"There’s a serene, romantic feel to this restaurant inside the charming Whatley Manor country house, which dates back to 1802 and sports 12 acres of formal grounds. The evening starts with snacks in the kitchen, before moving through to the dining room for the main event. Terse menu descriptions belie the detail and creativity in the artfully presented dishes, which come with some intriguing contrasts of texture and flavour. Extend your visit with an overnight stay in one of the luxurious modern bedrooms." - Michelin Inspector

What an absolutely beautiful and friendly place Malmesbury is. We had pre-booked one night with our 2 small dog's at the King's Arms and on arrival received a lovely warm welcome from Marianne. She showed us to room 6 in the main building and assured us we'd get our car through the narrow arch for their car park at the back ~ which we did. There was plenty of availability in the public car parks in town + in the high street. The King's Arms is nicely decorated through out. We had also reserved a table in the bar area and thoroughly enjoyed our meals, tapas and spicy lamb stew and couscous ~ well presented and tasted lovely. |Obviously staying in a hotel with an outside garden area and a popular indoor bar, there is always noise at closing time but we soon fell asleep! The pillows were comfortable but the mattress was slightly too hard for our liking (which is a personal thing) Bed linen nice quality though. A tray of tea and coffee was available. |On booking we were aware the hotel didn't provide breakfast but again Marianne was very helpful in her recommendations, plus advising plenty of nice walks in shaded areas for the dog's. |We can't recommend staying or dining here enough as absolutely perfect. Just like to say a big thank you to Marianne and the team we hope to return and explore some more.

Getting into the rear car park through the narrow driveway which is obviously a relic from the coach and horses days was quite an experience but no real problem, it's just that I'm used to wide Australian driveways. The rooms are converted stables but they have been converted with style and considerable cost. My room, facing south so the sunshine warmed the room, was well-appointed and comfortable. The pub itself, just a short walk away so you don't get too wet if it's raining, oozed charm and hospitality. The reception staff were most obliging and courteous. The hotel is centrally located on Malmesbury's High Street so you're close to all the major attractions of the town such as the Abbey, the Athelstan Museum and the Avon River walk. My only regret is that I could only stay for one night. God-willing, I shall return.

Positives - very warm welcome by Dan, made me feel at home and explained dinner menu, comfortable bed, spacious room, big desk and TV, Krups coffee machine and plenty of plug sockets|Lovely coffee house next door and The Birdcage Pizzeria up the road, The Whole Hog had good menu but I wouldn't feel comfortable as a woman alone||Negatives - sash window was not flush in the frame so cold and noisy as on busy main road, Dan boosted the heat so I could get some sleep|Took 5 mins for hot water tap to heat up|Shower smelt bad when switched on, had to run a few minutes (is legionella testing being done?)|No breakfast offering |No staff around in the morning so colleague got locked out when went out to move her car|Very narrow entrance to courtyard car park if you're in a 4x4 it's very tricky, in fact don't bother, parking nearby

Beautiful garden, delicious food and lovely location in Malmesbury. Mix of small plates and large.

I stayed over in one of the stables rooms which was tastefully fitted and decorated and the radiator and towel rail were much appreciated as I arrived soaking wet on my bike. This might be partly why the welcome when I arrived was rather cursory but everything else about the stay was great. I didn’t eat in the restaurant but it seemed pretty busy, the bar had a good atmosphere and the beer and service were great. I’d recommend Michael’s Butchers and deli for breakfast - worth the 10 min walk through the abbey!

My wife and I Iive in Burnivale with a lovely little liver and white Springer Spaniel. We are always welcome and the wee Doggie loves it as well. The views out the back are simply stunning over the glorious Cotswolds countryside. |The atmosphere is always friendly and engaging and the staff very considerate. Danny is brilliant and he is always so happy to be of help. |We have a little airbnb and our guests often come back from the KA full of plaudits. So feedback is excellent..|Great selection of wines, beers and spirits and a very nice Tapas menu.|An uplifting experience on the whole.

We stayed here overnight before my son's Dyson assessment day. What a great choice!! From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed and comfortable. The staff were efficient and super friendly. The room was characterful and quiet. The beds are comfortable. The shower was just right. We overlooked the back - the stable rooms and the fields beyond. We arrived too late for dinner, so we popped down the road, and there is a bakery almost next door plus a cafe a tiny bit further for a yummy breakfast. There is free parking at the back through a quaint arch. I was glad my car was small, but there were large cars, so must be possible for larger vehicles. I would recommend this as a place to stay. I wish we were staying longer. Very relaxing.

I stayed for one night. Room was spacious and nice. Bed was comfortable....I like a reasonably rigid mattress. It was a cold night and I could have done with an extra blanket....none in the room (although I didn't ask for one....I was fine until 3am). Room was quiet, so all in all I slept well. Food....I didn't eat at the hotel in the evening and there is no breakfast option onsite
