Korean BBQ, Peruvian Cuisine, and Hawaiian Fare Hit Liberty Public Market - Eater San Diego

"In its place is Latin Chef; a Peruvian eatery that was recently forced to shutter after 13 years in Pacific Beach. Its new market incarnation features a menu from Tony Kanashiro, a chef of Japanese heritage who was born and raised in Peru, that includes classics like lomo saltado and ceviche de pescado." - Candice Woo

Unfortunately today's lunch wasn't up to par. The steak was bland/overcooked with too much hard fat and my fried plantains were still raw inside. A total rip off for $23, I wish they would have returned my money ☹️. I had been there in the past with pleasant experiences though.

Google
Authentic Peruvian food. I was little disappointed because I wanted try the fried sweet plantains and JALEA, both were unavailable and with limited options I had to choose seafood saltado, which was good. I will definitely visit again to try what I missed. The food was ready in 15 mins. There are few tables right next to the food counter and there are plenty around the marketplace.

Tried the Tallarin Saltado Seafood and the dish was good. The seafood was fresh with lots of shrimp, octopus, calamari, and mussels/clams.

Medium quality and over priced. I was excited to try this place and the people are nice, but the food is overpriced and the quality is mediocre. I got take out, and I told him that I didn’t want fried rice. I thought I had picked a chicken dish with white rice. When I got home it was the fried rice. Which was way over priced for $18. I got my husband, their popular Loma steak dish, and he didn’t even want to eat it. The french fries for mushy, which I don’t even know why you put french fries in this dish to begin with. There’s a lot of great places at liberty station in Market. don’t go to this restaurant.

I usually go around the US trying new foods to surprise my taste. Today I came across this Peruvian restaurant, first the girl that took my order was a bit rude in my opinion plus not really helping me with the menu. I have to say food was out fast but was not even worth it, food warm but tasted like it has just been microwaved. I got a lomo saltado, got Walmart fries, hard chewy meat, and hard rice on top of that it was missing salt. Also got anticuchos which I think were okay. I have had great Peruvian food, this is not one of them. Chicha morada seemed to not even have sugar. Very disappointed wasted 70 bucks

Google
Came to Liberty Station recently to find some food for me and my wife. We decided to try The Latin Chef. I decided on the Tallarin Saltado de Res and my wife had the Tallarin Saltado de pollo. We never had Peruvian food before and I can say this was a good impression. The food was very tasty and was enjoyed deeply by both of us. We will be back when in the area. Highly Recommended.

Google
Great little Peruvian place to eat. Order the bistek a lo pobre. The meal came with a fried egg, rice, fries and a steak. The best part was the spicy green sauce that came with the meal. Mixed everything together and it was good. The service was quick.

Google
The food was delicious I left so full, I got the ceviche de pescado, papa la huancaina & anticuchos. Definitely recommend! And the staff is very friendly!!!

Yelp
Never had Peruvian food before and this was a good introduction! I got the Arroz Chaufa de Pollo and it was pretty good! Cooked well and taste pretty good. I randomly chose it and it was pretty much just like fried rice. Service is great!!

Yelp
Imma start this by saying, we havent tried their whole menu, when we come to the liberty market place everyone scatters and we try different little restaurants. So I can only speak on their ceviche! If you havent tried peruvian ceviche, hmmmm its to die for! its so different than mexican ceviche, whilst still kind of similar with the tanginess, and the freshness there are so many different and unique ingredients that go into it I've had peruvian ceviche from 2 other places, and I can honestly say that this is my favorite so far! It comes in a nice little plastic re-usable container (Yay for sustainability and recycling), and it comes LOADED! you get every penny's worth in food! The lady at the check out was so sweet, your food comes out pretty fast too! so that's a plus if you're in a pinch

Yelp
One of my favorite Peruvian dishes is picante de marisco, which is kind of hard to find in West coast - I moved from Miami where pretty much every Peruvian restaurant had it. So I had to try theirs and I wasn't disappointed! I haven't really found a great Peruvian restaurant in West coast but this one is definitely top 3! Their ceviche was good as well. I would say their service was okay. It is located in a food hall type of setting so there isn't much interaction with the server/cashier but they were nothing to be impressed about.

Yelp
A decent meal, maybe a bit more expensive than it should be for mostly being carbs. The flavor is packed and the beef is well cooked - mostly tender - I just wish there was more! It tastes good, but the amount of rice and fries is overpowering and too filling. Bring out the favor flavors of steak and veggies, crispier fries, and this spot would be golden. Service was good, can't ask for much more out of ordering at the counter. I like the liberty station public market ambiance. This place is in its own corner though!

Yelp
Food is tasty and authentic! It is tucked away in a corner of the Liberty Station Public Market. The service is kind and flexible. Ambiance is okay, just like the rest of Liberty Station - lots of energy. Food is quite pricey, but you'll still get some good authentic flavors.

Yelp
Hubs loves Tallarin de Carne, and couldn't pass up trying the dish here. It was quite tasty. The noodles had a good texture. The beef was tender, and the dish was flavorful overall. Good portion for us to share since we were trying other things, too.

Yelp
Some of the best tasting ceviche I had in San Diego. The shrimp and fish combo were delightful. Papa rellena, Aji De Gallinam, Parihuela seafood soup, and Alfajores perunos all amazing and delicious! Long lines to order, food comes out in a timely manner though. Can't wait to come back for more!
google avatar

Aliyah C.

Yelp
Got the lomo saltado and yuca. Really huge portions and it was delicious. I wish they mixed the soy sauce with the rice and not on the bottom since you have to mix it yourself. The yuca fries were good but then could have been crispier.delicious and would come back.

Yelp
Love this place! It is my absolutely favorite here in San Diego for Peruvian Ceviche. And trust me I have been searching other restaurants find it! Nothing like having ceviche when you are looking to eat something light and fresh, and if you are hungover. I have tried other items such as Lomo Saltado and fried rice which are very tasty. Staff is very pleasant and the food is great!

Yelp
Back in the day, The Latin Chef used to be located on Garnet Ave in the heart of PB. They resurrected their business in a shared corner suite at the Liberty Public Market in Point Loma. Meze Greek Fusion was the prior business at this spot. You order at the service counter where there were about four seats while a small table across the room could hold six customers. The menu was now focused solely on Peruvian cuisine with no more Brazilian fare. The front page listed the appetizers, soups, and seafood items while the back contained the meat entrees, vegetarian dishes, beverages and desserts. Because I came right before they were about to close for the day, I ordered a couple of items to-go and ate them in a public concourse area. I chose the Leche de Tigre for a starter which contained fresh fish and shrimp marinated in lime juice with some white corn kernels and corn nuts. For the price, I had expected more than two medium pieces of shrimp and minced whitefish in the mixture. It was a disappointment as I should have ordered one of the ceviches instead. For an entree, I selected the Picante de Mariscos which consisted of shrimp, calamari, and octopus in a creamy tomato sauce with white rice and slices of boiled potatoes. This dish was much better and very hearty like a seafood paella. With the closing of nearby Pisco, at least The Latin Chef provides a Peruvian dining option in this neighborhood.

Yelp
Food was tasty- very expensive - a lot rice and barely one piece of steak- the service fine it's a food hall -

Yelp
The specials have been my favorites here, however I have yet to try all other dishes, I've visited just a few times and every time the specials are different and I would order. I must say that each special was pretty amazing! Authentic and delicious!! They are generous with their plantains, I would always place an order with my entree and it keeps me snacking throughout my workday. Their restaurant is located inside the Liberty Station Public Market amongst many other vendors. While I've tried some of the vendor entrees The Latin Chef has been my favorite! Their entrees are large and worth the price we pay. They have a small dining area in front of their counter and counter seating also, in addition to the Liberty Station outdoor and indoor common area seating. Highly recommend you try and find out for yourself if you like authentic Latin food!

Yelp
This is a Peruvian place. I've had Peruvian food before, but spotted something I hadn't tried. Aji gallina. So I decided to order it. It was very different; yellow sauce. The flavor didn't knock my socks off, but it was not bad. More of a disappointment was their Inca kola. It has artificial flavor and hfcs. The place where I live has an actual kola soda made flavored with the kola nut, and real sugar. Music incongruous. Not Peruvian, or even Latin. It was more pop. The World Cup in Spanish was appropriate, though I think they should have shut off the music. Having both music and the World Cup was a bit loud, and confusing. I would go with 3.5 stars if I could.

Yelp
Wanted to have a picnic, so we opted to go to Liberty Station since there are different food options to choose from. We decided on this place. Got the pescado a lo macho, arroz chaufa seafood, and beef heart kabobs! Everything was tasty! Since we got three different items, we got full. So, now we have leftovers! Yay!

Yelp
This is a small place in Liberty Station that is excellent! Besides that Liberty Station is a fun place to hang out. My husband is from Peru and he graves his native food. We will travel for good Peruvian food. This is the best Peruvian food period! Besides being yummy the portions are generous! The Jalea can feed minimum four people! Seriously eat family style so all can share in variety of orders. Now to top it off they just opened another Latin Chef in Oceanside! Closer to our home. What?! Yes!! God let them succeed! Bless the work of their hands friendly family owned business. Oh yea!! Hello Oceanside Latin Chef! Let's go! Lomo Saltado, Tallarin, ceviche, mamas coming for you!

Yelp
This was my first time ever trying Peruvian food. I'm can't say that I was particularly impressed. My friend and I ordered the TALLARINES VERDES CON BISTEK to share so we could try other food at the Liberty Station Market. For $21.84, we got a decent sized portion size of top sirloin steak tossed with noodles in a Peruvian style pesto sauce made of basil. The flavor was very bland. What we didn't realize was the tiny cup of green sauce was where all the flavor was. We thought it was just extra pesto sauce. We didn't figure this out until the very end when we were almost done. It would've been nice if the dish came with flavor and didn't need the sauce on the side to give it the much needed flavor. The pasta and meat were flavorless without the sauce. Even then, the tiny portion of the sauce wasn't enough for the size of the dish. I doubt that I'd visit this food vendor again...

Yelp
The best Lomo Saltado in San Diego! Feels like a home cooked meal! Plenty of seating indoors or outdoors. After your meal, enjoy the beautiful park and airport. Also its inside liberty station, so plenty of desserts or other foods to try!

Yelp
No complaints! Good food, good vides, and the Chicha was astounding ;D The ceviche fish was a bit over cooked (in the lime) so it was more tender than i'd like. Friendly staff though and a good vibe at liberty station as always

Jose M.

Yelp
Dry, don't care, kind of service. Had the Lomo salteado, which is a, lets get rid of them, ammont French cut fries, cold and ugly, with a few pieces of beef and wedge tomatoes and onions. With it, a large mound of cold driedout stale rice. As lf to say, we don't think we gave you enough carbs, so here is a lot more! All of this laid on a sea of dark liquid, perhaps soy sauce? The few pieces of beef were not seasoned, so after a little chewing and what I could tolerate of the rice, I was done. The lady came by to pick up the plate and asked if I was going to finish it, to which I said not a chance. Se didn't even look surprised. I mentioned the ugly fries and soupy now black rice. She picked up the plate, turned around, and left as if saying, "So long sucker!" It amazes me how places like this remain open...

Yelp
My first time trying Peruvian food. I ordered the Pesacado A Lo Macho. Came with a generous amount of calamari, shrimp, mussels, clams, and two big pieces of fried fish! This spot is all the way in back of the Liberty Station.

Yelp
What can I say? The food is delicious. The food here is a bit more expensive than other places, but if you want the best bang for your buck, get the bistek a la pobre. The beef is a decent size and comes with an egg, fries, plantains, and rice. My friends were shocked when they saw the size of my food. The lomo saltado was almost priced the same but with only strips of beef and the size fails in comparison. I could tell by the first bite of my fries that they use salt. I know that the food pairing of steak and eggs sound familiar- in an American diner, but trust me, this is way better. It's fresh and seasoned. I am hungry just thinking about it again. Service is not that great. The cashier, Marie, assumed everyone in line spoke Spanish even though no one did (not a bad thing it was kind of funny). I asked her about the meat in the bistek and if they had different cuts since I tend to like fattier ones since they have the most flavor. She stopped and looked at me condescendingly for a few seconds and said "it's whatever they have". I asked for my drink and she annoyingly pointed at their fridge. I did not appreciate the attitude. Delicious food but bad service. I am willing to overlook the service because the food is that good!

Yelp
Friendly service and amazing food! We got the seafood fried rice and the steak with rice - both tasty and I highly recommend the seafood fried rice. It's a tad pricey but worthwhile in my opinion.

Yelp
The food is above average. I've tried many peruvian restaurants in southern california and this place makes my top 5 list. Rightfully so as the cook is peruvian. We order two ceviche's and one Lomito Saltado. Everything tasted like it should. Descent portions and flavorful peruvian style spices and preparation are used. Now the negative, hardly any place to comfortably eat unless you go outside and eat in a shared patio area with other businesses and huge jets flying over from the airport close by every 5 minutes or so. Also the cashier or hostess was somewhat moody and kind of rude. I understand about the lunch rush, but there was absolutely nobody behind me in line, nor after food was ordered and I was waiting for my order. Be ready to spend some money here. Very pricey. Two orders of ceviche and a lomo saltado with one drink came out to about $75! so if you're in the area and you want some good Peruvian food, I recommend this place but make sure you bring some money as it's gonna cost you. Will I come again, probably not. I can imagine feeding a family of four would cost a small fortune here.

Yelp
Went to The Latin Chef at Liberty Station on a Friday night before a friend and I went to see a movie at The Lot next door. This was my first time trying Peruvian food and I tried their Polla Saltado and it was fire, it was a combination of sauteed chicken, red onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and French fries with rice that creates a harmonious blend of flavors and textures. The chicken is likely marinated in flavorful spices and herbs, which gives it a rich and savory taste. The sauteed red onions and tomatoes add a touch of sweetness and acidity to the dish, while the fresh cilantro gives it a burst of herbaceousness. The inclusion of French fries adds a satisfying crunch to the dish, while the rice provides a neutral base that helps to absorb the flavors of the other ingredients. The dish is likely cooked to order, which ensures that the flavors are at their peak and that the chicken is tender and juicy. Overall, the combination of high-quality ingredients, careful preparation, and attention to detail are likely what make this dish so delicious. If you're a fan of Peruvian cuisine or simply enjoy flavorful, well-prepared dishes, then the pollo saltado dish you tried is likely to be a real treat for your taste buds. It also came with this green sauce that added a nice razzle dazzle.

Yelp
The loma saltado is a must eat! This Chinese influenced Peruvian dish has French fries, tender sautéed beef, tomatoes, and onions in a soy sauce stir fry. Sooo goood!!!
google avatar

Anne S.

Yelp
Located inside one of the side rooms of the marketplace, Latin chef is pretty easy to find. They're always busy and have great service. I got their lomo saltado this past weekend and I loved the flavors but the rice was undercooked. The tomatoes were amazing as were the onions and potatoes but the beef was a little tough. The rice soaks up all the juice so it's flavorful too. I took a few bites and put it in the fridge overnight to have the next day. Warmed it up in the microwave and the rice came out a little better. Next time I'll get the beef tallarin saltado!
google avatar

Lexi R.

Yelp
Had the ceviche here and it was refreshing! Had a great kick and loved that it was classic puto Ian style with sweet potato, corn, etc. The fish tasted fresh too.

Yelp
Being from Asian descent with a great love for noodle-based dishes, I was extremely drawn to try Peruvian food - which has Asian influence in many of their dishes. Regardless of what dish you choose to get, I highly recommend getting an Inca Cola (famously known for tasting like bubble gum). ..... TALLARINE VERDES CON TOFU: 3/5 presentation-wise I was misled into what "tossed" suggested in the menu description. I was expecting smaller chunks of tofu "stir-fried" with Pesto. This unique familiarity between pesto pasta and tofu stir-fry was what made me order it in the first place. However, the tofu was in large slabs rather than bite-size chunks and placed on the side. Taste-wise it was good, but nothing amazing. I was pleasantly surprised that it was a lot more food than what I expected. I would come again, but order something else next time.

Yelp
Great Peruvian Food! This was my first time visiting this restaurant and I think it's a great option at Liberty Public Market. I ordered their Lomo Saltado and was really impressed with the dish! I especially liked the amount of sauce that was used to toss the meat, veggies, and fries. It was a generous amount of sauce which I loved combining with the white rice. I did find the prices to be a bit steep however, it's a generous portion! Ive been to Peru and I where I had authentic Lomo Saltado - this plate compares favorably to what I had in Peru.

Yelp
Been here 3 times so far. My family is Peruvian and I've had Peruvian food all over the world. This place leaves a lot to be desired. The Ceviche is a tad acidic, but good- best thing there. Every other dish is overly salty and they use enough soy sauce/broth to make everything a salty soggy mess. The Lomo Saltado was fairly under flavored and overpowered by the copious sauce. None of us wanted to finish it. Normally the potatoes (French fries) still have a bit of firmness to them, but these are basically waterlogged and the texture is kinda gross like it was left out too long. Loads of other dishes had the same problem. The breading on the fried items isn't very firm and when the lake of sauce penetrates it the whole thing becomes quite mushy and falls apart. I couldn't finish my fish, it was just unappetizing. The Arroz con Mariscos was better, but again fairly bland and overpowered by the salt. Use some aji or garlic and maybe it would be a bit more well rounded. I could keep going down the menu but it's the same general theme. The portions are large, which is nice, and the chicha is as it should be. The rest needs substantial improvements as San Diego is lacking in good Peruvian food!

Ruth F.

Yelp
Very very slow service. And they don't answer the phone so you can't order ahead! Food is good but not sure it's worth the wait!
google avatar

Raymond P.

Yelp
Lomo Saltado flavor was on point, but pricey. Lady at the stand was nice but she forgot my order. The wait for freshly cooked food was understandable. For as much as I paid, the dish could've had more beef.

Yelp
Always excited to eat Peruvian food, we were extra excited to see such a large menu. Unfortunately they were out of Inca Kola, out of Yuca, this happens. 1. The special today was ají gallina and it was pretty good, not super flavorful but I'd order it again. 2. The chicha morada was good but incredibly sugary. It's made in house so maybe we all got an overly sugary batch. I'd still try it again. 3. The fried plantains were delicious! Will for sure get that again. 4. It took a long time for my husband's dish to come so we checked and the lady forgot to put it in, but we wanted to add two more dishes to try anyways so wasn't a huge deal. He got the Chalfa and it was so so. 5. The lomo saltado was edible but not as it could have been. The meat was very tough, zero flavor, not fresh like the onions and tomatoes were. Possibly added last minute, not sure why the meat was flavorless. Fries were not good either. They were old and cold. We pushed them all to the side. Rice was ok, hard in some places. Not as bad if you mix it with the rest of the dish. Not really how lomo is to be eaten but it worked. Sadly it seems it was missing the key ingredient, the ají amarillo (Peruvian yellow pepper). Any flavor came from the tomato and onion, so I made sure each bit had one or the other so to have flavor. Since the steak was so bad, I may try pollo tallarines saltado next time. The lady did recommended the tallarines, we just weren't in the mood for noodles but I guess she was right to urge them because the lomo saltado was not a dish to repeat, avoid it actually. Avoid the fries as well. But YES to fried bananas and sure, go for the ají gallina if they offer it. Get a chicha to all try first and gauge if it's your liking to order more. Still a big menu with variety so we most likely will return to try the yuca and tallarines and get more of those fried plantains. Oh and an odd thing happened, our kids needed the restroom at the same time so we both had to go with them (boy and girl) and it took a pretty long time going to the restroom and back since it's a bit of a maze to find it, got back to the resturaunt and no one was there... our table was cleared, no customers, still I waited, even took photos of the menu for this review, still no one. We had plans and quite a drive ahead of us, so I got the kids in the car and my husband called, then checked our friends who were with us, and waited, then went back to the counter at the restaurant and the lady was there again. She was able to look up our order for us to pay, so no real issue, but it was weird for a moment lol. Around $80 for 3 plates, half an appetizer, and 3 drinks.

Yelp
The staff was really friendly and helpful figuring out the menu. I'm sorry I don't remember the name of the dish I had. It was pretty good. It was my first time having Peruvian food. The fried bananas were delicious. The Peruvian cola was pretty good, tasted like a cream soda.

Honest Review S.

Yelp
Come here for the best ceviche de pescado ever! They ask you how spicy you want it. We've had it from 0 spice to 2X spicy and it's good however you get it! The fish melts in your mouth. The service is great. Only tough part is finding seating but other than that, the food here is awesome!

Yelp
We got the lomo saltado for lunch and it was ready in 5 min. It comes with beef, fries and rice. Unfortunately there was something wrong with every component of this meal. The meat was chewy and tasted charcoal, but not in a good way, it has happened to me at home when I started burning charcoal for my bbq and I didn't wait 15 min for the fire to burn out. The fries were also stale and not crispy at all. And the rice was undercooked. $16, bummer.

Yelp
This eatery located inside the Liberty Public Market. I was researching all the restaurants in this market and wanted to try them out since they have such good reviews. Lomo Saltado is one of my favorite Peruvian dishes, so I ordered that. My friend ordered some kind of fried rice, and another just got a side of fried plantains. The food was ready pretty fast, so we didn't have to wait too long. I didn't try any of my friend's dishes, but mine was very tasty. The beef was tender and very flavorful. There were also plenty of fries as well. I wish the fries were a bit more crispy though. Overall, the food is a lot better than other places I've tried for Peruvian in SD.

David M.

Yelp
Today was my first - and last visit. I ordered my Peruvian go-to dish: lomo saltado. It was awful. Doggy, Ore ida crinkle French fries. Shoe leather beef, and very few pieces of tomato and red onion. Worst of all, they didn't prepare the lomo saltado sauce, which has some vinegar and soy sauce. The rice was just ok though.

Yelp
We don't have much Latin American food back home so we were happy to find this place. Both the beef and chicken soltado were delicious. The ceviche as well. It's a lot of food but I cleaned my plate! Service is friendly and quick! We sat on the bar stools but they do have a regular table with chairs as well. It wasn't busy when we went on Tuesday so it was easy to enjoy ourselves. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Me and my girlfriend decided to take the trip to San Diego for our 1 year anniversary, and are always down for some Peruvian. Upon skimming yelp for different restaurants I ran into the latin chef location at Liberty station, and with both review and photos, made this our dinner stop. Upon entering we thought Liberty station looked like a college. But we enjoyed the surrounding areas with plant life and a mural that made us feel like we were exactly where we needed to be. Not going to lie, upon entering we were lost trying to find the #38 on the map, and instead of entering through the side where we would've walked right upon this little destination of delicious-ness, we trailed along a maze of different dessert, food spots, and tourists. Finally we saw the little sign right before coming up on the latin chef location. Upon walking up it's a small little nook in the liberty station right on the corner, and had a large menu with different Peruvian options. An older gentleman was taking orders, and going over the menu our choice was two seafood saltados, pork chauffa, and tallarines de res. We waited for our food, and luckily ended up taking the seats at the bar. I ended up reading an award for the chef tony kanashiro and ended up inquiring with the older gentleman if he was tony, and he was! He was super welcoming and kind, and gifted us a Peruvian juice (did not get the name, but it was rich in a burgundy color) he ended up speaking with us about his background and inquired where we were from both in residence and in culture. When receiving our dishes the food was fresh and the flavors were amazing! The saltados had everything from clams to calamari, and the chauffa was flavored to perfection! Every bite Was followed with a mmmm! We asked chef tony if they had salsa criolla and he too gave us a plate at no charge. It was just an overall beautiful and delicious experience and we recommend both location, ambiance and food to anyone who would like not only quality but great customer service. We will def. Be back again!

Yelp
Fire. Fire. Fire. New spot delivers and customer service was on point. Got the Arroz Chaufa de Carne (fried rice w steak) and please excuse me while I take a moment to emphasize its critical impact. It is virtually impossible to find proper fried rice in CA. (LA might have some ok options not sure) When i say proper, the rice should be greasy and dark brown. None of this fluffy toasted looking white rice nonsense. AND it should have a certain flavor profile. Seemed to be a specialty of my midwest/east coast origins only. Until Latin Chef brought it home!! Now I will say their tiny steak bits are cooked to crispy oblivion but it works! This isnt the kind of dish you want large tender chunks in. I cant waaaait to come back and see if they'll throw some shrimp in it for me. Even if i didnt want to bother with the beef I'd order it sans meat altogether (they also have it with chicken). Although I didnt spot it on the menu, the pics tipped me off that they offer plantains both ways- sweet or salty. Sweet is my jam and they nailed it. My wife loved her yucca and the seafood saltado although she wished it was a lil saucier. Every dish had a great portion size, plenty for leftovers if you want to savor it.

Yelp
Very good tasting Peruvian dishes. Sufficient value for the prices though a bit on the expensive side due to the apparent reduced, smaller serving size. The Lucuma ice cream and chicha drink are excellent and unique, though, again very expensive.

Yelp
I wish there was a zero star review, I attended this restaurant this past weekend and to my deception it was awful, the food was salty, the drinks flavorless and overall was not a great experience. Definitely will not recommend this place to anyone. Please be alert that I already posted a review and it got deleted.

Yelp
I like walking through Liberty Public Market.  You never know what you will find.  They close shops and open new ones.  I found out about Latin Chef from Kirk of mmm-yoso!!! When I think of Peru I mostly think of Machu Picchu.  Over the last few years I've admired the cuisine and it's Chinese influence. Lomo Saltado is my favorite Peruvian dish.  Rice had a smoky aroma and flavor.  Tomatoes were fresh and juicy.  French fries were crispy and full of potato flavor.  Beef was tender and full of flavor.  Due to how amazing the beef tasted Latin Chef is now my favorite spot to get Lomo Saltado. For dessert I had Pionono Peruvian Pastry Roll.  Texture was fluffy like other pastry rolls I've had.  Pionono had a ladyfinger like flavor.  Filling was sweet dulce de leche.  Great tasting dessert. 2nd visit.   Tallarin Saltado de Carne de Res tasted like beef lo mien.  Loved the smoky flavor imparted from the wok.  Beef had a nice char from the high temperature wok.  Great combination of flavors from the beef, tomato, and green onions. Inca Cola had a unique cola flavor I've never tasted before.  Very sweet.   Passion fruit drink sweet with delicious passion fruit flavor.  A bit like a Snapple Mango Madness with more fruit juice and with passion fruit flavor instead of mango.  Great tasting drink. 3rd visit. Arroz chaufa con carne had a delicious smoky flavor from being cooked in a high temperature wok.  Beef was tender with a big beefy flavor and a hint of sweetness.  The addition of bean sprouts gave this dish a nice fresh flavor.  This dish is tied with the loco saltado as my fav dishes so far.

Yelp
I was REALLY excited to have the lomo saltado as it's one of my favorite dishes in the world. The overall flavor profile of the lomo saltado here was pretty bland and underwhelming. The steak deeply needed seasoning. I think it was also a cheaper cut since the meat was pretty chewy and not very tender. For $15+, I honestly expected more. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't get it again. Service was friendly and the food took about 15 minutes on a busy Saturday afternoon. I'll keep looking for the best lomo saltado in San Diego.

Yelp
Food is delicious! Portion size is large. Great variety of Peruvian dishes. Worth the price. Don't forget the Inca Kola!

Yelp
This place was GREAT!! I got the tallarin saltado seafood and it was so damn good! Super generous portions of seafood, all really well cooked and the noodles were surprisingly good as well. Would love to come back and try more of their food!

Yelp
Not many Latin American food spots down here in San Diego but I've been to couple. I've been going to liberty station quite a bit after Sunday services. I've been craving and wanting to try the their version of Lomo Soltado. Walked in thankfully plenty seating when we arrived. Usually this place is crazy busy. The woman that took our order didn't seem to friendly or welcoming. I didn't want that to ruin my dinner. I orders the pollo soltado and lomo soltado and inca colas my favorite soda taste like pineapple delicious. Food comes out looks picture worthy. Taste of flavors was great only downside is the potatoes were the frozen fries and tasted a bit off but the meat was great. I wish they put a lil more meat because there was so much fries underneath. Other than that it had great flavor. Would like to try more items but this place has drastically increased in price feel like Benihana prices. If the quality food was bit higher I would consider but it's not.

Yelp
I decided to try this place because it smelled so good passing by. I was really impressed by the quality of the food and portion size. I got the bistek a lo probre and it was a full steak dinner! The steak was tender and it came with egg, rice, fries and plantains. The sweet plantain really helped balance the flavors.
