I’m writing this because my experience at The Little Yellow Door in Notting Hill was genuinely upsetting and completely unacceptable. What should have been a great night ended with me feeling intimidated, dismissed, and shocked by the behaviour of one of the security staff.
My friend and I went into the smoking area and were calmly chatting with two other women who were already outside. Within a couple of minutes, a bouncer—who I later heard being called “Michael”—came over and told all four of us that we had one minute to go back inside. None of us were being loud, disruptive, or causing any issues. The space was small and the venue was busy, so we cooperated and began finishing our cigarette quickly.
What I still can’t understand is that he then told my friend and me that we were banned from re-entering the smoking area. It was our first time out there that night, and we had done absolutely nothing to justify being banned. When I calmly asked him why, he completely ignored me. I wasn’t rude, aggressive, or confrontational — he simply refused to speak to me. The lack of explanation felt dismissive and completely unprofessional.
I later spoke to the bar manager, Yasmin, who reassured me she would speak to him and that we should be allowed to use the smoking area if we went back out. I appreciated that she at least listened.
However, things escalated later in a way I did not expect. Before leaving, my friend and I went downstairs for one last drink. I was still shaken by what happened and wanted to take a short video of the bouncer so I could identify him properly for a formal complaint. The moment I did, he grabbed my hand and snatched at my phone. This happened three times. He told me to stop filming and then said, “If you don’t stop, you’ll see what I’ll do to you.”
I find this behaviour threatening, aggressive, and entirely inappropriate for a member of security staff. The fact that he put his hands on me made the situation even more distressing. Another female staff member stepped in, but instead of helping, she dismissed my concerns and refused to direct me to a manager. By this point, I felt completely disregarded and honestly quite shaken.
I left the venue feeling singled out, intimidated, and confused about why any of this happened. I still have no explanation for why my friend and I were banned from the smoking area in the first place, and the way the situation was handled only made things worse. The physical contact, the threatening tone, and the refusal to communicate are entirely unacceptable in any venue, especially one that relies on licensed security staff.
I’m sharing my experience publicly because no customer should be treated this way. I hope the venue takes this seriously, investigates what happened, and ensures that other guests don’t go through anything similar.
