"A small, well-kept village in the shadow of the ‘Ayrshire Alps’ is the setting for this whitewashed pub with a traditional aesthetic and a cosy, homely feel. The extensive menu includes some global influences infused into the pubby favourites – such as the tom yum pork scratchings – and there's an underlying generosity to both the portions and the flavours. Every dish comes with a wine or cocktail recommendation from the well-priced list, and the warm, welcoming team show a real desire to please." - Michelin Inspector

This was our first visit to The Kirkmichael Arms but won't be our last. The food was exactly what we had expected as it came highly recommended. A bonus was it's all local produce that is used. Service was excellent with dishes explained to us by our server. Apart from the regular menu there is also a specials board. I opted for the char grilled squid from the specials board and it was delicious. For "atmospere" I gave 4 stars, for very minor points, that probably wouldn't bother anybody else. Firstly, as a driver, when I drink zero / low alcohol beer I like to pour it from the bottle so I can guarantee it's not normal strength. Secondly, we had a table for two but it felt as though we were pushed up against the wall underneath the "specials" board, so it felt like other diners were watching us when they were looking at the board. I know this might not bother some folk but I'm a bit fussy. However, we will be back soon to try more of the excellent food.

The food was outstanding. Starters to die for. Chefs have obviously worked in fine establishment. All staff were super attentive which makes the experience so much better. Only disappointing part was the sirloin steak, which wasn't cooked to medium, no problem sending it back to be re-cooked but came back slightly more done, definetly not medium. Felt the steak was underseasoned and I think for the price of it i wouldn't order it again, peppercorn sauce was pretty poor too, as were the trippled cooked chips. Nothing went to waste as the rest of the table ate it. I would definetly come back, like I say the food was outstanding, Best food I've personally had in a longtime. Just hope the cooking, and taste of the steak was a one off. I credible service too. Good work all round. Family were super happy.

Great food and friendly service. Dog friendly in the bar area 🐾 🐾- no reservations in advance for the bar area.

Popped in for a bite to eat after a blustery beach walk...busy Sunday, but I was given a nice table straight away, without any huffing and puffing. Table service quick, efficient and friendly. Meal was very "glamorous" and many other items were available from the wall board, to supplement the paper menu. Lots had sold out, but still a good choice. Lovely place, not awkward despite the high class food, nice bunch of staff and mix of diners - I would certainly go again either formally, for a celebration, or (like this visit), off the cuff, all windswept and 'natural'.

Excellent dishes curated and cooked by a very talented team (who are clearly so passionate about what they're doing and the food they source)! Each time I visit I've enjoyed the experience more and more. A must-visit spot when in or around the area!

The food is incredible, and the regular menu is supplemented by a packed specials board. The service is relaxed, friendly and very professional. The drinks selection is one of the best I've seen with a varied wine list, local whiskies, and a range of craft beers on tap. Of the cocktails I can definitely recommend the Mezal Ginger Margarita. I'll be back!

While on holiday near Ayr we decided to have Sunday lunch here after seeing the reviews and the menu. This pub/restaurant is absolutely outstanding in every respect. We ordered some dishes from the specials board but unfortunately they had just sold the last ones. The food we did eventually order was just fantastic though. I had scallops and then poached sole and my wife had gnocchi and roast beef sunday dinner. As an apology for being sold out of our original choices the owner gave us a 'mid-course' of Thai pork and chilli/fish sauce to share and that was delicious. Service was outstanding and it's obviously a very popular eatery in the area, I'd advise booking. Would definitely go back next time we're in the area.

Yelp
I don't think Yelp is as big in Scotland as it is in the States, but I couldn't leave here without writing a quick review. The food is delicious. The hospitality is fantastic. They have standard pub grub, but then they have lamb chops with mashed potatoes, veg, and a wine jus. Everything was tasty and if I'm EVER back here, I'll come back.

Yelp
Our innkeepers at the Enochlodge recommended this restaurant. It has a wonderful pub atmosphere and delicious local dishes. We had fish and chips, and a burger with chips. The chips (known as French fries in the US) were different for each dish, and equally delicious. We also had wonderful local beer. Our tableside neighbors turned out to be staying at the Enochlodge as well, and had haggis scotch eggs, which they raved about. Friendly, helpful staff as well.
