Disappointing Experience Due to Extremely Unprofessional Ownership!
I rarely leave negative reviews, but my visit to The Less Dead left me genuinely frustrated and frightened for an employee. The bar itself was awesome—interesting décor, great drink prices, and a cozy layout—but the experience was overshadowed by the owner’s extremely unprofessional behavior. He was in no position to be serving customers let alone screaming at them with his large serrated bar knife.
(White male, balding, mid 50/60's with glasses and was legless drunk - I was told he was the owner or a part-owner)
From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt tense. The owner was loudly arguing with a staff member behind the bar, right in front of customers, making everyone look around uncomfortably. Throughout the night, he continued waving around a huge knife while seemingly cutting the same lime for 30 minutes, interrupting conversations, and even snapping at patrons who politely asked about drink delays. At one point, he looked like he was going to attack the young lady employee who was bartending and then proceeded to accost patrons who told him to stop. It was really a poor experience and I have a pretty high tolerance for bar BS.
The young lady clearly seemed stressed, which probably explains why the service felt disorganized. Our drinks took over 20 minutes, and when they arrived, the server apologized, saying they were “doing the best they could.” I genuinely felt incredibly bad for her. Our night ended at Less Dead when the only other Staff Member behind the bar walked out and our party of 15/20 people followed her shortly after. My friends and I choose to spend our money elsewhere that evening. I sincerely hope the other people involved in this bar see this review. I encourage you to check my profile. I am not someone who just leaves scathing reviews.
It’s a shame, because the place itself isn’t the problem—the leadership is. A bar is only as good as the environment it creates, and with an owner acting this unprofessionally, it’s hard to enjoy the experience. That young lady should receive a raise and a massive apology from other owners. That guy is a ticking time bomb.
I hope things improve for the staff and the business, but I won’t be returning unless the management makes some changes to themselves!
