Since everyone else has talked about how cool the store is — it really is fun, especially for LEGO lovers! — I’ll be the guy who points out the giant line that stretches around the block. We tried to visit on two different days after New Year’s, once in the evening and once at opening, and both times the line to get in was a minimum 30-45 minutes. I’m not complaining so much as sharing, but as a family with kids in 20 degree weather, the wait did deplete some of our energy, enthusiasm and patience. We read the reviews and tips and tried to time it just right, but it didn’t help much. I highly recommend planning your trip here very carefully — prepare to wait outside in the weather for a while, and have a backup plan in case you need to bail! FAO Schwartz and Nintendo are right around the block, both of which also regularly have lines, but you might check how busy they are on Google Maps and return to LEGO later if needed. Also, the line queues west down 51st, so try to come in from that direction so you can see or hop in the line before getting to the door and having to walk another block back to get in line. All that said, once inside it was pretty much what everyone else said :) Honestly, I expected it to be a bit bigger, but my expectations were a little inflated. And I’m not poo-pooing the LEGO Store — we love LEGO! — but having more of a reality check up front may have helped us a bit, so hopefully this helps someone somewhere. Good luck and enjoy!
