The 20 Best Dive Bars in Los Angeles

"Historically, the cocktail lounge attached to Los Angeles landmark Canter’s Deli on Fairfax is where one ends the night. That’s the way it’s been here since it opened in 1961. And everyone who’s anyone has performed on its tiny stage including Joni Mitchell, Guns N’ Roses, and Lenny Kravitz. Grab a beer and Reuben, chat up some locals, and stick around for an impromptu jam session." - Eater Staff

The Ultimate Soups of South Jersey | Eater Philly

"Comfort food offerings fill the menu at The Kibitz Room in Cherry Hill and the matzo ball soup fits perfectly within this category. I visited this establishment on May 8th with my mother.. taking her out for an early birthday / Mother’s Day lunch, and I must say the service and food was delicious. From the matzo ball soup to the pastrami and corn beef sandwiches… it was so tasteful. When leaving my mother wanted some desert so we purchase the Jewish apple cake and Mark who was so very nice gave my mother some small desert treats to take with her. This was my second time here. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a nice clean place to eat, food delicious and great customer service

I had a doctor's appointment this morning in Voorhees. I stopped in to the Kibbitz Room for breakfast. First time I've been there since before the pandemic. They're in a different unit in the same shopping center. Plenty of seating and warm reception and very quick service. Omelet was very good, their bagel was fantastic. Home fries were good but I'll ask for them well done next time. I didn't get my server's name, but she was warm and friendly and very attentive and prompt! Great experience all around.

Google
The Kibitz Room Est. 2003 Layout/atmosphere *Tables; window counter with seats; tables on sidewalk; parking lot Food/drink *Pickle bar in back (enjoyed the spicy pickles, not a half of the half sour) *Jewish Cheesesteak (Brisket, coleslaw, Russian dressing and Pepper Jack cheese on seeded hoagie roll) with French fries - Good; some heat from the cheese; fries were well seasoned *Potato Knish (round) - solid

Google
Poor server was all alone, so it’s not her fault the service was bad. The sandwich was supposed to be a hot pastrami- it was a cold, zero tasting pastrami. Pickle bar was closed because they hadn’t gotten a delivery. Th potato pancake was tasteless. I’m trying to understand why I heard this place was good.

I am blown away by the exceptional service and attention to detail from The Kibitz Room! I was planning a small luncheon for 4-6 people and reached out online for suggestions. A few people tagged The Kibitz Room, and to my surprise, they personally messaged me to offer their help. Their recommendations were spot on, and the food was delicious. But what really impressed me was the extra effort they put into making sure my luncheon was special. It's clear they value their customers and go above and beyond to provide a great experience. If you're looking for a restaurant that truly cares about its customers, look no further than The Kibitz Room. Their personalized service and attention to detail make them stand out from the rest. Highly recommend!

In a visit to the Kibitz Room, Cherry Hill last month I was so disappointed to find that the “local” Jewish style deli feeling wasn’t really there . The first thing I noticed when I walked in was that all of those amazing loaves of bread were relegated to a handful. The famous pickle bar wasn’t as robust with some of the items being moved behind the counter. The deli cases with the food displays that made it feel like a deli were not as robust and replaced with bowls that changed the atmosphere. I had the worst corned beef(I believe it wasn’t cut properly)It appears that the main focus is the new location in PA. While the owners remain the same, Cherry Hill is under new management and only two employees remain from before the change. I wish Brandon was still invested in maintaining Cherry Hill for what made it the go to place. If it’s not broken don’t change it.

Google
The food is delicious. Old school Jewish style deli. It's a smallish place, not for big parties, that I could tell anyway. Took a seat at a table closer to the entrance. The server cleaned a table and moved us to a better location in the restaurant. That was a very nice gesture from her. The beverages are self serve as was the complimentary pickle bar. The pickle bar! I love pickles and this didn't disappoint . They had a variety of pickles, sweet, sour and spicy, along with some other picked choices. It was a difficult decision between the corned beef, pastrami and brisket. They have sandwiches, hot or cold, rubens and breakfast served all day. I decided upon the Jewish Cheese Stake sandwich. Brisket, coleslaw and pepper jack cheese, I couldn't go wrong. My wife got the corned beef with omelet with Swiss cheese and potato cakes. Both dishes came out fast and hot. Service continued to be on point. My sandwich was fantastic. The brisket was tender, the coleslaw added some sweet and tangy and the melted pepper jack pulled everything together. This was served with a side of steak fries that were golden brown. I love the thick cut steak fries. My wife's omelet came with thin hockey Puck sized potato cakes that were equally delicious. In the end, this isn't a very posh place to impress your girlfriend, but the food and service are amazing. A great place if you are looking for a Jewish Deli experience.

I absolutely loved my food!!! I love to eat good when I visit nj cause its home. Please go on an empty stomach the portions are big!

Yelp
WOW! Great lunch! Perfect service! Pickle bar! Highly recommend! I really enjoyed this unassuming strip mall spot.

Yelp
So i was heading to cherry hill and am always up for a good jewish deli. So far PAs offerings have been lacking. Pulled into the strip mall to see it tucked in near the corner. Stepped into a small tightly packed space. Bakery& Deli cases & counter on the left, tables on the right and a pickle'd bar in the back. Menu has all the usual suspects and more. I had the ruben which was stacked high with corned beef. It was pretty lean for not asking for lean. A Dr Brown was mandatory and the had them all. My friend got the brisket sandwich and it didn't disappoint either. Sitting and eyeballing the cases as we ate let us plan what to take home. Matzo ball soup, stuffed cabbage, rye bread and chocolate chip cookies. These were all delicious and are someone's bubbies recipe's. No amidst all this love i need to send a warning too. The prices are $$$, for a sandwich 22 bucks, however you get a side and the pickle'd bar included. You definitely wont leave hungry and while pricey i will be going back...after payday

Yelp
MDW, and I took our two cousins that flew in from Florida to fress @ the K B. Mixed reviews on their visit, the cup (which is really a bowl) of cabbage soup that I had was a home run. Cousin # 1's hot pastrami was a little dry, and to lean for her taste, Cousin #2's bagel, lox and cream cheese (on a plain bagel that all they had at lunch time) was good. My hot tongue sandwich was good, juicy, and very enjoyable. My dear wife however was disappointed with her hot brisket platter it was dry even with gravy, with no seasoning. Sides of potato pancakes were a little greasy without any seasoning. An egg cream ordered was far from what you would call a true soda...The pickle bar was excellent, everything on it was great. Would I go back, most certainly, but I would only order certain items...
google avatar

Jennifer R.

Yelp
The portions are generous, and my kids love the pickle bar! A great place to stop to eat-in or take out.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite delis in New Jersey, I am actually surprised I haven't reviewed it yet but most of the time it's lunch for work and I'm picking up. The atmosphere changes right when you walk through the door. The decor reminds me of a New York style Jewish deli which I grew up on. The staff is very nice and welcoming but moving non-stop due to heavy traffic! That should tell you something. My wife went with the Nova Lox platter and it was massive and loaded with all the fixings. Their inclusive pickle bar was so good, pickled tomato's, peppers, cabbage, and multiple flavors of pickle, my favorite the hot and spicy . The quality of fish was excellent, loaded with flavor. I decided with the corned beef and pastrami on rye with Swiss, Russian Dressing, and Cole Slaw. It was massive and we'll worth the price tag. I think a lot of people forget what goes into having a highly favored restaurant with quality and homemade goods. I will go back every-time! P.S. always get a square knish for the table !!

Daniel C.

Yelp
Quickness of take out. Great sandwich! Pickels too! Fresh pastrami and all the fixings
google avatar

Yelp
Order today. Eat for a few days! I have yet to have a meal inside here, but I've ordered takeout several times. It's hard to say what I've enjoyed the most. I've had a turkey meal, pastrami, corned beef, a hot dog, soups, scrapple (yes, scrapple), and slices of cake that is big enough to feed six people easily. All of the meals are made on-site and have been so enjoyable that I look forward to this as a change from the norm when eating out. If you've never been, they're open early for breakfast through dinner hours. There's literally something for everyone on the menu there.

Yelp
Kinda of disappointed that a $21.00 corn beef special was weak, dry, very little coleslaw, very little dressing for the money not worth the price. Waitress service was great and this place is just a so so Jewish Deli. Good pickle bar highlight of the trip.
google avatar

Yelp
Had a BIG meal for our party of 3 and wound up taking quite a bit home (Yes, portions are enormous!). Great service from our server (female) but the lady at the front cash register is very "brusque". I softened her up a bit, but WOW. Icy-cold and very abrupt. Meanwhile, those matzoh balls are light, fluffy, delicious - and, of course, HUGE. Cheese Blitz (just get one - yes one for $6.95 - but it's gigantic) is stuffed with lightly sweetened cheese filling and the blini/crepe itself is so comforting and tasty. Decadent deep-fried latkes. And a decent mac and cheese, too! Hit up the pickle bar if you are dining in. So good! Thank you.
google avatar

Steve J.

Yelp
Huge sandwiches, huge flavor, super friendly service. What more can you ask for. Pastrami is super tasty as well as the corned beef. The pickle bar is amazing. Inside and outside seating for those nice nights that you want a huge sandwich. The glutton for punishment sandwich is so good.

Christine W.

Yelp
I live in Belgium and when I visit South Jersey I always go to the Kibitz room. It was even better than I remember! I had a Pastrami Reuben! My goodness it was absolutely delicious! Sliced nice and thin just like I like it! Sharon was our server, she was so patient and nice( which was greatly appreciated. It was my friends first time and she had a lot of questions.) We also met the owners son Brandon, he was so nice and friendly! I highly suggest the Kibitz Room!
google avatar

Michael N.

Yelp
Hot Pastrami stacked to the sky, an obese kinish and matzo ball soup by the gallon all conspiring to embarrass you for attempting to get off on the cheap at an inferior sandwich shop. The Kibitz Room in Cherry Hill is an amazing Jewish deli that will spoil you for anything else. In the tradition of the delicatessen greats from the lower east side in Manhattan, you'll need two hands and the dislocated jaw of a python to consume your lunch. The cost is mighty but who cares. As they said in Field of Dreams... "It's money they have but peace they lack." Take the trip to Cherry Hill. You won't be sorry... and bring your inner python. An easy five knishes.

Yelp
OK, I had a weird experience here and I hope this hasn't happened to other people. Ordered over the phone. Went to pick it up. Got inside, and stood by the cash register that said Pay Here. A lady was helping this 3-person group get cake, and then pay, so I stepped back. They left, and she slightly walked away. But came back when this old couple wanted to pay. Again, I'm in front of the register and an old guy literally bumping elbows with me, pushing me out of the way. Side note, the lady NEVER made eye contact with me. The old couple pays and yep the lady just walked away again. A server was in the food case doing something and I chimed in "Hi, sorry to bother you but I'm just trying to pick up my order..." Oh sure! She was nice and lovely. I have no idea what the heck was going on with the other lady. Anyway. The Reuben fries were delicious. And the cheese blintz was incredible (got the blueberry sauce with it).
google avatar

Raymond J.

Yelp
Fantastic Jewish Deli here! Had breakfast and dinner options here and honestly even though the price is sky high.... The portions are serviceable! Did a pastrami egg and cheese one day and it was triple the meat compared to another place. Had my first Corn Beef Reuben ever here and must say it was an absolute pleasure. Service is quick and easy. Need to grab a sandwich from here soon!
google avatar

Orion S.

Yelp
This place is extremely casual but the food is delicious and they give you the biggest portions. You can just seat yourself, grab whatever drinks you like, help yourself to their amazing house-made pickles, and they'll take care of the rest. There's usually only one server running around but she's great at what she does. Go here, order a sandwich the size of your head, eat some delicious pickles, and don't forget to get some hamentaschen on the way out.
google avatar

Pam R.

Yelp
Door dashed a large order for our office. Everything listed on receipt. Too bad they didn't follow the instruction on what was ordered. I paid like $20 for a ham and Swiss sandwich on rye with mustard. I got a ham sandwich with MAYO and no cheese. For $20? Should have ordered from Wawa. As always, disappointed. Won't order from here any more. I'm out $20 and I hate mayo. Gross. Oh and gave no plastic ware or Napkins. We spent around $200.

Bruce G.

Yelp
Yom Kippur platter w Bagels and whitefish and so much more for 25 people. We all know how much it costs and rightfully so. I asked for everything and onion bagels and literally 1 everything bagel. The one night of the year everyone eats a bagel and just plain sesame and wheat. Not even cinnamon raisin. Figure it out dont run out no excuses. What is this your 30th year doing this?
google avatar

Charles M.

Yelp
The food is amazing and they give you a lot more than you can eat on premises. I have never had a sandwich this big! And I've tried them from Michigan to Jersey! I'm so upset that I just found out about this place. I lived in Cherry Hill about 7 minutes away from 2008-2012 and I never encountered this spot. I know it had another name, but I frequently went to this plaza and overlooked it. But I am glad I know and have had a chance to try it. The pickle bar was amazing. The food was great and the cakes we left with were okay. We took about 6 cakes home that are $10-12 a slice and some other pastries.
google avatar

Kelly K.

Yelp
Pastrami sandwich was good. Opted for a latke on the side with sour cream. I liked the latke. The pickle bar needed to be restocked when I was there. The dining area is cramped and was chaotic with only one waitress. I was not able to get her attention after she brought out the food. I finally went up to the counter to ask for bill and a to go container for half the sandwich.
google avatar

Eugene A.

Yelp
If I'm looking for pastrami, this is where I go. You can be a little surprised at the price until the sandwich arrives. An absolute mound of delicious meat that is impossible for me to finish. The half sandwich is plenty with the full easily shared between two. The place is always jumping. Cases full of tempting foods and desserts. I love coming here. Always friendly service esp considering the pace of the business.
google avatar

Heather L.

Yelp
Placed my order via phone, got a potato knish, order of latkes and matzoh ball soup. Potato knish (hot) was fresh and filling was good, I prefer the shreddy latke style but these were still pretty good and crunchy, really enjoyed the soup and that they put the matzoh balls in a separate container so they don't get soggy. Overall they are a little pricey by would definitely come back.
google avatar

M H.

Yelp
Great food. Nothing like a good corned beef special to make a guy fall in love + pickle + potato salad.
google avatar

Maria-Elena T.

Yelp
My sister and I came here for lunch in a weekend day. We sat at a table and got excellent service. I loved the pickle bar and wished I ate more of the sweet pickles! I ordered a Swiss cheese sandwich on rye. Bread was a little dry. My sister got the corned beef and pastrami and loved it. She helped herself to a fountain drink and I got a water out of the refrigerated case. Both sandwiches were HUGE and will be 2-3 meals. When we left I got an eclair and a piece of cake to go. The coconut cake was so big, so heavy, and so good. Icing was sweet which I liked. Forgot to take a picture :(
google avatar

Jenny K.

Yelp
3.75/5 Craving for chicken salad so decided to try this place out Got half a chicken salad sandwich on rye bread w/ cheese and lettuce with a side of fries The chicken salad seemed fresh made but the chicken was huge chunks and super dry. It needed more seasoning and more Mayo. The fries were decent but the pickle it came with was a dud which was disappointing. The rye bread was good tho. All in all, maybe their other sandwiches are good but their chicken salad was way too dry and flavorless for me
google avatar

Christopher D.

Yelp
Came hungry, more like hangry. We showed up early and we're able to easily seat ourselves Sharon was quick to come over with menus. The sandwiches look huge and the food in display cabinets make my eyes tear. The pickle bar was just eh. Nothing stood out. And I tried them all The corn beef on the Reuben was very good very lean but the rye was not toasted and the Swiss was just laid on top and not melted. A pretty big disappointment. 3 stars on it Make sure if you get an omelette to ask what goes in it. A lot of eggs, light on cheese. 3.5 stars Of course I only ate half the sandwich, now you know why the Cardiac wing of the hospital is right next door
google avatar

Captain Fred H.

Yelp
This is a place to get great deli food! I love the pickle and sauerkraut bar! The service is fast. Know what you want when you get there, you could loose your place in line looking at all the delicious food available.
google avatar

Pasquale M.

Yelp
Managment does not care , Also something they do is wrong, they have on the board Chicken Salad and Healthy Low Fat Chicken Salad well hate to tell you it's the same exact thing in both they put into separate bins in cooler but you must fill them up in the back since they are the same and don't want customers to see it. They don't even use low fat mayo. That is false advertisement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'! Also the atmosphere of employee's is so much tension

warren w.

Yelp
Great food! Matzo ball soup was amazing! Nova platter was delicious! And that black and white cookie was fantastic! Generous portions. Our service was super attentive and kind.

Nepotism S.

Yelp
I mean it's Kibitz, they have been around forever I feel. Their food sizes are over the top so you don't mind paying a little more. The pickle bar is awesome. Everything there is fresh fresh fresh. Can't go wrong!
google avatar

Shaun T.

Yelp
Really a 3.5. I have to say I have not been to this restaurant, I am the beneficiary of a catered lunch in an office. The spread was impressive with pastrami, corned beef, chicken salad and more. The half coned beef sandwich is ample, really big. Likewise the pastrami. Both on fresh rye and delicious. The potato salad was bland for me. Pickled green tomatoes, pickles and hot cherry peppers are nice sides. Overall quite good, sandwiches better than the salads.
google avatar

Gully N.

Yelp
Egg salad smelled and tasted like raw fish. That was disgusting. Not sure how they managed to make egg salad smell and taste like raw fish.

Allen S.

Yelp
Great food; fast service; a pleasant waitress! The prices are right and the pastrami was lean !

J M.

Yelp
I had high hopes for this place. It's usually on one of those top places lists. So, I expected better. The portions are on the large size which is consistent with the price. The issue I had was with the meats being a bit too lean and the sandwich being dry. It's a lot of meat and being that dry is just not great. It's the same for the corned beef and the pastrami. The Reuben was a little better but not because of the meat. It simply felt less dry because of the toppings. Overall, I give it a three star.

Rick M.

Yelp
The soup was cold, no taste matsa ball was too big and a drop of broth, worst ever had Dirty tables & floor, glass on deli was crusty dirty Black paper napkins are gross how do u know if they r dirty? Food safety? Sharon waitress is a doll, she is great Desserts are fresh /delicious

Anthony M.

Yelp
I don't like to criticize a business but this place is really disappointihit. -Meat in sandwiches was good but wasn't hot. -rye bread wasn't fresh -macroni salad was dry & old shouldn't of been served -slice of cake was $12 wasn't good or fresh -floor was dirty and apparently now swept How can you stay in business like this ? -----Sorry enough said-----

Phyllis F.

Yelp
Food was very plentiful and good. Atmosphere not great. People rude snd nasty and doing you a favor!
google avatar

Deborah M.

Yelp
I have nothing but nice things to say about this deli. It was my first time there and the counter guy Steve took my order he was very nice. I had the shrimp salad sandwich and the shrimp were huge not salad shrimp but these suckers were huge. I had lettuce, tomato and onion on it with rye bread. I got the whole sandwich instead of the half and it was enough for two. The potato pancake was delicious too. They had other items besides. They had tables in there to dine in or you can take out. I am not ashamed to say I really pigged out on the sandwich everything was fresh. They also had a pickle bar. Clean inside it is just a nice Jewish deli with great food.
google avatar

Tino V.

Yelp
Loveeee this place just went for a second time i lived in New York and it feels like it from the second you walk in the food and service is great everyone there is very nice I highly recommend it if you like Jewish food or if you're trying for the first time
google avatar

Alicia S.

Yelp
I've loved the Kibitz Room for years! Everything is consistently delicious and fresh. And HUGE! Mmmmm! Favorites are Matzo Ball Soup and the Kibitz Chef Salad.

Keith B.

Yelp
Amazing food and a lot of it. We have been there numerous times and we are always very satisfied. And as always the service was excellent.
google avatar

Gary M.

Yelp
WOW! Very casual dining at its finest. Don't have to be Jewish to enjoy the delicious varieties of deli they serve. We split a bowl of mushroom barley soup. OMG the rich flavor dances all over the taste buds. Next we split a warmed corn beef special sandwich. The meat was not only lean but tender and juicy!! It came with a potato pancake like your granny / buba would make. The pickle bar had all the usual favorites. The health salad being my favorite. Washed it down with fresh brew iced tea. sooooo full and soooo content! Although not cheap, it was worth every dollar! ANYONE who knows GOOD deli will appreciate this gem
google avatar

Aurora P.

Yelp
First time eating here. Really cute little deli. I loved the self serve soda coffee corner and what can I say about the pickle bar. Yes I said pickle bar. An unlimited supply of pickled item all fresh made. I could've just sat there. I ordered a corned beef special of course on rye and I got a potato pancake as a side with apple sauce. I also couldn't t resist the matzo ball soup. Hubby ordered a roast beef on with Swiss and Cole slaw as a side. There's a note next to it that says half a whole. I thought it meant half a sandwich but it means half and whole pounds of meat. Well needless to say I have half a sandwich in the fridge. The potato pancake was amazing. Fresh applesauce and the sandwich was out of this world fresh rye bread. The waitress and counter people were helpful and friendly. Stop by and check it out. Also portions of there proceeds go to the war effort which is an amazing thing.

Bo F.

Yelp
The food is great but WOW they are SO rude! I've been there twice and will not go back again. Even their great food is not worth the attitude. They are not exactly cheap, either. Bo F

Elspeth K.

Yelp
Well, Hymies on the mainland it isn't. I ordered a Reuben and 1/2 lb of Russian dressing. The dressing didn't make the order when I picked up my take out. The sandwich was acceptable however, the pastrami was akin to spam in texture. Tasty but not exceptional. I suspect it was bought not house made. I will try the restaurant one day soon.

Yelp
Was quite pleased with my lunch at the Kibitz Room. After a day exploring the Battleship New Jersey, the family was hungry and needed a late lunch. I'd had this place on my radar (no pun intended) for the past few months, and thought this was the perfect excuse to stop by on the way home. The place itself is very clean with an extremely impressive display case. We opted to dine in, so the waitress came over quickly with menus and patiently walked us through the menu and helped us with suggestions. Ended up splitting a pastrami on rye with a side of potato pancakes with the wife while the kids got hot dogs and fries and the table shared a cheese kugel and tried literally everything on the small pickle bar. Unlike most Jewish delis I've been to, the meals at the Kibitz Room are actually normal human-sized portions. If you're looking for a mountain of meat piled precariously on comparatively microscopic bread, you'll be disappointed. The price-to-food ratio is a bit steep, but the quality is quite good and the service is great. I'll be back when I'm in the area again!
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
The best matzah ball soup. Homemade fries, delicious pickles, and out of the world sandwiches
google avatar

Allie A.

Yelp
Decided it'd be a good idea to start a new tradition - heading to a Jewish deli the day after Christmas! I should have come with a Jewish friend who could help me out with suggestions. Lots of good looking salads here, but I had no idea what some of the tasty looking dishes were. I opted for a sesame bagel, which is my standby for trying out a deli. The pastrami breakfast sandwich was absolutely delightful. The egg was perfectly cooked and it was cheesy and hot and I didn't want the meal to end! Lots of to go orders of big deli platters were ready and waiting. They looked generous.
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
Terrific fresh homemade food at this local gem. The pickle bar has a variety of freshly made pickles; spicy, garlic, sauerkraut, etc. everything we've tried has been delicious! Try any sandwich, matzah ball soup, freshly made bread (the opinion buns are amazing). This time we tried the smoked turkey reuben. Very tasty! Service always feels like you have a seat at a friend or family member's home.
