The Kuala Lumpur Journal Hotel (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Bukit Bintang is the city district in which to eat, drink, shop, see and be seen in Kuala Lumpur, so it’s only natural one should want to sleep there, given the chance; that’s where the Journal Hotel fits in. A modern tower in the heart of it all, this boutique hotel features rooms decked out in vibrant colors, modern design, and mural-sized photography. The Swimming Club is Journal’s hip rooftop bar, themed like a hazily remembered poolside scene from an ’80s movie, with an infinity pool and views of Kuala Lumpur’s skyline. The Journal’s coffee bar serves breakfast items a la carte, while the Swimming Club has its selection of quick bites available there or via room service." - Tablet Hotels

We had the most amazing experience staying at the KL Journal. The hotel is located in the heart of Bukit Bintang, KL and is a stone's throw away from all major attractions in the city. Right from the early check in to the final check out, we were treated like royalty. The staff was extremely cooperative and helpful. Being vegetarians, we were skeptical about the food. However, the chef prepared a special (and different) veg menu for us every single day. It was one of the most fantastic hotel stays in recent memory. A special shout out for Farid and Afif at the front desk, Anamul in F&B (who prepared the most amazing masala tea every day) and last, but not the least, Chef Amin, who made our hotel stay delightfully tasty. He even taught me how to make yummy veg rojak peasmbur. Thank you all and God bless you.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Journal Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, and it was truly an amazing experience. From check-in until the end of my stay, the service was excellent – warm, professional, and attentive. I would like to especially highlight Farid, Rohaizad and another staff working at night yesterday to end his shift waiting for Farid to come over, sorry i forgot his name, yeah for their outstanding hospitality, friendliness, and genuine care throughout. What impressed me most was the thoughtful complimentary celebration arrangement. The room décor was beautifully done, creative, and made the whole experience extra special. Thank you so much to the entire team for going above and beyond to make our stay memorable. On top of that, the hotel’s strategic location is definitely a highlight. With plenty of eateries just a short walk away, and shopping malls like Pavilion and others within walking distance, everything you need is easily accessible. The price point is also reasonable for such convenience and quality. If I may suggest one small improvement, it would be great if the rooms change to smart TVs, as this would make it much easier to entertain children during downtime in the room. Overall, I had a wonderful experience here and would highly recommend The Journal Hotel to anyone looking for comfort, great service, and a prime location in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

I found this hotel to be excellent value, although Kuala Lumpur is cheap by western standards. There are coffee/tea making facilities, free mini-bar with a few complimentary drinks, which are replenished daily, and a complimentary afternoon tea service with snacks/sandwiches/drinks. There's a restaurant, which I didn't try, but no bar.||The room itself had good individual air conditioning, a superking bed, was bright and spacious with a full length, room width window, with a good view over the city, was clean and serviced daily, and appeared well maintained. There's a little road noise, but given the Kuala Lumpens love of car horns and fireworks, this wasn't too much bother.||Location is good. Restaurants and shops are in the immediate vicinity, with a ton of bars around 400m away. The Malay equivalent of Times Square or Piccadilly Circus is a two minute walk, KL Tower, Petronas Towers and Petaling and Central markets are within a walking distance of 20-30mins each, but it's so cheap to get a Grab if it's a bit far away or too warm for you.||Billed as a 4* hotel, it isn't by UK standards, but that doesn't mean it isn't an easily recommended clean, modern hotel with welcoming friendly staff.||TIP: The restaurant directly opposite the lobby will charge you 40-50 ringgits for two decent sized meals with drinks - that's around £8-£9!!

We had the ultimate joy and pleasure of staying at the Journal Hotel over the weekend! My friends and I flew over to KL for the weekend for a birthday celebration of one of our friends and the hotel concierge stopped at nothing short of making it a wonderful experience, not just for our friend celebrating her birthday, but also her accompanying friends including us. Off the get go, the location is amazing. Located at the heart of a bustling district, there's no shortage of food or places to explore. It is also relatively near big malls like Platinum and other multi-story shops - Don Don Donki, H&M etc. There is a minimart right outside the hotel and Watsons pharmacy further down the street which provided convenience in purchasing water and other miscellaneous items required. Though I would say the hotel already provides soap, and disposable amenities such as vanity kits, toothbrush, sanitary bags etc., which can be personally retrieved accordingly at the lobby. The overall atmosphere and outlook of the hotel is also great and clean. There's no second guessing the cleanliness and service. Linen, corridors, room hallways, dining areas were clean and comfortable. There's also the wonderful and free tea time service with a decent selection of food with red and white wine. It was such a treat! The highlight of the stay for us was definitely the service provided by the concierge team. All of them were polite, professional and great. We would especially like to highlight the wonderful and helpful service of Farid and Syamil. As mentioned earlier, we were celebrating our friend's birthday during this stay. Upon informing Farid, he suggested having the room decorated as a surprise for my friend. He also took it upon himself to prepare a simple yet elegant bouquet of flowers for my friend when we were celebrating with the cake cutting at tea time. This made all of our day as it made our stay extra special! Syamil was also wonderful in acceding to assist me with my little requests and instructions about the delivery of the cake. He ensured that it was kept a secret upon delivery, offered to prepare it for the celebration and was a great help in ensuring that the surprise celebration was a success! The security guards were also very kind to help us and friendly in their service :) We were also provided with a room with a relatively nice view, as requested, and were granted late check out of 2pm - which was such a treat as our flight was only later at night at 9.30pm. We cannot recommend the hotel enough, considering the great prices for the great service and overall stay. We will be sure to stay here again upon our next trip to KL! Thank you once again to the wonderful team at Journal Hotel.

This is the hotel you should stay in if you are visiting KL. The staff was clear, accommodating, polite, and prompt. They took our bags up to our rooms with us and checked us in quickly once we arrived. The room was nice. Maybe the only suggestions would have been a streaming enabled smart tv and that the shower started to run out of hot water during the second shower. It was still very warm, just not hot, at least after about 15 minutes of use. Location was perfect. Near areas you would want to walk in and around, especially for eating and shopping. The restaurant in the lobby was good and had a fairly priced malay lunch that was delicious. We took a look at the infinity pool, but didn't use it. Looked nice though. The bar on the pool deck has pizza and drinks. I will be coming back.

Really convenient spot that is a short walk to some great nightlife and a longer walk to so many other attractions. Most staff were lovely (shout out to the smiling doorman who no matter how many other jobs he was juggling would always try to get to the door before we did) and the room was comfortable. The breakfast buffet had a good range of food options and it’s also worth popping up to the rooftop bar area to enjoy a beautiful breeze on a hot afternoon. The service of the bar staff is my one complaint - the young guy at the bar seemed pained to stop watching videos on his phone whenever he was approached, so much so that at one point we stood and waited right in front of the bar for a bit before he finally acknowledged us and took an order but never without actually looking up from the videos. The rest of the team had set the bar high and he really let them down.

Quiet boutique hotel is very centrally located in Bukit Bintang, with easy access to food, shopping malls, sites and MRT. Staff and friendly and helpful. Rooms could be better maintained - nothing major - just furniture and fixtures showing use/age. Breakfast spread needs to be topped up faster as the rush from the crowd clears everything out fast and the wait for the cappuccino machine can be long. However, the hotel is surrounded by loads of local breakfast options , so I recommend you head out for some cheap roti canai or congee instead.

First time staying at The Kuala Lumpur Journal Hotel. This charming 12-storey property features a small rooftop terrace with a sundeck and pool. Staff at check-in as well as in the cafeteria during teatime and breakfast were polite and efficient. The rooms are spacious, clean, and well maintained. Appreciate the teatime and wine tasting offered for the hotel guest. We experienced a minor issue with the room AC, but Mr. Farid at the front desk resolved it promptly and professionally. Overall, an excellent stay — convenient location, great value for money, and definitely a place I would return to.

Yelp
Centrally located in Bukit Butang, the main shopping and entertainment district in KL, the Journey Hotel is a good hotel for a short stay in the city. The hotel is located within a 5 minute walk of the mall Lot 10 and the famous night market street Jalan Alor. The hotel is pretty no frills. The accommodations are simple and dorm-like. It reminded me of the Ibis hotel brand. The rooms come stocked with basic toiletries and they provide complimentary water and soft drinks which are re-stocked daily. I found the rooms to be clean but the bathroom is a little bit small. The bathroom has a shower only (no bath). The walls are pretty thin so we could hear people conversing or coughing sometimes from the other rooms. Fortunately we weren't in the room long enough to mind. The hotel also has an outdoor pool and bar, business center and fitness center. I didn't have a chance to visit the fitness center but the pool is an infinity style pool and it closes at 10 pm. In general, the staff was pretty pleasant to us. They permitted a later check out and stored our luggage for us while we went on a walking tour our final day, which was kind. They were not the most accommodating when we brought outside food into the hotel though. We had asked if we could sit outside and eat it and we were not permitted to eat at the outdoor bar or at one of the tables in the lobby, so we had to take it back to our room, which made the room a little smelly. Finally, we also had some issues with our room key. We had to reprogram the cards two times. Even after rephrasing them, we had to scan them multiple times for them to work. Overall, it was a fine budget stay and I wouldn't mind coming back if I'm ever in KL.

Yelp
I booked this hotel mainly because it was in the city center and it's proximity to KLCC and other spots that I wanted to visit in KL. When I first arrived, I was a bit skeptical of the hotel mainly because one side of the street where this is located looked pretty dirty. However, the hotel itself was very nice. It's a boutique hotel, meaning the decor was fancy and artistic. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. They provided us helpful tips and directions to get to the local spots that we had in our mind and also provided some local recommendations. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We also had a great view of half the KL tower which was cool. They also provided complimentary non-alcoholic welcome drink on the rooftop bar by their swimming pool which was cool. The room had good & modern amenities. The refrigerator had a few complimentary beverages as well. And lastly, they also offer complimentary breakfast in the morning which was awesome. They had a large selection of Malay, Chinese and continental breakfast options on the buffet. In addition, you can also order one of their breakfast items from their menu as well such as omelettes, waffles etc. And of course, lots of wonderful coffee to go with it. Overall, I loved this hotel will definitely recommend staying here.

Yelp
This hotel nailed it in the local neighborhood vibes and story. How do I mean? Upon being greeted in the lobby, guess receive a mini journal folder filled with a postcard, illustrated map created by the hotel with tons of recommendations and history notes, small notepad and pencil. You'll also notice the artwork over your bed is a blown up photograph of a neighboring spot in the city. (Side note: our room also featured a great view of the Petronas Towers). Upon check-in, you'll also receive a complimentary welcome drink for the rooftop bar known as The Swimming Club. Note: this is a free non-alcoholic beverage. On the note of The Swimming Club, it is so darned cute and cool with its lush landscaping, music, pool overlooking Kuala Lumpur and menu of drinks and light eats. Note that the drinks and eats are quite pricy relative to the rest of the city. Last but certainly not least, this hotel features an impressive complimentary breakfast spread including daily local hot dishes (Chinese, Indian and Malay), cheeses, yogurts, pastries, salads, juices and coffee/espresso. For morning entertainment, you can also snag one of thieve complimentary global newspapers offered at the counter. All in all, this was a lovely hotel with a great location and vibe that we would highly recommend. We paid around $70 USD for our one night stay with breakfast.

Yelp
Booked this hotel on a whim and absolutely loved it! To be honest, Kuala Lumpur was simply a stopover on our way to Bali but we were going to make the most of it starting with a good night sleep in a nice hotel after 21 hours in the air. To our surprise KL proved to be an utterly amazing place! When our Uber pulled into the neighborhood that embraced The Journal we were shocked by the amount of activity at 2am. Think NYC, but cheaper and cleaner - the hotel itself was a direct reflection of that. The rooms were modern, sleek, full of bells and whistles and centrally located to just about anything we needed. We felt safe and the staff was constantly asking if we needed anything at all. On our last night we even grab our doners from a street vendor and put our feet up on the comfy lobby furniture while the front dest attendant looked on. As we dove into our late-night snack we were politely offered a few bottles of water, which we gladly accepted. Details people, details. This place gets it and they've certainly earned our business for our next KL stint in October '18. See you soon!

Yelp
One of the best things about hotels is the rest that you get especially when you have a long layover or transit. We checked into the KL Journal hotel during our one day layover in Kuala Lumpur. The hotel was quite central and located within walking distance to Bukit Bintang and the famous foodie heaven: Jalan Alor. You can also find Pavilion Mall and Starhill Gallery in under 10 minutes. The monorail station is also very close to the hotel if you decide to take KL Ekspres from the airport. When we arrived at the hotel, we were welcomed by a friendly receptionist and quickly given the keycard to our room. Outside of the elevator, there was a quick brochure on facilities that are available at the hotel as well as places that can be visited around the KL Journal. The keycard even has a mini map where you can see places around the hotel area. KL Journal gave a vibe of a stylish modern hotel which was evident from the time we stepped into the hotel lobby as well as from the bluetooth speaker clock that we had in our room. I had fun playing my Akdong Musician playlist from the bluetooth speaker. It worked very well as the morning alarm as well! The hotel has an outdoor pool that operates all year long and a gym that can be used by guests. The bathroom was clean and the hotel provided all guests with shampoo and liquid body soap. There was a box of other facilities such as shaver, toothpaste, toothbrush and comb that can be used freely. Our Deluxe King Room came with one extra large double bed which was more than enough for two people. The goose down pillows helped us to sleep comfortably. I also like the accessible light switch that located next to the bed. The next day we had delicious meal at the Bounty Restaurant which was connected to the KL journal. I think the cost of the room at KL Journal was quite good when compared to other hotels. Our room costed under $100 per night and it was a spacious room as well. If you're looking for a comfortable stay, easy to access and close to the heart of KL, the KL Journal will definitely fit the bill. They also offer a good rate at their hotel. Remember to compare the price from different booking sites as well as the hotel website.

Yelp
I know I paid for my 2 nights stay, but seriously thank you KL Journal for making my stay in central Kuala Lumpur "Sexy, mysterious, and breathtaking" . Im quite the hotel snob I must admit, I usually only consider 4-5 stars or boutique hotels from regular chain brands such as Westin, Ritz, Hilton, Marriott and etc when booking. However I didn't want to spend RM400 ($100 USD) and above per night that week, so I opted for a boutique hotel I have no experience with to save that extra few bucks since I got 2 nights at the KL Journal for RM 550 or RM275/night. Now of course, I thought at first this deal was too good to be true and I was skeptical of the quality, comfort and cleanliness at the KL Journal, sure the depictions on their website looks luxurious, clean and classy. Plus the amenities looks almost 5 star., complete with a gym and chic looking restaurant. I mean we all know that the burger on Mc Donald's ads don't always look like the ones we buy, so this could apply to hotels too right. Well, for the KL Journal I was wrong, this hotel was exactly how it was pictured, it was clean, it was classy, it was comfortable and it was certainly boutique. It was everything they advertise to be The Kl Journal is a Boutique hotel and not the regular star rated hotel like Hilton and etc. So it is just a hotel that happens to be more personalized, customized and unique. Definitely not part of a chain; and the feature is unique. Now of course there are a few drawbacks for this hotel, well maybe for the posh traveler who doesn't mingle with the commoner, but for everyone else you should be OK. Let me explain, the hotel is located behind Jalan Sultan Ismail, where an Arab styled bazaar is placed, and this bazaar can be a little dodgy, so don't expect a grand roadway to the hotel. But once at the main entrance of the hotel, the lobby would surprise you and bring you to a classy place. They have a valet service, bell boy service, plus their lobby area is well lit, nicely decorated and very modern. Staff was friendly and helpful. The location doesn't give you the glitzy and dreamy Petronas Twin Towers view, but who needs the view when the room is simply gorgeous. All right let me talk about the room. The room is simply lush, spacious and as beautiful as the website describes it to be, it feels like staying in someones very chic house almost. The bathroom is very spacious, and even supplies a complete amenity nicely tucked in a black drawer like box - it seems almost 5 star. The bathroom has a bidet, a shower compartment complete with a rain shower, complete with complimentary big bottles of shower and shampoo gels - a feature that is not normally available even at 5 star hotels. There is even luxurious bath robes provided. Features of the room includes: free Wi-Fi, powerful central air conditioning- cools down really nicely, a hidden safe, very luxurious king size bed all draped in luxurious white bedding. The decor of the room is simply artistic and feels very cozy in my opinion- and very neutral and modern. My favorite is that huge 10 feet painting behind the bed in grayscale and the beautiful grass green one seater at the corner. The lighting of the room can be a mix of bright or very romantic dim light. There is even a reading light on each side of the room. Plenty plug points are available through out the room for charging electronics, and they even have compatible plug points for American or European plug points - so no adapters is necessary for travelers. TV is a flat screen with a USB connector, perfect for those who needs to charge their phones and other electronics. You wont go hungry staying at this hotel, they have 2 restaurants in the hotel itself, and it's a very nice restaurant. Or lots of fast food options are available around bukit bintang (5 minutes walk). Furthermore, the famous Jalan Alor street food is just 2-3 minutes walk from the hotel. Plus in the morning there is a Chinese breakfast place with Hainanese chicken rice located next to the hotel on the left. Not to mention the arab town nearby has really good kebabs for dinner. Also Pavillon KL is only 5-6 minutes walk. Tips: don't drive here parking is limited, and be sure to have RM 100 cash during check in because they need that deposit.

Yelp
(This is a review for the hotel cafe, not the hotel proper -- heard really great things about the hotel though. Like, the rooftop pool is gorgeous, I can tell you that much.) The cafe has a vague coworking vibe to it (long desks, lots of outlets, plenty of books), coffee is decent, service is pretty alright. I don't mind the music so much but I've heard some criticism about the generic, pop, sometimes loud playlists.
