"This tiny spot in Sherman Oaks couldn’t be less similar to the upscale Katsuya locations that spun off from the original Katsu-ya, which are more like nightclubs that serve sushi. In fact, Little Izaka-ya is a spinoff in the opposite direction, a low-key branch of a Valley staple where you'll find couples on casual dates eating $15 rolls before catching a movie. "We’re not saying you shouldn’t go to The Cheesecake Factory in the same complex as the Sherman Oaks Arclight, but we do acknowledge that shrimp scampi and enormous barbecue chicken “salads” aren’t for everyone. Little Izaka-ya is the kind of place that will please both your purist sushi friend and your other friend who always orders the teriyaki. The food here comes out quickly, and you can get miso black cod that rivals Nobu’s for $10 instead of $38." - brant cox
