The Lobbyist is the first bar/lounge you encounter when entering the lobby of the Marriott Downtown. It's neat how it is sunken down from the floor area and there is ample room for groups of 8 or more in some area's and also two tops and bar area seating and dining. From my recollection, it is connected to the main sister dining area Corinne to the left which provides a traditional dining experience. However, you certainly can get some lovely bites here.
Since we were staying at the hotel, it was our first stop after checking in. There are two stories to this bar/lounge area, however the top floor was closed when we were there. We saddled up to the bar and was immediately greeted by a cheerful, smiling.. masks were on, but her eyes were smiling at us for sure, bartendress who took our orders. Feeling a bit peckish, and some oysters at the offering.. we ordered a half dozen as well as the BLT Deviled Eggs.. I could of easily eaten a half dozen Deviled Eggs, delightful. Oysters were perfect salty briny for my taste. I like them raw, nothing added. They came with a little tabasco bottle, mignonette, cocktail sauce and lemons. I hate to see that go to waste, so I should of mentioned I wouldn't need that. Eggs.. wonderful simple eggs.. delicious indeed! Not overloaded with bacon bites, so you could enjoy the creamy yolks and firm, cold egg whites. Four served is just a teaser.. if you like Deviled Eggs, get two plates of these mamba jamba's!
The bartenders were really excellent. Our second night visit, we happened to be there the night Austin went on a boiled water alert and in the middle of enjoying our evening. The bartender let us know we could only order straight liquor neat of bottled/draft beer after the order went public. No problemo there since that was what we were enjoying. One excellent point, I ordered my Jamo with a beer back and the bartender served me a small beer to go with my Jamo. Being curious, I asked when he came back around, that I actually wanted a pint and he apologized and let me know he wasn't planning on charging me for a small beer back. Nice! And then served me a pint which I happily paid for. Management may frown on this, but what this led to was us staying longer and knocking back a couple of Blanton's, which we had originally not planned to do. So, a 1.50 beer gratuity from an attentive bartender, led to a very hefty tab, there was four of us. I thought the bartending staff made a challenging time, into a successful end of night event. Job done!
