Where to Drink Guinness in the Austin Area This Holiday Season | Eater

"Okay, we’ll be honest: the Kenney Fort Pub is an English-inspired tavern rather than an Irish bar. But in addition to serving U.K. favorites like fish and chips and tikka masala, Kenney Fort Pub doesn’t forget to nod to the Emerald Isle by including Guinness pints on its draft list. There’s nothing more comforting during the holiday season than a hearty pub meal with friends." - Taylor Tobin

We had always loved their Fish & Chips but the last visit (takeout) in May has changed everything! We ordered our usual which was Fish & Chips. We understand in this economy every business is trying to stay afloat but you cannot sacrifice the taste/quality of your food or the things that people love most about your restaurant. You can either increase the price or change the portions, I will pay for it if it’s good. Sadly this restaurant tanked hard on their quality. The batter of their fish and fried purple onion previously was light and crispy and the size of their fish fillets were thick & humongous. Unfortunately, that was all in the past. Literally it was all batter and a tiny fish fillet and the batter was grievously undercooked. That would be our last visit.

Great local pub! We had the fish and chips and they were amazing. The crust on the fish was light and crunchy and the homemade tarter was so good! Great beer and spirit selection with a good offering of authentic English beers. The service is great. Dugan is such a fun bartender! Always my go to place when I’m in the area!

Google
Fantastic breakfast experience! The atmosphere at The Kenny Fort is warm and inviting, with a true British charm. The breakfast menu is absolutely delicious—everything from the perfectly cooked eggs to the delicious breakfast sandwich and fresh pastries was spot on. The service was friendly and attentive, and the portions were generous without being overwhelming. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quality meal to start your day. Will definitely be coming back!!

Had fantastic drinks, meal and games on the patio. Service was very attentive and food was terrific. Had the Belgian cherry beer and it was fantastic

I stopped by on my lunch break and ordered the cauliflower bites and the steak sandwich, both were perfect, and I highly recommend them! The servers were incredibly friendly and made the experience even better. I’ll definitely be coming back for both the delicious food and the amazing service.

The Kennyfort Pub is easily one of my favorite spots in Round Rock! It has such a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere—whether you're grabbing a drink with friends or stopping in for dinner, it always feels like the right choice. The staff is friendly and on top of it, and the food is amazing. The buffalo cauliflower is a must, super crispy, full of flavor, and honestly just addictive. Everything I've tried so far has been great. Their drink menu is solid too, with a nice mix of local beers and cocktails that are super well made. It’s clear they care about quality across the board. Just an all-around great place. Good people, good food, good drinks!

Great place with a fantastic selection of food and drink. Easy place to relax or chat with friends and staff. I've come for brunch, lunch, and dinner. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu!

Google
Really great atmosphere it is very on brand for the British pub (I assume) the fish and chips were good definitely good quality fish. Fan of the tartar and curry sauces. The scotch egg was perfectly cooked over a bed of “British coleslaw” and both were good. I will definitely come back to try more items!

Yelp
I am a massive fan of certain English/uk dishes and I have to say, this place scratches that spot! Get there early for a PROPER full English breakfast. People mess this dish up pretty much everywhere else around Austin, not at Kenny Fort! Proper rashers, black pudding, etc. While my wife tries to stop me, I always get a scotch egg, it is one of my favorite foods but goodness you need a gas mask around me a couple hours later, worth it!!! Great beer selection and incredibly nice owners make Kenny fort a must see if you are craving some English vibes drinks and food.

Yelp
First visit after reading strong reviews. a strange crowd in the restaurant as it was filling with 5-8 year olds for an apparent birthday party - a pub is an odd place for that age group - as a result noise level was higher than normal. On to the food. Ordered the brushetta and an order of fish and chips. bruschetta was very good on focasia bread. The fish and chips disappointed - the fish portion was huge and had a good fry. the chips were potato wedges and not fully cooked and certainly not crisp as I would want them. H Having recently returned from Australia and New Zealand - these did not match the goodness we had there. Server was very pleasant and attentive.

Yelp
Not good tonight Trey the waiter, please don't argue with customers like you did, and being dishonest is a bad look 10 T E N French fries/chips that's what he served us Then he lied and tried to play it off And they weee not hot We waited so long for food and other staff was bringing us drinks and Appetizer Other people who arrived after us got their fish meals Then we found out our fish was served before a couple who were there when we arrived ?!? Saw a plate with twice as many fries delivered after we ate so Trey, what really happened ? So this BS story about "Oh I just found out we are out of fries" and you don't tell customers until you drop plate and Try to run away hoping no one notices? Yeah It's fish and chips W/O the chips Trey it simply fish Really let down the way you acted Trey Ok with that said we were compensated fairly at bill time However, it shouldn't have gotten that far at all. Curry sauce was like water The bartender was hardest working guy in there We heard a lot of shouting coming from kitchen F bomb too So there were issues Not an experience I want to repeat

Yelp
We got here just in time to get their English breakfast (ends at 11, so get there early!) and it was exactly what we were hoping for. Traditional English breakfast. I got the small and my boyfriend got the large and it was perfect. We also got the scotch egg (forgot to take a picture of that) and it was delicious, nice and crispy outside, a little runny egg on the inside exactly how I like it. Since we got there early, we were 1 of 2 tables there and service was quick and friendly. Can't wait to go back for lunch to try the fish and chips.

Yelp
Pretty tasty food. Very typical bar experience with plenty of screens to watch sports. The two servers we had were definitely above average though! They were very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Really fun place with nice people and generally some footie on the telly. Huge props for having London Pride on tap. Great tap wall overall and the cocktails are strong and delish. Love getting mushy peas with my chips. Only reason it's not five stars is the food takes so, so long to come out. There are currently 14 customers in the pub and our simple order is now 30 minutes and counting. Our bad for coming when we didn't have much time, but they do need to put the spurs to the service time sometimes. Overall, a fun place we return to frequently despite not being too close to home. Try the shrimp tikka, yum, but be advised the come out tail on, which is kind of weird.

Yelp
Great service, tasty food and if you love British culture this is the place for you. It's a fun and lively experience for football (soccer) fans, and if you want a properly poured Guinness this is a good place for it. They offer a full English breakfast but make sure you check the times cause it ends pretty early.

Yelp
Wow... what a massive disappointment. After paying $31 (before tax/tip/delivery, so a total of $45) for the fish & chips, what I received was an absolute joke and a massive disappointment. Besides the fish being soggy and barely fried, the fries - all 4 of them - while warm to the touch, were hard and cold on the inside and lacked any texture. Ok, so I popped everything in the oven for a bit. That fixed the fries, kind of. The fish, nope. It's like they fried it when it was too wet or had just been thawed, so it just leeched moisture back into the batter & there was no fixing it. The breading wouldn't crisp and just fell apart. The most egregious sin of all though, is that they are selling fish & chips at a British pub with ROOM TEMP KRAFT TARTAR SAUCE PACKETS you couldn't pay me to eat that! I am shocked that more people haven't called them out for this. What is authentic about that?? And for a $30 plate, really? You can't mix some mayo, dill, and relish together and call it homemade? Disappointing and disgusting. All in all, a huge waste of money. I was excited to finally try this place and man oh man, what a let down. I'd recommend a McDonald's filet of fish over this, it'll save you $25. But on a positive note, I guess this helps my diet since this meal was largely inedible.

Yelp
Fish and chips meal. Atmosphere was very good. Good variety of food. Service was good. The food was good. I did not worry about the food being "bland" as others have mentioned. It's British fish and chips. It's bland. The sauces are what carries the food over the finish line. The fish and chips where not crispy. They look like they would be. But they are not. Which is fine. Price on the yelp app is $9.95. It was approximately $22 and some change. We did have sticker shock. But other than that. All good! Thanks Jerry for the great service.

Yelp
This was a recommendation from my spouses co-worker that knows we love a great meal. Interior is a basic pub look, where you seat yourself. So if you're looking for fancy, this isn't it but don't be discouraged. The service was great and so was the food. I love a great fish and chip and theirs was well prepared and visually appealing. Just enough crisp and flavor and the proper size. I loved the wedge fries instead of traditional cut fries. We also had the linguini with salmon. Which was prepared well. Not too much going on in the pasta which was a plus but lacked no flavor. I'd definitely return but would skip the cocktails and just get a beer.

Yelp
We decided to come here for a late Sunday lunch. But first, I read through many of the post Covid reviews to see what my fellow yelpers had to say. The fish and chips seem to be the star of the show and if anyone leaves less than a three star review, Tim J, the business manager, will most likely rip you a new one lol. Having been raised by British parents and dined in the UK, to be honest, the food usually tends to be bland. The same could be said about British beer as they do not hop up the beers like they do here. As for this place, it's located in a modern strip center with some English illustrations on the walls. They do have a very good beer menu, but only one English beer and of course Guinness. They also have a great selection of tequilas and whiskeys. They have a QR menu, but they'll bring you a hardcopy if you want. We both opted for the fish and chips and it came out piping hot. You get 4 small containers of smashed peas, curry sauce, tarter sauce and ketchup with it. The potato wedges that come with it were clearly not previously frozen. You better come hungry if your gonna finish the full-size fish and chips. It's like an episode of "Man vs Food". They do have a decent selection of desserts, but we were pretty filled. Our server Dougan was welcoming, attentive and humorous. When it is time to settle up you can pay with the QR code or let them whisk away your credit card. This place has a lot going for it, which will have us coming back at some point.

Yelp
We went to Kenny Fort for Father's Day. We arrived at 11:20 AM and it wasn't crowded at all and we were seated right away. Our party of six ordered fish and chips, hummus and the chicken tenders from the kids menu. The food was delicious! Sherrelle was our waitress and she was amazing. She was so friendly and kept our drinks filled. Our food was hot and came out in a timely manner. We will be back!!

Yelp
I've been meaning to check this place out for awhile and finally did yesterday to watch the arsenal v liverpool game. The space is way bigger than I expected and they have a projector big screen and a decent amount of other tvs. Good selection of local craft beer with about 20 options...I had 2 guiness and my fiance had a paloma cocktail. They also have surprisingly good rare bourbon although I'm not sure how its priced. My buddy had bangers and mash and my fiance and I got a small fish and chips (still a lot of food) and preztels with beer cheese. All the food was pretty good and the servers and bartenders were friendly. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
This place was very interesting.... It was standard British Pub food... but the music they played was all American. I don't know why that threw me off but it did... We went with the English breakfast... It was pretty tasty. In my humble opinion the Brits aren't necessarily known for their cuisine. Pretty standard stuff. They did a great job and their iced tea was surprisingly fresh and yummy... The staff was excellent and the food came out quickly....

Yelp
Food has been great and the staff has been friendly and helpful. There have been "off" days but nothing so bad that wasn't or couldn't be fixed. Pretty cool wall art with British influence and some Round Rock historical info. Unsure if they have live music in the evening but have seen 1 band during the afternoon on a Saturday and they were entertaining. Fish and chips is good and their cauliflower buffalo bites were delicious. Give this place a try.

Yelp
Wow! the food menu has really expanded and it is definitely our new go to place that's close by. The food still has its nod to English fare with some more options us North Americans are familiar with (I'll be back for some of those dishes!) The buffalo lollipops were sooo good and everything came out hot and fresh and super fast. Shoestring fries? GONE!! I felt like we could be loud with kids list because of how the restaurant is set up - very spacious. Our server was quick on his feet and he was very friendly. Don't wait to go for a visit if you've never been or try again if you were put off (like we were) the first time!

Dav D.

Yelp
We hit Kenney Fort, after lunch, around 2. So, they only had a few tables. The service was first rate, fast friendly and attentive. They have a pretty good selection of beers on tap. We were doing an early dinner, so we ordered food. The "Bangers & Mash" was very good. It is an open bar style and because of that it was pretty echoey. For a more "English Pub" vibe they should have gone with dark wood and low ceilings. That's just a minor point but during televised sport events I think the noise would be an issue.
google avatar

Derrick P.

Yelp
Very disappointed in a place that we love to eat as it reminds of our time living in England. Waited over an hour for food, two large fish and chips. Even more disappointing as we were the only customers ordering food with NO one else in the restaurant eating. They did apologize and offered to wrap it to take out but as we also experienced in England, fish and chips take out isn't amazing. Oh! They covered the pretzel and beer cheese as well.

Yelp
Who would've thought the best fish and chips I've had in years would be from a pub in Texas? Kennedy Fort British Pub is a hidden gem that delivers an authentic British pub experience right in the heart of Texas. The fish and chips are simply outstanding--crispy, golden seasoned batter encasing tender, flaky fish, served with perfectly done chippy that's not too big a wedge, but not small enough to be your typical French fries. Added with the complimentary malt vinegar, the acidity cuts right through the wonderfully seasoned batter and accentuates the flavors of the dish. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this place is a must-visit for anyone craving top-notch pub comfort food. Highly recommended. If I had to comment on one thing and be nit picky, the curry sauce could be enriched a bit as it's not as strong as ones I've had in the past. Regardless, the fish remains the star of the dish and the remaining sauces paired with it wonderfully.

Yelp
Came here on a whim because we were looking for a dog friendly location. It had just finished misting but Gage, our server was extremely nice and quick to set us up outside. He had excellent customer service, accommodating and very attentive...took care of the dog, us and just gave us a great experience for an unexpected visit!

Yelp
Great place to end your day with a cold beer and appetizer. Friendly servers and bartenders along with an amazing food menu. Give it a try and you will become a regular like us. Larry and Linda

Yelp
My home away from home The BLT? Amazing!! Did I say amazing? Yes it is and more!! A definite must try when you go. Great food great l, drinks and such fantastic group of employees.

Yelp
Excellent food and atmosphere. We had fish and chips, chicken jalfrezi, and bangers and mash, all of which were delicious with huge portions.

Yelp
Edit: Through the owners reply, the accent is authentic. Just goes to show how little I know about English accents. Went here for a couple of drinks and some food after work. The beer was great and reasonably priced. I like the selection and they have a few English beers which is nice. We ordered the bangers and mash to share. I thought it tasted great but my partner said it wasn't what she expected. The banger also tasted a little herby for her taste buds. I liked it though and was satisfied. The server was really nice and efficient. However she was talking with an English accent, I couldn't tell if it was authentic or not (see edit above for correction),. But she was a great waitress so we were happy. The room is dining area is huge. It's like it was designed to be a bar with pool tables. They have some TVs with sports playing and a bar area. The outside area is cool too. They have a few couches, chairs, games, and tables. I like this place and we will return.

Yelp
DELICIOUS food. First time here for an anniversary dinner. We tried bangers and mash and the fish and chips for dinner. We got the scotch egg for appetizer. Scotch egg was ON POINT. Sausage outside was crispy and egg perfectly cooked. It's a tad pricy $10 for one split egg but worth the splurge. Bangers and mash were tasty!!! The texture of the bangers was great and full of flavor. Could have used more of those perfect onions and more gravy!!! Presentation was kept in mind as well. Got the large portion of the fish and chips. It's quite the serving! All the fish disappeared at the sacrifice of half the chips that found a home in a take out box....be starving or get the 1/2 portion. The tarter sauce they make there is prob one of the best I've had. Fish was perfectly cooked crisp and thankfully not dreadfully over breaded and soggy. Will come again. Our server was friendly, gave us recommendations and was pleasantly easy going. He also listened to our stories of overseas grub memories. Dougan is his name and was fantastic

Yelp
Going to start of by saying I LEFT MY PURSE!!!!!! Yes I left my purse at a pub on a Wednesday night To say I was gut punched in the am when I went to go to work was an understatement,... my husband called first thing in the (even though they didn't open till 11) and someone answered!! They had my purse and held it in the back for safe keeping after they noticed I left it behind so to me that is AMAZING customer service so thank yall so much for tht you have no idea how much tht ment to me. Now to the review We had no idea Wednesdays were trivia night and we just so happened to decide to try this place for the first time after several years of saying we need to go here. As u walk in love the art on the walls of London. They have indoor as well as outdoor seating spaces. We sat inside due to the art work n weather haha N thought we give the triva a go Definitely recommend coming here Wednesdays for that Customer service was great, attentive and knowledgeable . Loved tht he consistently made sure we were good n had everything we needed Lots of beers to choose from as well as other liquor We ordered: Two beers : GREAT price Scoth eggs: first time trying them n definitely worth giving it a go !! U won't be disappointed Fish n chips : HUGE ! Portion ( n I have to disagree with another reviewer when they said it was American size because the times we've been to London tht is the size we got). Now I will say I love chip!! But wasn't to much of a fan of these only because they were a bit hard n greasy Shout out to the tartar sauce was honestly extremely good n fresh! In all great gem ! Hope they are thriving n will let ppl know about this place.

Yelp
To be fair, we didn't eat here. We sat down and looked at their menu. Their prices are really steep for what they're offering. Fish and chips at a pub should not be 23.95. All of the prices were higher than we saw online. All seemed unreasonable. There was only one other table occupied at prime dinner time on a Thursday evening (630pm). We felt the price to value was just not there. We paid for the beer we had ordered and left. My husband did say that the specialty beer was very good. Only $6 for a pint, too. We went to Jack Allen's and paid less for a much more upscale experience.
google avatar

Justyn D.

Yelp
What can be said about this GEM !?! OMG this place is a breath of fresh air, but yet a food meca apparently!!! I missed the food but heard the service tied with it was just as impeccable!! What I can attest to is the BAR STAFF ... Dugan ( I hope i spelled that right) anyway amazing!! Conversation, recommendations and all the above was next level! I was invited by a buddy Curtis who swore by this place. He never lets me down and I will continuously frequent this bar! Trivia on Wednesdays 630ish? Show up, we can can all use a great time !!! Thank you KFPub for a great evening!!

Heather H.

Yelp
We always love to stop here on our way home for a night cap. They make a delish Old Fashioned and have a nice selection of beers on tap. We always get top notch service!

Yelp
Used Yelp to find an interesting place for lunch nearby and found this place. How did we miss it before? Our extended family are from the UK and we've been to the UK several times, so we know English pubs. During a late lunch it was fairly empty. The staff were super friendly and attentive. This does NOT happen in the UK where they completely ignore you. It's not rude there. Just the culture. It was nice to have English food AND service. The food: had the Scotch Egg, Bangers and Mash, and the Fish and Chips. Each were authentic and very, very tasty. The Banger gravy was incredibly rich and the portions are massive. Of note there is a huge beer selection and while I'm not into that, our family is and it is worth their time for craft beers. Overall it was a great experience and we'll be back for a proper UK assessment. I assume the nights get louder. After all, it's a pub.

Debbie M.

Yelp
If I could give them a 10 I would!!! Best food! Best service! Best ambiance! We had 12 in our party and the servers were fabulous!!! 2nd time dining while visiting from out of state. My family is coming back soon and I will on my next trip!

Jake G.

Yelp
Good bar with pretty good selection of beers on tap and mixed drinks. Service is good, not too crowded and not too noisy. We enjoy coming regularly as our neighborhood spot.

Yelp
Another great night hanging out with friends at Kenney Fort. Great service from Trey! Ask from him when you come.
google avatar

Yelp
Charming pub in a strip mall. Overall good fish and chips with a side of mushy peas (surprising delight), and one of the few places to find a proper scotch egg. Stop by if you're in the area. You won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Crystal L.

Yelp
Wow wow wow. The fish and chips are out of this world here. Oops, i forgot to start off by saying this little spot across from Kalahari when we stayed for a staycation was just the coolest spot to get some British noshing on in our Austin area! The tikka masala was top notch and so were our scotch eggs. The staff is friendly and the culinary staples are all greatly appreciated and service was swift! We appreciate the tasty eats and can't wait to return for more! The large fish and chips truly are large! Goodness, I love it :)

Meg M.

Yelp
Great pub! The food is fantastic, fish and chips perfectly breaded. Beautiful murals and has a wonderful authentic British Pub/Round Rock mashup. Giant screens for sports fans. Amazing service! Highly recommend!

Krystal S.

Yelp
Love their fish and chips! If you're hungry go for the large but be warned it's HUGE and super delicious!!

Steve J.

Yelp
I had to visit this place simply because they listed an ESB on-tap which almost no one does these days. Got there on a thursday, place is large and very well laid out. Service was outstanding. Food choice was huge so I ordered the fish and chips -- full order. This is not your standard F&C -- they did an entire side of a huge cod (see picture). Now, the disappointment -- no Spitfire ESB. But, they did have a Session Bitter that was outstanding. The single, biggest complaint is the place is a huge echo chamber. The owners need to seriously suspend simple noise dampening panels from the ceiling and I bet that will take care of most of the really oppressive echoing/noise. the place was only 1/2 full -- I can only imagine the oppressive noise once the place is full. And it is right next to the Dell Diamond baseball park -- so I can only imagine. Making plans to stay away from high traffic evenings would be a priority.
google avatar

Dan E.

Yelp
They have pretzels, alongside a great old fashioned. It's idea of what an English pub should look and act. The bartender was good to talk with. I'm not a pub expert, but it's a good time. Here my wife learned, don't order a Margarita in a pub, and don't order an old fashioned at a Mexican restaurant.

David S.

Yelp
Phenomenal people, well-crafted food perfectly fitting the theme, and an ambiance that reminds me of Ireland.

Yelp
Great place to grab a meal and watch the match! Would recommend bringing your friends.

Yelp
I love the fried fish from this place. The size is huge and it's very tasty. It comes with French fries or a salad. I wish there were more options for sides. I have never eaten there, I only get take-out. I recommend this place.
google avatar

William Z.

Yelp
First time here. Went with another couple to sample the fish and chips. In a stripmall off of hwy 79 not far from Dell Diamond. Not much ambience. We all opted for the small serving. The small serving is rather small so you might want to go for the regular portion. The fish was very brown on the outside and cooked well on the inside. To be honest, it was underwhelming. Certainly not the best fish annd chips I've ever had. Overall, it was average.

Ralph A.

Yelp
I was excited to experience this restaurant. I ordered my drink/appetizer/dinner when the server came to the table. The drinks arrived in good time. Next, the main course arrived...I asked where the appetizer was and the server went back to the kitchen and came out with both the app and the meal. He asked if I wanted him to return the meal and keep it warm for me. Uhh...yes! Then, after I finished the app, he cleared the plate and asked if I was ready for dinner. Yes, please. Then he disappeared...5 min; 10 min (I'm sitting there just waiting) then my original server noticed me and motioned she'd get my meal. She comes back with THE SAME PLATE of food that came out to me 20 minutes ago!! And guess what...it was Luke warm, at best. The gravy of the potatoes was thick, like it had gelled and been microwaved. But it gets worse...it was March 17, so I ordered the corned beef and cabbage. What a mistake!! It should have been called Corned Blubber and cooked salad cabbage! This was no brisket of beef...they served that second cut of the package that is more fat than lean. This was the first time, in my 60 years, that I didn't finish my meal. Service was terrible and the good was worse. Hopefully, this was a one-off kind of day for them...but, I'll never be back to find out!

Yelp
I rarely open up the printed ad pages that get sent to me but just my luck, I opened it up and found the page for this place and their happy hour just a few hours after my girlfriend saying how much we missed London! I know we all say our phones are listening, but I guess the newspapers are too! I even ripped the ad out of the paper to make sure we didn't forget to check it out - see photo. We're really glad we went to check the place out, especially during happy hour! It wasn't too packed when I went and I was seated right away and our server was very attentive the whole time. I went with a Guinness and pretty much stuck with the starters and got full from that. The Scotch eggs, pretzel and beer cheese, and the pork shank came out really quickly and were delicious! I'll be back for the fish and chips!

Yelp
This is the place to go with your kids, your husband, or your friends! I love their workers and their environment. Their food is magnificent I recommend so much and the owner is the nicest person ever!

Yelp
I took my Scottish friends here for the Euro's and had a great time. I'm no expert but I've been to London & Manchester and Kenny Fort's beer & food is comparable traditional pubs. Not the traditional redundant menu you see in British pubs but good pubs food. Loved the BLT. A proper beer selection. We live in a mediocre Microbrew and IPA world so it's hard to find places with quality beer selections. The place is bright & colorful compared to the dark wood traditional pubs. The staff and owner spend quality time with customers giving that social vibe that a pub should have. GGMU!

Yelp
In Round Rock for the night, we chose Kenney Fort because of its name, and the info about it. I mean, there are plenty of Irish pubs (well, maybe not plenty), but not nearly enough British pubs. This experience was one of the highlights of our short visit. We walked in and were instantly greeted by Dougan. We chose a bar table near the TVs and ordered a Gulf Kolsch for each of us. BTW, Dougan helped us pick our drinks. Dinner was shared---Tikka Masala and Salmon Linguine. We cleaned our plates. We were tired, but hated to leave the warm, welcoming atmosphere!
