We stopped in here twice on our visit to Anchorage. Once with a food tour, then again on our own to get another donut and the samovar tea. They have fresh old-fashioned donuts in vanilla, birch, fireweed, cinnamon. We had them all and they were all delicious. It is a great little shop with all kinds of gift and souvenir items.

Cute shop! We ordered Cortado & peanut butter brownie. It was lovely.

Google
Wowza- this place is a gem!! The donuts are THE BEST old-fashioned ones I have EVER had. All the flavors were amazing- especially the fireweed and blueberry!! Super fresh! Love the gift shop too- try the house made tea- it is phenomenal- they give you a warm, free sample as you browse the gift shop. They even have a back patio with fire pits- love this place!!!!

Google
This was our first time visiting this store and I’m impressed! They have a ton of gifts from candy, to magnets, funny sayings/quotes, soaps, candles and more! We didnt get to try the bakery/coffee shop out though. Nina was super nice and gave the kids free candy samples as my wife shopped around. Great environment and friendly people, highly recommend!

⭐️🐻 Support Local! The absolute cutest coffee shop and gift shop! Tons of local Native Alaskan and Canadian made finds! Beautiful Alaskan Jewelry & Earrings without the price gouging (it’s double the price at the Museum down the block). Make sure you check out the adjustable copper bracelets in the case too! Artisan glacier soaps, souvenir photo frames, teas, ornaments, chocolates, children’s gifts and more. The Coffee Shop is also apparently really good with scrumptious old fashioned donuts - but just missed ‘em since they closed early on Saturdays.

Really good place for buying souvenirs and other curio items. We had tea samovar and spiced chai along with donuts. They were all good. They gave a variety of tea and can make any of them if we choose. Also some good old books. There is tea available to buy as well.

Google
So I heard so much about this place (reviews, YouTube, tour manager, fellow travelers). Thus, I can't leave Anchorage without visiting it. I was set to taste the famous Samovar glazed and Fireweed glazed donut. I was expecting something that tastes extraordinary, but it's just okay for me. Could it be that it was not freshly made? Like not fresh from the oven, I was expecting that it would be hot and tasty as what the other described. But nope, I was disappointed and couldn't really differentiate it from other best tasting donuts I had. There were 4 customers, including us, when we came. The cappuccino we ordered took a while to get served. I didn't order the famous Samovar tea. I was able to taste it, though (there's a free tea tasting within the store area). And I can say that Samovar tea is just as what they hype it for...perfectly blended if I may say. I love it and it is worth buying for your stash of tea or as gift.

Google
There's SO much to see here! There's such a variety of cute gifts, souvenirs, and knick knacks you can certainly spend a while browsing through it all. The café is the backside of the shop is nice, too. I enjoyed the Rose Garden Iced Tea Latte special. It wasn't very big, but was certainly delicious. I think in the future, I'll ask for light ice.

Yelp
There are a ton of tourist/gift shops in downtown Anchorage...all of them are very similar...except for the Kobuk which feels more historic (because it is) and offers unique tea, donuts, and other treats at their one-of-a-kind spot in the back of the store. When we walked in to the store (in search of donuts) we were immediately handed a sample of their samovar tea which my wife liked so much that she bought a couple packs to take home. We found our way back to the small cafe to be greeted by a display case of delicious-looking donuts, including unique, Alaska-only flavors like Samovar (the spices from the samovar tea included in the donut glaze) and Fireweed. They've got some "regular" flavors too...everything looked really good. We got the samovar and fireweed donuts...we loved them both. My wife also had some of the tea...they've got more baked goods including scones and a daily soup. The place has a long and rich history in Anchorage which you can read about in the displays in the cafe. If you're looking for a unique treat, very good donuts, or souvenirs different from what they have at all the other shops downtown, you definitely should pop in here...it's a wonderful bit of Anchorage history to experience.

Yelp
I ventured into The Kobuk for a coffee one morning and was met with the pleasant aroma of teas. The entire place smells of warm spices. I decided upon a spiced chai and a fireweed doughnut. Both were very enjoyable and a perfect start to my day.

Sandra A.

Yelp
Great selection of teas and great gifts. They also serve some food although I didn't an opportunity to try them. I love the cute ambience of the entire shop.

Yelp
This store had many items to browse through and also has a small cafe in the back for tea, coffee, donuts and baked goods. The seating in the cafe is limited so not ideal for group settings, but perfect for 2 or to pick up and go. Customer service: The staff at the cafe and store were all helpful and friendly. Samovar donut ($2.50) - the donut was delicious with the perfect amount of crisp when you bite into it and soft while you chew. The size isn't too big but also not too small just a perfect size to go with tea/coffee. Green tea ($2.75) - a regular cup of green, a large selection of tea options to choose from here.

Yelp
Came here twice to get coffee. It was very good and they have so many flavors. The donut I got was also really good and I'm not even a donut person.

Yelp
This is a really cute coffee place tucked in the back of a space that shares a gift shop and a wonderfully aromatic tea shop. Cozy, minimal seating inside. Nice garden for seating when weather allows. Friendly, hard-working staff. It would be nice if they offered something more than pastries, but they were the only place open for breakfast if any sort this morning, and thanks to staff for coming in for morning hours in this national holiday (7/4/2024).

Kendra K.

Yelp
Great coffee and tea shop with lots of items and unique teas in Anchorage. Small business. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We spotted this little shop as we were walking thru the drizzle in downtown. If I am on foot, and have time, it's almost impossible for me to pass by a tea shop without walking in. So walk in we did, to see if there was any tea I'd be interested in bringing home. They had a lot of loose teas as well as packaged teas available, but the shop was really packed, and walking through was difficult. At the counter in the back, we ordered their spice chai which was pretty good, and tried one of their fireweed glazed donuts which was a little on the sweet side. It is a nice little shop which could use a little bit more space.

Yelp
Stopped here after the Anchorage trolley tour for a hot cup of coffee. The Kobuk has so much to offer from their gift shop, candies, bakery, and coffee shop. I enjoyed learning about the history of the Kobuk from their website. I highly recommend stopping here for a real historic Anchorage experience and an expresso.

Yelp
What a visually colorful, busy little shop and cafe. The floor and aligned with hand & commercially made keys chains, cards ornaments, old schhol candies, tea/coffee jars or packaged, old fashioned donuts and many more chatkies. I decided to get a tea and long awaited dessert. Old fashioned donuts that were formed a little differently when thinking donuts, which were scrumptious. Left and came back to do a little trinket shopping as well as get some of the delicious Mint Julep & North Country Sleeper. Soothing a flavorful minty aroma and taste. Also, found a striking green and red jewelry puff. This was a good shop to find and purchase local handmade items and other gifts. Also, if you need a quick jolt, there is a cafe that serves tea, coffee and light pastry items.

Yelp
I'm born and raised in Alaska so I'd like to think I have a pretty good idea of where to go if you'd like to find something "hidden" and unique. The Kobuk, although small, is one of the most enchanting stores I've ever been in. It's a rare spot that pulls you in and and makes you feel like you've found treasure. When you walk in, a warm , spicy yet sweet scent greets you and it's a smell I've never had replicated as belongs to The Kobuk alone. There are three areas, one side of the store is a gift shop, the other is filled with old and new fashioned candies and there is something there for everyone. Towards the back you'll find the donuts, teas, and coffees. I love their donuts, I can't pick a favorite between the raspberry and fireweed but if you visit and see this comment, I'd love to know!

Yelp
It's been awhile - last visit was in the before times... 2019... donuts still worthy and coffee still good. If you know me... you know I prefer the local joints... even during high season. The coffeeshop is in the back of the gift shop... unless you come in the back door of the nice little patio.

Yelp
The donut shop is in the back of the shop. They served different flavors of the old fashion donuts. We got their original, samovar tea, and fireweed flavors. They are good donuts. I wouldn't say they are the best I've ever had. If you're in the area and craving for something sweet, I would recommend stopping by the shop and get some donuts.
google avatar

Yelp
The Kobuk is such a great shop. Before I get any further I must say you need to have a donut here if you haven't already. They are freshly made old fashions but idk what it is about them, they are SO good. You can get fireweed, vanilla, birch, and they had a new one made from tea. They have other flavors but it changes often. $2 a piece. Now for the gift shop. This isn't your typical Alaskan trinket store. It has a few Alaskan gifts, like handmade glass ornaments, earrings, stickers, etc. mostly I would call this a boutique shop, not an Alaskan souvenir store. They have many unique items, and there are things everywhere! They've got magnets, jewelry, dish towels, tea, mugs, international candy, gummies, chocolate, a kids section, things for cat and dog lovers, music boxes, seasonal decorations, and more. Lots more! Some things we have found were earrings, stickers, Charlie Brown hot chocolate, violet crumble, and donuts. $5 cars minimum or cash accepted. Works are very nice, it's a family owned business who used to live there as well. I have never gotten anything in the cafe Coffee wise. With COVID you have to order your donuts and pick them up Friday/ saturdays. We were there September 12, 2020 at 10am I imagine if you go later they sell out.

Yelp
Love this small little shop. Been in a few times for coffee in the back, they have baked, sweet treats for purchase too. I'm the front they have tons of bulk candy, gifts, novelties, and unique items from across the pond. They also have a bulk tea and coffee section and lots of tea pots and assorted tea accessories. Always fun to grab a cup of Joe and walk around looking at the neat stuff they have. Definitely a gem to stop at in the downtown thoroughfare.

Yelp
We were in town at Anchorage brewery and a couple we met strongly recommend we try this spot before we left, specifically the fireweed . The next morning we checked online and it said they opened up at 12pm. Assuming because of the winter hours ? Nonetheless, we had breakfast elsewhere but right at noon we went in and it did not disappoint. Although it was at noon they did not have a lot left over so not entirely sure if the online hours were correct at that point. We ordered 3 old fashioned but only 2 were left so we decided on the fireweed. Fireweed was by far the best flavor I've ever had ! I was told it was on the sweeter side which is why it was not my first option but I'm so glad I got to try it. It's the perfect amount of sweetness and not overpowering. Definitely will come back to this spot if ever in town again. Totally recommend.

Yelp
This place is so cute and amazing! We looked in the windows and knew we had to go in. The tea and donuts smelled heavenly, the ladies working were awesome, even the delivery guy had a sense of humor. If you are looking for a place where you can purchase different, possibly one-of-a-kind souvenirs or gifts, this is the perfect place to go. They have items for all ages, including just about everyone on your list.
google avatar

Yelp
Super cute tea shop in downtown! There are two parts to this place, the retail shop (which sells their teas and all sorts of tea paraphernalia and cute Alaska souvenirs) and the cafe in the back. They have several of their own teas but their signature and most popular tea is the samovar, which has cinnamon and is naturally sweetened with orange and lemon. You can sample the samovar in the shop. The samovar tea is so good and in the cafe, they also have samovar glazed old fashioned donuts which are some of the best donuts I have ever had. The interior of the cafe is really cute - from the ceiling are a bunch of folded origami cranes. It's a small and cozy space. The samovar tea and the samovar glazed donut were definitely worth a stop here! If you're at the airport with some time to pass - they also have a location at Anchorage airport too!
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
Not only is the shop and tea room amazing, but I placed an order online..not as good but it have to do until I can visit again. To sum up, there was an issue with the shipping and the wonderful team at Kobuk went the extra mile to make sure it turned out right! Great team, great stuff, I can't wait to come and thank you all again in person!
google avatar

Audrey J.

Yelp
Excellent find-my son and I went to find coffee-great gift shop and purchase espresso coffee beans and sampled the tea which was amazing. Little pastry/hot teas and coffees served in the back-the pink old fashioned donuts were very fresh and tasty.
google avatar

Brad A.

Yelp
We went for the donuts. We went back for the tea! The tea is wonderful. Recommend you try. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
What a lovely little shop! The coffee and tea are delightful and the Samovar donuts are super yummy. Thank you, Yelp Elite, for leading me here!
google avatar

Yelp
Downtown hidden gem. There is a gift shop up front, but venture into the rear of the ship and there lies a little coffee stand. They serve awesome teas, hand leafed, and mixed in whatever way you ask them. They are so patient and accommodating. I found the secret tea, the SAMOVAR tea. I love cinnamon and they have a tea that was my favorite. It was so good and lived up tot the hype. Don;t forget to try the "fireweed" glazed old fashioned donuts. Hand made in small batches with local "fireweed". It's a local plant that tastes like a berry, and is featured in some small shops in homemade ice cream and donuts like they have here. The coffee are in the back is small, so don't swamp them with your large party.

Rossana T.

Yelp
A must see when in Anchorage. Tons of gifts for everyone here. I bought their signature tea. They have w sample of it when you walk in. It's such a unique taste, bought 4 bags. There's endless amounts of fresh teas to buy. A coffee shop in the back with fresh donuts as well

Constance V.

Yelp
Fabulous donuts tea. It's wonderful place to get little gifts . Great friendly place to shop . Loved it !!!

Terry E.

Yelp
Cute cafe or lunch spot. We had tea and donuts, they were great. Shop has lots of items to look at. Good selection of food items.

Yelp
One of these is not like the others! Gift shops downtown, that is. Kobuk is quaint, it's cozy, and it has old-world charm. The place carries the scent of exotic teas and potpourris. The lighting is warm and the place is pretty stuffed with...stuff. You would not want to be a bull in this China Shop. Lots of trinkets and what-nots, but the good kinds. This isn't a place for plastic junk and gag T-shirts! There is a smaller off-shoot room in the back where you can get teas, coffees, and baked goods. It's pretty much a coffee shop within a gift shop. Warning: there is a $5 minimum on credit cards. I wasn't able to sample their coffee since I didn't have cash and I can't eat any of their baked goods (which I would've used to boost the cost above the $5 threshold). I'm going to try to come back another time with some fresh greenbacks.

Aeryn M.

Yelp
great service staff are always friendly! The shop is cute and full of the best little gifts and trinkets!
google avatar

Mike Z.

Yelp
This is your local tourist trap stop in the heart of downtown. They have some sweet, fun donuts and a great tea collection but it can get pretty crowded in there as it's full of knick knacks and random grabs. But you come for the warm drinks and donuts anyway. The donuts were pricey but no regrets trying them out.

Deborah O.

Yelp
Tucked in the back of a novelty store, warm fresh donuts are waiting. Terrific coffee. Friendly staff. Cute dining area with lovely patio.
google avatar

John Y.

Yelp
This place is so cool. Not possible to see everything. The staff is super friendly and I enjoyed my first visit. Next time I need to schedule an hour to really see what they have!

Chris S.

Yelp
Outstanding service & friendly staff, fun & cozy ambiance, delicious pastry & donuts (fireweed is very tasty), excellent coffee & hot chocolate!
google avatar

Franklin M.

Yelp
Old school since 1969. What an amazing gift and coffee shop all in one. They have a huge assortment of gifts to chose from and some locally roasted coffee to keep you shopping.
google avatar

Nicole R.

Yelp
Come for the cute touristy trinkets, stay for the homemade donuts. Seriously, their donuts are the best in town, particularly the birch syrup-glazed old-fashioned ones. The little café area in the back of the store is small but a nice place to enjoy a drink while you're downtown. Along with pastries they also have espresso and a wide variety of teas. The Kobuk is also a great place to stop for some unique Alaskan gifts. There's a lot of beautiful arts and crafts made by artists from around the state. It's a breath of fresh air on a street where most of the gift shops sell shirts and more generic items like that. Well worth the visit whether you're a tourist or a local.

Yelp
If you have never had an old fashioned donut from The Kobuk you aren't living life. This store is so cute and they have some really fun unique things! Support local small businesses and shop Local today!!! Cyrus Tip ~ They were voted BEST DONUT BY THE HUFFINGTON POST! Basically what we are saying is buy to share! lol :-)
google avatar

Paula L.

Yelp
Loved this cute shop! Loved the various items for sale, coffee, treats, and the tea! I loved the staff too. I wound up getting all kinds of stuff. It's probably the best gift shop I have ever been in. I Highly recommend it.
google avatar

Kaitlin R.

Yelp
Best donuts ever. Before I found out about my sensitivities, I treated my new coworkers to this secret shop all the time. My favorite are the Samavour glazed and the cinnamon cake donuts. I now only get the local Kobuk samavour tea that is delicious. I also enjoy browsing the little gift shop that has adorable items that are perfect souvenirs or small gifts. The building was the first grocery in Anchorage in the 1920s.

Yelp
I have loved The Kobuk for many years. When I had a job that brought me to conferences downtown, it was my favorite place to escape the hotel and pop over to. For years I referred to it as "the cute store" because the gift shop is full of cute things. The items constantly change, so visiting a couple times of year (when I'm lucky), there is always something new to see. Sometimes they have had nice discounts on damaged or old items. One year they had a lot of Jewish ritual items and I got a nice apple and honey set for Rosh Hashannah. I'm pretty obsessed with tea so it is always fun to look at all of the varieties that they have. On this visit, I had a free afternoon, so I walked downtown from midtown. I got a 16oz Republic of Tea dandelion tea and a pumpkin doughnut. I had difficulty choosing a doughnut flavor and the barista suggested pumpkin since it is only available seasonally. Both were wonderful and they went well together. There was only one other dine-in customer during my visit so the back tea room was very quiet and cozy. There was a steady stream of latte customers. It was a very nice afternoon, and I will keep The Kobuk on my list of places to visit in Anchorage when I want to recharge in between meetings and appointments.

B H.

Yelp
Great coffee and donut treats! Kids loved the hot chocolate as well. Give this place a try if you're in Anchorage!
google avatar

Sean G.

Yelp
1st off I am a local and want to say when your downtown this is a must. Go to the back cafe and get an old fashioned donut with some interesting flavors to choose from. Birch syrup, raspberry, and so many more. Locally own and operated this place is a gem. You will find true items made in Alaska at this location and not filled with 900 T-shirt's. Yes they have some but they are better than any of the junk you will get near by. Come down and enjoy this local gem
google avatar

Kayla H.

Yelp
A great spot for picking up a little gift. Half of the store has random gift items that are not specific to Anchorage or Alaska. This seems reasonable given that locals need gift options too. Anyway, the part of the store dedicated to shop-specific (teas) and Alaska-specific items was nice. I ended up buying several gifts including some samovar tea (amazing), a heart shaped tea strainer/spoon, and samovar scented soap. The samovar smells soooooo good, I literally want to waah myself in it. The shop had samples of it, which is good marketing because I was sold immediately. If I come back, ill definitely try the café part.
google avatar

Moriah K.

Yelp
What a lovely shop! I forget how wonderful Kobuk is. Prices are on the higher side but you'll find a collection of items that you really don't find anywhere else in town. They have beautiful dishware, adorable knick knacks, home items, handmade items, specialty soaps, and wide variety of loose-leaf teas. Enjoy a free hot sample of their house tea while you look around! It is cinnamonny but not too sweet and always hot and fresh. Other teas are available. Love this place.
google avatar

Yelp
First time visiting this business. The decor is very interesting, feels welcoming and has a great vibe to it. A huge difference from the standard Starbucks atmosphere. They have a huge selection of coffee and tea. They also offer a large variety of sweets and coffee/tea related items. The staff was very friendly and approachable. I ordered a large latte and a cake cinnamon donut. They were both amazing!! The shop has a patio with several tables/chairs along with a parking lot in the back of the store. Stop by if you want a different, yet trendy and welcoming coffee shop.
google avatar

Tiffany S.

Yelp
Sooo cute! The tea is fantastic quality and so many offerings to chose from. The staff is beyond friendly. Check out the patio in the back in the spring/summer it has a great view!
google avatar

Faith S.

Yelp
Super cute place I highley recommend. The lady there remembered us because during our trip, whenever we were in Anchorage we made sure to stop in here. Their donuts are the freshest and tastiest ive ever had! They have one made to flavor a tea they make there on sight and it was so great. LOVE LOVE LOVE
google avatar

Billy F.

Yelp
Great little gift shop with amazing tea. In my opinion the Samovar is the best, but there are many other good ones. The staff there is really nice, and let us stay there a few minutes after the shop closes. They let us try a few samples of tea, which was really nice. They also have a part of the store where you can buy a 16 ounce tea with a flavor of your choice There are a lot of little things that you can buy in the store. They also have a nice selection of soap, and most of them smell pretty nice, and although some things in the store are a little price, most of the stuff is at a reasonable price. The staff here is almost to nice, but the store can be kind of crowded with all the people in it, and the fact it is a little small. Overall, the Kobuk is my favorite gift shop in Anchorage? And I recommend everyone to try it out sometime!!!
google avatar

Nicole N.

Yelp
This is the cutest little tea shop that offers so much more! You could walk around this store a dozen times and find something new each time. Absolutely love the local stuff as well as treats from around the world. The samovar tea is a must...the scent will pull you into the store!
google avatar

Rick H.

Yelp
Just want a cup of coffee? Well, you're out of luck. $5 minimum. WTF? That's beyond lame. Fortunately, Kaladi just down the Street makes a great Latte. No stupid minimum purchase.
google avatar

Bill B.

Yelp
Get your latte and a maple glazed donut here. Store front has many decorative objects to purchase. The maple donuts are very good.
