"This tiny Coconut Grove classic has been making healthy salads and sandwiches for about 50 years and already outlived numerous trendy franchises. Their pitas are stuffed with so many vegetables, they tend to split open—so try not to wiggle with joy when you eat them. There are tons of vegan and vegetarian options, but we like the white chicken salad pita. They also have wonderful smoothies, fresh juices, and wheatgrass shots. Seating is sparse, but there’s a diner-style counter, a few stools by the window, and a couple of tables." - mariana trabanino, virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer
"No restaurant better embodies the tension between old Grove and new Grove. The Last Carrot inspired this guide—and sadly won’t be on it for much longer. The healthy cafe will soon get demolished to make way for some kind of mixed-use monstrosity. This vegetarian-friendly counter has been serving up overstuffed wraps and wheatgrass smoothies since 1975. Grab a spinach pie and veggie burger wrap before you can’t anymore. According to the surfer kid who makes killer pineapple smoothies, they won’t move until about November 2025—and may have found a new home. Here’s hoping that pans out." - virginia otazo
"The Last Carrot is on its last leg (at this location anyway—they’re hopefully just moving). The Grove health-spot will soon be demolished to make way for some kind of mixed-use monstrosity. So now’s your chance to fill up on spinach pies and veggie burger wraps filled with an ungodly amount of bean sprouts. This vegetarian-friendly place has been serving up wraps and smoothies since 1975—long before the Pura Vida hellscape took over Miami. We used to come here for smoothies after school still dressed in our plaid skirts, and kept coming back for grasshopper juice when those skirts were replaced with skinny jeans a decade later. It’s still a great place for a healthy meal. And we hope they find a new home." - virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino, ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo, mariana trabanino, ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo, virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo, virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo, virginia otazo, mariana trabanino, virginia otazo, mariana trabanino, mariana trabanino, virginia otazo, virginia otazo
"The Last Carrot is a little family-owned spot that’s been operating in Miami since the ’70s. They have a little restaurant in Coconut Grove with some counter seating good for solo dining and a few small tables—both inside and outdoors. They serve veggie pitas, smoothies, and small mountains of vegetables they call a salad. It’s a decent option for a post-workout meal or a quick work lunch where you and your coworker can say mean things about your boss over an avocado pita." - ryan pfeffer, carlos c olaechea
