"Why we love it: Epic views and high style on the South Island The Highlights: - Design that maximizes the views - A small size that makes for an intimate, exclusive experience - Access to a variety of outdoor adventures The Review: Set in the South Island’s Ahuriri Valley, on 6,000 pristine acres bordered on three sides by conservation parks, is your own slice of natural paradise. Opened in late 2018, The Lindis is a striking, contemporary lodge that blends into the landscape, with a sloping roof that mimics the mountain and river backdrop and, inside, floor-to-ceiling windows framing magnificent views. There are just five rooms to choose from—two master options and three lodge suites, all with private indoor and outdoor lounge spaces, fluffy king beds, and gas fireplaces. (Master suites also have separate living rooms and oversized bathtubs.) Beyond the accommodations, there are endless activities to choose from, from horseback riding, fly fishing, and e-biking to eco- and buggy tours and spectacular stargazing. Fuel up for your adventures with the lodge’s refined, contemporary cuisine, crafted by house chefs using locally sourced ingredients—think South Island crayfish, foraged porcini mushrooms, and Wild Fiordland venison—and paired with fineNew Zealand wines from the well-stocked cellar."

Perfect place for our sisters getaway. Everything was perfect, except the weather, but truth be told even the rain added to the experience. Beautifully appointed rooms and not one detail is missed. Welcoming notes and beautiful wine, personal water bottles and scented spray left before bedtime was a lovely touch. Then there is the food! Delicious options so beautifully presented. Try the Turkish eggs for breakfast if they are offering them absolutely scrumptious! Staff were amazing, lovely and accommodating, always around but not intrusive. They’ll bend over backwards when you need them and you wouldn’t even know they are there when you don’t. Amazing stay and so worth it. You won’t regret it. And if the weather is not great please don’t shy away from the hot tub, sitting in the rain sipping wine with those stunning views was the best experience ever!

Wow-the Lindis is just perfect! We had the most incredible stay during our honeymoon in December 2024. The property is stunning and the scenery is unmatched. We stayed in one of the pods and we absolutely loved the privacy and serenity of the room, and the bathtub is incredible. While the pods are a bit small, as some other reviews have noted, the space is very thoughtfully laid out and we did not feel cramped at all during our three night stay. We can't speak highly enough of the Lindis team. Averil and the entire staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and they provided the highest level of service. For example, Averil drove us to and from a hike and timed the pickup perfectly to when we finished the trail. We also loved the nightly snacks and touches the team provided during turn down service. The food was delicious-amazing breakfasts and dinners in the lodge, and a choice of a hearty packed lunch while exploring the valley or lunch in the lodge-and the wine list had a great selection of New Zealand wines to go along with the excellent food. We highly, highly recommend the Lindis and we hope to come back someday soon.

I had an amazing stay at The Lindis! The views are absolutely stunning—truly one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. The experience was great value for money considering the luxury and scenery you get. What really made the stay exceptional was the staff. They were incredibly friendly, helpful, and went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed. Couldn’t ask for better service. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a unique, relaxing getaway in nature with top-notch hospitality.

WOW, WOW, WOW The Lindis is out-the-gate on all levels - the location, the vista, the quality of the lodge and suites, the staff are outstanding, the food is stunning and the small treats were so thoughtful. We treated ourselves to a few nights at The Lindis for a celebration. We were blown away by it all and loved every minute of it. Thank you to all the amazing staff for making our stay so remarkable and memorable. Lisa & Craig Lyford

The staff and accommodations were incredible! Everyone is friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food is spectacular and there are plenty of wine options to pair with your meals. Highly recommend going fly fishing and doing at least one hike. There's also a gym, hot tub, pool table, board games, and incredible views all around. The Lindis sets the bar for a luxury stay in New Zealand!

We spent 2 nights here on our honeymoon and it went beyond my expectations. 1) Room: we stayed in the pod and the views were stunning. We loved the privacy and the bath. I really can’t describe how amazing it is to lay on the bed, listening to Lord of the Rings music as we enjoyed the view. Epic is the only word that even comes close. 2) The food: I had quite possibly the best steak ever here. They’re so willing to accommodate and change menus for you whether it’s a preference or allergy issue. Their breakfast was top notch and I loved that you’re not strictly limited. Again, really willing to adjust and add items. And the lunch egg noodle pasta with pork belly — it might have been my favorite thing there, period. 3) The drinks: creative bar menu with excellent bartender. Fresh mint tea was so enjoyable. We might have depleted their entire mint garden during our stay. 4) The service: I didn’t expect a welcome party when we arrived but that’s how tailored the experience is. I could tell everyone wanted to go above and beyond. Talking to the employees it was obvious they really loved working for the Lindis and take their roles seriously. Their clientele seems to have very high expectations which drives this formality across the staff. There is nothing I can fault but I almost wish the staff felt more comfortable just chit chatting! But I understand that’s not the vibe nor expectation for perhaps the majority of their clientele. Johnny, the manager from the uk, was super friendly, helpful, and flexible with scheduling. For our honeymoon they gifted us a bottle of champagne and chocolates, a lovely surprise. And when we picked up our car, we found cold drinks and some baseball caps left in there for us. 5) The activities: my husband isn’t a huge helicopters guy and we are live hiking, biking, etc. We did horseback riding and an ebike ride to a swimming hole. Elise was SO nice and keeps the stable the cleanest I have ever seen or smelled. Her dog was adorable to ride by and see eagerly waiting. The horses are the happiest I’ve ever seen for trail horses. They’re well treated and used ethically for trail rides which is rare but made possible through lower demand given there’s <20 guests at the lodge at any given night. I can’t describe the level of thoughtfulness and service provided by the staff, the views and seclusion the space provides, and ethics upheld in how they treat staff and horses. Keep up the great work! We will be back one day!

Amazing stay. My husband and I spent two nights at the Lindis in January in one of their private pods. The Lindis is located about 20 minutes off the main road - and the drive is well worth it for the remote location and absolutely stunning views when you arrive! The team at The Lindis were brilliant from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. We arrived on a rare cold (around 5 degrees) summers day, but this did not impact our stay – we ran a hot bath (which you can do from inside your pod) and had a lovely time in the hot bath looking at the beautiful scenery. The next day was warmer, and we went on some lovely self-guided walks (equipped with our GPS and radio in case we needed help or wanted a pick up!) and an incredible horse ride through the forest. The horses were so well behaved, and the guides were very friendly and even took me for a gallop through the paddock when we got back which was an amazing experience. On our final morning, we took the Ben Avon trail to the top of the mount- the views were superb and well worth the walk up - it took us around 2 hours in total. The food was exceptional, with an a la carte breakfast and choice of lunch or picnic to take with you, and a multi-course dinner. Although the dinner was a set menu, we were shown the menu earlier in the day and could ask for anything to be changed if we were not completely happy- we didn’t need to worry though, every course was a delight! Overall, the best couple of days and would highly recommend staying at the Lindis to anyone!

The bar against all luxury accommodations should be measured. Incredible food, architecture and people. Rodger is a phenomenal fly fishing guide. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer.
