Detroit’s Best Dive Bars | Eater Detroit

"Shot-and-beer spots are becoming scarce in Corktown, but Last Chance Saloon on Michigan Avenue offers drinkers a low-key stop in the space that used to house Casey’s Pub. The interior retains classic mellow vibes, though the shot and a beer prices have gone up. While the bar no longer offers its much-hyped $5 beer-and-a-shot deal, it features a “break-even bottle” of a rotating spirit monthly, promising affordable shots of small-batch mezcal." - Mickey Lyons

Anytime Is a Good Time to Check Out These Corktown Bars

"Shot-and-beer bars are slowly fading away from Michigan Avenue in Corktown, so when the Detroit Optimist Society opened Last Chance Saloon in fall 2022, drinkers were glad to have a low-key stop in what used to be Casey’s Pub. The space retained the mellow vibes and mercifully kept pricing simple too, with $5 specials on can beer and shots." - Serena Maria Daniels

Last Chance Bar Is Coming to Former Casey’s Pub in Corktown in Detroit | Eater Detroit

"A long-shuttered bar space at 1830 Michigan Ave is set to be reactivated by restaurateur Dave Kwiatkowski as a straightforward, retro 'shot & a beer' hangout evoking a 1970s dad-style vibe; an Instagram account tied to the operator describes that no-frills concept, and the team is targeting a November 1 opening. The address has seen several failed turnovers in recent years — a planned tequila- and mezcal-focused concept announced in 2018 never came to be, another project moved on to a different venture, and a 2016 tenant lasted less than a year — so this effort appears aimed at bringing a simpler, neighborhood bar back to life." - Serena Maria Daniels

We decided to try a new spot before dinner near by. Was pleasantly surprised on how centered and awesome this place is. Very basic and that’s what makes it great. Old school photos and just a small black & white tv playing old video tapes. No draft beers. Just a few selections and some custom drinks to choose from. The best deal is the beer & shot for $7. People were personable and I’d easily come back.

Have been here a few times. The last time was for my sisters Birthday - it was one of our last stops and they had karaoke. We had a BLAST that night! My most recent visit was a lot more chill. The drinks and service were on point both times. It is located right by downtown, which is nice because that means there is so much in the area to do. Even when its busy here though they usually get you taken care of quickly!

Great place, great drinks, great company. Vinyl playing, hot dogs rolling and frozen drinks blending. Chill and friendly. I would highly recommend.

**had to edit- they have a proper mixed cocktail menu that is delicious 🖤 Dark, intimate, local dive vibe with basic menu and cheap prices. Mostly canned beers and limited liquor selection- more of the $5beer/shot spot(says it on their tshirts) vs $25 shot with a piece of ice. Low key during the week and mostly service industry regulars mixed with the typical corporate suburbanite buses that fill the place on the weekends packing the place and honestly I'd recommend NOT coming here on friday/Saturdays unless you come at 1am when the non-locals leave. Cute patio in rear- karaoke a couple times a week and djs/ trivia nights. Super chill spot and cheap drinks with a classy feel! Cheers 🍻

Last Chance Saloon in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood is a hidden gem with serious vintage charm. Step inside and you’re transported to a laid-back, 1970s-style hangout, complete with dim lighting, retro décor, and a playlist that sets the mood just right. The bar serves up nostalgic cocktails like the Wisconsin Old Fashioned and the Blue Hawaiian, alongside a solid selection of affordable beers and whiskeys. With friendly bartenders, a cozy atmosphere, and a welcoming crowd of locals and newcomers alike, it’s the kind of place that makes you want to stay for one more round.

Both me and my fiance are out of town and after eating we just took a walk downtown and found the Last Chance Saloon. The bartender Jase was very nice and knowledgeable about any kind of drink you would like. I couldn't drink because I had to drive back home that evening but he still said "well to show our appreciation of you being responsible let me make you some mocktails" and I thought that was really sweet because unless you know them personally bartenders don't do that. My fiance loved this Wisconsin Old Fashioned he tried he said it was the best one he's had. We both loved the "at home feel" of this bar if you're ever in the area be sure to swing by And Jase deserves a raise (I'm so sorry if I'm misspelling your name)
