I rarely write reviews, but my experience living at The Lafayette has been frustrating enough that I feel others should know what they’re walking into.
There has been a constant deep, heavy, bass-like thudding noise coming from the unit above mine — not normal walking, but pounding, percussive impacts that travel through the floor and walls. The sound is so strong it can be felt as vibration, and it happens almost every night, often until 2 a.m.
Despite providing multiple videos and detailed logs, management insists the noise “does not meet the threshold” for a lease violation — mainly because the recordings can’t fully capture the deep impact. Of course they can’t — phones don’t record bass vibrations through concrete. Anyone who’s lived under it would know how unbearable it is.
The building’s sound insulation is extremely poor, and unfortunately, the management’s attitude makes things worse. The property manager, Jason, communicates with a kind of polished arrogance — polite on the surface, but clearly dismissive underneath. Every conversation feels like being “handled,” not helped. His confidence in doing the bare minimum is truly remarkable.
Instead of addressing the problem, I was offered “white noise machines,” “neighbor reminders,” and even “you can move to another unit” — all of which solve nothing except shifting responsibility away from management.
If you value peace, rest, or basic respect, this is not the place. The Lafayette may look modern and luxurious from the outside, but what really stands out is how loudly you’ll hear your neighbors — and how quietly management will pretend not to notice.
