I've driven past the Local Joint a hundred times and have always been curious. I finally gave it a try last weekend and the experience was mostly good.
Quick overview-My tempeh melt and sweet potato fries were excellent and I love the decor/vibe. My friends were both disappointed with their food and it took a reallllly long time to come out.
Detailed review- My husband has been telling me about their "amazing" fried chicken sandwich for years now and I've driven past The Local Joint many, many times on my way to go hiking and such. I have never gone in because I don't eat chicken (pescatarian) and just never ended up stopping in. My friend suggested going here for her birthday dinner last Saturday and I excitedly agreed! We met there at 5:30pm and as imagined with it being so early, the restaurant was pretty empty with a few people sitting at the bar and two other tables of guests.
When we were seated, I ordered a water with no ice and a coffee and my friends ordered hot tea and cola. My water definitely came with ice (this happens 90% of the time though, so weird). When I asked the server about some items on the menu that I was confused with, she was cold and not helpful. It actually felt like she was annoyed that I was asking questions. I ended up ordering the tempeh melt, my husband the coconut shrimp and brussel sprout confetti and my friend the fish tacos. Luckily, my friends and I love talking and hanging out (and were in no rush) because it took forever for the food to come out. The server never checked in to let us know that it was taking a while or to apologize for the wait.
Once the food finally came out, I was super duper happy with my tempeh melt and the sweet potato fries. Every bite was A+ and I would go back today and order it again if it weren't out of my way. So yummy! Plus, it's a large sandwich so I had enough to take home for lunch the next day. My friends were quite disappointed with their meals though.
As mentioned in the quick overview, I love the decor and vibe of Local Joint. It feels like a retro cafe and has really cool sliding curtains that can be moved around for more/less sun. I'll definitely come back some time and try some drinks too!
