The Center is a vibrant community hub in NYC offering free programming, a welcoming café, and essential resources for the LGBTQ+ population.
"Commonly referred to as just “The Center,” this public space has tons of free programming, a queer bookstore, and resources for all. Opened in 1983 during the AIDS crisis, it has been a hub of activity for the LGBTQ+ community ever since. It’s a public gathering space, a safe place to chat with a neighbor or stranger, engage with likeminded people, learn about LGBTQ+ history and culture, stock up on complimentary safe sex supplies, get tested for STDs, and so much more. There's a mural by Keith Haring in the bathroom. Visitors can also enjoy The Center’s coffee shop, which offers all the standard espresso and tea drinks, plus tables to lounge at and access to a private garden." - Melissa Kravitz Hoeffner
"A reliable resource to understand local laws and cultural norms relevant to LGBTQ+ travelers."
