a quick bite! We were pleasantly surprised that this is the first Kebab Shop. We usually get the plates with mixed meat. It never misses! This particular branch also offered other plates that aren't offered in the other Kebab Shops. I can't recall who helped us, but we came here on a Monday morning and the man who helped us was really kind. The only thing that they missed was one of our fries orders were incorrect, but since we took it to go, we didn't get to change it. If you come here, the one thing you'll want to do is get the sauces!

Yelp
Initially we are looking into a famous barbecue place in town, we saw the long line and backed out! Luckily this place was our back up plan, and it did not disappoint! Place is small and it's a fast food style restaurant, which I am okay with. The food is really good, and the sauces are to die for! If ever we will be in town, again...we will definitely go back to this place. Highly recommended!

Yelp
When you are hungry, indecisive, and driving around downtown San Diego, it's pretty hard to settle on something to eat, but thanks to Yelp, we were able to find The Kebab Shop and it was a no brainer! We came to The Kebab Shop on a Saturday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised but how nice this place looked, how great the menu looked, and how great even the staff was. Ordering was a struggle but I settled on sharing an order of the Crave fries (french fries covered in pickled red onions, garlic yogurt, and feta cheese) as well as The Fries Wrap with Grilled Steak (yes, I ordered a side order of french fries as well as a burrito stuffed with french fries). The food didn't take too long to come out and it was absolutely perfect in the best way. The burrito itself was absolutely massive and could easily be two meals for the price, but since I'm a tourist with no mini fridge it was my civil duty to devour the entire burrito. The burrito tasted so good, both the meat and the french fries were so good and I would definitely order this in the future. The crave fries were an excellent side and even though I don't eat the pickled red onions, I enjoyed them very much and loved the golden crispy fries in both dishes. Overall, The Kebab Shop is a San Diego chain that deserves the high ratings it has. The food here is excellent, the staff was great, and the restaurant itself was super clean and offered plenty of seating for the busy lunch rush. This place is great, plain and simple, this place is a must try for San Diego locals.

Yelp
Plates and fries are amazing and you really can't go wrong with either. In fact, on this particular visit, yours truly got fries and I have zero regrets. If I'm being honest though, I think my favorite menu item has to be the wrap. The wrap is a sight to behold, mostly because it's about the same width and length of my entire forearm. I could use it to replace a Louisville Slugger and hit dingers out of dead center at Petco Park - it's that big and that hearty. My go-to wrap is the SD Wrap which is basically a kebab take on a CA burrito; French fries, protein, veggies, hummus and whatnot jammed into the aforementioned ridiculously huge tortilla. Just get it. Eat it. Thank me later.

Yelp

Yelp
I work in downtown and this is my most frequent place for lunch, I started coming here about six months ago and not once have. I've been disappointed and his crew are always on point and super friendly. Needless to say I will keep coming back.

Yelp
Very good! I was very hungry in San Diego and wanted to try something different. I came across the Kebab Shop and decided to give it a shot. The spot is very cute, personable, and comfortable. The service was pretty good and the one of the cashiers was helpful. I ordered the chicken kebab with rice, salad, a side of pita bread and French fries. The portions were very generous. I had bread and fries leftover for a later snack haha. Very refreshing to try something new that actually turned out to be worth it. I'll be back, for sure.

Yelp
The service was exceedingly exceptional! The food was spot on when I got home, perfectly well-prepared. Been to all the locations based in San Diego and this is my go-to shop!!!
google avatar

Arpita G.

Yelp
I absolutely love the Krave fries here, definitely my go to snack and my favorite location when I'm in the area! The service here is impeccable they are always friendly and the food is made fresh to order.

Yelp
This is part of a chain. They are always pretty reliable. I really like the pita/bread used for the wraps. They toast it a little as well that adds flavor. The person at the register got the meat for one of our wrap orders incorrect, but it was still tasty. Sometimes I do wish the wraps had a bigger variety of toppings. General ambiance of the location was good. Only one general use bathroom. It got busy when we were waiting for our food.
google avatar

Justin S.

Yelp
The wraps here are absolutely massive. When you bite into them, they're very tasty, especially when sprinkling their equally tasty sauces on it while you eat. The falafels are probably most real tasting falafels I've eaten - they're not dry like a lot of falafels but not moist either. The falafels are perfect, and even have some whole beans inside of them. My only complaints are that the inside was really dirty, tables weren't clean, but it was about an hour before closing so it is what it is. I also got a few sour bites of cucumber in my wrap towards the end which was a bummer. But putting those things aside, this place is delicious and packs a great value.

Matthew S.

Yelp
I love giving review with the employees make the experience memorable. I'll keep the food short and simple it's was good, fresh, and what you'd expect, nothing crazy or over the top. but what stood out to me was that our dumb selves decided to go in 30 mins before closing on a Friday night, not realizing how late it even was. We ordered the food and we noticed the chairs were being put up and I was like oh no I'm sorry I didn't realize you guys closed and he said it's no big deal at all sit and enjoy your food. Then the other guy said how many are there I said 6 and he said here let's take these chairs down and push the tables together for you. I am someone who used to work Friday nights in "fast" food and I know it's not easy putting a smile on when your trying to go home, but they made us feel very welcomed even if deep down they didn't meant it lol Every time I go to San Diego I somehow end up here and it's always a good experience

Yelp
This location is convenient to many hotels and apartments in San Diego. We walked from the Marriott Vacation Club Pulse. Great food - I had a "box lunch" and my wife had a wrap - both with beef/lamb (gyro) meat. Great flavor. Awesome fries and hummus as well. Quick service. Casual friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Genevieve K.

Yelp
I walked here from my hotel, a short distance, to have a salad. I know, most people don't order salad from a kabob place but it was so good! I've been to other Kebab Shops in LA county and they're equal in quality. The biggest difference was how fast my to-go order was ready. I placed my order and in the amount of time it took to get some of the salsas and fill my cup with ice water, my order was ready. I only gave them four stars because my salad bowl wasn't full as you can see from my picture. Not sure if they didn't think I would eat it or they were saving...

Yelp
We just love being greeted right off the bat. We were looking at the menu and the gentleman at the front was super friendly and offered us samples if we wanted. He also made recommendations. I ended up ordering fries with falafel & hummus and my husband ordered a kebab. The falafel was perfectly cooked too! The sauces were really good. Both were great choices and couldn't have been better. We wish we lived in SD so we could be regulars. Just go. You won't regret it!

Yelp
Lamb Doner Wrap (with garlic yogurt, greens, tomato-cucumber, pickled red onions, feta, & spicy cilantro dipping sauce) and Crave Fries (topped with feta, garlic yogurt, and pickled onions) Hard to photograph, but easily a new favorite Just so crazy good, I can easily see why this place is so popular. Flavors were excellent and unique, portions were huge, soo yummy 2nd visit: Doner Fries - lamb doner meat, feta, garlic yogurt, pickled onions, and spicy cilantro sauce Seriously so good yall. Can't speak highly enough of this place!!
google avatar

William R.

Yelp
Great kabobs and salads with these wonderful sauces. We usually get the grilled chicken breast cubes in a wrap loaded with veggies and top it with the very tasty white garlic and green cilantro sauces. Can't get enough of this place!
google avatar

Andrea T.

Yelp
Kebab shop is great if you want quick takeout for a decent price! The portions are huge and the food is good. I got the lamb shawarma wrap and it was a hit. We also had an order of the spicy hummus, which was ok but I would not get that again. Overall would come back for a quick bite!
google avatar

Gamini G.

Yelp
You can't go wrong with Kebab Shop. Love their sauces! I am a vegetarian and I love the falafels, they are moist and not oily. This is my go to place! Highly recommend it!
google avatar

Wendy G.

Yelp
Just up the street from Hotel Indigo is a place where you are greeted warmly and can get tender chicken and saffron rice, fresh garlic yogurt salad, tasty falafels, fresh tabouli, and delicious baklava! I'm so full and so happy. Highly recommended!!!

Kulraj D.

Yelp
Empty plates, you know what that means. I don't think I need to say anymore, there are empty plates.

Yelp
Great! Good food. Good value. Good location for DT. Nice Sauces. Employees were great. I'll b back.
google avatar

Yelp
The food is sometimes edible but nothing to write home about. The falafel is usually dry and kind of nasty, but my husband likes the lamb so we'll order from here from time to time. The service kinda sucks. They always forget stuff in the to go orders. Most recently, I ordered a falafel plate and they left out the pita bread, which basically makes the whole plate inedible because I need the pita to make little mini sandwiches (this is the only way the falafel is even halfway edible because it masks the nastiness). They offered to refund me a whole $1.50 for a $15 inedible plate or I could make the trip back over there to pick up the pita. Upside is we won't be going here again and I never liked it in the first place, so I'm happy to move it out of our takeout rotation
google avatar

Krishen W.

Yelp
We ordered ahead of time to get the crave fries. They were simple, but really good. With only fries, sour cream, feta, and pickled onions They really held up well. The shop also has a ton of sauces to pick from to add to their fries too! I will definitely be back to try some stuff from the rest of the menu!

Carla B.

Yelp
This place is awesome! The food is really good and they have great customer service. I'm a regular.
google avatar

Yelp
I got a Kebab Wrap with lamb beef. It was huge! Portions were perfect the staff were so welcoming and friendly. I had never been here before so they let me try the meats before I ordered and even offered some Döner fries on the house! Really great atmosphere and good music playing. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
My husband and I checked out The Kebab Shop in downtown San Diego. We were looking for Mediterranean style dishes. We decided to give The Kebab Shop a chance. They did not disappoint. We enjoyed the fresh Mediterranean Greek salad, pita bread & hummus, and customer service. Emmanuel, Eric, and Andy took really good care of us, showed great hospitality and we will be back to visit when we are in the area again.
