The Left Bank

We loved our experience here so much! The food was so delicious. We’ve had and enjoyed cauliflower starters at other restaurants before, but we were blown away by how amazing they were here. The smashed peas with a hint of mint were incredible; even those in our group who don’t usually like peas loved them. They had plenty of vegan options, including an entire vegan menu, and were happy to accommodate for dietary restrictions. The atmosphere here was very nice, and the staff were so incredibly friendly and welcoming. Overall, we loved our experience here and we’d love to visit again!

We went to The Left Bank for a late-ish lunch before going to see the Christmas Lights switch on at the west end. The staff were all helpful, friendly and attentive but without being intrusive. They were lovely to our dog and he got fresh water and treats 😀 Our food was very tasty and we all enjoyed the soup and burgers, it was served quickly but we didn't feel rushed in any way. It's a great place for some relaxing dining with a lovely peaceful atmosphere. It may have been our first visit but it won't be our last 😁

We decided to try a new place this time but in our regular part of the city. And we were not disappointed. We requested a quiet corner and got exactly that. The service was great from the moment we entered. Very friendly staff and I'm gutted that I don't know the names except Tatiana who even made some good recommendations . We were made to feel very relaxed and everyone who served us was friendly and attentive. Food was excellent. It was the dinner menu and it didn't disappoint. Plenty of it too. The wine was stunning and so was my mango rum. Dessert had some interesting flavours which were new but very welcome. Will definitely go back for more.

Me and my partner love coming to this restaurant this is now our 4th time here and everytime it has never disappointed us the staff are lovely and the food is always delicious would highly recommend it to anyone. They also have a great range of gluten free and vegan options which was great for me 😊.

Visited on a Friday night with a party of three and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. The food was excellent—beautifully prepared and full of flavour. Service was exceptional: attentive, polite, and never rushed, even after we’d finished our meal. We appreciated that a discretionary service charge wasn’t automatically added, which is increasingly rare these days. That said, we gladly left more than 10%—it was well deserved. Highly recommended.

Fantastic place for dinner. Have been here a few times now and the food is amazing. The service is excellent too - special mention to Tuva who went above and beyond. It’s a lovely place and a very relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend and will be back soon!

The service was fine, but the waiting time was far too long. We were seated at 11:50 and placed our order by 12, but didn’t receive our dishes until 12:40. Only one staff was there serving all tables at first. The soup tastes good, however, the fish finger ciabatta tastes exactly the same as fish & chips.

A Sunday well spent brings a week of content and all that. The Left Bank is just such a lovely, wholesome place to have a weekend brunch. Food was absolutely amazing. Such a good vegan breakfast and the matcha mousse with cherry and white chocolate was honestly one of the nicest things I have ever tasted 🍒 Please pass on thanks to your absolutely lovely staff members - the two male waiters on today at 11am. They could not have been more attentive and the place was absolutely rammed. Also my puppy Lychee says thank you for the biscuits and you get extra love for having a Lychee cocktail ❤️ thank you!

I decided to go for a walk through Kelvingrove Park and then explore dining options on Gibson Street in Glasgow on Wednesday 17 July 2019. After looking at a couple of posted menus I decided to go with The Left Bank. I liked the name, it reminded me of the bank of a river and fluvial deposits that given enough time can form sandstones with beautiful internal layering. Upon arrival, a few minutes before 5 p.m., there were a few people in the restaurant area and the waiter kept busy with the glasses at the bar. I sat towards the back of the restaurant, kind of a tucked-in place, and looked over the menu. I went with the 8 ounce sirloin steak with pepper sauce, which came with Rosemary chips (fries), grilled tomatoes and mushrooms. The wait after placing the order was about 15 minutes. Everything was well cooked and seasoned and the waiter friendly in his interactions. I found the meal to be very tasty and filling. The decor was rustic and ambiance cool and laid back.

Super casual restaurant with loads of character. The small plates menu is fantastic -- fun choices and delicious flavors. The mushroom lettuce wraps were my favorite but the cauliflower is a close second. I took the Indian poke bowl as my main. Enough for two! So many clean eating options!

The Left Bank is my absolute favorite restaurant in Glasgow. I've been a few times and I can honestly say that I've never had a bad experience. From the LIFE CHANGING Veggie Chili, to the Mexican eggs to the Lebanese Breakfast, EVERYTHING on the menu is delicious and affordably priced. It's located right outside of Kelvingrove Park, which means it's extremely close to the University (UG) and a quick walk from most places in town. The servers are incredibly sweet and depending on what time you visit, there are specials. I had my last "Glaswegian meal" before moving back to the States here and honestly, I may make a trip to Glasgow soon just to eat here again. I'd recommend eating here to ANYONE that visits Glasgow.

I am so disappointed to be leaving a 2 star review but that is how i felt after last nights visit. Having looked at the menu online before booking i was so pleased to see that they offer a great selection for those on a gluten free diet. The website boasts tbat they have a seperate fryer and use gram flour. Knowing that websites can be out of date i double checked all this when phoning up to reserve a table and was relieved to be told that this was correct amd infact the person who took my reservation would be on shift on saturday night and would be happy to go through the menu with me! Superb experience so far .... So saturday night comes and this was a much anticipated night out with my other half after being ill we turned up and were told that there was no record of our booking. Now the place wasnt exactly busy so it didnt seem a problem but if it had been i would have been annoyed. We were offered water for the table and given menus to browse. I already knew what i wanted and that was the fish and chips gluten free style. Our waiter took our order and i inquired if the onion rings could be made gluten free and he said he would ask. A few mins later he returned informing me that they could not accommodate my gf requirements. I was a bit annoyed at this point and stated that i had phoned in advance and it clearly stated on their website that they cam cater for gf. The waiter although apologetic say maybe i had phoned the wrong place!! I then had to go through my phone to prove it was indeed the Left Bank i had called. We were then left with a dilemma ... find an alternative restaurant or make the most of a bad situation. The waiter told me the chilli was naturally gf so I went with that and they took a round of drinks off the bill as a way of apology. The chilli was nice dont get me wrong but it was just such a dissapointing night that i had been very much looking forward to all week. Needless to say I wont be back.

We got a nice table in the back on a mezzanine floor. The service was polite and fast. I ordered mussles in merrinere sauce and they were delicious. It took me a while to get them, as they were returned due to being cold. The staff was very apologetic and offered a free drink. You get quality food for a good price within a trendy environment. Toilets are clean. It's a nice place to enjoy an evening out eating delightful food!

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Truly, it had been the only venue that has successfully got me out of bed early on a Sunday off. And with Tim & Simon on for 3 hours then they have strong competition! Anyway, myself and 2 friends booked for a boozy brunch as one look at the breakfast and cocktail menu had us owned. I wanted all of it, but settled on the Huevos Mexicanos, scrambled eggs with peppers, mixed beans and a giant grilled tortilla wrap. My companions opted for the Eggs Mornay (Royale style, aka with salmon) and sweet French toast sans bacon. Don't judge her. We both did enough of that at the time. I did convince them to share some grilled banana bread with me as a sweet treat afters. Our meals arrived promptly and were accompanied by coffee and raspberry juice. The first thing that struck me was the amount of salmon on my friends plate. There was loads, like, generous doesn't even cover it. So much so she couldn't even finish it and I had to step in and help her out. I'm such a trooper. And my scrambled eggs....how I will ever manage to have peasant scrambled eggs again, when I was treated to such delicious, perfectly cooked ambrosia, I don't know. It was flavoursome, good sized portion, and wasn't heavy in the slightest. The French toast was posh eggy bread with maple syrup and may just be the next thing I sample when we go back. Now, I did day this was a boozy brunch, so we ordered a round of cocktails, my choice being the Earl Grey G&T, and the ladies both had the raspberry one. Unfortunately, the very friendly Canadian barman with the holster informed us that alcohol service didn't start till 12.30, much to our shared shock and horror. BUUUUT, 12.30 on the dot, without any prompting of reminders, or drinks were sat on our table. He even threw in a complimentary Bacon Old Fashioned for us to sample by way of apology. All in all, the staff were friendly, chatty and more than efficient, the food was something to write, not only home, but the entire world, about and value for money was outstanding, with the whole bill coming to £40 for 4 dishes, 3 cocktails, 2 coffees, and a raspberry soda in a tall glass! **last line must be sung to the tune of 12 Days of Christmas**

Its swell, a real treat when you need crispy tacos and a margarita. The best thing is the chips and wine sauce. So swell.

We came in here for a pre-dinner drink, and left feeling seriously underwhelmed. I'm a fan of Two Figs so expected this place to be similar and just as good. We arrived, and it seemed like they were setting up for an event/dinner that night. We asked for a couple of drinks and were shown to a seat by the window. Lovely, I thought, until I realised we'd been seated in an empty bar next to the only other people there - two women with a group of 4 kids. Now, I have nothing against women and children but when a couple goes out for a romantic drink, I'd have thought the waiter twigged to perhaps sit us somewhere else. As we were only going to be there for one drink, I felt too uncomfortable to ask to sit somewhere else. Now for the drinks, I was really pleased with my mojito, it was super tasty and really minty. When it was brought over to us, the girl was spilling it over her hands because it was overfilled which was a bit weird. The Left Bank is very similar in decor to the Two Figs, which I quite like as it's comfortable and relaxing. Lots of timber as well as a mezzanine seating area which looks pretty cool. When we went to leave, there were about 4 staff members milling around the bar, and again they all seemed distracted. I think they might have been setting up for a dinner that special night? Anyway, I felt a little like we were bothering them and that they were glad we were leaving. I didn't leave with an overwhelming urge to return, which is a shame as I did quite like my drink.

"Award winning chilli". Let me say that again..... "AWARD WINNING CHILLI". I planned on having a cooked breakfast, but left having had a bowl of chilli as I saw this the bold statement on their menu that indicated the Leftbank chilli should/would be epic and not one to be missed. I have had drinks here before but never eaten, so when we decided to have some lunch on Sunday we opted to give Leftbank a try. First impressions were good it has a modern feel to it, staff were friendly, they let dogs in, they have joker IPA on tap and we got given nice seat on the upper floor overlooking the whole bar/restaurant. As you are now aware I went for the chilli but there was loads of options that I fancied. From the Lebanese breakfast to the Vietnamese sounding panini to the great looking burger. (Yes I was staring at other diners food, don't worry I did not steal and chips) The chilli itself was great, a mixture of beef mince, pulled pork and lots of chopped Chilli's. It has a couple a taco shells and some rice in the side. For me it was one of the best Chilli's I have ever had. I thought the combination of meats worked amazingly well and I loved the level of spice. If I had one complaint it would maybe be the portion was quite small for £8.95, but still it tasted great. Leftbank is a winner for me. Loads of things I still want to try from the menu. It provided Great tasting food in a nice environment and the staff were super efficient and friendly. All in an excellent Sunday lunch.

Working lunches are surely the best way to work, right? Yesterday I done just that at The Left Bank; a deceivingly spacious gastro pub/lunch spot on Gibson Street in the West End. It had very cosy furnishings... cushions anyone? Plus it was busy enough to have a nice lunch-time atmosphere, but not too much that you ended up distracted by your surroundings. I was a little bit gutted that the brunch menu finished at 12 on weekdays because the Huevos Mexicanos was the first thing that caught my eye. However, being a bit of a nut about falafel, when I seen this was a salad option I quickly moved on. The salad came with pumpkin seeds, chickpeas, three falafel and a little bowl of tzatziki. The salad itself could have been a little more exciting and a little less dressed, but I'm not a stickler for what my salad contains as long as there are plenty of textures. The falafel were sooo yummy. Lovely crispy texture on the outside, but when you cut into them they were fluffy as a cloud. They had some fab spices and flavours throughout and a lovely little kick that balanced perfectly with the tzatziki. Falafel always run the danger of drying out, but the offerings at The Left Bank stayed far away from that pitfall. I honestly could have had a bowl of them, tzatziki on the side and ate them until I slipped into a food coma. Yum, yum, yum! They do an unusual range of soft drinks too. I had the green tea, apple and cucumber. Super refreshing and crisp, and went fab with lunch. A lovely little spot that I felt my working lunch only scratched the surface of. I'd love to go back to try their Gastro Pub menu sometime!

I've wanted to visit the Left Bank for a while, and on a weekend wander about the West End finally got the chance to give it a go. With large windows the place is bright and airy with classy decor and a few nice touches (I particularly like the butterfly lamps). Its a nice place to sit and our upstairs seat had a great lookout to the bar below. Theres a good choice of small plates/starters, larger main dishes served all day including burgers, chilli, salads and desserts. However, we were drawn to the weekend brunch menu served till 5pm with options including the banks breakfast, eggs mornay, french toast and an unusual sounding lebanese breakfast. I was enticed by the grilled banana bread with homemade hazelnut chocolate sauce (I mean how good does that sound) and Mr H opted for the breakfast ciabatta with potato scone, tomato and mushroom) with a side of ayrshire chips. Arriving pretty quickly the banana bread was lovely with some griddled sweet bananas on top. It wasn't the largest portion so might not satisfy someone looking for a hearty brunch, but I think a bigger plateful would have been a bit too sweet. The breakfast ciabatta went down well with Mr H and stealing a bit too it was pretty tasty. The chips were a bit salty for our tastes but that didn't stop most of the generous bowl from disappearing. The staff were friendly and it was really reasonably priced for great quality food. They had a great selection of veggie options so I'm looking forward to a return visit to try something from the evening menu and the desserts!

Ate here for the first time last week, and have to say that (on balance) I left the place feeling distinctly underwhelmed. The place itself is pretty, it's a really cool spot to be seen in. For a Thursday night, it was packed out. We were sitting up on the mezzanine level on a large group table. The first thing that struck me was that the service was pretty haphazard, drinks orders being taken but food arriving before drinks and inclusive side order options not being flagged up to us/taken until the main dishes arrived etc. You know the sort of thing. I got the sense that with multiple staff doing different things at our table on a busy night that there was obviously a lapse in communication somewhere. This was a shame, as the food was quite good without completely blowing me away. I had the "prize winning" chilli. As a chilli connoisseur this one was fun because it was a mix of pulled pork and beef mince. The spice had a good kick to It too, which the sour cream offset nicely. The rice was basic boiled basmati, I might have liked lime rice or something a with a bit of a twist here if I'm honest. Overall, this would be a safe bet for the start of a big night out if you are looking to mix drinks and chat in very nice surroundings but aren't expecting or wanting anything too fancy on the food or service front.

I came here for a very pleasant brunch after a morning in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum and the Kelvingrove Park. I ordered the Spinach Eggs Mornay and was pleasantly surprised to see them prepared in a fashion to Eggs Florentine. The eggs were served poached, seated on a layer of baby spinach and english muffins covered in a light yellow (mornay) sauce. The muffins were not toasted and only had grill marks; however, the rest of the dish was excellent. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered an extra side of toast to use for dipping. The service was also very accommodating and allowed me to have a banana at no extra charge as it was not on the menu. The staff was also attentive and quickly offered more water when I had finished my glass. The atmosphere was nice and quiet at brunch; I'd also like to mention that the seating was very comfortable and that most table seemed to have a pillow.

High fives all around for the Left Bank today. We popped in for coffee but I was seduced by the promise of a falafel ciabatta from the lunch menu (£5.50) and a glass of homemade hibiscus spritz to wash it down (£2 or just £1.50 with a lunch menu main). I can't get enough falafel! I changed my mind at the eleventh hour when I spotted a chickpea & sweet potato burger with fries on the all-day menu for a few pounds more. No regrets. What arrived was akin to a tasty fat falafel disguised as a veggie burger. It arrived with a crisp little slaw on the side, some hot chipotle mayo and decent homemade skinny fries. Much yum. Service was friendly and efficient and they were more than happy to bring a jug of water to the table, much needed as it turned out. Extra liquid was required to put out the chipotle fire in my belly! The mezzanine floor overlooking the bar is definitely my favourite spot in the whole restaurant. I bagged the table right at the balcony for top people watching rights and there was never a dull moment. Him indoors declared the beer battered haddock the best he'd had for a very long time. Nice one Left Bank.

I really enjoy coming here. I've been here several times for drinks - they have a wide selection of coffees, teas, sparkling soda, cocktails, beer, cider. If you like cider I recommend the Rosie's Cloudy Cider. Strong and delicious. This is the first time I've eaten here and it's just as yummy as it looks. I ordered the falafel salad and think the falafel balls are great. Each ball has whole chickpeas inside and lots of flavor! Also enjoyed the beats and pumpkin seeds for an extra crunch. They have wifi here so it's a fun place to study/work, but also a great place to meet up with friends. And it's dog friendly!

I am thankful and very fortunate to be able to say that the other constant in life (mine particularly) is food. Because of that, I make it my mission to seek out the delectable gastronomic delights of life. On a sunny afternoon in Glasgow (no sarcasm this time!), I managed to escape the cold confines of b-school. The boyfriend didn't have to be in the studio until later that evening, so I dragged his lazy bum out of bed to go out, enjoy the sunshine and get our grub on. With his suggestion, we skedaddled to Left Bank because we were huuungry! To be honest, the exterior of Left Bank doesn't seem like much, but upon entering the place is really chic. Whoever the interior designer is, I'd like to speak to him/her and bounce some ideas. It's very sleek and modern, but with that cosy, casual and relaxed feel. The large concrete bar greets you at the door, and you observe the large space segmented into various dining areas on four different levels. Even though I kind of think butterflies are a bit cheesy for restaurant décor, the lamps are pretty cool because when you walk past them the butterflies look like they're fluttering... whoa! The restaurant was pretty quiet... it was mid-week and just after the lunch rush. We were kindly seated towards the back of the restaurant. Service was friendly and helpful. I ordered the New York meatballs on ciabatta, and the boyfriend had the Left Bank burger. Our meals came out pretty fast, and were fresh and quite tasty. In our usual manner, we splitsies so I could try the burger and he could try the sandwich, also because he blurted out he wanted the meatballs when I was thinking the same exact thing in my head. My only reservation was that the meatballs were a bit overcooked, but everything else was lovely. Bottom line: LOVE the design, good food, and good service. I'll definitely be back for more... did someone say brunch?! Nom.

Really cannot fault it. Decor, service, food and beer. All very nice. Went for a nice burger with some pulled pork (my partner went for chilli as an extra) coming in a small ramekin type vessel so that you can add as much or as little as you want. A nice spicy sauce to dip made of Mayo and spicy sauce like an aioli for batatas Bravas. Super nice staff making you feel welcome and helping when they can. Can't beat a good mix of beer, spice and lovely succulent meats. There are berg gore options too with a sweet potato style burger. Another thing about the staff kanthan they know what they serve, Very helpful! Will come back. X

Wonderful food, wonderful venue, wonderful staff = 5 star review! I love The Left Bank because it's everything I could want in a restaurant/bar. It's cosy, it's contemporary, it's big and spacious and it has great staff and great food. You don't realize how many different seating areas there are, it's got so much space! I like the fact it has tables and chairs for eating food a la restaurants, but big comfy couch areas for people in drinking. It's got something for everyone! Maria and I went in today as I met her after work and decided here was as good a place as any to go for late lunch/early dinner. Instead of getting main courses and starters, we decided to get 4 starters and make a big tapas/sharing platter; what a wonderful idea this was! 2 portions of herby meatballs in a gorgeous sauce with garlic bread, mussels meuniere with chips and sticky pork ribs in a soy/chili sauce, and a portion of goose fat roasties, what a meal this was! Everything was excellent and our waiter was so helpful and friendly and the waitress at the bar we paid the bill to at the end was chatty and friendly. Love it in here and you should too! Go! I'll probably be in there munching some food!

I love fish. I mean, LOVE. The amount of fish puns I have stored up for a rainy day would have you reeling. Seriously, there's a deep sea of options that I could roll out and school you with at any time or plaice. So here I am sitting at one of Glasgow's acclaimed fish restaurants, and I ordered... chicken. Chicken! It was so beautiful that I didn't even take a stab of my tablemate's swordfish or a nibble of the communal calamari. I just tucked into my previously feathered friend like chicken was going out of style. It was clucking fantastic. I'm sole'd.

Cast your eyes over me dear yelper as I hang my head in shame! Shame I says! Shame for the acknowledgment that prior to a fortnight ago, I had never set foot in this place... I feel your hurtful stares.... So yeah, with a Sunday morning/Saturday night babysitter in situ, the wiffelage and I ventured forth for a cooked breakfast that offered no dishes. Here we found it. Ok, so we arrived at prime brunch time to be met with a 15 min wait for a table. This was expected and not really a big fuss. Coffees were ordered and a wee seat at the front window was bagged for the wait. With breakfast ordered, it was time to take in the decor and enjoy the vibe of the place. It really is quite the wee maze in here and I'm really quite a fan of the hidden room/multiple level layout. Grub wise, it's spot on. Produce is of a high standard, with homemade baked beans and the bacon being the real standouts. Service is where a star was lost, but given that the till decided at that moment that it would decide to bite the dust, we can forgive. Otherwise, service was swift, attentive but not to overpowering...'yes it's fine! Can I eat it please?' In all, I'm a fan and really looking forward to heading back for a shot at the mains and a venture into the wee hidden parts for a nosey.

I'll admit, when going for a payday breakfast, the Left Bank wasn't my first choice. I prefer a bit of a fresher, more unusual breakfast choice but as I've stated before I have a really fussy son & boyfriend so the Left Bank was a compromise for us all. The decor in Left Bank is lovely and the wee upstairs balcony is really cute. We sat at one of the big side tables with scatter cushions which made it really comfy. We both went for the Full Breakfast. Everything on the plate had been chargrilled and had a distinctive charred flavour that I really enjoyed, although Martyn felt it was verging on burnt. I was excited to try the Homemade Baked Beans. To be honest they were w bit of a let down and tasted just like white beans in passata. However the breakfast was enjoyable and we did finish the lot. My little one asked for a link sausage ciabatta. When it came they'd actually given us a square sausage but we didn't ask to swap as we were pushed for time. The sausage was nice on a big ciabatta and my little one only managed half. Overall it was a nice breakfast but I feel it was a bit pricy. £25 for breakfast is quite steep (for a poor student!!!) especially when it's not the best I've had. I'd like to go back and try their other food if I get a chance but I won't be in any rush.

When people hear about Britain they think of a lot of things: bad weather, beautiful (yet incomprehensible) accents or football but great food isnt what they are really famous for. After half a week in Glasgow I can say that the food is a lot better than its reputation, at least if you are willing to spend some money. The Left Bank was definitely the culinaric highlight of the week. The place itself looked like an average British bar but the food was amazing. We shared some starters, from prawns over mushrooms to some very nicely marinated ribs, all of it was amazing. I had chicken as a main dish which was excellent as well, however, I heard that the burgers are supposed to be really yummy Im a little sad I missed out on them. Only the dessert, peach with chocolate cream and ginger tasted a little odd but I guess its not their fault if I dont like ginger. The waiters were all very nice as well and we had a nice chat with one of them while waiting for our cab. Everybody in this city seems to be so friendly and just waiting for you to approach them and start a conversation. So if you are ever in Glasgow and looking for a great dinner place, this is where you should go!

Since my first trip to the West End I have had my eye on The Left Bank located in Gibson Street. Something about it looks so cool but friendly.....Stylish but inviting....West End Hipster but inclusive - basically it's completely my style. Today finally after 8 months I got round to trying it out, and I am furious with myself that it has taken me so long because it was delicious. IMG_0604 Like I said everything about The Left Bank screams 'this is when the cool kids hang out' but not to the exclusion of families, west end loves and ladies meeting for lunch...this place feels like a really hub of our little community. Let me set the scene for you - there is huge windows looking out on to Gibson Street which lets in so much light ( I was lucky enough to be sat at a window table and loved it), there is lots of wood - on the walls, the floor and the tables and chairs. The tables are spaces quite far apart so you don't feel like you are listening into other people's chat! I loved it, the over all feeling was one of chilled out, spacey, Sunday morning haven. The staff were fun, friendly and welcoming - we did wait quite a while for them to clear away the dessert plates but I didn't mind because they looked run off their feet. Every member of staff had a smile for us which I always like. Since it is the day of brunch I made my way straight to the brunch section of the impressive menu, it is extensive and interesting - including such delights as Grilled Banana Bread with homemade hazelnut spread (hello! - whoever thought of this deserves a pay rise!) Breakfast Ciabattas, Huevos Mexicanos - a mexican scrambled egg packed with peppers and chilli. yum..yum.....YUM! I was not to be tempted by any of these delights tho, instead I picked the Lebanese Breakfast. The Lebanese Breakfast was sensational, it consisted of fried halloumi, shakshuka (spicy chickpeas ragout & baked egg) batata harra (potatoes sautéed with garlic, coriander and chilli) and warm toasted pitta. This dish sounds like it might be quite hot but it wasn't at all it just had a really lovely warmth to it. The halloumi was excellent and the potatoes were the perfect accompaniment. I wasn't sure what to expect from the shakshuka but it was a lovely little pot of morish ragout. I will definitely order this dish again. I decided to break my sugar-free diet with a little treat and boy what a treat it was. I ordered the warm pecan and raspberry brownie served with berry coulis and mackies vanilla ice cream. It was utterly amazing - it was warm and fudgey and you could really taste the raspberry coming though in the brownie. It is incredibly rich so beware if you like a lighter dessert this is not the choice for you. Love The Left Bank and will be going back again soon for both brunch and to try their evening menu.

Great service and atmosphere, we were seated upper level which felt very cosy but not closed in. Waiting staff were keen to engage and knew the menu well so were able to provide suggestions for different tastes. An eclectic menu on offer with varied dishes to suit different preferences and with four people getting drinks, starters and substantial main courses for under £80 was great value for money. Would recommend if looking for an intimate venue with inviting staff who were attentive but not intrusive.

This place was a sorry disappointment. Saturday evening we popped in for a drink before heading off for something to eat. Its got a nice atmosphere, comfy settees, all in all a nice place to sit and relax for a chilled drinking experience. It was so comfy however that on looking out at the lashing rain we decided not to move on but take a table for dinner.... Not one of our better moves. The service was unbelievably slow!!! Once our order was taken it took a whole hour before the starters arrived. By this time we were starving and would happily have proceeded to eat the table had they actually brought us cutlery. This we had to hunt down. The main course was just as slow and painful. Despite the slow and sloppy service the food here is really nice. The sticky ribs are to die for and the pork loin was well tasty. This is definitely somewhere I'd go back to for drinks but as far as dining goes I think we'll do the right thing and move on somewhere else next time. Such a shame and a waste of a good menu.

Stopped in for a bite to eat on a weekday afternoon. The decor is smart, a mixture of seating styles in a large space over two levels. We sat in the upstairs area overlooking the main dining area. The music was low enough to be a pleasant background noise but allowing for conversation. We chose from a menu broken down into a mix of dishes available at various points in the day. There was also a very affordable looking set menu which appears to be available up to 7 pm. My companion and I both plumped for the Fish fillet with Goan Curry. The dish arrived after 5 minutes, a slice of unidentified fish, I think whiting, atop a well spiced fragrant curry, loaded with mussel, squid and prawns. It was a accompanied by a nutty rice. A very warming dish on a cold day, with aenough bite to leave your mouth singing. To follow we plumped for the Eton Mess with Scottis berries. It was rich, loaded with intense fruits and merengue and was a memorable example of a classic pud. The server was efficient and provided a large jug water garnished with cucumber strips, very welcome with the spicy main. The only disappointment was the wine. A house red which was very ordinary and a shiraz which I'd have sworn was a merlot and not a great one. We finished with two small intense espressos and left feeling pretty content over all.

Had a lovely meal here. It was a last minute decision to go here as my friend got lost trying to find restaurant in Giffnock but ended up on Gibson Street...don't ask! It was very quiet when arrived, tho it was a Monday night. Nice neutral decor inside. I had mussels, chips and bread. Very tasty, fresh mussels. Bread was lovely too. The only reason it is a 4 star, is due to waitress. She was very inattentive and we spent a lot of time trying to get her attention at various times during the meal. Would recommend as food was tasty but staff need to get their finger out.

This has to be one of the best places to eat in Glasgow - the only problem is that the burger is so gosh darn tasty that I rarely experiment with anything else! I've been a few times and whether it's been brunch, a romantic dinner with the wife or a group affair with friends it's never ever disappointed. Also, try the best ever sticky pork ribs but be prepared to go through an entire kitchen roll's worth of paper, because they are some messy fellas! The ambience is perfectly pitched - it's stylish and shiny, but also really relaxed and inviting. You'll find service is responsive, although not immune to little mistakes with your order (cheese on a burger by accident, that kind of thing). It's also a great place to go if you've several people with different appetites. The menu is structured in such a way that you can have just a few nibbley things (concentrating on the tasty range of beers), or a full meal, and no one feels like they have to compromise.

Left Bank is an excellent wee restaurant - the food is varied and high quality, and it's got a great atmosphere - the lighting is lovely and the different levels give a intimate feel, as it's not just one large dining room. I like the mezzanine, as you can see what's going on in the bar, and out in the street too. I think one of their specialities might be seafood, as there always seem to be people tucking into bowls of mussels when I'm there, but being vegan, I'm not interested in that. This place is not a vegan place, but caters very well indeed for vegans, with many dishes having a vegan option available. Last night, I had 3 small dishes - the southern Indian dahl with toasted coconut, the coconut rice, and some sort of asian type noodle dish. They were all superb. I get the dahl every time I'm there, it's so warming without being too spicy, with a lovely thick and creamy texture. It was the first time I'd had the noodles and they were delicious too - delicately flavoured and very tasty. I find the service here is always good, the employees are lovely - just the right mix of friendly professionalism. If Left Bank created a vegan pudding, then it would definitely be granted my elusive 5 star rating. Come on Left Bank - do it for me!

Still really like it here. As most of my reviews currently start, post running I was looking for some grub around Kelvingrove Park. We had done a session near the fountain but were looking for somewhere nearer the Gibson side of the park. This place was perfect for some tired, sweaty runners. We did giggle though when we got put into the back, upstairs! The food choices were great, I had a vast amount to choose from. I was tempted by the superfood salad, or the burger or the chicken zataar but opted for the chilli. I can fully see why it's so so popular! I liked the tortilla chips with it, and the fact that the chilli had pulled pork in it. Personally, could have had more sour cream and red chillis and less cheese but that's just me! Will be back for the cake at some point for sure.

I'm pretty frequently found in the Left Bank as it meets most of my criteria for a good eatery: great food well-made, relaxed atmosphere, quick service, and a total bonus - you can take your dog, and they'll even give your pup water and some biscuits :) I adore the fact that they do brunch until 5pm at the weekend, some other places finish serving brekkie type food at 1ish (c'mon pal, I'm only get out of my bed at that time on a Sunday, let's be honest), not to mention the fact that this is proper lovely food, not your standard greasy spoon sludge. The Bank's Breakfast is my absolute favourite and I rarely stray from it when I visit, it is so so tasty and not a drop o grease to be had. The beans they serve with this all day breakfast are fabulous, spicy and homemade, they go very well with the bloomer bread toast you are served. Om nom for sure. Outwith breakfast/brunch, the menu is a mish mash of standard gastropub offerings, including burgers, fish and chips and pasta, but they do offer more exciting options such as a a marinated yucatan lamb steak, served with a white bean puree, or the delicious thali which comes with an array of dips and flatbreads. As a previous reviewer has commented, this place is ideal for all types of meetings, whether its a date, a lazy brunch with friends or a sit down with the 'rents, you won't really find many people complaining about what's on offer. The only points which stop me from giving the place 5 stars are that I think for repeat visitors, the menu can sometimes be a *wee* bit limited - I might be nit picking here as there are small plates on offer to give the place a bit of a tapas feel and open up more options, but sometimes specials on the main menu would be nice to see. Also another minor point but one I always notice - the low light fittings at some of the tables mean those sitting there inevitably *always* hit their head on departure. However, this is a small price to pay for the excellent service, atmosphere, ambiance and food this west-end gem has to offer.

Went here with Zoe, her brother and her mum, a difficult group to please since this comprises a wheat allergy sufferer and two vegetarians - no problem for the diverse menu offered by The Left Bank! Zoe had the Goan seafood curry, I opted for the burger, Zoe's mum had the Huevos Mexicanos (Mexican scrambled eggs with chili), and her brother had the Bombay breakfast. My burger was nice and juicy, and had tasty jalapeno beetroot relish on top, as well as the extra gruyere I opted for. Just what I wanted at the time, pleasingly meaty and flavoursome. Possibly not up there with some of the best burger restaurants, but still very good. It also came with a side of fries and a deliciously spicy chipotle mayo, which was a great bonus flavour. Zoe's seafood curry looked stunning, with lovely colours a butterflied king prawn on top. This was very tasty, with plenty of chunky seafood and depth of flavour. The Mexican eggs were also tasty, coming from the breakfast section on the menu as a slightly smaller dish. The fresh chili really gave it a good kick, and is a nice alternative to your regular scrambled eggs. Given that Zoe's mum has a wheat allergy, the staff were helpful enough to accomodate this and supplied corn tortilla chips instead of the flour tortilla on the menu. The Bombay breakfast was apparently very tasty, and came with a flatbread to secure the dahl and potatoes together in a kind of Indian breakfast burrito! This was also a substantial amount of curry delight for a brunch item. The place was very busy and vibrant for a Sunday, clearly a popular Sunday lunch location - I would recommend booking a table. The staff very very polite and helpful, even taking off the cost of the eggs off the bill, as it took slightly longer than the other dishes to bring to the table, and we had already waited 30 minutes for our food. The only minus points are that due to the small kitchen, food will take longer to serve during busy spells, and due to the diverse range of cuisines on offer, I don't think any of it really hits the heights you would expect from speciality restaurants. That said, the overall standard of food is high, and, if The Left Bank was in Edinburgh, I would probably go for brunch every weekend - there's really nowhere I have found here that matches The Left Bank for quality, range, and price.

I'm in two minds whether to write this or not. I want to be able to get a reservation here and it always seems busy. The Left Bank is incredibly good cooking for a teeny tiny price. A cool, bistro-type setting with pleasant staff and a good wine list. On busy nights service can be a little bit slow but I've never been in a rush. Great for breakfast (porridge, Spanish eggs), brunch, lunch, and tapas-style dinner (if you want it that way) and you must try the cocktails too. Though not for breakfast. What the hell, have them for breakfast if you like. An absolute bargain.

Lovely spot for a Sunday brunch! I went here with my cousin for brunch. We were seated in the mezzanine area, which is nice as you can still see out the window to the street without feeling like everyone can see you too! I had a bacon and sausage ciabatta, which was really tasty and the meat was of high quality. I added ketchup (Heinz, yay!) as there was no sauce on it - which is my preference as I like to be able to add my own. My cousin had the Lebanese breakfast which she really enjoyed - it's unlike anything else I've seen on a menu in Glasgow! It was quite spicy, which she loved. The bill came to £16 for 2 meals, a tea and a coffee which we thought was great value. I've previously been here for their pre-theatre menu (bargain!) and to their sister venue, The Two Figs, for cocktails and will happily return again.

Having been here for lunch a few times with a friend, and finding it generally OK, I didn't think I'd need to think twice about a dinner booking with my parents when they visited for a rare weekend staying with us. The menu looked appealing and the only trouble we had was finally settling on our choices. For starters, the ribs, prawns, tofu and hummus we all chose were good - though the hummus was freezing cold. Obviously you want to keep it in the fridge but maybe sitting it out for five minutes before serving might be good - and serving the huge pot with more than one small pitta - or a smaller pot! However, the mains were a real let down. My mum's lamb was tough, and the crushed potato that came with it was in fact a large, dry puck of new potatoes squashed together. My salmon was OK - pretty bland for something that was supposed to come with kimchee. But the real shame was reserved for the two rib eye steaks ordered by my dad and husband. These were - well, for a start - not rib eye steaks. The distinctive 'eye' - the area of fat that makes a rib eye so tasty - was not there. The steak was dry, overcooked (a rib eye should generally be medium rare, so the fat melts - these were well done) and so thin (seriously, about a centimetre) that we assumed they had used one of the steaks meant to go on the steak sandwich. The waitress told us, on questioning this, that they only had rib eyes in the restaurant. So for the first time ever in a restaurant, we spoke to the chef. He came out, agreed that the steaks weren't rib eyes, promised to cook new ones. Twenty minutes later, during which my mum and I had of course finished our food, two new steaks came out. Exactly the same. Except possibly a little more overdone than before. The steaks were picked at and mostly left. No one felt like eating much after that. The steaks - on the menu at £18 each - were not charged for, and we were given a free round of drinks. The bill still came to something upwards of £80. Not an experience I would wish to repeat.

Lots of good reviews for The Left Bank tipped it to the top of the 'let's try brunch' list, so we pitched up ... err.. mid-afternoon, and perused the all day breakfasts. First impressions are good, it's a nice space, lots of wood and stone, and the mezzanine floor adds to the general sense of style. The delicious looking carrot cake on the bar helped too! Our first encounter with the staff was the curt 'follow me' once the waitress had been told we were looking for a table for two. She led us upstairs to the top most mezzanine area. It was pretty busy, but not quite full which was a relief as it was already bordering on being too hot up there. My partner ordered the "Bank's breakfast" (their version of a fry-up), and I plumped for a breakfast ciabatta with square sausage and poached eggs. Coffee and tea arrived promptly. My coffee was good if a little cool for my liking, so it didn't last long. The breakfast tea was served in a pot and enough for two mugs and was pretty standard 'builders tea' (which is just how she likes it). The food arrived a little while later. I wouldn't say it took a long time but given the place wasn't that busy and a large table cleared out not long after we sat down, it did seem to take a fair while. Taste wise it was great! The square sausage in my ciabatta was delicious, a nice big thick hunk of taste accompanied by two well poached eggs. Downside of the eggs was the vinegar taste (but at least I know which method they use for poaching). The Bank's breakfast went down well but only after we pointed out it was missing an ingredient. A slice of potato scone was rustled up quickly with lots of apologies. Overall whilst the food was good, the overall experience was a bit flat and slightly odd. Both waitresses that we dealt with were fairly curt when talking to us, and there just didn't seem to be a great atmosphere about the place, I wouldn't say it was unwelcoming but it certainly wasn't friendly. Not somewhere I'd want to spend much time.

The Left Bank was one of the first restaurants are tried when I first moved here! And I remember really liking it then. I still like it now too! My glam fam and I went over for lunch! The lunch menu is really affordable and quite diverse in choices (£5-£9 depending on your dish). They also have a kids menu for you children or little siblings! I ordered the fish with salad and chips on the side (for your lunch main dish, you can either have a choice of bread, a wrap or salad). It was pretty big in portion! Quite surprising! But it was delicious. I finished up everything in front of me, which is usually a good sign. My italian dad had the super salad (I think that's what it's called) and it was HUGE! With squash, lots of leafy veges and other healthy things liddat (if you're into that kinda stuff haha). That was £9 and he said he was good and so big lol The Italians were not too happy with their espressos though so I don't recommend having that in The Left Bank. But regular coffees like caffe lattes are fine cause mind was pretty good :) Also, methinks the waiting staff could be just a little bit more friendly and less "eye-rolling". Regardless, will definitely go back for lunch! Well worth the ££!

We spent a week in Glasgow and had traditional Scottish breakfast everyday from different places. Their "Bank's Breakfast" is the best in town! We're from Florida and we don't survive walking out in the cold for too long, and this is a great place to take a break and enjoy a conversation. They also serve good craft beers.

I booked a table for brunch on the day the Commonwealth Games road race was due to go right past the Left Bank's massive windows. A big table for 10: 6 adults, an 8 year old, a toddler and an 8 week old. We didn't count the baby in the booking. The poor mite was with family and wasn't set down once in over 3 hours! The staff were attentive taking drinks orders as we arrived in dribs and drabs. They also deserve massive praise for not showing any sign of annoyance that we didn't order for over an hour after arriving. Flaky sister was being flaky. We tried waiting before eventually giving up. By the time we ordered and saw food hungry doesn't really go far enough. Nobody was disappointed and whilst my Caledonian Eggs Mornay was spectacular with perfectly runny poached eggs, I had total food envy of smudge's french toast and bacon, g's burger, onion rings and chips, Mum's Lebanese breakfast, Dad's Bank's breakfast and my brother in law's chilli. The only reason I wasn't eyeing up my sisters food was that we had the same. Although, I'm sure her's had more smoked salmon. Unfortunately, I was at the other end of the table when my other sister and brother in law eventually arrived, ordered and got food. So I didn't get to drool on their plates - next time! We stayed for hours. Never feeling rushed, constantly being topped up with coffee. I have to admit we were probably the table from hell. Dashing in and out to cheer cyclists, then returning dripping water everywhere, buggies, breastfeeding, a tantrum - the toddler, a screaming session -the 8 week old, hogging the table for over 3 hours, letting one of the party sit in their pants because their skirt got so wet cheering at anything that moved - yep that's my girl! But at no point were the staff anything other than awesome. Great food made all the better by being indulged and made to feel truly welcome.

I've been here for birthday brunches, meetings, can't-be-arsed-to-cook-so-let's-go-out's and a meal to celebrate the life of an amazing neighbour... and it's been great every time. The food is scrumptious and the service is top notch. I love the fact that you'll nearly always either see a baby or a dog... or both.

I was intrigued by the comment a visitor made, " I would have given Left Bank ten stars if I could", so between that and having Huevos Mexicana on the menu we decided to try it. I had the Lebanese breakfast, my wife the Eggs Mornay with salmon. Both were great. And three days later, we returned for breakfast again but for lunch.

I popped into this gastropub whilst waiting for my bike to be serviced in gear bikes just a few doors down! See previous review for gear lol. *plug plug*. So this place is basically the west end version of the bungo from the southside.I dunno if its the same people who run it but its pretty similar in selections and menu look so i wouldnt be surprised. Anywho onto the place itself. You walk in and its very cosy but without feeling small, small but well stocked bar with comfy chairs, upstairs area with seats and couch like things and a little bit opposite the bar with tables and generally well lit areas. I had the left bank breakfast and it was delicious! It came with sausage, home made beans, herby mushrooms, potato scones, bacon, black pudding and a lovely egg. It was all cooked on a grill as it had lovely marks on it and was cooked to a tee! Even the mushrooms which i ate.....i dont even like mushrooms! lol And all this for just 7:95!! Great Value! The staff were great, never felt rushed or hassled which is possible as i was the only person on a 4 seat table. All in all a gorgeous place which is nice and cosy with good staff and tasty well priced food!

Despite having known people who worked here,staying close by and hearing my friends rave about it for years, I only experienced Left Bank for the first time today. My friends were right: it was awesome! I had a crispy wrap for lunch (recommended by the friendly waitress), we had sharp but cheerful table service and despite it being a busy Friday afternoon, we were never left unattended. Its exterior is rustic, and its open windows and brown panelled interior give it an airy quality (while it also resembles a swanky ranch). They have a mezzanine which was packed full of formally dressed, flushed, fresh faced grad students having lunch with their parents today. They had a good graduation menu, but that just made me nostalgic for uni so I ignored that and skipped straight to the lunchy nibbles. Their menu is varied and they have a better brunch menu than the majority of the surrounding restaurants. I've heard their breakfasts are poetry on a plate and judging on the quality of my simple but tasty lunch, I will be sampling some in the near future!

Big disappointment. In fairness, the food was very good (if a tad overpriced for what you're getting), lots of vegetarian options which is always nice to see. But the service is pretty bloomin' rubbish and really lets this place down. Someone else has pointed it out in their review, but the service is all over the place. Multiple staff serving our table without any communication. Drinks not arriving, small mistakes with our orders - and sure, they were sorted out, but just gives off an "amateur" impression. Our main server didn't know the specials, couldn't describe one of the dishes to me and just wasn't with it. Gordon M pointed that out too and I totally agree - very curt and not really friendly. The Left Bank is obviously a bit more pricey, gastropub style place, and the food is great, but the service isn't what I expected and I don't think I'll be back. I really can't stick restaurants with poor service even if the food is good!

As I lived around the corner, I became a bit of a regular at the Left Bank. Good food, good service, good prices and good surroundings. It's no wonder they became the new rivals to Stravaigan across the road. You can tell expense wasn't spared when this place was done up- neat sofas to lounge on by the window, a bar made with frosted glass (I might be making that bit up, but from memory the bar was definitely fancy), and trendy patterned wall-paper all catering to the masses of Wendys that frequent here. You can pop in for lunch (although it's busy at the weekends) but I recommend you make a booking for dinner. The owners of this fine establishment are opening their second restaurant soon on Byres Road. Can't wait.

As one of the other reviewers said: this place has it all: good food, good drinks, good service and good atmosphere. The interior design of this place is spectacular - they obviously put a lot of thought into the layout, colour scheme, and design of the bar (in otherwords, it's very fancy). Whether you're in for the mood for a drink or a meal (I'd advise you to reserve a table as it can get veeeery busy), and are about Gibson Street area (or even if you're not), I'd recommend this little place - even if you're just wanting some 'me time'. It's great.

Having had lunch here in its opening months, and returning for a second meal a year later, I am a fan of the Left Bank. It does not seem to get to busy, and the service is relaxed- sitting upstairs, I had plenty of chance to chat with my companions, and the music was not at all intrusive. The food is well prepared, the coffee sweet and the price is fair. It also balances the chilled atmosphere of a cafe bar against something more business like: a spot to chill and eat. The best thing is the design: it is smart without being self-conscious, and gets away from the beige that seems to dominate the style bars.

we came here for a romantic dinner and to escape the september rain and cold. we had shanghai noodle, penne with broccoli and cheese, and the kashmiri chicken. the penne looked simple, but it was tasty and had a lot of flavors. the chicken looked like a work of art; the chicken was done well and was yummy; the sauce consisted of pomegranate and yogurt added an expected twist and gave it a wow. the shanghai noodle was good but nothing special. the decor was modern, stylish, and mellow. our waiter was a young guy who was a pro - attentive, efficient, and cheerful.

My partner and i often visit the Left Bank for a superb Sunday breakfast. The eggs benedict is my choice. The hollandaise sauce is just right and not too thick. The atmosphere here is very relaxed and intimate. The decor is stylish but homely. For dinner the mussels are terrific and u can choose from either bread or chips to accompany also if your willing to splash out a little more and get the fillet steak,great with the blue cheese sauce. I really like this place and will most definitely be returning!
